Mazda 3 or Toyota Corolla?

Mazda 3 or Toyota Corolla?

Frequently, sophisticated buyers of Japanese middle-class cars are faced with the question: which of these two models to choose? Which car will make their life happier: Mazda 3 or the star of our site, Toyota Corolla? This is not surprising, since the brands are very similar both in price and in most operational parameters. And the more buyers delve into comparing their characteristics and qualities, the more confused they sometimes become. Let's try to help them.

The choice is truly difficult. After all, each of the machines deserves a very high rating in its class, has high quality production of individual parts and the entire assembly technology as a whole. Their performance qualities are also at the highest level.

The main parameters in the difficult choice between Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla are:

  • car price;
  • engine power and its rating life;
  • fuel consumption per 100 kilometers;
  • dynamic characteristics;
  • comfort and ergonomics of the interior;
  • appearance;
  • durability.

It is not at all necessary that car enthusiasts, when comparing, arrange these qualities in exactly this order of importance, but the fact that all this is taken into account in the first place is undoubtedly.

First, let's look at and analyze each car separately.

Mazda3 hatchback

Winner of the Red Dot Award 2014 for design, the car was included in the final group of the world competition "Best Design of the Year 2014" and "World Car of the Year 2014"

And the series of victories for the Mazda3 is unlikely to end there. Modernizations in design, ergonomic and functional qualities are constantly being improved. The only model not made in Germany became a competitor in the finals of the competition to such models from brand manufacturers as the Audi A3 and BMW 4.

Currently, the Mazda3 concern's production volume is estimated at 4 million vehicles. Prices for the minimum configuration are from 645 thousand rubles.

Technical characteristics of Mazda 3

Body, interior

Mazda 3 belongs to the golf class car in the form of a five-door hatchback. It looks sporty and respectable, chic and alluring. The front is aggressively tailored, the radiator grille fits onto the original shaped hood. The C-pillar is triangular, the upper body line looks sporty and streamlined.

Following the hatchback in 2003, a sedan body appeared. The sedan looks original and businesslike due to its raised front end.

The sporty look of the car is combined with a comfortable and spacious interior. The seats have a comfortable shape with lateral support. We should also talk about the steering column. It is adjustable as for tilt.

same in terms of reach, thanks to which a person of almost any configuration fits comfortably in the driver’s workplace.
Electronic braking systems ABS and brake force distribution create active driving safety. Comfort for the driver and passengers is worthy only of praise.

In addition, when entering a tunnel, if there is unexpected darkness, the rain sensor and headlights automatically turn on.

The instrument panel has three deep wells, and the volume control for the music center is located right on the center console.

Power plant, transmission, suspension

The engine has a durable aluminum cylinder block, and many of its other parts are also made in a lightweight form. Engine capacity is 1.6 liters diesel and 1.4 liters petrol. Effective power is achieved by stepwise changing the timing of the intake valves. Gasoline consumption is rated at 9 liters per 100 kilometers in the city and 7 liters on the highway.

The manual gearbox has five stages, a very clear and short shift lever stroke. The automatic transmission has 4 speeds and is distinguished by its energy-efficient power transmission and sporty character.

The two-liter models have hydro-electric power steering. All wheels have only reliable disc brakes.

The clearance of the Mazda 3 hatchback is 140mm. Low-profile tires together with a multi-link suspension ensure high vehicle controllability at high speeds and emergency safety.

Toyota Corolla

The world leader in the number of cars produced, the Toyota concern, presents the latest models of its Toyota Corolla products in an improved form.

Corolla is a long-liver in the Toyota family. After all, the first model was manufactured back in 1966! Over fifty years of impeccable work, 40 million cars rolled off the assembly line of the automaker.

Main technical characteristics

Power point

Of course, the modern Toyota Corolla does not in any way resemble its ancestor - the first model released. Today it is a five-door sedan, spacious and comfortable.

Having excellent driving characteristics, the Toyota Corolla is a fairly “reasonable” option on the global car market.

The 1.6-liter engine modification has a dual electronic variable valve timing system Dual VVT-i, an intelligent ETCS-I throttle control system, and an individual ignition system for each cylinder.

Toyota Corolla's leadership among its competitors is also determined by its power characteristics. With an engine speed of 6000 per second and a power of 124 horsepower, gasoline consumption is only 6.9 liters per 100 kilometers! With all this, the car can still accelerate to a speed of 100 km/h in five seconds.

Suspension

The smoothness of the Toyota Corolla is quite comparable to similar parameters of high-class and very expensive cars. The upgraded suspension with a ground clearance of 150mm creates excellent handling both in straight-line motion and when cornering. The steering wheel is sensitive, and together with the rear semi-independent suspension it is able to keep the car from skidding on almost any road.

