How to clean an injector with your own hands

Cleaning the injector - how to do it yourself?

How to clean an injector with your own hands

Cleaning the injector is not the easiest task, which is why not everyone wants to mess with it. Some feel sorry for the time, while others are simply not confident in their abilities. If you still decide to save on the services of a service center, then consider the technology by which such cleaning is carried out.

  • Sheinin: “I speak for myself, anyone can cure prostatitis, take the proven Prost...”

For each car, the manufacturer gives recommendations on the frequency of cleaning the injection mechanism. But, as a rule, these are Europeans or Americans, and they do not take into account the condition of the fuel that we have to fill in the tanks. Therefore, you will have to clean the injector much earlier, and you will have to do this more often than indicated in the accompanying documentation for the car.

  • They will protect the chassis and save you money, increasing ground clearance by 3 cm.

Domestic experienced auto mechanics advise flushing injector nozzles every 10 thousand km. However, it is worth understanding that this is not an axiom. As an owner, you need to listen to your vehicle. You should be wary of the following behavior features of your vehicle:

  • the gas pedal periodically fails;
  • the motor runs erratically;
  • the exhaust level is increased;
  • the smokiness of exhaust gases increases;
  • craving becomes noticeably low;
  • acceleration is more difficult.

To clean the injector, ultrasound and the liquid method are used. The first method is based on the phenomenon of cavitation; this very effectively removes carbon deposits even in the most inaccessible places of the injectors.

It is enough to lower them into a special bath, and many quite powerful micro-explosions generated by ultrasound will clean your parts to a shine.

But it makes sense to purchase such a device only in cases where you do this often, for example, provide relevant services every day.

The liquid method is much cheaper, and therefore more accessible to any motorist. This is what you should resort to if you notice problems with the injector and decide that cleaning is necessary.

In order to wash the injectors yourself, you do not need special expensive equipment. Although the method itself is a little more troublesome than in the case of ultrasonic cleaning.

But if you decide not to turn to specialists for help, let’s figure out how to carry out the operation at home.

The main function of this mechanism is to supply fuel to the pistons, and the efficiency of its operation depends only on the condition of the injector valves.

If the channels and openings have long needed cleaning, they are clogged and overgrown with carbon deposits, then the supply of the combustible mixture will be difficult, or even stop altogether.

This will result in unsatisfactory engine performance, which will affect not only its durability.

If you ignore the fact that it is time to clean the injector, fuel consumption will gradually increase, gradually increasing significantly.

But this is not the only complication that threatens your savings on injector cleaning. If you allow them to become over-contaminated, you will have to replace them very soon, and this is much more expensive.

So the wisest decision to save on this operation would be to do it yourself.

Cleaning the injector is only possible when it is dismantled. Therefore, first we will figure out how to remove it with your own hands. To begin with, a rarefied atmosphere should be created in the fuel line, that is, the pressure should be relieved.

So turn on the engine and open the fuse box. First look at the car's manual and find which one is responsible for the fuel pump.

When the engine is running, turn off this particular fuse.

Now nothing prevents us from disconnecting the hoses (discharge and reverse) and disconnecting the terminals from the injectors. Next, remove the panel that holds the entire set of injectors, and remove the O-ring from each. Everything is ready for work, all that remains is to figure out what is required of us to do the cleaning ourselves.

Since you have decided to wash the injectors yourself, let’s figure out what the essence of the liquid method is and try to implement it.

Conditions must be ensured so that it is possible to open and close the solenoid valve and simultaneously pump liquid into the injector when it is open.

In the closed position, it should be absolutely unable to miss it. Therefore, we collect everything necessary to carry out the washing ourselves.

It is necessary to purchase a carburetor cleaner and a device that could be used to blow this liquid through the nozzles.

For this purpose, a bottle is suitable, which is connected to the hole of the part and the container (tank) into which the product used is pumped.

To control the solenoid valve, connect the injector terminals to the battery, and if you have a pass-through switch, connect it to this circuit in series.

When the chain is assembled, the fluid is charged, and you are ready, you can begin cleaning the injector yourself. When pumping liquid, you need to close the circuit and open it, then the valve will let the liquid through and close its passage alternately.

The switch will greatly simplify this procedure. After passing a little product through the nozzle, you need to leave it for a while to soak.

With the next portion of liquid, the soaked liquid is expelled, and part of the product is again left to soak the next layer of dirt, so cleaning will gradually occur.

