Toyota Corolla Pros And Cons
Toyota Corolla minor flaws
Before talking about the shortcomings of the Toyota Corolla, we need (as it seems to us) to briefly talk about the advantages of this car. Only then will the picture be clear and complete.
There are no clear (point by point) positive or negative written instructions.
Therefore, this will be an assortment of reviews from car owners taken from the World Wide Web of the Internet, those who agreed to express their opinion - Corolla owners.
Many people just recently wanted to become owners of a Japanese car. Those wishing to purchase a Toyota were attracted by the Japanese reliability, durability of the car, its “filling” and, importantly in most cases, efficiency. Time passes, the myth or reality of the reliable Corolla car fades away like the flame of a lit match.
What's going on, have the wizards of the Land of the Rising Sun become lazy or are they tired of producing high-quality cars? Not at all, we are talking about the so-called “growing pains”.
There is an international organization that deals with vehicle reliability ratings (TUV). The data is very interesting; Corolla looks best from 8 to 11 years old, occupying a place in the top ten in the car rating.
But cars “aged” from 2 to 7 years turned out to be much lower - at the end of the second or beginning of the third decade.
Toyota cars are increasingly included in the list where minor and other flaws have been found. Toyoa's spare parts production is spread all over the world. It is not surprising that the quality of parts produced is declining.
The same can be said with confidence about the production of Toyota cars itself. The assembly of cars has long crossed the borders of Japan, and the geography of production has expanded significantly.
The famous quality certainly suffers from this.
The most common problems of today's Toyota recognized by the automotive community are:
- Unacceptably large gap between the dashboard and the radio.
- Unpleasant rattling of the rear license plate frame.
- Constantly singing “crickets” in the interior of a Toyota car.
- Difficulties in starting the power unit are another drawback of Japanese cars.
What can be done in this case?
The above problems can be dealt with in two ways:
- Eliminate deficiencies yourself.
- Contact Toyota service.
If we talk about the problems of the interior of a Toyota car, then there are not so many such unpleasant “little things” as additional sources of noise: the instrument panel visor, the panel, the process of vibration in the doors when the windows are lowered (these are the main ones).
You can get rid of them by contacting dealers or yourself.
Vibration processes that periodically appear in the license plate mount and frame can be resolved independently in literally 5 (five) minutes using double-sided tape.
On Toyota cars, there is often a space above the radio that is frankly “indecent” in size. By contacting official dealers at the warranty service center, you can successfully resolve this issue.
Cold start problems of the power unit are called “Toyota morning trouble” or UTT. It is believed that engine starting problems occur due to low-quality fuel. These are problems not only for Japanese cars. A similar situation is observed in the Ford Focus. Both cars often start on the second try.
With a mileage of approximately 35-40 thousand km on domestic “roads”, the steering rack of Japanese cars cannot withstand the tension (one would like to say nerves). Under warranty, defects are eliminated quite quickly.
Cars produced in 2003 have a different disease: vibration at idle. It is believed that these are problems with fuel and environmentally friendly settings of the power unit. Knowledgeable people advise that one of the options is to drive by turning on the dimensions and or headlights.
When switching gears and pressing the clutch pedal, unpleasant squeaks occur, which can be eliminated at a service center. This “disease” is treated exclusively with lubricant.
Each car has its pros and cons, everyone has disadvantages.
There is an interesting trend: while looking at reviews on the Internet, we were surprised to find that it was the Corolla car that they said good or nothing about.
Internet users describing the disadvantages of Toyota are much less common than those who talk about the advantages of purchasing this car or owning it for a certain time.
To summarize, we can say that there are problems. But there are also ways to deal with them and options for eliminating them.
Of course, neither Japanese designers nor German pedantic “comrades” have yet come up with ideal cars.
Therefore, eliminating periodically arising problems is our concern with the help of specialists from service stations and specialized Toyota car centers.
Toyota Corolla. 2008
Comfort
General impression
Average car costs
I bought a Toyota Corolla 1.6 manual transmission Comfort silver metallic car from ETL in 2008, new.
