Toyota punk mobile at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show

This is worth seeing: the most eccentric premieres of the Tokyo Motor Show

The 2017 Tokyo Motor Show surprised us with some truly unique concept designs from renowned manufacturers. Let's look at the most eccentric premieres that are worth paying attention to.

Flesby by Toyoda Gosei

The Japanese manufacturer presented the compact Flesby concept car, the main distinguishing feature of which is the exterior coating of the body with rubber.

Why is this necessary? Representatives from Toyoda Gosei claim that this significantly increases driver safety in the event of an accident. By the way, this car is single-seater. What else deserves attention? LED lights whose light passes through rubber.

Thanks to them, the driver has the opportunity to transmit messages to other road users.

Smart Vision EQ ForTwo from Mercedes

The famous German concern demonstrated its new concept car. Smart Vision EQ ForTwo also has a display that allows you to communicate with pedestrians. It is planned that the new product will be used as a robotic taxi, and a greeting for passengers will appear on the screen installed in front.

Yamaha Cross Hub

Yamaha also presented a rather interesting development – the Cross Hub concept truck. Representatives of the company described the car as completely corresponding to the lifestyle of active people who prefer to relax outside the city.

Also at the Tokyo Motor Show, one could see another incredibly impressive development of the company - the MWC-4 two-seater car. This vehicle has two wheels in the front and one in the back.

Concept-i from Toyota

An incredible future awaits us, judging by the high-tech innovations presented at the Tokyo Motor Show.

For example, Toyota's Concept-i series cars use artificial intelligence to interact with the driver and anticipate what he needs.

You can control such a machine manually, or you can completely switch it to autopilot. The car shown in the photo below was shown to the world in January 2017.

Another car from the Concept-i series was designed specifically for those people who have to use wheelchairs.

The third conceptual development of Toyota is Concept-i Walk. This vehicle allows you to move on sidewalks or near tourist attractions. Interestingly, it can be controlled manually, but can automatically switch to obstacle avoidance mode if necessary.

Toyota also showed a prototype of the Sora concept bass...

…and another impressive development – the Fine Comfort Ride concert.

In addition, the TJ Cruiser, an SUV concept, was also presented. The crossover is reminiscent of a minivan in its spaciousness, but its design is exactly like an SUV. The main distinguishing feature of the new product is a special body coating that is scratch-resistant.

Auto Body is another development from Toyota. This is a two-seater electric car, which, according to the manufacturer, is ideal for car sharing.

NeuV from Honda

Honda offers motorists an electric car for the city, the peculiarity of which is its intelligent control system. The car monitors your driving style and gives recommendations while driving.

FD-SI from Isuzu

This futuristic van shows what trucking will look like in the near future.

E-Survivor from Suzuki

The main photo shows E-Survivor from Suzuki. This is a battery-electric SUV that has amazing autonomy.

Amazing student project

However, not only well-known automakers presented their creations at the Tokyo Motor Show. Students from the Higher School of Technology and IT developed their own electric car, which they called Collapse. This technological innovation also made it onto our list of noteworthy concept cars.

17 main new products of the Tokyo motor show:

“Beyond the engine” – this is the motto that launched the 45th Tokyo Motor Show. And, as before, he pays the closest attention to the technologies of the future. Some concepts look like they're straight out of movies. With the exception of the classic Toyota Century sedan, but that's a completely different story.

Mitsubishi has returned the legendary name Evolution, but now it is not a sports sedan with an advanced all-wheel drive system and a turbo engine, but an electric crossover.

The e-Evolution concept has one electric motor at the front and two more on the rear axle - this allows you to flexibly change the traction vector.

So far, the crossover with a sporty silhouette is far from mass production: in the cabin there is a steering wheel instead of a steering wheel, and there are no handles on the doors. Touch controls and virtual instruments are no longer surprising.

The IMx electric crossover with an appearance in the style of the new Leaf is built on a completely new platform that allows you to install an independent suspension and a second motor at the rear. The concept's output is a total of 435 hp.

and 700 Nm, and the charge of the flat battery under the floor is enough for 600 kilometers. When the advanced autopilot is activated, the steering wheel is retracted into the front panel, and the information is displayed on a narrow translucent display that extends onto the doors.

The crossover can also sing, warning pedestrians.

Another unusual name at the Toyota stand is Tj Cruiser (an abbreviation for toolbox and joy). The boxy SUV really does look like a box.