All 6 holes and the valve seat should be flushed. And this procedure must be carried out over 2-6 cycles. It depends on when the injector starts working at the proper level.

If the situation in engine operation has not changed even after the most extensive cleaning, then the injectors should be changed, because they do not provide sufficient fuel atomization for efficient operation. As you can see, the work will take longer than ultrasonic cleaning of the injector.

But if you do this operation yourself, the money savings are quite significant.

Do-it-yourself injector cleaning: features of the procedure

The fuel system is one of the most important components of a car's power unit. Experienced car owners know that if it works correctly, the engine will last a long time and fuel consumption will be low.

One of the key elements of the fuel system are nozzles, or, as they are also called, injectors. Over time, the injectors become clogged and stop functioning effectively.

Car enthusiasts often wonder why and why do they need to clean the injector on their car with their own hands? In answering this question, it is necessary to understand what role the nozzle plays and what it is.

Design

An injector or nozzle is a device through which fuel is injected. The main task of the injector is to atomize fuel to form a fuel-air mixture in the combustion chamber. Depending on the method of fuel atomization, injectors can be divided into:

  • mechanical;
  • hydraulic;
  • piezoelectric;
  • electromagnetic.

How do injectors work?

Their principle of operation does not differ much. High pressure fuel enters the top of the injector. Next, passing through the inside of the device, the valve opens and fuel is sprayed.

Accordingly, the more evenly the fuel is sprayed, the better the fuel-air mixture will be.

But during operation, the holes through which spraying occurs become clogged and clogged: contamination makes it difficult to spray fuel correctly, which subsequently leads to problems and malfunctions. That is why it is necessary to clean the injector.

But in service centers it can cost a hefty sum. With some knowledge, you can clean the injectors at home, without resorting to the expensive services of qualified specialists. This article provides information on how to clean the injector with your own hands.

Signs of a clogged injector

To understand when to clean fuel injectors, you need to understand what the distinctive signs and indicators of a clogged injector are.

As a rule, experts recommend cleaning at least once every 30 thousand kilometers.

But it is worth understanding that the condition of each car is individual, and each car owner has a different attitude towards servicing the power unit.

Therefore, it is not always worth adhering to certain regulations, since cleaning the injector nozzles may be necessary much earlier. Among the main signs indicating the need to clean the injectors are the following:

  • difficulty starting the power unit
  • floating idle speed
  • noticeable reduction in power and traction
  • jerks during acceleration
  • increased fuel consumption

Such signs indicate clogged injectors. But the symptoms cannot definitely indicate a faulty injector. Sometimes this indicates problems in other components and assemblies.

To make a “verdict”, it is recommended to go for car diagnostics or conduct a visual inspection of the element that causes suspicion. As a rule, the listed symptoms do not appear immediately, but after some time.

Especially if the car’s mileage is close to 100 thousand km or has exceeded this mark.

How to clean the injector

There are various ways to bring the injectors into proper shape. Each car owner individually chooses one method or another. Factors when choosing a method may include:

  • availability of free time;
  • technical capabilities.

Also, when choosing, it is worth considering the degree of performance of the device. There are 3 main degrees of injector contamination:

  1. Minor. They practically do not affect the operation of the engine. The only sign may be a slight increase in fuel consumption.
  2. Moderate contamination. In this case, the signs are most pronounced. The engine will start up. There will be a noticeable loss of power and traction of the vehicle, and fuel consumption will seriously increase.
  3. Contamination in which the efficiency of the injectors will be lost by 40-50%. In this case, the engine will literally jump out of the engine compartment. One of the cylinders may stop idling. In this case, it is simply impossible to delay cleaning the injectors.

In order to clean the injectors with your own hands, you need to purchase a special injector cleaning agent that will remove all contaminants.

How to clean the injector yourself

Let's look at the existing methods by which you can clean your car's injectors yourself.

Using special means

This method is the most common among car enthusiasts. To perform the procedure you need to prepare:

  • flushing liquid in aerosol cans;
  • a small hose, 10-15 centimeters in size;
  • several clamps;
  • charger with a voltage of 12 Volts: (this voltage is enough to open the injector valve);
  • toggle switch or button with two contacts;
  • terminals for connecting contacts;
  • container for draining liquid.