At first it was just super – before that it was 99. Gradually I began to notice the pros and cons of the car. Pros and cons are mixed, because they intersect:
Box fur. it’s just class - the gear travel is short, it engages easily, in general it’s a pleasure to work with it, the minus is that the reverse gear does not always engage the first time, in short the reverse gear is a C grade.
The speakers are at least as good as the fur. gearbox, when overtaking I turn it down a gear and move forward.
Handling after 99 is beyond words, the steering is unconditionally obeyed, turns go exactly as you plan, skidding predictably develops if you go too far with the speed. There are no signs of rolls or swaying.
Noise insulation is good - excellent (after 99), above 130 the engine is of course a little annoying with howling, but within normal limits. Poor insulation of the wheel arches - it seems that the wheels pick up everything that is lying on the road (and we have a lot of things lying on the road), every tiny pebble is thrown into the car, all this creates an indescribable cacophony in the area of the wheel arches, but gradually you get used to it.
The music is normal - I'm not a music lover, the radio picks up great.
I don’t have climate control, but the air conditioner and heater work perfectly in manual mode, the first position of the fan is enough to drive comfortably at minus 10-15, of course, before that, warm up the interior in position 2-3. The fan in the first position is not audible at all. The downside is that passengers in the back row are cold when it’s warm in front. I really liked the climate control algorithm - there are many air flow direction modes.
The tactile sensations from touching the buttons and knobs in the cabin cannot be conveyed - everything is just super, everything is in its place. The backlight of the shield is adjustable and in general the shield looks beautiful and is perfectly readable in any sunny weather. The numbers are large.
The plastic in the cabin is hard, I must say it’s assembled perfectly without cracks, there are no comments. But over time, thanks to our roads, it still starts to creak a little somewhere, but as soon as you get on a normal road, there is silence again. In my opinion, for that kind of money they could have put softer plastic in the interior.
The suspension is stiff (everything is done for good handling, they forgot about comfort or did not take into account what kind of roads we have), transmits all the joints and unevenness of the road - we have a lot of them.
At the same time, it has never been possible to break through the suspension; its travel is large with a margin. Naturally, there is no rocking or motion sickness.
But it seems to me that a compromise could not be reached here - the suspension is stiff, the handling is excellent, and comfort is minimal.
Ground clearance - ha, I read somewhere here that someone manages to storm curbs, I can’t imagine how he does it, maybe he doesn’t have bumpers. In short, the ground clearance is small, but everything in life is relative, if you compare it with a Mazda (a friend has a 6th), then it’s enough for me to drive into nature, but very carefully and in second or first speed. But there can be no talk of any normal, complete curbs.
Consumption seems to me to be quite economical, within the range of 8-10 in the city in summer and winter, it could be less, but with the right driving style, I don’t save, I warm it up in winter (automatic start), in summer I stand with air conditioning.
By the way, in my opinion, for economical driving on the highway, 6th gear is not enough, 5th is switched on at a speed of 50-60 km, and naturally after 110-120 km it would be better to ask for 6th gear and acoustic comfort would be better.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zs6zIFuu2Ys
There is enough space in the cabin, I would like more in the back row, but there is just enough of it so that no one would say that it is cramped (for its class, although my wife says that it is a bit cramped). There is no tunnel in the back row - very convenient!
It’s hard to say about the comfort of the seats, there seem to be a lot of adjustments, the steering wheel is also adjustable in two directions, but the back still gets tired after a long drive (maybe it’s just me). The seats are a bit hard. The front passengers have heating - it works perfectly, heats up quickly and the temperature is high, it turns off on its own (I use it often).
The trunk is large for its class (not Passat's, of course), the prehistoric hinges of the trunk lid get in the way, the rear speakers in the trunk are not protected in any way - they are easy to damage, there are no secret compartments.
When folding the rear seats, you get a step and, moreover, the opening opening into the cabin is extremely narrow, about 30 cm - only for skis, but not for bulky boxes.
