How to make angel eyes with your own hands and install them in car headlights
“Angel Eyes” is a popular tuning that leaves few people indifferent. The spectacular appearance of the optics significantly transforms the car. At the same time, it is not necessary to spend a lot of money: the cost of materials is low, and everyone can do everything with their own hands. Especially with our instructions. Avoid haste, and very soon your headlights will shine in a new way.
Why do we need such headlights and how to choose them
The main role of “angel eyes” is aesthetic. A car with upgraded headlights attracts attention, especially at night. There is also a practical component: your car will become more visible to other road users.
According to the type of design, there are two types of “eyes”:
- LED or light-emitting diodes - work normally at sub-zero temperatures, have a long service life and, if connected correctly, rarely fail. Ready-made kits are expensive, but you can make them yourself and save several times. You can create “eyes” using plexiglass, LED strip or individual LEDs. The first option is the most accessible and least labor-intensive. We will look at this in our guide;
- CCFL or neon - they shine more evenly (there is heated gas inside the tube), but less brightly. They do not like frost and reach maximum brightness only after 2–3 minutes. To work, you need ignition units, which are fragility. The main advantage is the low price of ready-made kits.
The installation of “angel eyes” literally transformed the Lada Priora
Can I use red lenses?
Technically, the backlight can be any color, but don't choose blue and red. Traffic police officers regard the use of such colors in optics as an imitation of “flashing lights”, and will definitely want to talk to you about this.
In extreme cases, they may even take the car to the impound lot. They react calmly to white, yellow or orange “angel eyes” (in most cases).
Multi-colored lights are often considered by traffic police officers as a challenge and immediately cause an appropriate reaction.
What are the penalties for violation?
For those who like to argue, here are excerpts from the traffic rules.
For those who are slow-witted, sanctions are provided in the form of fines:
- for citizens - 2.5 thousand rubles;
- for officials - from 15 to 20 thousand rubles;
- for legal entities - from 400 to 500 thousand rubles.
In addition, unauthorized devices and devices are confiscated. The violator also faces a ban on the operation of the vehicle with the removal of the seal.
Traffic police inspectors will probably issue a fine for such tuning.
Will angel eyes replace daytime running lights?
The question of whether it is possible to drive with “angel eyes” instead of DRLs was actively discussed several years ago on all thematic forums. Opinions varied, but most drivers were inclined to believe that “eyes” do not replace running lights. Although in practice, traffic police inspectors almost never pay attention to cars tuned in this way.
Legality of using "glow rings" instead of DRLs
The answer is also mixed regarding the use of “glow rings” instead of daytime running lights. DRLs must be a separate device, so you cannot use dimensions instead of them (clause 19.5 of the traffic rules). “Angel eyes” are located inside the headlight and act as dimensions. In practice, if the brightness of the modernized dimensions is good, then the police will not fine you for them, but it depends on your luck.
Are Angel Eyes Daytime Running Lights? Traffic police inspectors are sure that no
How to make good “eyes” with your own hands: tools and materials
Tools required for work:
- an industrial hair dryer - you can also cope without it, but it will be much more difficult;
- pliers;
- flat screwdriver;
- soldering iron - you can use twisted ones, but such a connection will be unreliable;
- electric drill;
- thin metal file;
- gloves;
- tin can or other round shape.
Materials used:
- 4 LEDs at 3.5 volts;
- 4 resistances (resistors) at 220 Ohms;
- insulating tape;
- 2 plastic plexiglass tubes;
- sealant for fastening the headlight glass;
- two-component epoxy adhesive.
Step-by-step instructions for making “angel eyes” for cars
First of all, you need to remove the headlight and dismantle the glass. To do this, heat the edge of the headlight glass with an industrial hair dryer to warm up the factory sealant.
As an alternative method, you can put the headlight in the oven for 10–15 minutes at a temperature of 60–80 degrees. Then carefully pry the glass along the seam with a flat-head screwdriver until it begins to separate from the headlight.
Most likely, you will have to make some efforts, but without “fanaticism” (the glass may break off or burst).
Preheat the sealant and be careful - the glass may break off when removed from the headlight.
The next step is to measure the exact diameter of the required ring and select the appropriate shape. A tin can, bottle, cup or other round object is suitable for this. Just keep in mind that the plastic will have to be very hot for it to begin to bend, so use items that are resistant to high temperatures.

