Installing a net in the trunk with your own hands

How to choose a net for a car trunk

Publication date: January 07, 2018.

The trunks of modern passenger cars are quite spacious.

However, to ensure that things carefully placed there before the trip do not turn into a chaotically mixed pile (as a result of sudden braking or driving on uneven roads), it would be better to secure them.

A net in the trunk of a car is just that universal and inexpensive device that will help you quickly secure everything you loaded.

Types of luggage nets

According to the method of installation in the trunk of a car, all fastening nets are divided into two main classes:

  • horizontal;
  • vertical.

Each variety has different sizes (depending on the class of the car and trunk volume) and numerous modifications (according to mounting methods and application features).

Mounting methods

Basic methods of attaching a net in the trunk of a car:

  • Fixation to devices already in the trunk (for example, to hooks or rings installed by the manufacturer). Also for these purposes, you can use technological holes (ventilation holes, for laying electrical wiring, and so on).
  • Attaching the nets to the elements of the rear seats of the car (headrests, tilting hinges of the backrests, etc.). Naturally, this method is only suitable for cars that have easy access to the rear seats from the trunk.
  • Fixing the nets to the inner lining of the trunk (usually made of fleecy material) using Velcro. This method is the most universal and suitable for almost all types of cars. In addition, they can be installed very simply and quickly with your own hands in the most convenient place.
  • Self-installation of special fastening devices (self-tapping screws with hooks). The main advantage of this method is the ability to install any net in the trunk and secure it in the most convenient position (from the owner’s point of view, regardless of the design features of the trunk).

Criterias of choice

When choosing a specific device for securing various objects in the trunk of a car, you need to pay attention to the following points:

  • Geometric dimensions of the trunk.
  • Possibility of fixing the fastening device: does your trunk have a sufficient number of convenient devices to securely fix the net, or will they have to be installed additionally?
  • Grid cell size. This parameter directly depends on the size of the items and tools being transported.

Horizontal grids

A horizontal mesh in the trunk of a car is the most popular type of these fastening devices, because the main “luggage” is usually stored on the bottom of the trunk.

With the help of these devices, it is quite easy to secure objects of various sizes: from small bags of food or clothing to large boxes or suitcases. These luggage nets are made of durable, elastic and highly stretchable materials.

They are therefore suitable for securing both flat and large objects.

Another type of horizontal nets are special devices that are attached to the rigid folding rear shelves of SUVs, station wagons and hatchbacks.

Of course, large and heavy objects cannot be secured using such a mesh.

However, it is quite convenient to store light and small things, especially those that may be needed urgently, for example, when you have to stop to replace a broken tire (work gloves, raincoat, etc.).

Vertical grids

Based on the name, it is clear that such meshes are mounted in a vertical position. Structurally, they can be:

  • Fastening devices similar in design to horizontal products. With their help, things are pressed against the vertical structures of the luggage compartment.
  • Dividing nets. With the help of such devices, the entire volume of the trunk can be divided into several separate parts to optimize the storage of things and tools. The so-called special meshes for niches also fall into this category. They are successfully used to secure things in technological niches of the trunk (for example, formed by wheel arches and walls).
  • Nets designed for installation in the rear of the trunk. These devices perform several useful functions. Firstly, when you sharply open the trunk lid, things do not fall out. Secondly, if it is made of two layers, then between them it is very convenient to put all the important things (which should always be kept at hand), such as a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, pump (or compressor), warning triangle, wheel wrench, etc. Further.
  • Small mesh pockets in the car trunk. They are usually equipped with universal Velcro fasteners.
  • So-called multifunctional organizers in the trunk of a car, which are usually attached to the rear seats. Numerous compartments of such products allow you to conveniently place all the most necessary automotive items in them.

Transporting dogs in the trunk

It’s unlikely that anyone would think of transporting a dog in the cramped trunk of a sedan. Lack of oxygen, lack of lighting and, most importantly, lack of visual contact with the owner can have a very negative impact on both the behavior of the “pet” during the trip and on its well-being subsequently.

But owners of station wagons, SUVs or minivans are offered special nets for transporting dogs so that the “pet” cannot enter the cabin through the backs of the rear seats and distract the driver from the driving process (which is very dangerous). These devices are made from both metal and various synthetic materials.

The simplest nets for transporting dogs in the trunk are no different in design from conventional securing devices for luggage. However, manufacturers position them as special, narrowly targeted products. The difference lies only in the increased strength of the materials used for their manufacture.