The windshield wiper blades work normally, there is no heating in the rest zone, the blades themselves go far down and the heating of the glass from the passenger compartment does not warm them up. It helps to briefly press the switch responsible for the operation of the brushes and they move forward a little, just into the area of the heater air flow, but the passenger side still takes a long time to warm up and therefore smudges.
In winter, the car did not cause any problems - it always started the first time (-25-30 degrees), the gearbox of course gets stuck in the cold, and so do the pedals, but during the drive everything goes away - it warms up. Creaks and noises in a cold cabin grow like mushrooms, but the situation improves as it warms up.
The seating position is acceptable; in dirty weather, rear passengers need to get out of the car more carefully, otherwise all their feet can get dirty on the sills.
Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages: absolute comfort. reliable
Toyota Corolla is a good, I would even say an excellent Japanese car. I will write to you briefly about its pros and cons! Let's start with the positives!
-1) The very first thing is a reliable and indestructible engine! We drove 150,000, absolutely no problems with the engine, change the oil in time and keep moving on.
-2) Safety! Regarding safety, the car is equipped with 4 airbags, in my opinion, this is very good, and in my opinion it passed the crash tests well!
-3) Cost-effective. The car is quite economical, you go out on the highway and you drive yourself. I can’t tell you exactly how much it takes to 100, sorry :)
-4) Robot box! The good thing about the robot transmission is that if you get stuck, you can switch to manual and drive out safely, that is, it is both a manual transmission and an automatic one.
-5) Soundproofing! The Japanese made the noise level 5+, no noise even at a speed of 197 km/h, well, there is a little bit. Yeah, she drives like that, that’s her limit for a 5-speed, and a 6-speed manual will probably go 220)))
-6) Climate control! Yes, climate control is a good way to set the pace. which one do you need and that’s it))
-7) ABS! ABS is an indispensable thing on bad slippery roads.
-8) Well, that's all guys. And it has only one drawback: it’s trouble-free =D Good luck)
Advantages and disadvantages
I skated for 5 years on the previous Corolla, 1.4 liter. This year I replaced it with a new one. Compared with the previous one, there are both pros and cons. So.
Comfort package. 1.6, 122 mares. 781 rubles in the cabin, without extras. Plus 14 rubles for color, mother of pearl. The first thing that caught my eye was the new salon. Here, as they say, it’s not an acquired taste, I liked it.
Further, there is actually more space on the second row, the car has grown. For comparison, when folding the rear seats on the previous model, the headrests had to be removed.
On the new one, it moves freely, there is actually more room for the knees of those sitting in the back.
Further. The clutch and brake pedals have been reconfigured. The clutch has become much lighter, and the brakes feel more grippy, plus an emergency brake booster has been added, which was not there before. The steering wheel also became lighter, not a plus and not a minus. The noise is better, but the rear arches have lost their felt boots, i.e.
against the background of general improvement, the arches remained in the span and even became noisier. Daytime running lights are quite bright and decorate the car. The optitron lighting of the instruments has disappeared; in the manual version, beautiful dials are not available at all, only in maximum speed.
The on-board computer has stopped communicating in the language of words, now the information is stupid in numbers (there is a text display on the Prestige).
There are no mudguards, it killed me. There is now only one glove box and no backlight, again. The mirrors in the visors are illuminated, but now it needs to be turned on with a separate button. The plastic has become better, and comfortable handles have appeared on the doors. By the way, the doors on the previous car slammed easier. The watch from the 90s with three tiny rubber buttons is killer, almost a Montana watch.
The suspension has become softer, but it triggers breakdown earlier. The insert on the central panel is made of smooth black plastic, a la piano lacquer, and instantly attracts dust.
Finally, they made a handle for closing the trunk and covered the hinges in plastic covers, although they could have made the hinges themselves foldable. The turn signals now click three times when turned on briefly, which is convenient.
There was no eyeglass case before, but now it has become even smaller, except that contact lenses can be stored in it. The standard tires are now Bridgestone, but Yokohama tires are noisier.
The head light has become much better; on the previous model it was practically absent as such. Heated seats are two-level, moderate and frying pan.
In general, the car is fresher and more interesting than its predecessor, although what is surprising, of course, is the desire of the Japanese to save on small things. There are many more pros than cons, definitely, the new generation wins in almost everything.