There are plenty of lugs and tie-down loops throughout the cabin, and the backrests of the seats are made from the same hard material as the floor. With a short length of 4300 mm, the Tj Cruiser has a fairly spacious interior.

And the hood, roof and fenders are protected from scratches by a special coating.

Suzuki's future SUV concept retains its frame design. And the large display at the front shows old-fashioned round headlights and a radiator grille with characteristic vertical slits.

The doors are made transparent, and the car has one electric motor in each wheel.

Suzuki e-Survivor hints at a new generation of the Jimny SUV, which will also be on frame, although it is unlikely to have such a futuristic appearance.

The Yamaha Cross Hub pickup truck has a wood floor and cargo compartment floor in the style of a yacht deck. The steering wheel is located in the center, and passengers sit on either side of the driver and another one in the back. This made it possible to round the rear wall of the cabin so that a couple of cross-country motorcycles could fit in the back of a small pickup truck, although one of them was for children.

The new generation of the Crown sedan is perhaps the most important new product at the Tokyo Motor Show. The car is shown in concept status, but it is quite ready for mass production.

Crown was created on the new global TNGA platform, but retained the dimensions of its predecessor, although the wheelbase has grown. Windows appeared in the rear pillars for the first time. In addition to the turbo-four (235 hp.

), the sedan will receive a V6 engine from the Lexus LS and a new hybrid powertrain similar to the Lexus LC 500h coupe.

Century is the most conservative and luxurious Japanese car. In half a century of production, this is only the third generation of the sedan. It retains its prim appearance, but the headlights are LED and the old-fashioned velor interior features active noise cancellation. Instead of a V12 engine, there is a hybrid power plant from the Lexus LS 600h.

Lexus plans to teach its cars to drive autonomously by 2020, but in the meantime, the Tokyo LS+ concept is equipped with the Highway Teammate driverless system. He can accelerate, brake, overtake and change lanes without driver assistance. Updates are downloaded to the car via the Internet. Lexus promises that Highway Teammate will be noticeably superior to all existing autonomous driving systems.

The Mazda Kai concept shows what the next three-ruble car will look like. It features the familiar Kodo styling, and the rear resembles the rotary RX Vision concept. The curved rear door window gives the hatchback the features of a sports coupe. The production car, which is promised to be shown in two years, will receive economical Skyactiv-X engines with compression ignition and a drive supercharger.

Another new Mazda product is the four-door Vision Coupe. Designer Ikuo Maeda calls his brainchild the most elegant Mazda in the company's history and claims that he was guided by the 1969 Mazda Luce Rotary Coupe. The Vision Coupe is unlikely to make it into a production car, but its minimalist design will influence the look of future Mazda models.

Subaru in Tokyo hinted at the upcoming WRX sedan. Interestingly, under the name Viziv, the Japanese manufacturer showed prototypes of crossovers. Subaru actively uses carbon fiber - the body kit and roof panel are made from it. There is no information about the interior and technical content, but it is already clear that the WRX will receive a boxer engine, “symmetrical” all-wheel drive, and the EyeSight system.

Targa HV is presented in Tokyo under the GR sub-brand - derived from the motorsport division Gazoo Racing. The car is based on the GT86 and is equipped with a hybrid powertrain.

The most unusual detail of the concept is the manual lever in combination with a push-button automatic transmission, like on an Aston Martin.

With it you can change gears manually, and under the hinged cover on the knob there is a button to start the engine.

Daihatsu, a specialist in compact cars and kei cars, brought a whole bunch of concepts to Tokyo. The most interesting is the Campagno four-door coupe, whose retro appearance brings to mind the cars of the same name from the 1960s. The salon, on the contrary, is the most modern. Under the hood is either a liter turbo engine or a hybrid power plant.

Honda seamlessly marries retro and electric. After the Urban EV electric hatchback with a design in the style of the 1980s, shown in Frankfurt, she brought a sports coupe to Tokyo on the same base. The concept is the size of a Mazda MX-5 and has the long hood of a classic sports car. Perhaps it will go into production, but only after the Urban EV goes into production.

The design of the Yamaha MWC-4 quadricycle was influenced not only by motorcycles, but also by the musical instruments for which the Japanese company is known. This is a kind of response to the Renault Twizy and Toyota i-TRIL. The MWC-4 has a motorcycle handlebar and it also rolls like a motorcycle, that is, inward when turning. There are two electric motors on the rear axle, and the energy for them is generated by a gasoline unit that is not connected to the wheels.