The chassis is made according to a special design, has a long wheelbase with angular wheels. Therefore, even when driving at very high speeds, the Toyota Corolla remains securely and easily on the road.

Salon

The comfort of the car's interior does not leave much to be desired and is second only to the Camry in this regard, but not everyone can notice this difference.

The French interior of the Toyota Corolla was developed taking into account the tastes of primarily European consumers. The driver's seat is very comfortable; you can drive in it almost the whole day and not feel tired. All devices are clearly visible, you can easily reach any control element. All data from the on-board network is displayed on the central screen in front of the driver.

All vehicle trim levels have an adjustable steering column in height and tilt. The side mirrors are electric, the front seats are heated, and the rear seats are foldable.

The driver is protected in the event of a collision by a new pedal assembly and a safety steering column. The front seat backrests reliably protect the driver's and front passenger's necks from a rear impact from injury in the event of an impact.

Taking into account all the new products, the Corolla remains an excellent representative of the middle class, takes its reliable place in the sales market and is unlikely to give it up to anyone. The current price of the car is from 559 thousand rubles

Comparison of the main characteristics of Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla

Advantages of Mazda 3

Quickly comparing the technical characteristics of the cars, we can conclude that the advantages of Mazda 3 cars include the original appearance, exquisite interior, and high engine power characteristics.

Disadvantages of Mazda 3

Very low ground clearance for Russian roads, excessively stiff suspension, higher specific fuel consumption compared to the Corolla, and a slightly higher price of the car.

Advantages of Toyota Corolla

The main advantages of this car are high reliability and durability, practicality, smooth ride, lower specific fuel consumption, higher ground clearance, optimal saturation of electronics, larger interior volume, lower price.

Disadvantages of Toyota Corolla

Simpler appearance and interior, lower engine power characteristics.

And what?!

So, looking at the meager comparison results, making a single choice still remains problematic. The more rational thing to do in this case is to do what has been tried and tested: go to the forum of car users and listen to their opinion.

Advice from experienced people (selections from car enthusiast forums)

404 Not Found:
A friend of mine had a Mazda 3. We drove together a lot. Sound insulation is poor (my E150 was much quieter). The suspension is stiff, it sends all the cracks on the road to your butt... Five years later we bought new ones: he – Mazda 5СХ, I – Corolla E160. Who cares... each car has its own buyer.

Dandy:
What I liked most was the design of the new three-ruble car – Mazda. It seems that only this Japanese manufacturer has not lost its sobriety of thought and balance between European standards and Eastern practicality. The rest of the models are clearly Asian.

Vitaly:
IMHO... It’s like an elephant stood on the roof of the Mazda, the poor thing already caved in. I like the Corolla better.

Valedjio:
Mazda costs are much more expensive and the engines are more suitable for the American market. With our gasoline... coke, detonation. Corolla is more reliable, a proven option!

Dandy:
My friend’s arches on his Mazda rotted in a year and a half. It all started with small saffron milk caps, and when I took off my lockers, there were holes. So afraid of reagents. Here's Mazda!

Goll:
The neighbor drives a Mazda 5 with the SkyActiv system. I do not like. Stupid and lazy, he said... Just now they stuck it all on the matryokha. Think...

baton:
Mazda has more options, but there is almost no ground clearance. A friend was exhausted listening to his Mazda shoveling ice and snow drifts every time. The Corolla is more versatile, but has fewer options. And the name also adds a green or two to the price. In short, on the highway it’s a Mazda, no question. But forever and without complaints about service or design - Toyota, of course.

Alexey:
Toyota is a thing! Tested a hundred times. There is nothing more reliable from the Japanese. And our roads are OK. The matryoshka is hard, especially if it’s on a rough road. And Corolla is comfort.

tuapseslov:
On my Matryoshka, already at the age of three, rust began to creep on the chipped paint. And when I sold it, buyers found a lot in the trunk, under the spare wheel.

xromovich:
I used to drive a Mazda, then I also had a choice. Cannot be compared. As a result, now the Corolla is for the whole family. And Mazda - if on its own. In addition, CASCO is hellish and theft statistics are not encouraging.

dz2504:
I don’t see a single advantage in the Mazda 3. The sedan is so molded out of theme... It's cramped. The bug is real on our roads, especially in winter. And the appearance is for eccentrics, I think.

Jury verdict (not subject to discussion!!!):

The most original statement comes from Droide:
PS Buy a car that is closer to your liking, it will make it easier to bear both joy and sorrow.

Mazda 3 or Toyota Corolla? Detailed comparison of competitors

Among fans of the Japanese brands Mazda and Toyota, there is a huge debate about which car is better. After the release of the eleventh generation Toyota Corolla, competition with Mazda 3 has increased significantly. It's time to compare Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla.

Ride quality of competitors

It’s not interesting to compare which car is more beautiful than the Toyota Corolla or Mazda 3. All opinions are subjective, and the difference becomes more blurred with each generation. Therefore, let's move straight to the driving performance.