On a note! Keep in mind that the strong teeth of pets will very quickly render a regular mesh unusable.

Nets for dogs in the form of metal barriers are the most reliable. Fastening is carried out using customizable telescopic tubes, which rest against the bottom at one end and against the ceiling of the car at the other.

Their width is quite easy to adapt to the geometric dimensions of the vehicle. Naturally, you can purchase original accessories (designed for a specific car brand by the manufacturer itself).

However, the price of such products will be significantly higher than their universal counterparts.

Metal partitions are also produced with universal fastening to headrests. With the help of these products, you can both separate the trunk from the passenger compartment and protect the driver from a restless pet when transported in the back seat of the car (a very useful thing for sedan owners).

Option for making your own fastening mesh

Although a net for a car trunk is quite inexpensive, in some cases it is worth taking the time to make it yourself. This may be necessary, for example, if commercially available products do not satisfy you in size or mounting options.

A home-made device will initially be designed and manufactured for the technological fastening devices available in the trunk and designed to fit the size of the trunk of a particular car. It is not necessary to have any special technical skills.

In order not to be disappointed in your creativity and not to regret the effort and money spent, you can first make, for example, a small vertical mesh with Velcro.

Materials (the quantity, of course, depends on the size of the mesh) and devices necessary for manufacturing:

  • wide elastic band (4-6 cm);
  • Velcro fastening;
  • sewing machine or needle and thread.

The manufacturing algorithm is very simple:

  • make a drawing;
  • cut strips of elastic to the required length and in the required quantity;
  • lay out the pieces in accordance with the drawing on a flat surface;
  • we fasten the workpieces with several stitches;
  • we sew the intersections of the strips (either on a sewing machine or by hand);
  • we fasten along the edges of the fastening: either we sew on strips of Velcro, or we fasten a cord with a hook tied at the end.

If the result satisfies you in all respects, you can begin making a large mesh.

If you wish, you can knit a mesh into a car of the required size with your own hands from an elastic (easily stretchable) cord. Fortunately, acquiring it will also not be difficult.

In the modern world, a car has long ceased to be a luxury item and a common means of promotion.

Nowadays, it is important for drivers to properly organize the interior space so that everything is at hand; for this purpose, many little things and various devices have been invented.

But let’s talk about what’s hidden in the trunk, because it’s often not easy to organize and organize everything you need while also delivering it in proper form. The mesh will be an excellent solution, which replaced the tightening belts, which in turn could not hold small objects.

How to install a net in the trunk and what types are there?

  • Floor horizontal nets - correct installation is carried out using hooks, as a rule, included in the basic package of the machine. They are capable of stretching, thereby securing bulky loads, but they also press small ones tightly enough, preventing them from moving;
  • Vertical – securely and correctly secures “small things” (fire extinguisher, first aid kit, etc.) to the sides;
  • Separating mesh - the main purpose is to prevent objects from getting into the cabin; it is installed to the ceiling at the border using special plugs (also used for transporting dogs or other animals);
  • Auxiliary or additional mesh (pocket) – attached with Velcro or hooks to any place in the cabin, universal and functional;
  • Protective cape – completely or partially covers the luggage compartment (including the side walls and bumper), protecting against damage and dirt;
  • Wheel covers are a kind of subspecies, used for a spare wheel. Suitable for wheels from R13 to R20 inclusive, equipped with a strong handle.

How to install the net in the trunk correctly? Mounting features.

  • Basically, all car manufacturers provide for the installation of such devices directly in the luggage compartment, leaving special holes;
  • Install in the places where the back of the chair is fixed;
  • Self-tapping screws or other fastening parts of the kit.

Nets in the luggage compartment and their correct installation will help not only secure cargo of different sizes, organize space, but also eliminate the additional noise of things “rolling” there.

First of all, you should decide for what purposes it is needed, which will give you the opportunity to make the right and necessary purchase.

It is preferable to purchase a luggage net where there is a large selection for any budget, for example here

We improve the trunk of the Niva with our own hands

The first experience of operating the “long” Niva confirmed that rumors on the Internet about the capabilities of the luggage compartment of a car are by no means exaggerated.

Indeed, with the rear seat folded down, a crew of two does not have to worry about the availability of free space in a campsite or private yard.

When transporting things along the route “home - dacha” and “home - store”, problems also do not arise. Below in the photo are the “sleeping” capabilities of the luggage compartment of the “long” Niva.