Use pliers and gloves to avoid heat burns
Heat the plastic with a heat gun or in the oven. Please note that the melting point of organic glass is 160 degrees, do not exceed it. Then use pliers to wrap it around the can. Do not let go for 2-3 minutes so that the plastic cools and takes shape.
Now cut off the excess ends and drill holes according to the size of the LED along the ends of the tube.
Drill a hole in each end of the tube
It's time to prepare the LEDs themselves. Connect their positive legs to resistors. As a last resort, you can do without a soldering iron by simply twisting the parts together and clamping them with pliers. But over time, the wire will become disconnected due to constant vibration, and then you will have to disassemble the headlight again.
Connect resistors to the positive terminal of the LED
Connect the negative legs together and further extend them with a two-core wire. Calculate the length so that you can connect to the contacts of the dimensions.
Solder together two negatives and an extension wire
Connect the two negative terminals to the extension wire. Watch the insulation so that the “plus” and “minus” do not connect. It's time to check the functionality of the design. The easiest way to do this is with a 9-volt battery. This can be done simply by connecting the “positive” and “negative” wires to the corresponding battery contacts. If everything is in order, then you can proceed to assembly.
Make sure all connections are secure
Finally insulate all contacts with electrical tape and insert the LEDs into the previously prepared holes at the ends of the tubes. Secure them in place with glue.
Insulate all contacts and connect the LEDs to the ring
For a more dramatic look, make notches on the back of the ring.
Photo gallery: installing LED angel eyes
To apply, use a drill with an attachment or a dremel. Check the insulation and strength of the connection. You can check the functionality by connecting to a battery.
Now place the finished rings in place.
If adjustment is not required, then connect the contacts to the size wires and finally glue the ring. Use a two-part epoxy glue or something special for plastic.
The main criterion is excellent adhesion strength so that the part does not fall off later due to constant vibration during movement.
Observe polarity when connecting
Avoid getting excess adhesive on the reflector. You can use small pieces of double-sided tape as an alternative method of fastening. But for good adhesion you need expensive adhesive tape, and its white parts will be visible when illuminated (depending on the design of the headlight).
We install the “angel eyes” in place
The last step is gluing the glass and installing the headlight in its intended place . Apply a moderate coat of sealant around the perimeter of the headlight and attach the glass.
Apply new sealant to the bonded area
Use clamps or other available tools to secure the glass in place. It should fit tightly and dry for about a day (see instructions for the sealant).
Drying time of the sealant is at least 24 hours

How to connect a voltage stabilizer (optional)
In the electrical on-board network of the car, the voltage “walks” from 12 to 16 volts. And LEDs do not tolerate such changes well.
We soldered a resistor to each LED to regulate the voltage. But for more reliable protection you need a special stabilizer.
It’s easier to buy a ready-made version and arrange it into a connection between the “angel eyes” and the on-board network of the car.
Factory version of the voltage stabilizer
If you are an “advanced” electrician, you can solder a simple stabilizer yourself. The L7812CV chip is used as a basis. See the photo below for the connection procedure.
The connection diagram is quite simple
According to this scheme, you need to connect the negative contact of the LED to the ground of the car, and the positive contact to the output of the stabilizer.
Video: connecting a voltage stabilizer for LEDs
The procedure for making and installing “angel eyes” is not easy. Before starting work, evaluate your abilities and capabilities to avoid possible additional costs. Consider whether your actions are legal and what consequences they may lead to. Neatness and cleanliness are required for successful completion of optics tuning. But everyone will notice your efforts.

“Angel eyes” for a car with your own hands
Today, many people like to tune their vehicles, regardless of whether they are imported or domestic. The most popular and easiest to implement are “angel eyes”.
Eyes on the car
This type of headlight tuning can be done by anyone for any car. This article will tell you how to make angel eyes with your own hands and what they are.
Decoration Features
Today, the simplest and most effective way to modify the exterior of a car is the so-called. "angel eyes" This tuning consists of luminous rings installed on the headlights.
These rings are installed on the front optics of the car. For the first time, such a unique solution appeared on BMW products.
After some time, luminous rings for headlights began to be sold as a separate vehicle upgrade.
Note! Today, “Angel Eyes” can be either purchased in a store or made with your own hands. At the same time, their production is quite simple and many car enthusiasts prefer the second option for their car.
"Angelic" car tuning
It is worth noting that purchased angel eyes for a car are made from special neon tubes. They are bent and installed on the headlights. The installation also uses an ignition unit. After installing this optical system on the headlights, the light turns out more pleasant and bright.