Mazda has always relied on sporty dynamics. But the time of two-liter engines for Mazda 3 is gone. Mazda 3 or Toyota Corolla drives well, which is better? The latest Mazda 3 with a one and a half liter engine has 120 horsepower.

The car accelerates well and corners at high speed. When starting from a traffic light, Mazda wins a fraction of a second. But, as soon as the revolutions approach 4000, the control unit limits the fuel supply in favor of environmental standards, thereby worsening the dynamics.

And even a 6-speed classic automatic doesn’t save the situation.

A Corolla with a 1.6 liter engine of 122 hp, equipped with a continuously variable transmission, feels more harmonious. Toyota engineers went towards environmental friendliness and efficiency through new technologies and changes in electronic settings, without using mechanical and electronic dampers. As a result, the Corolla, losing at the beginning, later outperforms the Mazda 3 both in urban conditions and on the highway.

To improve handling, the Mazda suspension is quite stiff, but on rough roads this has a downside in the form of deterioration in comfort. Toyota moves more smoothly on Russian roads. The handling of cars varies at the level of nuances. Average gasoline consumption is almost the same among competitors and depends rather on the style of movement.

Engine

Let's take a closer look at the comparison of Toyota Corolla and Mazda 3 in technical equipment.

The Corolla 1.6 1ZR FE VVT-i power unit is the most popular, created using advanced technologies. Engine power - 122 hp. at 6000 rpm. Torque - 157 N*m at 5200 rpm.

Engine Mazda 3 SKYACTYV-G 1.5 is a modern engine with a high compression ratio and innovative developments. The engine produces 120 horsepower at 6000 rpm, and peak torque is 150 Nm at 4000 rpm.

Both engines consume exclusively 95-octane gasoline.

Transmission

It makes no sense to compare fundamentally different automatic transmission options for the Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla. More than one article could be devoted to this.

How to compare a classic Mazda automatic with a torque converter, equipped with modern electronic control, and a Corolla CVT? Yes, the variator changes torque on the wheels a little faster and easier, but it all depends on the driver and the purposes for using the car.

We advise you to read: Checking the real consumption of Mazda 6: Healthy appetite

Safety

The Mazda 3 is equipped with better security systems. There are such modern systems as:

  • lane tracking;
  • blind spot monitoring;
  • automatic switching system from low to high beam;
  • head-up display above the dashboard with duplicate speed information.

The Corolla cannot boast of such things. There is only a stability control system and a rear view camera.

Suspension and brakes

The suspension of the Mazda 3 is composed and sporty. The front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension allow you to perfectly define the trajectory when turning. Accurate reactions to steering wheel turns or brake pedal actions. In contrast, the Corolla has a semi-independent suspension at the rear, providing passengers with greater ride comfort. The brakes are also precise and informative.

Volume and mass

The geometric dimensions of the cars are very close. You might think that they are built on the same platform - the wheelbase is the same down to the millimeter and is 2700 mm for both cars. The Corolla is slightly longer and taller. The curb weight of the Mazda 3 is 1296 kg, and the Toyota Corolla is 1375 kg. But the volume of internal space varies more.

Salon

Inside the Mazda 3 there is a vertical center console with an aluminum-look insert. The multimedia system screen rises above it. On the central tunnel there is a control joystick “a la BMW”. Instrument panel with tachometer in the center and digital speed display. Sports steering wheel with paddle shifters for automatic manual mode.

The interior of the Corolla is classically austere. The car has a multimedia screen built into the front panel, unlike the Mazda. The climate control unit is located under the front panel. The dashboard has classic instruments with an on-board computer screen in the middle. The steering wheel looks rustic.

Comfort

Both cars have good ergonomics: all devices and controls are in their places. The driver's seat in the Mazda 3 is very comfortable, despite the seats with extensive lateral support. Comparison with Corolla seats will not reveal a winner. The Toyota seat is looser for people of larger size, but the seating position is also good.

In the back row of the Mazda 3, riders rest their knees on the front backrests, but the headroom is greater than that of the competitor. There is a fairly high central tunnel, so a third person in the back seat will be uncomfortable.

When compared, the Toyota Corolla sedan offers a more comfortable rear seat and a large amount of space in front of the passengers' knees. But it’s not enough above the head.

But Toyota does not have a central tunnel, and therefore it will comfortably accommodate three people from behind.

In terms of acoustic comfort, the Corolla is ahead; it is much quieter here than in the Mazda.

When evaluating cars based on the convenience of the luggage compartment, it is worth noting that the Mazda 3 sedan has a trunk volume of 408 liters and protruding wheel arches. The Corolla provides 44 liters more cargo space, which is important on long journeys.

