The Toyota i-TRIL concept was developed jointly with the French design studio ED² from Nice. According to the manufacturer, this vehicle is a viable alternative to A and B segment cars, other electric cars, public transport and motorcycles.

i-TRIL is aimed at a new type of consumer - a sophisticated, single, active woman between the ages of 30 and 50 with two children and a dynamic lifestyle who lives in a small or medium-sized city.

The 600-kilogram concept, 2,830 mm long and 1,460 mm high, is equipped with an electric motor. The front track width is 1,200 mm, and the rear track is 600 mm. There is a hinge between the cab and the rear axle, allowing the body and front wheels to tilt while the motorized rear wheels always remain perpendicular to the road.

The range of Toyota i-TRIL on one charge is 200 kilometers. The new car has autonomous capabilities, but is designed to provide driving pleasure, especially since it has no pedals and you can wear any type of shoe.

Control is carried out using the left and right controller (the operating principle resembles a computer mouse or joystick).

Even when in autonomous mode, the vehicle informs about the upcoming tilt of the cabin using a light signal and recognizes voice to control the infotainment system.

The i-TRIL interior is designed with a 1+2 seating arrangement, and thanks to the tilting of the cabin, rear passengers can also enjoy the full driving experience. In addition, their legs are given real freedom due to the single seat in front.

Another new product was the Toyota Yaris GRMN hot hatch with a new supercharged 210-horsepower 1.8-liter engine. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. The car also received a modified and strengthened suspension and more powerful brakes.

The “charged” version of the hatchback is offered exclusively in a three-door body with redesigned bumpers, a rear spoiler and diffuser, an impressive central exhaust pipe and 17-inch BBS wheels. Inside, the Yaris GRMN features sports seats, a small sports leather steering wheel from the GT86 and a set of aluminum pedals.

The public premiere of the updated Toyota Yaris 2017 model year took place in Geneva, the online debut of which took place at the beginning of last month. The “hottest” versions of Toyota cars are decorated with a “combat” nameplate in the shape of the letter T. And the first to try on the “red mark” was the Toyota Yaris.

This car has a number of external differences from the “civilian” version - aggressive bumpers, due to which the car has become 20 mm longer, a different radiator grille, 15-inch wheels.

As before, the driver who takes his seat gets the impression that he will have to drive not a car, but a toy. The dashboard is very unique, and the size of the interior is quite “childish”. Everything is at hand in the car, so there are no questions about ergonomics.

We can only complain about the lack of legroom for rear passengers, but there would be even less space if the car were not designed as a minivan. The high seating position allows you to better navigate the space; fortunately, the Yaris of everything.

Significant changes affected the “combat” part. First of all, we note that the T Sport received a one and a half liter engine with an electronic variable valve timing system (VVT-i) with a power of 106 hp.

Having won several awards in its time, this engine has been improved.

Now fuel is injected directly into each cylinder under high pressure through a new slot-shaped nozzle, which is why the power of the unit has increased by 8% with the same fuel consumption.

The manual gearbox has also been modernized. Its row has become more “closer”, which - alas - in no way affected the clarity of the gears (the cable drive, for all its advantages, sometimes suffers from such a drawback).

Naturally, the suspension could not remain the same. Shortened springs have been developed for the T Sport, due to which the car is pressed to the road by as much as 20 mm. Of course, the shock absorber settings have been revised. To top it all off, the front brakes became ventilated, and the rear ones got discs.

How does it all move? Not bad. However, this is to be expected from a car with a curb weight of only 960 kg, under the hood of which 106 “horses” are raging.

As soon as you step on the gas pedal, the Yaris takes off so that it seems as if the asphalt behind is curling up. Even under peak loads, the engine shows almost no strain.

Sometimes you want to hear a sporty roar, but no - it buzzes under the hood like a bumblebee, and that’s it.

The traction control system ensures that the car does not slip in the heat of attack, so you won’t be able to overdo it.

This does not mean that you will always have to “turn” the engine up to six thousand revolutions, at which maximum power develops. The Yaris can be driven with peace of mind.

VVT-i allows you to extract more power from the engine at the bottom and provides high torque at minimum speeds.