I will learn the reliability of the Turkish assembly over time; Japan did not disappoint.
14.23 Air conditioning: not only pros, but also cons
14.23. Air conditioning: not only pros, but also cons
GENERAL INFORMATION
The dynamics of demand for used foreign cars indicates the desire of future car owners to have a car with the maximum possible number of options. One of them is the presence of air conditioning.
Even if the selected car meets the basic requirements of the car enthusiast, but does not have air conditioning, an application for its additional installation often follows, although it costs $ 1.5 thousand.
At the same time, during pre-sale preparation of most used foreign cars (Audi 100, VW Passat GT, Opel Omega 2.6) equipped with air conditioning, engine monitoring reveals an unacceptable decrease in compression in individual cylinders (about 5.5–7.5 atm .).
At the same time, the mileage of some cars produced in 1994, on which at least one of the cylinders had an unacceptable reduction in compression, was 50–70 thousand km. As a rule, this happened in the last cylinder of the engine, the indirect cause of which was its overheating.
This can only be explained by the fact that engines in cars equipped with air conditioning wear out faster due to the fairly high load created by them during operation. Systematic overheating leads to premature wear of the piston rings.
Fans of automotive coolness should remember that the most dangerous thing for the engine in hot weather is idle mode. In this mode, the coolant circulates slowly; in addition, the heat exchanger radiator installed under the hood intensively heats up the engine, robbing it of power.
Owners of an Audi equipped with air conditioning may have an additional problem associated with the need to replace the heat exchanger drive belt every 60 thousand kilometers.
This generally simple operation can only be performed with the air conditioner radiator removed, respectively, followed by refilling with freon, which will increase the cost of the work several times.
And not every service will take on this.
There is no doubt that it is good to have an air conditioner, but before ordering it, carefully weigh the pros and cons.

Toyota Corolla - owner reviews | 300N/MC, produced since 2007
What will be the minimum price: 1.4 liter engine (97 hp.
) body type - sedan, manual gearbox, front-wheel drive, ABS, EBD (electronic brake force distribution), BA (brake assist), immobilizer, central locking, front and side airbags, air conditioning, electric drive and heated mirrors, front electric windows , heated front seats, on-board computer, audio preparation (4 speakers)
Reviews of Toyota Corolla:
Appearance:
- Quite an attractive appearance.
In the cabin:
- Super cool seats! Personally, I had to cover more than one and a half thousand kilometers in a day; I didn’t feel any pressure on my legs either during or after the trip. You feel as if you didn’t drive through, but slept peacefully in bed!
- The size of the steering wheel is just what you need, not big and not small and small, just right for your hand, and it’s even better that it’s not covered in leather like fancy cars.
- In principle, the back sofa fits just right, we don’t push our knees, especially since everyone in our family is not very tall - up to 175 cm.
- I myself am not a small person, but with a height of 196 cm and a weight of 110 kg, I settled into the driver’s seat very well; indeed, not all cars were able to sit so comfortably.
- I would like to note the comfortable armrest.
- I was pleasantly pleased with the mechanical adjustment of the chair; the height and horizontal travel adjustments allow me to sit quite comfortably in the chair with my height of 182 cm.
- Pleasant interior lighting, everything is visible, in other words, there is more than enough light.
- Simply amazing instrument panel lighting, in a word optitron, all readings are visible both day and night.
- Conder copes with any climate just fine. I don’t care about any heat in the cabin, and in just a couple of minutes under the hot sun roof there is a pleasant chill in the cabin. There are also no problems with adjustment; if it’s cold, we’ll turn it down, if it’s hot, we’ll add it. Class!
- Standard music with 6 speakers sounds good, the lows are excellent, the mids are of average quality, the highs are also excellent.
- The stove warms up very quickly after being parked overnight.
- The heated seats work great.
- For a person over 195 tall, the adjustments are not enough.
- The armrest and door trim look very cheap.
- The quality of the plastic is disgusting; as soon as you press it a little harder with a rag, scratches and abrasions immediately appear.
