Compared to the sedan, the Corolla iM has significantly better steering and engine responsiveness. Compared to its competitors, the model does not impress with its performance. The power is not enough to have fun. The automatic transmission pleased me with its quick response. Acceleration is too smooth and silent.
When the gas pedal is pressed hard, the engine becomes noisier and faster. But the acceleration is too slow. The indicator is 10 seconds. This is 1.5 seconds worse than the segment average. Interesting features of Toyota Corolla
The first thing that catches your eye as soon as you sit in the driver's seat is the car's interior.
From the outside the car looks very compact, but inside it turns out to be much more spacious than it might seem at first glance.
The Japanese made sure that the ride was as comfortable as possible - there are no protruding parts inside the car, and the front panel is arranged in such a way that you simply forget about its existence.
Although the dashboard looks very solid and features luxury design, it does not cause any inconvenience. Despite the fact that the car looks rather squat, inside you will find high ceilings, in short, everything here is provided for long journeys with maximum convenience.
The entire interior, including the steering wheel and seats, is trimmed with artificial leather, which goes well with the plastic of the dashboard and other elements.
In general, the finishing does not look too cheap, it is a kind of golden mean that stands out from the competition, although this interior is positioned by the manufacturer as premium.
The multimedia system fits well into the leather-plastic design - the Corolla is equipped with an on-board computer with a 7” touch panel, and there is also a GLONASS-type GPS module on board, the antenna of which is located on the roof in a shark fin. Some may find the dashboard too simple and not suitable for a car that claims to be semi-premium, but for the most part this is a matter of taste.
Hidden under the Corolla's multifunction steering wheel is a 4.2-inch status display, which stands out against the general background with an angular edging that gives the impression that a display from a smartphone was cut out and inserted into the dashboard. Happy owners of CD collections will be pleasantly surprised by the presence of a CD drive directly above the main control panel.
The Corolla's audio system is noticeably behind that of the Camry, but there is also something to listen to: two speakers are built into each of the doors - regular, with a predominance of mid-range frequencies, and high-frequency “tweeters”; the composition is completed by a coaxial pair located above the trunk.
By the way, the trunk remained the same volume as that of the previous 11th generation (452 liters); tricks with the size of the internal space did not affect its capacity in any way.
Although the sound quality is fairly average, the company's engineers must have spent a lot of time sweating on optimizing the acoustics, so the speaker layout creates the impression of depth in the sound, but there remains a certain flair of under-immersion, which is especially noticeable in comparison with the Camry.
The climate panel has undergone several updates and has become more futuristic, but it’s a little frustrating that the manufacturer decided to replace the adjustment wheels familiar to older models with less practical and more strict switch buttons, so you’ll have to get used to controlling the temperature and air movement. At the very bottom of the dashboard, right above the ashtray lid, there are buttons for switching the heating of the front seats, a USB slot and a cigarette lighter socket.

In the most basic configuration, the car comes with a 1.3-liter engine and a six-speed manual transmission. The standard kit will cost 855 thousand rubles, but it makes sense to purchase it only if you are a devoted fan of the Corolla and are going to tune it. Khilenky 1.

Owners of less rich trim levels may be slightly disappointed with the traction characteristics - in terms of dynamics, the engine is noticeably inferior to competitors, the car starts slowly and smoothly, but it holds the road well at medium speeds and is ideal for long trips.
When overtaking, the updated Corolla does not feel as confident as we would like, but it has its advantages, namely, modernized damping and control systems.
The car maintains stable traction on winding bumps, and in Russia, with advanced equipment, increased ground clearance is provided. When driving on a straight road, the suspension pays off its value in full - holes and gaps on the asphalt are practically not felt at speeds over 50 km.
As for the braking system, here the Japanese hold their mark, but you will have to get used to the brakes, as well as to the control panel - the pedal does not move linearly, moves tightly and most of the braking force occurs at the beginning of its stroke, so in order to avoid excessive braking, you need press it smoothly.
According to the overall results, Toyota Corolla has shown itself to be an advanced C-class model, which can confidently displace more expensive rivals on the pedestal.
Of course, like any budget car, it has minor drawbacks, and maximum driving comfort is achieved only when purchasing a Corolla in the Prestige package.
This car is best suited for a small family that rarely travels beyond good road surfaces.

At the same time that Toyota introduced the new Auris hatchback earlier this month, there were also suggestions that the car is a direct descendant of the American Corolla iM, but these assumptions were just assumptions.
But yesterday, Toyota confirmed that the new 2019 Corolla Hatchback will debut at the upcoming New York Auto Show.
The similarities between the new Corolla and Auris are visible to the naked eye, which is not surprising, because the hatchback is built using the same Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform that underlies the Auris.
A new, lighter and more rigid platform, paired with a sports suspension, according to Toyota representatives, will add stability to the car and improve handling. In addition, the car turned out to be lower, wider and longer than its predecessor Corolla iM.
Externally, the new Corolla also looks more attractive than the iM. The headlights are more prominent, and the body lines have a bit more of a Toyota-esque look.
The angular taillights and curved shape of the rear end make the hatchback look more European.
At the front, the Corolla Hatchback has its own version of the corporate-style grille, which is very reminiscent of the Prius Prime.
Under the hood, the Corolla will receive a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine. Power and torque figures are still unknown, but Toyota promises it will be more powerful and more fuel-efficient than before; The 2018 Corolla iM produces 137 hp. and 170 N.m. torque. Instead of integrating it into the center console, Toyota mounted the 8.0-inch touchscreen higher up. The connected interface has finally gained Apple CarPlay compatibility.
But non-Apple users are out of luck as Toyota hasn't added Android Auto yet.
Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist. As with all 2019 models, a rearview camera also comes standard.
Toyota has not yet announced a price or on-sale date, but more details may be available once the new Corolla Hatchback is officially revealed at the New York Auto Show later this month.