Separately, it is worth noting that some drivers use such tuning as daytime running lights or dimensions. Today, such car decoration is very popular and is very common.
This is due to the fact that they can be installed on the headlights of a wide variety of car models (both domestic and foreign).
For different car models, this type of tuning may differ in basic parameters:
- dimensions;
- glow color;
- ring diameter.
If everything is done right, you will get an exclusive car.
Installation option
Purchased item
As already mentioned, today this kind of tuning can be obtained as follows:
- buy in the store. But for domestic cars this is not the best solution, and it is not always possible to select rings of the required diameter;
- make homemade angel eyes. This option is more preferable in terms of saving money and time that will have to be spent searching for rings for headlights of the required diameter.
To the question “how to make angel eyes?” There are two answers that are not very different in terms of implementation:
- assembly of an optical system from a ring (LED strip);
- making a lighting system using a transparent tube.
Once you have decided on such tuning, you should find out what such an optical system will be made of. But remember that you will definitely need an ignition unit through which you can connect a homemade lighting device.
What we are preparing material
The most important question that arises in the mind of a car enthusiast is what kind of relatively expensive type of tuning for a car can be made from. Today, LED angel eyes are in favor, so in this article we will look at this particular option, especially since connecting them using an ignition unit can be as easy as purchasing products.
So, to make angel eyes with your own hands, you will need:
- plastic transparent sticks. Here you can use a curtain leash for blinds;
- LEDs or LED strip;
- resistors;
- ignition unit;
- jar. Its diameter should correspond to the dimensions of the car headlights;
- 9 volt battery.
In addition to the above materials, in order to make such a backlight and connect it correctly using the ignition unit, you also need the following tools:
- file;
- drill with disk attachment and 5 mm drill or needle file;
- pliers;
- construction hairdryer It can be replaced with a conventional oven.
Once you have made sure that you have everything you need for the job, you can begin assembly.
We work, we are not lazy
In order to install it on the headlights of your car, the backlight must be mounted according to the following scheme:
Rounding the can
- First you need to give the transparent stick the shape of a ring. To do this, the rod should be heated until its plasticity increases until it deforms;
- You can heat the sticks in the oven or using a hair dryer. It is considered more correct to use a hair dryer;
- Next, we wrap the heated rod around the can using pliers. We start bending the can from the middle of the rod, bringing its ends towards each other;
- let the rod harden and saw off its ends;
- Next, we assemble the LEDs with a resistor;
- You can check the quality of the assembly using a battery;
- then we isolate and grind the contacts being processed;
- carefully and smoothly grind the ends of the stick;
- after that we apply serifs to the rod. We take the pitch for them within 2-2.5 mm. At the same time, do not forget to retreat 1-1.5 cm from the edges;
Notch on a stick
Built-in diode
- for evenness, you can use a plastic clamp;
- After this, the rod must be connected to the LEDs to check the glow. An ignition unit must be used for these purposes. This will allow you to see how the homemade device will glow in the final result;
- to avoid a drop in the brightness of the glow towards the middle, the notches should gradually deepen towards the middle of the rod;
- solder the LEDs in series. This will balance the current flowing through them;
- after that, at the ends of the resulting ring we drill a hole up to 7 mm long and 5 mm in diameter. We insert LEDs into it;
- We wrap the ends of the transparent stick with foil.
Finished ring
Making angel eyes using this pattern is quite simple and easy. After this, all you have to do is install everything correctly on the headlights by connecting the homemade product through the ignition unit.
We attach to the headlights
Installing angel eyes is no less important than assembling them. Here you need to do the following manipulations:
- we disassemble the headlight housing and take out the glass from it;
Ring installation
- We clean the reflector from dirt. Use cotton swabs and cleaning chemicals for this;
- during processing, avoid touching the surface of the reflector with your hands;
- We apply sealant to the glass and install a homemade luminous ring on it, with the notches facing outward;
- after that we lay the wires;
- Apply silicone between the headlight itself and the protective glass, carefully filling all the pores;
- It takes at least half an hour for the silicone to dry.
Finished headlight
At the end, all you have to do is test the operation of the headlights with the new LED installation. To do this, connect all wires to a power source. Here you need to disconnect the plug that connects the turn signals. This is where the “eyes” should be connected.