Having prepared all the listed available means, you can begin the cleaning procedure:

  1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. To remove the injectors, remove the throttle body and manifold. Then disconnect the injector chips and all other hoses. After this, the fuel rail will be visible.
  2. It is secured with three bolts that need to be unscrewed. Next, lift the ramp and remove the injectors.
  3. Build an electrical circuit that will serve as a kind of motor for opening the injector valves.
  4. Take a piece of hose and attach it to the cylinder with flushing liquid on one side using a clamp, and on the other side to the top of the nozzle. The bottom of the injector is placed in a previously prepared container, which will be filled with flushing liquid.
  5. Strip the wire from the charger using a knife. Connect the red (positive) wire to the button, and attach the blue (negative) wire to the injector contact.
  6. To check the functionality of the assembled circuit, you need to power our charger from an outlet. If everything is done correctly, you will hear a characteristic click. This means that the injector valve has opened.
  7. Let's begin the washing procedure. By pressing on the aerosol with liquid, we create pressure in the hose without opening the nozzle valve. It is worth noting that the clamps with which the hose is secured must be tightened very tightly.
  8. Now let's turn on the circuit. The nozzle opens and flushing liquid is sprayed into the bottle. This procedure is repeated a certain number of times, then you can proceed to the next nozzle.
  9. After finishing the flushing, it is recommended to replace the injector O-rings. To complete the procedure, return them to the fuel rail and reassemble in reverse order.

At the stand

The method consists of washing the injectors using special equipment, which is only possible in service centers. The main advantage of such washing is that the nozzles are cleaned not individually, but as a whole in tandem. This allows you to compare spray uniformity and achieve greater efficiency.

Cleaning without dismantling

For this method, you will need a cylinder with which you can wash each nozzle without removing it. An ordinary plastic container can play its role. A small hole is drilled in its lower part, to which the nipple of the compressor or air pump will be connected.

A hose is inserted into the upper part of the container, where the lid is located. Flushing liquid is placed in the cylinder. Having previously disconnected the fuel pump, the cylinder hose is connected to the fuel rail. Then start the engine and turn on the compressor.

After the cylinder is empty, reassemble it.

The method has a number of disadvantages:

  • when cleaning injectors without removing them, it is impossible to assess their external condition;
  • the method requires the participation of a second person who will start the engine and maintain speed so that the car does not stall when operating without a fuel pump.

Using Ultrasound

The fourth method is the most effective, but also the most difficult to use. The nozzles are washed using ultrasonic waves. Self-cleaning is carried out in an ultrasonic bath, which can be assembled manually.

Chemistry.

The market for automotive chemicals for cleaning injectors is quite extensive. When answering the question of what is the best way to clean the injectors, it is worth considering the most well-known means that allow you to clean the injectors with your own hands:

  • Liqui Moly is a universal product and a good option for cleaning in garage conditions. It does not have an aggressive composition and cleans very delicately, but does not completely remove carbon deposits. It's inexpensive.
  • Wynn's is a product with a very aggressive composition. Perfectly removes dirt and deposits of any degree. Suitable for cars whose production date is not earlier than 2002.
  • Carbon Clean - this product produces a gentle but effective cleaning. The liquid can be called something between competitors Liqui Moly and Wynn's.
  • Laurel is a product similar in composition to Wynn's wash, but more expensive, so it is used much less frequently.

Injector prevention

To keep the injector in working condition, you need to monitor the behavior of your car. In addition, it is important to provide timely and high-quality service. Good fuel will allow the injectors to work for a long time and reduce their cleaning to once every 30,000 km.

Manufacturers also offer special additives as a preventative measure. This method is the easiest. What is the essence of the process? An additive in the form of a liquid is poured into the fuel tank.

Such products can clean not only the injectors, but also the fuel system as a whole. However, this method has negative sides. Deposits and carbon deposits purified by such an additive enter the fuel and begin their journey through the fuel system.

This can lead to mechanical contamination of the injector. This flushing method is effective only if you are confident that the gas tank is clean. Otherwise, further contamination of the fuel system may occur.

It must be remembered that the quality of Russian gasoline often leaves much to be desired, so it is recommended to monitor the degree of contamination of injectors more often than according to regulations.

Summarizing the above, it becomes clear that the injectors can be cleaned with your own hands. The procedure is a simple process, but requires knowledge of some nuances: by following the instructions described above, you will save money and time.