- In general, the interior plastic is not of the worst quality, only the visor over the instrument panel is bullshit. After 3000 km, it began to rattle to the point of irritation, at the first maintenance I asked for it to be glued, it lasted for a couple of weeks.
- The seats are equipped with a very strange range of adjustments, it is quite difficult to find the right one.
- It is very difficult to get out of the car, although my weight is 80 kg and my height is 175 cm.
- The lack of power adjustment for seat heating is annoying. It works very strangely, it immediately heats up to maximum, and then turns off for 10 - 15 minutes.
- Twice we had to change the radio, and, mind you, they didn’t repair it, but installed a completely new one!
- The standard music was straining, the speakers “made in China” don’t play, but squeak and wheeze, somehow it’s not respectable for Toyota to install such crap, the radio also doesn’t have an output to an amplifier, to get a good sound, it needs to be changed completely.
Trunk:
- The trunk is OK - quite roomy at 450 liters, and there is a full-size spare wheel.
- I can easily squeeze in several snowboards and a set of equipment, thanks to the fact that the rear seats can be folded forward.
Paintwork:
- LCP sucks!!! The very first wash revealed numerous microcracks on the body, very visible on the dark body, and with further use the cracks became more and more numerous. It seems that even a piece of fluff can scratch the paint!
- I support the complaints of many owners about the quality of paintwork. The slightest touch to the body with an object a little harder than your hand is enough to leave marks and scratches.
Controllability:
- Excellent handling, at a speed of 100 - 110 km/h, changing lanes and maneuvering is easy and fast.
- When traveling, it showed normal stability, it goes as if on rails, at a speed of 150 km/h you can freely let go of the steering wheel.
- To all the advantages I will add excellent maneuverability, I make a turn with a minimum radius.
Softness:
- The suspension is soft and works great.
Speed:
- Respect and respect to the 1.6 liter engine for the ease of reaching 200 km/h, considering the weight of this car is under 1.5 tons!
Transmission:
- (Automatic transmission): The most important plus is the change in the automatic transmission. I loved it. Works smoothly. It seems that the smart car understands instantly what I want from it.
- (automatic transmission): The pseudo-automatic is very annoying if you are moving at low speed, in the yard or in a traffic jam, it starts to rush from gear to gear, only the steering wheel shift paddle saves you! Constant pitching can be tolerated during acceleration, but if you brake sharply, for example, before a traffic light, the gearbox frantically resets gears, emitting a characteristic metallic crunch.
- In general, the box is not the worst, apparently, it has not yet been worked out. In a very quiet mode it will work, of course, if you are not working and there is no need to rush, acceleration and switching to second gear takes a lot of time, then the robot immediately shifts into 5th from 2nd with virtually no acceleration.
- (Manual transmission): Nice gearbox, the lever is controlled by a joystick, it’s nice to click through the gears, no need to stretch.
Brakes:
- In terms of brake adjustment, the car is the best in its class. Even if the driver “blundered” the moment, the car is easy to stop in time, I feel quite confident.
Noise insulation:
- Almost at idle speed the engine is not audible at all, sometimes it seems that the engine has not started.
- The noise from the front wheel arches absolutely sucks!!! However, she is not here at all. Driving on our roads after patching the noise sounds like hail on the metal roof of a building.
Reliability:
- I’ve been driving a Corolla for almost three years now, I’ve driven 36 thousand with the robot, during this time I’ve only replaced the rear brake, otherwise the car has never let me down.
- Less than a couple of weeks had passed since the purchase, when rust was discovered in the trunk seal area and paint was blistering.
Patency:
- The Korolka's ground clearance of 150 millimeters is also quite acceptable; when used in urban conditions, it has not yet gotten stuck anywhere; it fits perfectly.
- On its way, my Corolla had to see not only smooth asphalt road surfaces, but also real off-road conditions! At the same time, she showed herself at her best; very rare holds are not critical.
Operating cost:
- Between maintenance I add 500 - 700 ml of oil. According to the passport data, the consumption rate is 1 liter of oil per 1000 km.