Now your car has a beautiful tuning. Moreover, such a homemade device is not only beautiful, but also practical. If all elements of the lighting fixture are assembled correctly, it will serve you faithfully for many years, providing bright light from the headlights.

How to make angel eyes for a car yourself
Most drivers are skeptical about car tuning. It doesn’t matter whether we are talking about external or internal changes. And partly they can be understood, because in the car’s interior there is enough everything for comfortable movement.
In terms of technical characteristics, the car completely suits them, and most importantly, the combination of dynamics and fuel consumption is ideal in terms of price-quality ratio. Some are put off by the high cost of tuning elements, some have had bad experiences in the past.
Conversations about whether it is worth tuning a car or not will never stop, because ardent supporters of changing the car will never understand their opponents, who insist that all this is just a waste of time, effort and a mockery of the car.
Despite all of the above, few people remain indifferent to such a tuning element as LED angel eyes. After this phrase, the name of the legendary BMW brand immediately comes to mind, which at the beginning of the 21st century, with its ingenious solution, produced unusual, exciting headlight optics in the form of four rings.
Is it worth installing angel eyes?
The owners of the legendary Bavarians have their own point of view on this issue. Many people believe that angel eyes should only be on BMW cars.
Indeed, this statement makes sense not only because it was this concern that came up with this know-how, but also because not all cars will benefit from such changes from an aesthetic point of view.
It’s not enough to just buy or make angel eyes with your own hands; you also need to take into account whether they will look beautiful, and whether they will be appropriate on another make of car.
Quite often you can see in the eyes of passers-by and other drivers not admiration after they see this invention of the BMW company, but a simple smile, and sometimes even a grin. In any tuning, you need to determine for yourself the line that is best not to cross.
In this matter, we can draw an analogy with plastic surgery for a person: removing a flaw to improve appearance is one thing, but constant experiments on appearance will not lead to anything good. It’s the same with cars; you should know moderation in everything. But, if the owner is absolutely sure that these changes in optics will suit his car perfectly, then, naturally, no one has the right to dissuade him.
How to choose the right option
Today, the car owner can choose the color, diameter, width and brightness of the eyes. Some manufacturers even offer rings with changing colors and even flickering in the form of strobe lights. If we approach the classic version, then we need to make four rings - two for each headlight.
In this case, it is necessary to take into account the width of the headlight itself, because if the car is small, then, accordingly, the headlights will be quite narrow. You need to understand that if two small rings in the headlights look frivolous, you will have to opt for one ring, but of a larger diameter.
Next you need to decide on the color of the glow. The optimal choice would be between yellow and white rings.
Also, this type of headlights can be used as daytime running lights, but from the point of view of the rational use of angel eyes in the form of running lights, the yellow color will be better visible during daylight hours, which means it will be safer. Anyone can tune their optics.
You shouldn’t spend money on buying in a store, but do everything yourself. At the same time, at home, the production costs will be much lower, and the resulting result will be more pleasing, because what you do with your own hands is more appreciated. What do white, blue, yellow and red angel eyes look like:
Tools
In order to do this work at home, you will need the following tools:
- Thermoplastic transparent plastic, so-called organic glass. This is a special type of plastic that can change its shape under the influence of temperature. After heating the thermoplastic tube, it can easily be given the desired shape, in this case, in the form of a circle. The best method for heating is considered to be an industrial hair dryer; if you don’t have one, you can use a household oven in the kitchen.
- Can. After the owner has decided on the diameter size for the ring, it is necessary to find a tin can of a similar diameter in order to wrap the heated tubes around it. You won’t be able to make a perfect ring manually; you don’t even have to try.
- LEDs 3.5 volts. It is important to note that each ring requires two diodes. These are the elements due to which the eyes will glow after completion of the work.
- Pliers. They are used to give the required shape to heated plastic.
- Resistors 220 Ohm. An element of an electrical circuit that is designed to supply the required amount of current to operate the LEDs.
- 9 volt battery
- Insulating tape
- Electric drill
- Needle file. A small file, which is used for particularly delicate work, has various attachments. A needle file is also called a needle file.
Manufacturing process
- First you need to choose the optimal heating temperature for the plastic tube. If the temperature is insufficient, the tube may break when bent; if it is overheated, it may lose its shape altogether, i.e. melt. Don't be upset if you don't succeed in choosing the right temperature the first time. For such a situation, you need to have several spare plastic elements.