How to wash injector nozzles and what is the best way to clean it yourself

Most modern cars use a fuel injection system, which requires an injector. In fact, this part itself is much simpler when compared with a conventional carburetor. However, due to the presence of complex electronics that regulate the quantity and quality of the fuel mixture, there can be significantly more problems with injectors.

But what to do if this part is clogged? How to clean the injector? Of course, the best option would be to contact a car service center, where all work will be carried out by professionals at a specialized stand using ultrasonic technology.

Should I take it to a car repair shop?

However, the cost of such a service may be too high, or the location of this car service may be too remote. Therefore, you can try to determine the need for flushing using self-diagnosis of the injection system .

So, it would be appropriate to try to cope with such problems yourself, especially if you are using one of the most popular Chinese cars in our country - Lifan.

These machines are distinguished by their unpretentiousness and good capabilities for both service and independent maintenance.

Contacting a service center would be an ideal option.

Signs that the injector needs to be flushed

It must be remembered that a car is a complex mechanism containing many electronic components.

However, it is necessary to exclude the most obvious options, such as clogging the injector.

This applies to those cases when the car begins to work with reduced power or with increased fuel consumption, or begins to stall and stall. It is also possible that the accelerator pedal suddenly “sinks” or that the power unit operates unstable. And in the case of exhausts, their smokiness may increase.

Check the exhaust quality

The most “harmless” option would be a simple reduction in dynamic characteristics. The car, as it were, will stop “pulling”.

If the problem is simply ignored, then the car may develop more serious problems. The point is that the injector will be clogged to such an extent that it will have to be completely replaced. And this, depending on the car model, can result in expenses of up to several hundred US dollars.

But this can be very difficult to do, since the quality of fuel can vary, even within the same gas station.

Injector prevention standards

Injector maintenance should be carried out at least once every five thousand kilometers, if we talk about the water binder in gasoline; or at least once every ten thousand kilometers, in the case of complete cleaning of the injector. Even if the injector has no “symptoms” of problems, this does not mean at all that they will not occur in the future.

How to clean the injector

Now the time has come to begin the direct action of servicing your car yourself. If you are wondering how to clean the injector yourself, then the following information will be very useful for you.

First, you need to decide what is best to flush the injector with. Most often, we are talking about a special liquid that is sold in car stores.

Its chemical composition is practically the same, since this substance does the same thing - eliminates third-party elements from the fuel movement channels. Now you will no longer worry about what liquid to flush the injector with. Thus, we can say that we will simply have to drive a special liquid through the nozzle in order to achieve its complete cleansing.

There is no fundamental difference in the fluid for flushing the carburetor or injector

In order to clean the injector with your own hands, you need to reduce the pressure in the fuel line. This is done while the engine is running. We need to remove the fuse, which is responsible for the operation of the engine. Now we wait a few minutes before the motor is completely stopped.

Remove the rack with injectors

After this, it is necessary to disconnect the injector terminals, as well as several other elements, including the injection and reversing fuel line hoses, as well as the rail with injectors, which must be unscrewed and completely removed.

And only after this, it is time to remove the injector rings.

Washing process

Cleaning the injector yourself is quite simple. To do this, it is necessary, as we have already noted, to simply drive the appropriate liquid through the injector. You will have to wash each injector separately.

To do this, we will need wires with terminals or other reliable contacts to connect to a power source operating in the range from 9 to 12 Volts.

It is necessary to check that the contact with the push-button switch is as reliable as possible.

A regular syringe will do

Now it is important to ensure a tight fit of the fluid supply channel in the nozzle. To do this, you can use a five-gram syringe, which is attached to the nozzle on its wide side.

Take care of the power source

Now we connect the prepared terminals to the power source. Thus, we begin the process of simulating the operation of the valve by pressing and releasing the switch key. We need to pass the liquid through the nozzle under high pressure. This way we can clean the valve seats, as well as the fuel channels.

Once the liquid has been passed through the nozzle several times, it must be left for some time before the oxidation process takes place. After this, the procedure is repeated again. If everything is done correctly, the nozzle will begin to function again, as it did from the very beginning.

It is important to pay attention to whether there is a leak at the base of the injector. You can check this quite simply - set the pressure in the line using a fuel pump. So, we will need to start the engine a couple of times without starting it.

You can install everything in its place

After these simple procedures, you need to check whether the car is working properly. If all is well, then the problem was only a malfunction of the injector. Otherwise, it is necessary to look for other shortcomings in the functioning of the power unit.