- Quite an economical car. When driving in the “ragged” mode, with overtaking, dynamic acceleration and kick-downs, I covered 600 km, only after that the refueling indicator came on.
- Super fuel consumption. My viburnum burned 13 - 14 liters in winter. Toyota eats much less, to burn more than 10 liters, you need to turn on the gas very actively, and also use autostart every time you get out of the car, as I do. On the highway 7 liters at a speed of 110 km/h.
- The price of maintenance is exorbitant, 7 - 10 thousand rubles, take it out and put it in, I don’t understand what you can do with it for that kind of money, the oil is probably poured from gold cans.
In cold weather:
- At any temperature it starts the first time, I checked it in cold weather -32, in the summer +35 is not a problem.
Other details:
- I didn't even expect this!!! Toyota earns its money 100 percent!!!
- The build quality is excellent. All gaps are in place.
- The levers and control buttons are perfectly located, everything is visible and at hand.
- When cornering, the body does not creak or groan, I think the torsional rigidity is excellent, in my opinion, this is a huge plus.
- Closing the doors is easy and clear, only a pleasant dull sound is heard.
- I liked the power steering. I'm pleasantly surprised that the electric amplifier can be so informative with good feedback.
- Moderately tight clutch, gas and brake too.
- Presence of rain and light sensors, multi steering wheel, robotic gearbox, optitron panels, transformer interior, MP3, 6 speakers, 8 airbags, leather steering wheel - complete stuffing!!!
- Very informative on-board computer.
- Excellent optics, low and high beam as it should be! For the first time, I had enough lighting.
- I've already taken out the right wiper - I'll have to replace it.
- I had to change the Kemri horn, since the standard one sucks!
- The view is hampered by the wide A-pillars.
- It seems that the body is made of foil. True - I press lightly with my finger, a dent appears.
- Only dry asphalt is suitable for standard tires. In the winter, in the snow, I didn’t move where my wife passed in a 207 Peugeot without any problems; on a country road, I got stuck in a completely harmless puddle.
- The plastic and fabric on the doors are simple. In our climate, all this heats up; as soon as you touch the plastic parts, they begin to creak and groan! Not very nice.

What are the Toyota Corolla owner reviews and the car's shortcomings?
The Toyota Corolla family has a landmark anniversary this year – 50 years! Over half a century, over 43 million cars in 11 generations have been sold around the world and this is a record! There are about 685 thousand copies of this model in use across Russia.
What are the reviews from owners of the Toyota Corolla 2017: exterior and interior
For 10 years now, Toyota marketers have been talking about almost the most glorious popularity of a car in history. And it is not unimportant that the ideology of the concept of this model series has been preserved to this day. After all, at all times, Corolla has been positioned as a simple and reliable car for people with average incomes.
Externally
In the pre-restyling Toyota Corolla, owner reviews practically did not note any shortcomings in terms of the exterior. The only drawback was the unavailability of at least xenon light even in top versions.
The manufacturer defends the position that the restyling was carried out with the aim of actually improving the car, and not for marking, as is often the case in the auto world.
And indeed, the consumer was heard! Now the updated Corolla sports LEDs in both low and high beam modes.
And the headlights themselves have become more noble: the chrome line and DRLs in a noble way emphasize the texture of the head lighting units.
On the positive side, Toyota fans perceived the refreshed geometry of the front bumper - the spaces for the fog lamps are especially beautifully designed. At the back there are also minor innovations. The optics on the stern have also been upgraded to diode lights. Matching the front end is a chrome line stretched across the dimensions.
In the cabin
Car enthusiasts say that the interior of the restyled car is much better than that of a simple representative of the 11th generation.
Despite the previous architecture, what immediately catches your eye is the large display of a multimedia system hidden behind impact-resistant glossy glass, which is completely translated into the style of modern tablets with touch controls. And these are not the only positive innovations:
- New climate control unit for two zones with rocker keys, like in the Mercedes-Benz GLS .
- Round air deflectors, like Audi's.
- Between the tachometer and speedometer, the monochrome display is replaced with a color one.
- The steering wheel is finished with higher quality material and has a heated rim.