- After the ideal temperature is selected, this tube is shaped using pliers. To help, you will need a jar with the required diameter in order to make a ring. Next, you need to let the plastic ring take a solid shape, i.e. do not touch it for five to ten minutes. Then remove the resulting form from the jar.
- The next stage is connecting soldering of the resistor and LED. To implement this process you need a soldering iron. It must be remembered that one ring requires two LEDs. They should be soldered one at a time. To check the correct connection, use a 9 Volt battery. If no reaction occurs, then the soldering went wrong. After the first LED is correctly soldered to the resistor, the second LED should be soldered to it, after which both LEDs are fastened together.
- Once the connection between the resistor and LEDs works fine, you can move on to the insulation step. To do this, you need to wrap the LED and resistor with electrical tape. Everything needs to be done carefully, not abruptly.
The result is rings that burn evenly in a circle using diodes. But to give the effect of angel eyes you will need to make notches on them.
DIY angel eyes, video:
Notching process
To apply notches, you need a needle file and a drill. Application stages:
- The rings are being polished and excess material is being removed. The rings should have a perfect shape, without protruding edges.
- Craftsmen advise the initial application of notches not with a drill, but with a knife. After this, you can use a drill and a needle file.
- After that, everything is wrapped with electrical tape.
Final stage
Once you already have the required number of rings on your hands, you can begin to place them in the headlight. This is a very important process, because you can easily damage the headlight when disassembling it. Therefore, under no circumstances should you relax.
After disassembling the headlight, touching the reflector with your hands or chemical solutions is strictly prohibited. This can ruin the part. If you need to clean the reflector, it is recommended to use cotton swabs. Next, a sealant is applied to the glass, to which the angel eyes will be attached.
In this case, the notches made in no case look towards the lamp, they are directed outward.
Silicone is used for final sealing. It is used to process the distance between the headlight and the glass. Then do not continue working for 30-45 minutes in order to allow the sealant to dry. After this time, you can safely turn on the headlights and evaluate the result.
Stylish solution
Tuning car optics for people who don’t want to spend a lot of time, effort and money to modify their car and who are wondering “how to install angel eyes” is almost a win-win. In the evening, such optics can show their best side. The attention of other road users is guaranteed.

DIY angel eyes
To make angel eyes with your own hands, we will need plastic transparent sticks, you can take rods from blinds, just not faceted and not empty inside, a little longer than the circumference of your optics. 4 pieces 45 cm long were enough for me. I also recommend buying 4 glasses for the headlights, heat-resistant sealant, 4 yellow light bulbs, 8 diodes and 4 resistors for 2 Com..
I spent a long time choosing what I could bend the sticks around, I struggled for a long time with selecting a “container” of the appropriate diameter, but I couldn’t find it right away. I was a little upset, sat down to drink coffee and, as always, an idea came to my mind by chance, I took a 200 gram coffee can or as it says nka 125 cups
Next, the transparent plastic needs to be heated. To do this, we will need a metal container into which our “segment” will fit. We put this dish (in my case, it’s a lid from a large frying pan, turned upside down) into the oven and place our piece on it. Turn on the gas.
Next, while the air in the oven is heating, we prepare the 2nd pliers, a chair and the jar itself. Next, we look carefully into the stove at our plastic. we wait for it to begin to bend under its weight, as soon as it barely touches the bottom of the lid, we open the stove and pull it out by one end of the rod with pliers and wrap it around the can using the second pliers. It will look something like this:
Let the plastic cool for a couple of minutes and remove the resulting semi-finished product. We do this procedure 4 times. it will turn out like this:
Then we take a metal file and cut off ONLY the excess so that we get a CIRCLE or a figure that is as similar as possible to it :-). or you can get creative and come up with your own shape of angel eyes. It turns out the following:
After this, we do the above with the remaining rings. then you just need to heat the middle of each ring a little over the gas and align it so that the ends of the ring are opposite each other (just place it on the table) and not higher or lower. Something like this should happen:
Next is the most painstaking part (like Know How). We drill holes in both ends strictly to the diameter of the purchased diodes:
We cut off the legs of the diodes, leaving only 5 MM (!!!) for each where there is a large boss, this is a plus.
then the most difficult thing is to solder the diodes parallel to each other and solder a wire to each of the legs (I recommend taking different colored wires so as not to get confused when connecting). Then, having retreated somewhere 10-15 cm, you need to cut the wire that leads to the plus of the diode (large boss) and solder our resistance there.