Mitsubishi Electric showed its concept car of the future. It is not so easy to recognize the car in the outline of the Emirai 4, but the most interesting thing is inside it.

It was created to demonstrate the promising developments of the Japanese concern for the automotive industry. For example, a projection display with augmented reality elements.

Or a multimedia touchscreen with a control puck that can be moved across its entire surface.

The most unusual premiere in Tokyo is the Flesby II rubber car. This pedestrian-friendly mode of transport was developed by auto component manufacturer Toyoda Gosei.

Panels made from special “electric rubber” are capable of changing shape under the influence of electrical impulses.

The material conducts light and this made it possible to hide LEDs under the panels, which display various patterns and symbols on the body.

Futuristic cars at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show

The Tokyo Motor Show has been taking place since 1954. This year, more than 160 companies from 11 countries are participating, presenting more than 400 cars. From October 28, the car show is open to specialists and the press, and from October 30 to November 8, the doors will be open to all visitors.

1

The theme of the 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015 was “Technology and Fantasy”.

2

We'll start with an unusual concept car that Honda brought to the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. This car, according to the creators, is capable of “providing people with new opportunities for freedom of movement.”

The car is designed to carry two people in a semi-standing position: this is done so that passengers are approximately at the same level as pedestrians. And this speaks to the main purpose of Wander Stand - tourist walks and trips through park areas. But who said that you can’t go to the grocery store with it?

And, most importantly, he knows how to drive diagonally. Coupled with its miniature dimensions, this quality would make the Wander Stand indispensable in Moscow traffic jams.

3

Another product from Honda is the Wander Walker. This is a high-tech scooter with wooden trim, leather-covered handles and a small multimedia system. The front wheels can be turned at extreme angles, giving the concept excellent maneuverability. (Photo by Honda Motor Company):

4

sofa car at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015, Japan. Green soft fabric inserts around the perimeter of the body are nothing more than external airbags.

Of course, the cars of the future are unlikely to look like an ottoman, but there is no doubt that this technology will save more than one thousand lives of pedestrians. (Photo by Yuya Shino | Reuters):

Toyota's COMS Connect urban electric vehicle prototype .

The concept car was developed by anime artist, director and screenwriter Shoji Kawamori. The car's electric motors are integrated into the wheels of the prototype.

5

Connect has three cabin transformation options: Personal, designed for one person, Delivery, which provides the ability to transport cargo, and Tandem, which, when activated, can accommodate two people in the COMS cabin. (Photo by Kazuhiro Nogi):

6

Nissan presented its idea of the future - the IDS Concept . According to the developers, the car will receive an all-electric power plant powered by a battery pack with a capacity of 60 kWh. The body of the IDS Concept is made entirely of carbon fiber. (Photo by Thomas Peter | Reuters):

7

The concept car is capable of moving in two modes - manual and autopilot. In the first case, the steering wheel and instrument panel extend from the front panel, and the four seats unfold strictly in the direction of travel.

8

The machine is equipped with numerous sensors, including cameras, radars and laser scanners. They constantly assess the surrounding environment, assisting the driver in manual driving mode and ensuring the functionality of the autopilot.

9

Prepared specifically for the Tokyo Motor Show, as reflected in its name, Vision Tokyo is Mercedes' vision of that stage of our future when a person will get rid of the need to sit behind the wheel. (Photo by Toru Hanai | Reuters):

10

Hiding behind the swift forms of the minivan, the interior is completely focused on passengers. Everything in this car suggests that the driving process is by no means the most important thing, and a person should mind his own business while artificial intelligence carefully takes him to his destination.

There are no separate rows of seats - the sofa borders the salon in a circle. And a huge screen spans the entire width of the side-opening door, from which you can control the car with gestures. Of course, it is unlikely that we will see such a car on the roads in the future.

However, almost all leaders of the global automobile industry are working on the creation of unmanned vehicles.

11

Another futuristic Mercedes is the F 015 Luxury in Motion . The unmanned mode is the main one here, the four inhabitants sit facing each other in comfortable sun loungers. Passengers have access to a wide range of electronic communications and entertainment. Well, the usual manned mode is only auxiliary. (Photo by Toru Hanai | Reuters):

12

The missing B-pillars provide easy access to the spacious interior, with doors opening at a 90-degree angle and seats automatically rotating outward to 30 degrees.