If after cleaning the injectors, your car is still “stupid”, then you need to check the pressure in the fuel rail; the problem may be in some of its elements.

How to properly clean the injector yourself

Anyone who knows even a little about a car knows that one of the most important elements in the injection system is the injectors. The health of the entire car depends on their serviceability. And therefore, every novice driver should know how to clean the injector himself and how to keep it in good condition.

An important element of a car's power system are injectors.

The fuel system of a modern engine is a delicate, complex and sensitive mechanism. In the engine fuel system, obvious malfunctions immediately appear in its operation, especially due to the use of low-quality fuel. It often contains many different impurities that manufacturers use to increase the octane number of their fuel.

Does the injector need flushing?

Chemical compounds such as olefin, benzene, sulfur, and others form tar deposits in fuel lines and ramps. And during combustion - on the external and internal surfaces of the injectors.

The deposits formed on the injectors are a black-brown crust that does not dissolve with gasoline, making it very difficult to wash the injector with your own hands.

This procedure, as a rule, does not produce tangible results.

The fuel system should only be flushed at a car repair shop or service station using professional equipment. Currently, injector flushing is carried out using professional equipment, which requires certain skills and experience to operate. How to determine whether it is time to clean the injector?

Contamination of the system is easily determined by the operation of the engine: when the performance of the injectors decreases and the spray angle is incorrect, fuel consumption increases, the car twitches, dips are observed during acceleration, unstable idle speeds, the engine starts poorly, especially in winter.

How to clean the injector yourself

The easiest way to clean the fuel system is to use additives. They are inexpensive, always available for sale, and you can wash the injector yourself. You just need to pour the additive into the gas tank and do this every 5,000 - 6,000 km. In this case, virtually the entire fuel system is cleaned: starting with the gas tank and ending with the piston cylinders.

Cleaning injectors at home:

However, this method can only be recommended as a preventive measure. An attempt to clean a contaminated injector in this way will result in contaminants settling in stagnant zones, in pipelines, and on injector filters. For cars with high mileage, such cleaning does not do anything.

Chemical cleaning of injectors

A moderately clogged injector can be cleaned without removing the injectors.

The flushing unit is connected to the vehicle’s fuel system and a special liquid is supplied to the injector, which dissolves deposits formed in the injectors.

After 20 minutes of engine operation on this liquid with a pressure of 5-6 atmospheres, the question of how to wash the injectors with your own hands has already been resolved. The combustion chamber, ramp, and valves are effectively cleaned.

Solvents for washing injectors are available today in a wide range. Experts recommend Wynns liquid. But, having these advantages, this procedure is powerless with heavy contamination. In addition, such an event is accompanied by the replacement of candles, since the mixture used is very aggressive.

Cleaning injectors without removing them:

The point of this procedure is to wash the injectors in a special bath using a special suspension and exposure to an ultrasonic unit.

Even very complex contaminants that cannot be cleaned chemically are separated. Another advantage is the ability to control the permeability, tightness and spray pattern of the nozzles.

Such fine washing of injectors is reflected in the price of this service: it is higher than chemical ones.

Another method is ultrasonic cleaning of injectors.

Ultrasonic cleaning is applicable for heavily contaminated injectors caused by the use of low-octane or low-quality gasoline. If the car has driven much more than 30,000 kilometers after washing or cleaning the injector, it is worth using this cleaning method.

Cleaning injectors and injectors for cars with different mileage

New cars with low mileage, as well as after washing the injectors, are quite suitable for using flushing liquids. They must be used after 4,000 -5,000 km. After this procedure, it is necessary to change the fuel filter.

After 100,000 km. mileage, it is useful to carry out a general flush. Not only the injectors are cleaned, but also the entire fuel system.

For cars with a mileage of 150,000 - 200,000 km, ultrasound is more suitable. Since such mileage leaves dirt on the injectors, coking occurs.

How to clean the injector yourself

In common parlance this technique is called an “enema”. To “do an enema” you will need:

  • good quality flushing fluid;
  • new spark plugs included;
  • 1.5-2 liters of usually filled gasoline;
  • syringe (purchased at the pharmacy);
  • assistant press the gas pedal.

Sequencing

Mix washing fluid and gasoline. Raise the hood and find the hose that goes from the “vacuum manifold” to the intake manifold. Remove the adapter; it looks like a rubber tube.