Of course, this power unit is far from a diesel engine, but its elasticity allows you not to fuss with changing gears in city traffic.

The brakes also do their job quite well. It’s not surprising, because a truly “charged” car should stop as easily as it accelerates. Otherwise, the imprint of the letter “T”, the one on the radiator trim, may appear on another car.

But the steering doesn’t deserve any special praise. On the T Sport, as on the regular Yaris , there is virtually no reaction force felt. The steering wheel does not want to return to its original position after turning - you constantly have to tighten it. It is strange that this mechanism has not been seriously changed, but has only been adapted to suit the clamped suspension.

However, with such a lively temperament of the car, one can turn a blind eye to such details. The Toyota Yaris T Sport is inviting. And the red capital letter on the body, similar to an order, is “not a simple decoration,” but genuine evidence that this car is not a timid one.

A couple of weeks ago, Toyota claimed that the updated Yaris hatchback would debut at the Geneva Motor Show. However, for some reason, the Japanese decided not to wait for one of the largest automobile exhibitions and presented the modernized car now. In Switzerland, an exclusively top-end sports modification of the Yaris will debut.

Just how important the compact hatchback is for Toyota is clearly demonstrated by the fact that the Yaris is the company's most popular model in the European market.

Last year, dealers were able to sell nearly 194 thousand hatchbacks, which allowed Yaris to take 14th place in the pan-European sales ranking. However, the Japanese did not reach the leader, and it was Renault Clio with a result of 315,115 units sold.

With the updated Yaris, it is also unlikely that it will be possible to take first place in its segment, but it is quite possible to close the gap with European bestsellers.

To achieve this, Toyota designers worked a little on the appearance. It has not changed radically, but it will still be possible to identify the updated Yaris without difficulty. The “beak” hanging over the aggressive radiator grille has become more convex, and the chrome inserts under it have been completely abandoned.

The new front optics with two LED filaments also attract attention. At the rear, the updated Yaris can be identified by a new bumper and redesigned lights. The shape of the latter has become more complex, and the lanterns themselves have become larger.

In combination with the stamping moving from the tailgate to the bumper, the rear of the modernized Yaris began to look much more aggressive.

The main innovation in technical terms is the abandonment of the 1.4-liter turbodiesel engine. It turned out that more than 40% of car buyers do not prefer a diesel-powered version, but a hybrid with a power plant of 100 horsepower. In the city, he needs only 3.1 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.

The 1.3-liter engine, which developed 99 horsepower, was also abandoned. It was replaced by a new 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine, which can independently switch to operation on the Atkinson cycle. But the base engine did not change during the update.

The rear of the hatchback will delight you with beautiful optics with LED filling. At the top we can see a large decorative spoiler of the Toyota Yaris 2017-2018, which is decorated with an LED brake light repeater. The trunk lid is decorated with a chrome insert on the handle, and the bumper is simply large without any unique elements.

The engine uses more than the previous one, but only by 1 liter, and on the highway the figure has not changed.
Next in the lineup is a diesel 8-valve engine with a turbine, which, with a volume of 1.4 liters, produces 90 horses. The turbine allows the model to reach the first hundred in 11 seconds, and the maximum speed has not changed compared to the previous unit. It consumes a little less than 5 liters of diesel fuel, and on the highway it consumes less than 4 liters.
Also in the line there is a 16-valve unit with a volume of 1.5 liters, which produces 106 horsepower. This is a gasoline engine and in terms of dynamics it is slightly worse than the previous one - 11.5 seconds are required to reach the first hundred, the maximum speed has increased to 193 km/h. Consumption is a bit high - 8 liters in the city is a lot and 6.4 on the highway is also not so little.
The last type of engine is a hybrid, it is an electric motor and a 1.5-liter gasoline unit. The Toyota Yaris 2017-2018 units produce a total of 76 forces, there is no point in talking about dynamics, but it’s worth mentioning about consumption - only 3 liters, both in the city and on the highway.

The engines have 3 types of gearboxes in the lineup: a 6-speed manual transmission, an automatic 4-speed gearbox and a CVT. Regardless of choice, the model will have front-wheel drive.

Interior