- Four automatic windows.
The interior of the Toyota Corolla 2017 is highly rated by owners. It began to look more representative due to the reduced amount of silver-plated plastic. The main black plastic has become softer, which has a positive effect on the touch effect.
The main “internal” advantage of the Toyota Corolla is the abundance of free space both front and rear. According to this parameter, the car occupies a leading position in the golf class.
What shortcomings were noted by owner reviews in the 2017 Toyota Corolla?
The level of protection of passengers from external noise on a pre-restyling car raised many questions. The published list of improvements includes manipulations for additional sound insulation of the engine shield, front arches and door panels. In fact, even reviews from Toyota RAV4 owners emphasize that the updated Corolla rides quieter on rough asphalt and dirt roads.
Suspension
Owners of pure 11th generation cars complained about the performance of the suspension and power steering. Namely, we were not satisfied with the swing on uneven surfaces and the lack of effort on the steering wheel in the near-zero zone. During the restyling, the following activities were carried out:
- springs and shock absorbers recalibrated;
- less pliable silent blocks are installed;
- strengthened mountings of anti-roll bars;
- The power steering settings have been changed.
The updated character of the restyled Corolla was described in detail by Alexander D. from Voronezh:
Obvious shortcomings
Many owners in their reviews attribute the lack of locking of the locks when starting to drive as a disadvantage of the Toyota Corolla. The luggage compartment is of particular concern. If everything is in order with the volume, then there are outright miscalculations with the organization of space in the luggage compartment, and Vladimir N. clearly points out them:
There are minor complaints about ergonomics. If there is enough adjustment of the chair in any direction, then the longitudinal adjustment of the steering wheel suffers - there is simply not enough of it.
The armrest in the Corolla is also not adjustable, which causes minor inconvenience. Otherwise, the car hides the following shortcomings:
- unreliable paintwork;
- sometimes there are creaks of plastic and extraneous crickets;
- budget finishing of pockets and other niches;
- lack of lighting for rear passengers' feet;
- inaccessibility of heating the rear sofa even in top trim levels;
- synthetic fabric on the chairs.
Summary
The dynamics of the car have not changed: there are still three engines (1.33; 1.6; 1.8 liters) and a manual/variator. But the modernization was a success – in terms of innovations:
- LED headlights and side lights.
- New touch multimedia system.
- Refreshed interior.
- Heated steering wheel.
- Energy-intensive chassis (no longer wobbles).
- Improved sound insulation.
Overall, the car has only minor flaws. The main ones are a poorly designed luggage compartment, insufficient smoothness and unreliable paintwork.

Corolla 2003, body E-12 sedan 1.6 automatic transmission.
Due to the purchase of a new car, the Corolla was sold after 4 years and 6 months with a mileage of exactly 100 thousand kilometers.
The car left the kindest memories as the most convenient and least problematic means of transportation. To the previous report at 87 thousand, which is given below, was added the replacement of the front left shock absorber and, during pre-sale preparation, the replacement of the front caliper guides.
Otherwise everything is great and problem-free.
If Toyota could offer a large passenger all-wheel drive station wagon on our market, the choice would be predetermined. But unfortunately, due to the lack of supply, a Subaru Outback was purchased, but this is another page in life.
Toyota Corolla 2003 Sedan 1.6l automatic, maximum configuration, mileage 87,000, price at the time of purchase 19,980 in rubles at the Central Bank exchange rate. The car was operated in St. Petersburg. 3 years have passed. The warranty has expired and the results of operation can be summed up. And also share his impressions of communicating with this car.
Among the additional equipment purchased in the store - original velor carpets for $92, expensive but still look great. The rest was installed at an independent service station: Alarm + remote trunk opening with remote control – $170, lock on the Dragon gearbox - $150, crankcase protection – $100, towbar – $300 and anti-corrosive – $150.
Total – $1224. Plus 5 forged wheels produced by VSMPO – $400. All maintenance took place at branded stations - usual from 100 to 200 $, and expensive ones, 40 and 80 tons with the replacement of all fluids from 330 to 500, and this takes into account all materials.