Comparison of equipment

Mazda 3 in dealer showrooms is presented in sedan and hatchback body styles. Sedan in the basic Active+ version with a 1.6 104 hp engine. and a 4-speed automatic transmission costs 1,181,000 rubles.

Maximum Exclusive configuration with 1.5 120 hp engine. and a 6-speed automatic transmission will cost 1,356,800 rubles.

The hatchback in its only configuration with a 1.5-liter engine and 6-automatic transmission is estimated at 1,271,000 rubles.

The Corolla is only available as a sedan, but has 6 different trim levels. First Standard 1.33 l 99 hp with a 6-speed manual transmission in the price list it has a price of 933,000 rubles. Top equipment Prestige 1.8 l 140 hp with a CVT it rises to 1,339,000 rubles.

Advantages and Benefits

Mazda 3 Toyota Corolla
Dynamic car Very responsive and playful car
Impeccable handling The car handles very well
Comfortable driving position and good visibility Large distance between rows of seats
Reliability Comfortable suspension
Equipped with electronic systems Acoustic comfort

Weaknesses and typical problems

Mazda 3 Toyota Corolla
Insufficient sound insulation Lower ground clearance
Harsh suspension Front brakes squeak
The back seat is cramped. Rear view camera produces unclear image
Theftability, additional measures are required. When the trunk is full, its hinges rest against the luggage
Small trunk Weak paint coating

Final conclusions of comparisons

As a result of comparing these extraordinary cars, we are faced with a dilemma. On the one hand they are very similar, but on the other they are completely different! Mazda 3 does not allow you to drive slowly and sedately.

This goes against her entire philosophy. Corolla is more conservative and comfortable. You can move on it quietly and smoothly.

After studying all the pros and cons from different angles, you can join one of two armies of fans.

Choosing between Toyota Corolla and Mazda 3, Perm

– Mazda base for 688 tr. against the base 719t.r. at Toyota Corolla

The choice between two completely Japanese cars. My wife and I chose it so that she could also drive without problems and with a spacious interior and with an automatic transmission. In the end, we settled on these two options.

I'm interested in the + and - that you know about these cars, and I'm also interested in the feedback from those who already drive these cars. The Mazda is frightened by its low ground clearance, not very powerful engine, and fuel consumption.

I don’t know anything about Toyota, nothing really is written on the forums.

#2 Roomper Posted on 05/24/2012 – 09:53 pm The Corolla is more comfortable, more rolly, more bland, a car for housewives in general, it has more space in the rear seats. If you burn, play “checkers”, drive “like a kid” and generally have a “type of racing car” then of course a Mazda.#4 alban4err Posted 05/24/2012 – 23:55[quote name='Roomper' timestamp='1337878418' post ='9728000'] The Corolla is more comfortable, more rolling, more bland, a car for housewives in general, it has more space in the rear seats. I'm interested in feedback from those who already drive these cars.

Corolla 1.4. 2008 I took a new one from the salon. For more than 3 years, not a single breakdown. Average gasoline consumption is 7 liters per 100 km. I carry out the maintenance myself or go to the officials and order from them only the types of work I need. (I.e. changing oil, brake fluid, etc. That is, something that I don’t want to do myself.

I consider it stupid to pay for a replacement cabin filter, diagnostics of lighting devices and other checks. I do such things myself) In general, my resume is as follows: reliable, inexpensive for everyday use (in principle, I don’t buy spare parts, the maintenance I get is cheap, it doesn’t eat gasoline - it sniffs it, insurance and taxes are low (power 98 hp).

), tires and wheels were also cheaper than on a Mazda. R15 instead of Mazda R16) car.#6 Roomper Sent 05.25.2012 – 09:25#7 Ivan89 Sent 05.28.

Corolla 2011, I've been driving since February, 6 speed manual transmission, I'm completely satisfied, the suspension is neither soft nor hard - for me it's just the right amount of comfort, I recently measured the average consumption in the city - if you save - 7.8 l/100 km, if not very much + Conder -8.5-9 l/100. The 1.6-dynamic engine is still enough, and there is probably more space in the cabin than in a Mazda

Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla: Pixel by pixel – Behind the wheel magazine

Mazda 3: price - from 619,000 rubles, Toyota Corolla: price - from 637,000 rubles.

When we started this comparative test, we, of course, knew what an emotional area we were invading. After all, there are not many cars whose buyers, with rare exceptions, represent an irreconcilable community, ready to tear to shreds anyone who dares to encroach on the object of their adoration.

The interior of the Mazda3 is finished with high-quality materials and looks elegant and expensive.

The interior of the Mazda3 is finished with high-quality materials and looks elegant and expensive.

According to the writer Alexei Ivanov, who deftly explains many of the social grimaces of modern Russia, this attitude towards the car can be called a typical example of the so-called “pixel thinking”. Pixel is such an extremely simple discrete thinking, formulated mainly in the form of slogans: Mazda - “zoom-zoom”, cool car; Toyota is boring, but reliable.