Fill a syringe with a mixture of gasoline and washing liquid and pour it into the tube under pressure. Wait for 10-15 minutes, during which time everything that the liquid has reached will oxidize.

Do-it-yourself dry cleaning of injectors:

Now we connect the assistant. He starts the car, which is quite difficult, since the tube is disconnected. The engine does not hold speed, stalls, you have to constantly press on the gas, maintaining a level of 2500-2800 Rpm.

At the next stage, we again inject a mixture of gasoline and flushing fluid. The matter is not easy because of the pressure inside the tube, which pulls the syringe inside. At this time, the muffler makes various sounds: from popping to a terrible roar. There may be puffs of white smoke or black soot falling out.

There is no need to pour in a lot of washing mixture at once. It’s better not to waste time and dose. Let everything be washed better.

Observe safety precautions when cleaning injectors

After pouring in the entire mixture, turn off the engine, when it cools down, unscrew the spark plugs and replace them with new ones. This method does not flush the entire system, but it is the best alternative to a trip to the service center.

Products recommended for cleaning the injector

A well-known Internet portal dedicated to the problems of motorists conducted tests of various flushing fluids and published its recommendations. Here are some of them.

STP SUPER CONCENTRATED FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER

DOSAGE: entire bottle - 364 ml.

FEATURES OF APPLICATION: pour before refueling to evenly distribute the additive in the fuel and achieve maximum efficiency.

TEST RESULT: the liquid showed very high cleaning abilities. It easily dissolved deposits to a suspended state, but it is recommended to use it only if you are sure that the gas tank is absolutely clean, otherwise dirt can clog the receiving screen in the gas pump and damage it.

STP Super Concentrated Fuel Injector Cleaner

The product washed away more than 80% of the contaminants. Subsequent washing with a special solution removed the remaining deposits. This aggressive flushing can be recommended for use with low mileage; the best option is to flush the injector yourself with a preparation of this type.

Scheme

I think everything is clear: fill the bottle with a pump, pump up the pressure, attach the terminals to the battery and wash the injectors by changing the valve opening frequency. I washed the injectors first in one direction, then turned them over and poured them in the other. I used a solvent as a wash, later I tried the degreaser with Wings wash

And then the most interesting part. What came of this and why there is no point in simply cleaning the injectors with the same carbocleaner as everyone else does without measuring performance.

The stand did not fence off. Therefore, I quickly attached the ramp with nozzles to the chair. Again, I think everything is clear.

Here is a video of the injectors working with a change in the valve opening frequency.
The torch hits the glass. The spray quality was previously checked separately on each nozzle. Now it makes sense to look at their spread from each other under the most approximate engine operating conditions. Working hours are arbitrary. Rail pressure 2.7-2.5 atmospheres

Because there are no laboratory measuring cylinders, I used plastic beer cups which I weighed later.

And so let's sum it up. If we take the operating performance of 2 and 3 injectors as 86 grams as 100%1 injector: 82-X%86=100%X= 82*100/86= 95.34883720930233% Dispersion 100% -95.34883720930233%= 4.651162790697674%Next strictly 1 injector performance is 4 less.

How to properly clean an injector with your own hands at a service station level

Cleaning the injectors of the injection power system is not the easiest operation, so they are far from daring to do it themselves, preferring to trust the services of service centers and service stations.

Some people simply don’t want to bother, citing lack of time, while others are simply not sure that they can do everything right.

For those who want to maintain their car themselves, without spending money on service stations (which are not always done well), we will consider the technology for cleaning the injector in a garage.

Cleaning Frequency

Car manufacturers usually indicate in the technical documentation after how many kilometers the injector needs to be cleaned. But here it is worth noting that they do not take into account the peculiarities of car operation, or rather, the fact that the fuel that we sell at gas stations is not always of high quality. And such gasoline primarily affects the rate of clogging of the injectors.

Experienced mechanics have found that in our conditions, injector nozzles need to be cleaned approximately every 10 thousand kilometers. But this figure is conditional, since everything depends on the quality of the fuel being poured.

Some may not need such an operation even after 15 thousand km, while others are forced to clean it after 5 thousand km.

Therefore, it is better for the car owner to navigate the car itself, whose behavior itself will tell you that there are problems with the power system.