In addition, due to my aggressive driving style, the car is already equipped with a third set of front pads, a second set of rear ones and new front brake discs. On average, the front pads last for 35-40 tons, the rear ones for 45-50. With a quiet ride, the resource increases by 1 .5 -2 times.
The list of consumables is completed by light bulbs: 2 H7 low beam lamps, 2 headlights and 1 brake light repeater. Windshield wiper blades last for 1.5 years or 40 t km.
Now about the breakdowns: after a year of operation, at 36 thousand, the right front shock absorber began to knock. In a conversation with the warranty engineer, he honestly admitted that he had put the right wheel into the pits a couple of times. After 2.5 hours I receive a working car. They refused to take money for the shock absorber, its replacement, wheel alignment and washing.
Two years later, at 63 thousand km, there is a knock in the replaced shock absorber - the engineer apologizes for the quality of the spare part. After 2.5 hours I leave the service station. They didn't take the money again.
Three years and one week later, there is a knock in the left front shock absorber, mileage 84 thousand km. A warranty engineer is no longer required. The service station is ready to accept repairs, but the necessary spare parts are missing.
The receiver suggests looking at other service stations or changing a pair. After 15 minutes of searching, the part was found, the car was heading to the repair zone, and I was in a taxi to get the part.
After 4.5 hours I receive the car, this time the station does not refuse the money and accepts it with pleasure. My pocket was lighter by about $300.
I had all the maintenance done on the day of application and in my presence. Regular maintenance took about 2 hours, and larger ones (40 and 80 t.km) from 3.5 to 4.5 hours. If you do not take into account after-sales work and the road to the service station, the car spent approximately 35 hours in service over 3 years.
In general, the quality of service can be assessed as very good. Unfortunately, not all dealers suffer from this and the human factor is of very serious importance. And, oddly enough, the life position of the manager is more important here than that of ordinary employees. Indeed, the Toyota dealer network has indeed experienced a huge wave of cars that need to be serviced and repaired.
In this situation, of course, queues are possible, but with the desire and proper organization of repairs, almost all customers can be satisfied.
My 3-year experience of communicating with Toyota dealers suggests that it is quite possible to carry out any scheduled maintenance on the day of the call, put it in for serious repairs within 1-3 days and complete a not very large body with painting in a couple of weeks.
In terms of operation - the consumption of 95 gasoline in the summer in the city is about 8 liters; in the winter - about 10, at temperatures below 15-20 sharply increases to 12-13 liters.
When you fill it with good 92, the car subjectively becomes faster, but when you try to fill it with 96 or 98, the temperature of the engine rises and it categorically refuses to quickly accelerate the car.
Oil consumption is minimal and allows you to avoid adding oil between changes.
Among the shortcomings of the car, one can note the absence of a liquid level sensor in the washer reservoir and its small volume, this is not enough for the conditions of the North-West. Increased noise from standard Bridgestone tires, although the car brakes and steers normally on these wheels.
The lower part of the front panel and door trims are made of plastic with a pleasant texture but is easily scratched.
The optitron instrument panel looks great both day and night, but during the day when the headlights are turned on, it automatically switches to night mode - you have to increase the brightness, and by night you have to adjust it in the opposite direction. So twice a day is annoying.
Among the advantages - the automatic transmission works exemplary, there is no hesitation and always timely switching. The dynamics for urban conditions are amazing, and the electric power steering is just a song.
Energy-intensive suspension. You can also note the flawlessly working climate – you don’t have to touch the control buttons for months.
The operation of the headlights suggests that the fog lights and additional headlights are just a blessing.
As a result of the assessment, the Corolla is worth its considerable money and leaves a feeling of complete satisfaction in the way it solves the tasks assigned to it.
For those who doubt the balance of this assessment, the Corolla is not the only car that the author drives. The Toyota company consists of: Subaru Legacy 2L automatic transmission 2004, Audi 6 Quattro 2.3 automatic transmission 1998, Audi 4 2L Tiptronic 2005. As well as dozens of tested cars over the last 29 years of driving experience.