A simple monochromatic truth (pixel) or a set of truths is taken as the basis for the attitude towards a particular object. When summed up, they create a clear and clear picture of the world, devoid of doubts and variations, and because of this, such a picture cannot be refuted or challenged.

Pixel thinking, in principle, does not involve reflection and reasoning - only ready-made postulates and perception models built on them. This is why a constructive dialogue between typical Mazda3 and Toyota Corolla owners is impossible, although both cars come from Japan, which in itself is already one big pixel that crosses out all cars with a different origin.

Japanese means good. And there is simply no other way. No other cars. Everything that is not from Japan is a set of obscene words.

It is not surprising that all other car enthusiasts do not really like such fans. Especially those who drive a Mazda3, since most of their owners have an extremely aggressive driving style.

But even more Mazda3 and Toyota Corolla owners don’t like insurance companies - it’s been a long time since we’ve seen such harsh prices for comprehensive insurance policies! In the table we indicate the lowest prices obtained as a result of calling various insurers, so the reader may not be very scared by them.

But in general, it must be said that some insurance companies frankly do not want to deal with such cars, setting prohibitive prices reaching up to 40% of the cost of the car! One agent honestly admitted to us that these models are included in the “black list”, and the Mazda3 is listed as number one on it - it has the most expensive insurance.

“Too many new drivers! They fight too often!” the agent lamented...

Indeed, the Mazda3 and Toyota Corolla are often regarded as the first and only car, so it is not at all surprising that the lion's share of sales falls on versions with an automatic transmission.

Until recently, the Toyota Corolla did not have a full-fledged automatic transmission, only a surrogate in the form of a “robot” with one single automated clutch, about which owners received a lot of complaints for “ragged” operation and inability to start uphill.

But now the “robot” has been retired, and in its place has come the good old 4-speed hydraulic mechanics. The most affordable Corolla with such a gearbox and a 1.6-liter engine with 124 hp. will cost 699,000 rubles.

The equipment for this money is quite decent and includes the necessary minimum of amenities inherent in any modern car. The only thing missing is a dynamic handling stabilization system - it is still not available for the Russian version of the Toyota Corolla.

The new Mazda3, fortunately, has a stabilization system in all trim levels, and the most affordable version with automatic transmission (also 4-speed hydromechanical), 1.6-liter 105-horsepower engine and almost the same equipment as Toyota costs a little less - 679 000 rubles. We tested cars with the indicated power units, but in slightly more expensive trim levels.

Well, anticipating what an uproar might arise on the site in the comments to this test (they say, how can you compare this! Yes, Toyota is a hundred times more reliable than Mazda! Yes, your Toyota is just ugly compared to Mazda! Yes, you have a zoom-zoom brain! Yes, your Corolla is a cow!), We hasten to inform you that our business is to compare cars that are similar in technical characteristics, equipment and prices. It is not our fault that pixel thinking dominates over common sense in our country. We're just doing our job.

In the city

When more than a year ago we, journalists, were just getting acquainted with the new Mazda3 on the mountain roads of Portugal, the 1.6-liter gasoline engine was frankly disappointing. There was almost always not enough power, the dynamics seemed mediocre. But what happened now! Where does such agility come from?! Is it really all about different environmental settings?

The “Russian” Mazda3 accelerates confidently, and the lack of gears in the automatic transmission is not felt at all, gears are switched promptly and smoothly - amazingly well-coordinated operation of the power unit! In the city it is very comfortable - fast overtaking, precise execution of commands, confidence in every maneuver. It is not surprising that the owners of “three rubles” “embroider” so confidently in the flow.

The chassis is also excellent for urban slalom, confidently filtering out most micro-irregularities and passing tram tracks and speed bumps without major shocks.

The Toyota Corolla's suspension is tuned noticeably stiffer and has better energy efficiency, but you only experience joy from this when driving on very rough roads. Micro-irregularities constantly seep into the cabin in the form of small vibrations, and after a while you begin to get tired of this.

The duet of the engine and automatic transmission, alas, is not as harmonious as in Mazda: in order to get the desired maximum acceleration, you have to press the gas pedal to the floor with noticeable force, and only after precious seconds does the gearbox switch to a lower gear. There is no manual mode like Mazda's. “Treshka” doesn’t need it, but Corolla wouldn’t hurt at all. In general, driving around the city in a Mazda3 is more convenient and easier than driving a Toyota Corolla.

In the country

At highway speeds, it's clear that the new Mazda3 has been designed to suit the tastes of German buyers. The car holds a straight line perfectly, and there is no trace left of the former nervousness, when the slightest vibration of the steering wheel causes a sharp change in course. On good asphalt, the car literally floats above the road, which, coupled with the low noise level, makes the “three ruble” similar to models in the premium segment.