The main signs of clogged injector nozzles are:

  • “Dips” appeared when pressing the gas pedal;
  • The power plant functions intermittently;
  • Increased smoke when the engine is running;
  • Decrease in power and dynamics;

If all this is present, and the on-board computer does not show any errors, it is most likely that the injectors are clogged and require cleaning.

Why do you need to monitor the condition of your injectors?

To understand why injector contamination affects the operation of the power plant, let’s briefly consider the principle of its operation. The task of the injectors is to timely supply fuel in a finely dispersed state to the intake manifold or directly to the cylinder so that it mixes with the air before combustion.

Why do you need to monitor the condition of your injectors?

In order to ensure this, the nozzle design uses a shut-off valve with a needle. When fuel is not supplied, the needle closes the nozzle (small cross-section holes). Also includes a solenoid and core. The latter is connected to the valve.

When voltage is applied to the solenoid, the resulting electromagnetic field acts on the core, which ensures its movement (retraction).

At the same time, it pulls a valve with a needle, as a result, fuel under pressure passes through the channels to the atomizer, from where it is injected into the manifold.

injector nozzles

To ensure high-quality mixture formation, gasoline must be injected in a finely dispersed state (in the form of fog). Only under such conditions is high-quality combustion of the mixture ensured. Good atomization is provided by the holes in the nozzle, but they have very small sections.

Dirt, getting into the nozzle along with gasoline, clogs these holes, which immediately affects the quality of atomization. Because of this, the fuel no longer arrives in the form of a mist, but a stream, so it mixes much less well with the air. As a result, gasoline does not burn completely and some of it simply flies out into the chimney.

This results in a drop in power, an increase in gasoline consumption, and interruptions in engine operation.

Cleaning methods

To remove dirt and deposits from the injectors of the injection power system, two methods are used - ultrasonic and liquid.

The first method is based on the phenomenon of cavitation, in which ultrasound acting on a liquid leads to the formation of microbursts.

The essence of such cleaning is that the nozzles are placed in baths with cleaning liquid, and then exposure to ultrasound is provided.

This cleaning method is very effective, but the equipment for its implementation is expensive, so it is more suitable for service stations.

The liquid method does not require any special equipment, and it can be done in a garage, that is, you can wash the injectors yourself. The essence of the method is very simple - all contaminants are removed by washing with a cleaning liquid supplied under pressure.

Do-it-yourself injector cleaning

In order to clean the injector nozzles yourself, you will need:

  • Carburetor cleaner;
  • Connecting tubes;
  • Clamps;
  • Wires with crocodile clips;

As you can see, little is required, which is why this method is acceptable for garage conditions.

Cleaning of injectors is carried out only with elements removed from the car. And we do it like this:

  1. We relieve the pressure in the fuel system (we look in the mounting block for the fuse responsible for the operation of the fuel pump and remove it. We start the power plant and wait until it stops, having exhausted gasoline from the fuel rail);
  2. We disconnect the pipelines leading to the fuel rail;
  3. Disconnect the wiring from the injectors;
  4. We remove the fuel rail from the car along with the injectors;
  5. We remove the injectors from the ramp (before this, they should be marked so that during installation they do not confuse where each one was);

After removing the nozzles, you can begin cleaning. But for this you need to prepare everything correctly. For cleaning, it is necessary that the nozzle with the cleaning agent can have a tight connection. And for this you need a prepared tube and clamps.

Cleaning the nozzle is done as follows:

  • Using a tube and clamps, we connect the nozzle to the can;
  • During the flushing process, the nozzle must fire, and to do this, we connect wires to its terminals, which are then connected to the battery. But if the “negative” wire can be securely attached to the battery terminal, then the “positive” wire should be left unconnected, or use a switch that cuts into this cable;
  • Having collected everything, you can begin. We pump the cleaning liquid onto the nozzle, while periodically applying voltage to it so that the needle opens;
  • After a cycle of 2-3 opening/closing, disconnect the nozzle from the tube and leave it for a while so that the product acts on the deposits inside, softening them. In the meantime, it is acidifying, you can blow out the rest;
  • After the initial flushing, repeat the procedure with all nozzles. It is important to ensure that the spray of all nozzles is of high quality and identical. Therefore, it is possible that they will have to be blown out several times;

With this relatively simple and uncomplicated method, you can wash the injector nozzles of your car yourself, without resorting to the services of service centers.