The next step is to install diodes in the end holes of our rings. To do this, we take a fixative varnish (any TRANSPARENT nail polish) and drop a drop into each hole (there are two of them). and immediately6 before the varnish dries, we insert our diodes there. We wait 30 minutes for the varnish to dry and take a smoke break. It will turn out like this:
I'll explain why we need varnish. When we drilled the holes, we scratched the surface inside the hole with the drill, which means the light will pass through worse, and the varnish makes our parts seem like a single part, that is, the break and the junction are not so noticeable, which is very important for the new technology. If you enlarge the picture above, you will understand what I was talking about here :-)
We do the same with the rest of the rings:
Next, we take the canvas and at a distance of 1 cm (no more often!!!) we make small notches on our rings (depth 0.5 mm) Like this:
You can try to enable it and see the difference:
Next, we take our headlights and remove the glass. I didn’t succeed peacefully and had to knock out the old glass:
Note: I recommend marking the headlights (low, high) with a marker on the back of the headlight so that you don’t confuse anything later when parking. And also notice how the low and high beam windows look. also so as not to confuse
After removing the glass, debris remains on the surface of the reflector. It needs to be removed. I used cotton swabs for my ears:
I STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND touching the surface of the reflector with your hands, much less wiping it with ALCOHOL-CONTAINING cleaning agents. Otherwise, just get a powerful light like from a flashlight (the surface may darken and become cloudy)
Next, coat the edges of the new glass with sealant:
Next, (carefully!!!), we put our ring in the headlight with the lock facing up (in the place where the diodes are). There, on the headlight, there should be a “notch” there and put the wires. The risks that we cut should be facing the light bulb.
We fill the distances along the edges of the glass and the headlight with the same sealant so that there is no air at all. (For tightness) Leave the headlight for half an hour (see the instructions for the sealant) so that the sealant “sets.”
You can connect it to power and see what you get:
As you can see, it looks quite impressive. and a continuous effect is created!!! rings. there is no pause like before, We wound the diodes there with insulating tape to the rings.
I think I should tell you how I connected this thing. We put the headlights in place and thread our new wires along with those that went to the headlight. We do the same with all the headlights. Now we have all the wires under the hood.
Next is not an obligatory part, since everyone can connect as they want, but I decided to make a cool effect and disconnected the plug of the wires that go to the turns and dimensions (after the alteration, I had the eyes as dimensions!!! And inserted “folders” from the dimensions and turns to the “mother” from turns: that is, 2 in 1:
I used the freed “+” from the dimensions to connect one of the pairs of eyes. We do the same on the other side (where the battery is). I screwed the “cons” (-) under the signal mounts. “Former dimensions have become turns.
I liked the effect. Only a blind person will not notice that the car is turning.
+ to top it all off, my turn/dimension covers are white, so 4 yellow lights came in handy) It’s just that when the eyes and dimensions are on, it’s not nice and is very distracting.
Now when you turn on the turns, 2 blinks!!! light bulbs. And when the lights are turned on, the eyes light up! This is what it looks like during the day:
Like this in the evening:
And here it is at night:
That's all. My friends are delighted and to be honest, I didn’t expect it to turn out so beautifully. Of course, not like the angel eyes on a BMW, but from the front it looks like a predator and not 2106 🙂 for doing it yourself!.

How to do headlight tuning yourself? A very popular way to make optics attractive is to install angel eyes. You can buy angel eyes and not bother, but TAZovods are not those who are looking for easy ways!

Making your car angel eyes yourself
Despite the fact that such a model as the VAZ2106 is already obsolete, there are enthusiasts who tune and transform their appearance. And one of the most common tuning options is the manufacture and installation of angel eyes in the style of BMW headlights. You can either make such an accessory yourself or purchase a ready-made kit.
"Angel eyes" at BMW
Let's look at the most common way to make angel eyes with your own hands. By the way, this option is suitable not only for the VAZ 2106, but also for other cars, both with round headlights and block headlights.
Tuning materials
To work you will need certain materials. First, transparent plastic sticks (blind rods work great). In this case, the sticks should not be hollow or faceted. For the VAZ 2106 you need 4 such sticks, each 45 cm long. Secondly, you will need new glasses for the headlights, 4 yellow light bulbs, heat-resistant sealant, 4 resistances (2 kOhm), and 8 LEDs.