Driving on bad roads, however, is no longer so pleasant: the suspension does not handle large irregularities in the best way, forcing the driver to slow down and avoid the roughest potholes and bald spots.

The Toyota Corolla copes with large bumps less painfully: it has more ground clearance and better energy-intensive suspension - it drives more confidently on rough roads than the Mazda3.

On smooth asphalt, however, the Toyota does not provide any luxury sensations, and overtaking due to the thoughtfulness of the automatic transmission requires some skill, but in general, due to its better adaptability to bad roads, it is no worse suited for long trips than the Mazda3.

Controllability

Good chassis tuning has always distinguished the Mazda3 from its competitors, and now all versions are also equipped with a stabilization system, which not every car in this class can boast of.

And although the Mazda3 has become softer and more comfortable than the previous generation models, it still reacts very quickly to steering turns and gives the passionate driver a bouquet of desired adrenaline emotions.

The steering is extremely informative, as are the brakes, which allow you to precisely control the degree of deceleration.

The Toyota Corolla's brakes are no worse, but in other respects it is inferior to the three-ruble note. The synthetic feedback steering doesn't provide the confidence you need when cornering, and responses to driver commands aren't as precise or predictable as we'd like.

The simpler rear suspension design (torsion beam for Toyota and multi-link mechanism for Mazda) makes the Corolla “jump” off the line in corners with a complex profile or simply on bumps.

The Corolla does not have a stabilization system even in the most expensive trim levels and is not offered for an additional fee, which also does not add points to this car - Toyota loses the handling round.

Ergonomics and comfort

With high-quality finishing materials and an abundance of buttons and displays, the Mazda3 interior makes an expensive impression.

There are no complaints about the ergonomics of the driver's seat: the seat is comfortable and has a wide range of adjustments, the controls are conveniently located, and visibility, despite the rather deep seating position, is good.

The only thing that can cause displeasure is the different-sized displays under a separate visor at the top of the center console: for some reason they are of different colors and with different fonts, which looks a little ridiculous.

The back seat is expectedly cramped: there is barely enough space for large adult passengers, and long journeys are unlikely to be enjoyable.

Mazda3 is equipped with a fairly high-quality audio system for cars of this class. This means that its sound is at least not annoying, but for some reason you can only listen to a CD for 30–40 minutes, after which it gets very hot and starts to stutter.

The trunk is quite spacious by the standards of its class.

The trunk is quite spacious by the standards of its class.

The audio system in the Toyota Corolla has its own “glitches”: the liquid crystal display sometimes freezes in an eerie pixelated grimace, and can only be revived by restarting the engine. The sound sometimes seems simply unbearable - you don’t want to listen to music in Toyota at high volume.

There is more space for hand luggage in the Toyota Corolla

Finding a comfortable driving position in a Toyota is more difficult than in a Mazda, especially if you like to sit correctly, with the backrest set almost vertically - this is simply impossible to do here due to limitations in adjustments.

Not everyone will like devices with short arrows that are difficult to see in peripheral vision.

But the rear seat passengers in the Toyota have a little more space than in the Mazda - there is more headroom, but not everyone will want to consider this a serious advantage.

Overall, we liked the Mazda's interior more: it is finished with slightly higher quality materials and in terms of ergonomics will suit the vast majority of drivers, but for passengers, both cars, alas, are not the most desirable acquisition.

The Toyota Corolla has a slightly larger and more convenient trunk.

The Toyota Corolla has a slightly larger and more convenient trunk.

Practicality

The trunk capacity and interior transformation capabilities of rivals are approximately the same: the seat backs fold in a 2:1 ratio, forming a step between the cabin and the trunk floor.

And yet, the Toyota trunk is a little more convenient due to its 20 liters larger volume and a wider “window” between the trunk and the passenger compartment. The Toyota Corolla is equipped with a full-size spare wheel, while the Mazda3 is content with only a narrow spare wheel.

In addition, the Toyota has two glove compartments instead of the Mazda's one (and rather modest one), so the Corolla wins a small victory in the field of practicality.

conclusions

In many consumer qualities, the Mazda3 looks more convincing than the Toyota Corolla, or at least not inferior to it. On the side of the three-ruble note is a bright design, a more modern chassis, a well-tuned power unit and better equipment with safety equipment. However, at the end of last year, Corolla found more buyers in our country than Mazda3.

What's the secret? Toyota's more reliable reputation? In the change of generations Mazda3? Hard to tell. Buyer preferences, alas, are not always supported by any conscious motives and logic. Often, slogans and opinions of friends are the strongest argument when choosing a car, and nothing can be done about it. And I don’t really want to, to be honest.