A total of six touch screens are located in the cabin, forming a digital living room (including a movable display table in the center of the cabin and a monitor between the rear seats). Engineers see F 015 as a human partner and assistant.

The car scans the situation using radars, stereo cameras and ultrasonic sensors and makes decisions in certain situations.

13

The Germans claim that their brainchild can be programmed to search for a parking space or send it empty to a certain point in the city to pick up someone.

14

Another prototype from Nissan is Teatro for Dayz , which focuses on information technology. (Photo by Kazuhiro Nogi):

15

According to the Japanese idea, the entire interior of the concept is a large touch screen (front panel, doors and even parts of the seats). True, in this show car such technology is only an imitation, and the images are simply projected onto smooth surfaces. (Photo by Takashi Aoyama):

16

According to the authors, users will be able to change the appearance of the interior, depending on their mood or time of day, and also slightly the appearance of the car: there are also screens outside that can show useful information.

17

Hydrogen FCV Plus vehicle . In general, ecology and new types of energy became the main fashion trends at the opening of the 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015.

This is a battery or power station on wheels.

The FCV Plus vehicle is capable of generating excess energy and “giving” it to service a residential building or “sharing” electricity with the area’s power grid. (Photo by Yuya Shino | Reuters):

18

The concept car looks either like a single space shuttle from Star Trek or like a fancy mini-submarine. The clean fuel tank is installed behind the rear seats, and the car also has a rather interesting powertrain: the concept car has four engines - one for each wheel. (Photo by Kazuhiro Nogi):

19

Honda showed a new production car powered by hydrogen fuel cells - the Clarity Fuel Cell . The output of the power plant of the hydrogen Honda Clarity FCV sedan, which produces energy as a result of a chemical reaction between oxygen and hydrogen, is 177 “horses”. The declared range with a full tank is about 700 km.

It only takes three minutes to refuel a car with hydrogen. Inside the hydrogen car you can see a new generation infotainment system and leather trim. In the Japanese market, sales of the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell hydrogen sedan will begin before the end of this year. The innovative Japanese product will arrive on the European market in 2016.

20

Nissan 2020 Vision Gran Turismo . Usually you start racing on a game console and choose the car you like from among those that exist in reality. With this car it's the opposite. Vision GT migrated into reality from the racing simulator Gran Turismo 6. (Photo by Kazuhiro Nogi):

21

Judging by the aggressive appearance of the car, similar to a combat fighter, the car's performance promises to be impressive. (Photo by Kazuhiro Nogi):

Hybrid car and motorcycle Honda Project 2&4 . The company claims that the device is designed to generate an incredible riding experience, combining the most exciting moments of riding a motorcycle and in a car. “This is a challenge for future mobility,” say the Japanese. 25

“A revolutionary three-wheeler that corners like a sportbike, with enhanced stability and unprecedented acceleration.” This is what Honda says about its Neowing tricycle. (Photo by Thomas Peter | Reuters):

26

Minivan of the future from Suzuki Suzuki Air Triser . It is intended to demonstrate the possibilities of transforming the interior of cars of this class. (Photo by Thomas Peter | Reuters):

27

Yamaha Motor Corporation is known for producing motorcycles, but what can the Japanese brand do if it decides to compete with Suzuki and Honda in the automotive field? And here's what - a 2-seater concept sports car Yamaha Sports Ride . The two-seater model, Yamaha says, offers a rider-machine relationship similar to a motorcycle.

28

Subaru VIZIV . It allows you to get an idea of what youth Subaru crossovers might look like in the future.

The car received a dynamic appearance, a panoramic roof, as well as bright orange inserts in the wheels, exterior mirrors, bumpers and interior elements.

This SUV can also automatically brake in front of pedestrians, cars and other obstacles. A special door opening system provides a wide opening for access to the interior.

29

The beautiful Kikai is a concept from Toyota. The Kikai's design is a quirky mix of desert buggy and old-school hot rod, with allusions to the pioneers of the automobile era. In fact, the body of this car is a three-seater cabin for a driver and two passengers, and everything else is on display.

The elements of the front and rear suspension are not covered by the wings, the wheels are moved outside the body, and the chrome-plated engine pipes can be seen from the rear. The Kikai doesn't bring any safety innovations, it can't drive itself, and it needs to be fueled with gasoline, not hydrogen.

The only message that Toyota wanted to convey through this car: “The car is beautiful, it should be admired.”