Making angel eyes
Video instructions for making “angel eyes”:
First you need to make even and round rings from the sticks. For VAZ 2106 headlights, you can use a 200 gram can of coffee as a template. To prevent the plastic from breaking, the sticks must first be heated. To do this, you need a container that will fit the entire length of the stick.
A pot or frying pan lid works well. After laying out the workpiece, place it in the oven and heat it up. You can do it even simpler, lower the sticks into boiling water, where they will also begin to melt and soften. Some people use a hair dryer for these purposes.
It depends on your convenience, but the essence is the same, the plastic needs to be heated so that it does not break, but bends.
While the plastic is frying, we prepare a tool for work, namely two pliers, a coffee can and the surface on which we will do everything (a chair or table). The plastic must warm up to such a state that it begins to bend under its own weight.
As soon as the stick has warmed up to the desired state, carefully pull it out of the oven, take it by one end, and wrap it around the jar, holding the second end of the rod with the second pliers. Thus, we repeat the procedure four times.
It is necessary to remove the workpiece from the can after the plastic has cooled and become hard again.
We cut off the excess ends of the stick with a hacksaw. The result should be as even a circle as possible. And its edges should practically touch each other.
To level it, you need to place the workpiece again in the oven on a flat surface and heat it up a little. The plastic will again level out due to heating under its own weight.
Although you can heat the rings locally in the center directly above the burner and align the ring with your hands. We make four blanks in this way.

Electrical part of tuning
After making the blanks, we proceed to the most painstaking part of the procedure. It is necessary to drill a hole at each end of the ring with a width and depth strictly according to the size of the LEDs we purchased. Next, we take the LEDs themselves and cut off their legs, leaving only 5 mm. Don't forget to mark them for polarity.
Where there is a boss, this is a positive contact. After trimming, we solder the LEDs parallel to each other and solder them to each contact of the wiring. It is better to use different colored wires so as not to get confused later when connecting. On the positive wire, at a distance of 15 cm from the diodes, it is necessary to solder a resistance.
Once everything is soldered, we proceed to install the LEDs into the previously drilled holes in the ends of the rings.
To fix the LED inside the ring, it is best to use nail polish (transparent color only) and it is cheap and convenient. In addition, the varnish also serves to smooth out roughness on the walls of the hole resulting from the drill. If this is not done, the luminosity of the entire structure will be worse.
There is no need to coat the entire LED with varnish. Just drop a drop of varnish inside the holes. Then install the LED there and wait about 30 minutes until the varnish dries. We do the same with all four rings.
You can also use dichloroethane for these purposes and the effect is excellent.
Improving the luminosity of angel eyes
Now all that remains is to make notches on top along the entire length of the ring. They should be cut no more than 1 cm apart from each other, although the distance largely depends on the material from which the sticks are made.
There is plastic on which you can cut notches at a distance of 2-3 mm from each other, and the luminosity will only improve. Therefore, here you should start with a centimeter, and if necessary, increase the notches.
The depth of the notches is approximately 0.5 mm.
Connection
Now we need to connect our design and make sure that the LEDs are working and the light is distributed evenly around the ring.
Now it’s the turn of tuning the headlights directly. To install angel eyes, you must remove the glass. For most people, this procedure does not happen peacefully. As a result, the glass is simply knocked out. Don't forget to mark the headlights on the back side, which one is high and which is low.
The headlight reflector must be perfectly clean. To do this, use cotton swabs or swabs to clean the surface. However, you should not use any cleaning powders with abrasive particles or alcohol-based ones. We coat new glass with sealant.
Installation in headlight
We place the rings with LEDs inside the headlight so that the lock is at the top. This is necessary in order to pull the wires into a special notch. If the headlights have holes or niches in other parts, install the structure in such a way as to hide the wires. The ring must be placed with the marks facing the light bulb.
After installation, use sealant to fill the free space along the edge of the headlight between the glass and the reflector. And thus we displace the air from there. After the sealant has dried, you can connect the headlights to the on-board network and install them in their original place.
What's the result?
VAZ with “angel eyes”
Using this method of installing LEDs, we obtain a continuous luminous ring. And if you simply attach the LEDs to the rings using electrical tape, you get a ring with a pause in the middle.
As for the connection, here everyone is free to do as he pleases. The most effective option is to connect the angel eyes in such a way that they turn on along with the side lights.
But at the same time, you should turn off the front marker lamps, since they do not look good together with the eyes. Better yet, connect marker lamps with direction indicators.
For these purposes, we just need yellow lamps.