Mazda 3 Vs New Toyota Corolla – Mazda's Choice

I decided to open a new topic instead of “Dissuade me from waiting for the new Corolla.” Because the conversation has already gone completely off topic and searching through multi-page topics is difficult. So we have a Toyota Sedan, 1.6 l, MultiMode Elegance $22,700 And a Mazda 3 in a similar configuration with mechanics at new prices 19800 + 400 + 1690 = 22580 There are slight differences in the configuration, characteristics, etc.

Of the most significant 1) Different gearboxes, the advantages of a robotic gearbox are not obvious over a full-fledged automatic transmission, Mazda, but I compared it with a manual one! And the Mazda automatic turns out to be even more expensive and significantly more expensive. 2) Toyota does not have DSC, if I understand correctly. 3) Mazda does not have MP3 support, and this bothers many people, i.e. read “add.

expenses in the future” 4) Queues on the M3 - no comment 5) And now, attention, technical. characteristics (official source) the engine size is the same, but the power is 124 hp. Toyota vs 105 Mazda, respectively max.

speed 196 versus 185 dimensions: in all respects Mazda is inferior in fuel consumption, with “two pedals” on Toyota it is the same 6) The slogan “Drive your dream” is of course more suitable for Mazda, because those who have been waiting for it for a little over six months (and sometimes even “more”) have to do just that.7) The most important thing, of course, is the design, but here, in my opinion, it’s pointless to compare them.

They're just different. Mazda is bold and fast, while Toyota is calm and personable. I don’t want to convince anyone that Toyota is better, gentlemen, but the facts... Maybe I didn't take something into account.

Still, it’s worth going to the Corolla Club and chatting with the owners. For some reason, the reviews from king breeders about the new one are not very good. Mazda3 1.6 with an automatic transmission is very weak. Navigating around the city in traffic jams is all right, but if you want to travel more actively, it’s not at all the same.

I don’t understand where the figure of 1690 came from? If we’re going to compare, then it’s like this: Mazda3 1.6MT Touring Sedan 19800(base) + 400(metallic) = 20200 vs Corolla 1.6MT – 19950(base) + ? (metallic) = 19950 Mazda3 1.6AT – 21300(base) + 400(metallic) = 21700 vs Corolla 1.6MMT – 21000(base) + ?(metallic) = 21000, taking into account the fact that touring is richer in terms of little things (leather on the steering wheel and etc.) – in a manual, the Mazda is preferable in terms of price, in an automatic – it’s hard to say.

It looks kind of scary IMHO, this new Corolla sedan.

1690 – Climate + casting + DCS It’s really difficult to compare. You can do this 1000: Climate + casting. Because Apparently there is no DCS on Toyota, it’s true that there is no casting either. It’s still better to take the 22700 package from Toyota; it’s closer to the Touring. I didn’t find the cost of color on Toyota, maybe. does the price depend on it? Then Mazda3 1.6AT – 21300(base) + 400(metallic) + 1000 = 22700 vs Corolla 1.6MMT – 22700(base) + ?(metallic) = 22700 + ? But for a Mazda 1.6 automatic it’s clearly not enough, for a Toyota MMT it’s just right. If you buy a Mazda mechanic, you will save on price, but you will have to pull the handle for that money.

Yesterday I saw it, it’s not so scary, Mazda is certainly more charismatic, but see point 7

Apolo_1 ,
Keep in mind that Toyota has maintenance every 10,000 km. + prices for that. IMHO ARIUS may still be okay, but the sedan is like someone who didn’t have enough for a Camry. Although I don't like the Camry either. It’s better to buy an MZ Touring 2.0 with a 6-speed manual transmission for the money and you will be happy.

Well, to be honest, I don’t care what it’s called. For me this brand has been dead for a long time. The price tag is nothing. The design is amazing. The quality is just like Japanese.

What are you arguing about? What's the point in arguing? aren't you tired? who likes Corolla, buy Corolla, who likes Mazda, buy Mazda. A purchase based on someone else's opinion, but which contradicts your inner attraction, will sooner or later lead to regret.

Guys, the Corolla has been rubbed more than once and not only on our forum, I personally think that I came to the salon and looked at it, took a test drive, then went to the forums and car websites, read it, took another test drive - this is it It's called a person who can't make up his mind, but here it's one thing at a time, what's the point of looking at the letters?
they won’t say anything anyway, yesterday I just talked to an acquaintance who buys a Corolla (we didn’t argue, we just exchanged impressions and opinions), he likes the Corolla, and I like the Mazda, that’s what we came to and that’s all. Doesn't he feel any discomfort because the Corolla doesn't have DSC? he doesn’t need it, but on the contrary, it’s good for me that he has it. He likes the interior of the Corolla, and I like the Mazda. He likes the fact that there is MP3, and I like the multimedia steering wheel. We are different. The difference in selection criteria, tastes, views and many other things is simply pointless to argue about. Obstacles exist only for those who cannot fly. Elbert Hubbard

I was driving recently, I saw there was a new “Driving while dreaming”, I went back to take a closer look: 1. Large (why do you need a big car?) Large cars, according to statistics, are bought by those comrades who have problems with the size of the face 2. The glass line is well made, but look at rear door glass is a “loophoal” 3. The muzzle is a breed on a Camry – too zealous

4. Price 19950 1.6 engine car with “oars” (rear windows) no fog lights, plastic steering wheel, etc. – a bit expensive

Conclusion: I HATE SHE!!!!!!

The Corolla's equipment is too poor compared to the Mazda. Although purely from the outside I like the car. But keep in mind - it was originally designed specifically for the markets of China and India, i.e. for 3rd world countries and then decided to supply to Russia. In short, it’s not somehow prestigious, even though it’s a Toyota. Here is Auris - they made it for Europe.

Thanked by: 1 User:

I bought this miracle called New Corolla for my mother, while I was finishing it up (I took the package for 22700 + installed castings, signaling, parking sensors, xenon, etc.) I had the honor of driving it even in a Mazda car. What can I tell you: go for a test drive of both cars, the question will disappear by itself... The robot doesn't drive the Corolla at all... 124 horses are wasted. Press it and you can take a nap while it accelerates... But when it switches, it’s terrible with your nose to the windshield every time, it’s very poorly made. A regular automatic on a Maska is much better. Everything else is not for everyone, the interior is quite decent, the ride is better than the Mazda but at the expense of stability, the Shumka, although a Toyota, is not what it is, the MP3 is undoubtedly a plus IMHO

Thanked by: 1 User:

Apolo_1 , I can argue in favor of Mazda that there is a big plus - it has undergone restaling, which means many childhood diseases have been corrected, which cannot be said about Toyota. For example, I have already heard that one of the kings is in 800 km. The paint is chipped on all the folds. The next argument is the maintenance period and its cost. If I'm not mistaken, then within 20,000 km. on the Corolla you need to undergo three maintenance services with a total cost of about 12,000 rubles, but on the Mazda there is only one and its cost is much cheaper. Statistics on thefts also do not add any advantages to the Corolla; they are in greater demand among car thieves than Matryoshka dolls...

I talked to a guy at the tire shop here, he had a new Corolla, his car was working, only 8 units.
bought for work. So he said: “as a work car it’s fine, but I wouldn’t buy it for myself, and none of the drivers like the robot (it just infuriates me - literally), but with the mechanics the car is normal, comfort is 5, driving performance is 3.” My conscience is so pure and transparent that it is simply not visible.

bullshit, of the Toyota sedans, I only like the Camry, and then in the old body, and not like now

Thanked by: 1 User:

A colleague recently bought a Korolka... 1.6 manual. Senya, I had a short test drive. Tactile sensations: low quality plastic, thin steering wheel. All controls are located correctly and conveniently. Visually: the design is reminiscent of a Camry. The size of the car is almost business class, although with the driver’s height of 180 cm, the rear passengers feel uncomfortable; apparently the trunk “ate up” a lot of space, which, admittedly, is very large. In terms of driving performance: the engine is soft, torquey, the steering is moderately sharp, the suspension is of medium hardness; when turning at low speeds, body roll was observed. Basic equipment: 1.6 manual, air conditioning 19950 USD. IMHO. If I had a choice, the Mazda3 would be my choice. Dynamics, control, ergonomics, quality of interior materials are a level higher... This is my PERSONAL opinion...

Dissuading, like persuading, is not a rewarding task. My “emotional” impression of the Corolla test drive: 1. Boring, even cry. But the “classic” design 2. Clear and obedient 3. what upset me most... is that the handle (which is above the door) is always somewhere near the temple... and very close. An attempt to push the seat into the floor did not bring any visible relief. As they say, to whom is the butt, to whom is the butt, and to whom is pork cartilage. Take what you like.

Thanked by: 1 User:

I also think the three-ruble note is much better than the Corolla Corolla on the outside, it’s absolutely terrible, but on the inside I really liked it. But I would definitely lean towards the Mazda, somehow it’s more interesting...

Thanked by: 1 User:

The design of the new Corolla is better than the old one, but it turned out to be something between the old and new Camry, which is somehow not very good (you can immediately recognize the old one: this Corolla is a horror on the road). By configuration. Well, I don’t want a robot, but there’s simply no rich set of mechanics. Among the objective disadvantages of the Corolla are expensive maintenance and theftability.

I like it, but I wouldn’t buy it for myself.) It’s funny to read about cheap plastic.) Ours is supposedly an order of magnitude more expensive.) The new car has dimensions, damn it, like the “old” Avensis... cool. If the chassis was left the same, then it’s a cool car for a leisurely drive. The robot confuses me. For this money, the robot should clearly be a brake.) In winter it won’t be comme il faut IMHO.