This is where the advantages end and the problems begin. Basically there are two of them.

  1. The trunk is as large as it is stupid; it is poorly suited for conveniently placing cargo (there are no hooks, drawers, or nets).
  2. The plastic factory trunk shelf of a VAZ creates more problems than it is worth, as I already wrote about in my previous article. You can only throw them out or try to replace them with wooden analogues.

Three months of using the car after purchase - and the desire to finish the trunk with my own hands has grown from the “want” category to the “must” category.

How to modify the trunk with your own hands is described below.

Niva trunk: current situation, first attempt at improvement

A simple replacement of plastic factory shelves with purchased wooden ones (20 mm plywood, coated with carpet) ended in failure. The noise has not decreased, and functionality has not increased.

The homemade trunk was of average quality and cost 1,800 rubles.

The main reason is the “flimsy” design of wooden shelves. It is clear that the manufacturer tried to save money on everything. For comparison, the photo below shows the main part.

Black top, white bottom

The essence of the next attempt to equip a homemade trunk was to attach a standard (factory) mount to generally good wooden shelves. The creative process is shown in the photo below.

The attempt could be considered successful, but when installing the shelves, considerable acrobatic training is required. The result is practically no different from the first option, but the assembly required much more hassle and nerves.

A smart person won't go uphill, a smart person will go around the mountain

Since it was not possible to successfully solve the problem head-on and immediately equip the trunk with my own hands, I began to look for workarounds. Came to the following conclusions:

  1. The shelves must be secured in such a way that they can be easily and quickly dismantled, if possible without the use of tools.
  2. Purchased shelves for the trunk of a VAZ need to be modified so that the space above the arches in the trunk can be used for storing essential items.
  3. To eliminate misunderstandings when developing the design of the shelves, you need to make a mock-up.

Development of design and production of shelf layouts

To create the shelf layout, I used existing scrap OSB sheets. The thickness of the OSB is 9 mm, the thickness of the purchased plywood is 10 mm, which ensured sufficient accuracy.

As a load-bearing structural element, I decided to use the inner side wall of the future design, attached with standard bolts to the body of the luggage compartment. The result is a rigid and reliable fastening. See photo below left.

Accordingly, all other elements will be attached to the load-bearing side wall (lower photo).

The main stages and work in the manufacture of shelf layouts:

To attach the top and bottom shelves I used a steel strip (25x4) (shown below) and furniture corners (20x30 and 20x40).

Preliminary fastening (both on the OSB model and during the first trial assembly from plywood) was done using small self-tapping screws. During final assembly I used self-tapping screws of the maximum permissible length and bolted connections. In order for the speaker diffuser to fit better on the shelves, I cut spacers from 6 mm thick rubber through which I attached the speakers to the shelves.

In order not to clutter up the space, I initially decided to set aside the right shelf for the necessary things that I always carry with me: a foot pump, an emergency sign, a wheel wrench, a cable and a fire extinguisher. Accordingly, the cutouts were made taking into account the size and characteristics of these items. In this case, a fire extinguisher should always be within direct reach.

VAZ trunk shelf made of plywood

If you have a layout, making shelves is easy and relaxed. It will take 1.5 - 2 hours. I performed a test assembly of the original using small self-tapping screws. The main steps and features are shown below. The photo shows the internal structure of the side right shelf and the system for mutual fastening of the shelf elements.

To ensure that items were securely placed inside the shelf, I installed an additional panel. In the photo it is temporarily secured with a clamp.

Of course, later I modified the design so that the panel would hold securely and at the same time be quickly removed without the use of tools.

I used furniture corners as blanks for making guide clamps: I straightened them, cut them into two equal parts, bent one side of the part a little, filed the edges and put them on screws.

After all the structural elements were finally adjusted, I painted all the parts of the shelf with two layers of black enamel for exterior use.

After drying all the parts, I covered them with black carpet (to match the color of the purchased shelves) using Moment glue and a construction stapler.

A set of ready-made additional elements for a shelf on one side of the trunk:

The photo below shows the manufacturing features of the main strength element to which all other parts of the shelf are attached. During final assembly, I screwed the steel strip to the sheet using self-tapping screws, furniture nuts and M5 bolts.

This is how I attached the load-bearing structure to the car body on the left and right sides.

Assembly procedure for modified shelves

After installing the power wall, we attach the top shelf with the speakers to the top bracket using two self-tapping screws.

We install the side panel of the purchased shelf and fasten it with two M10 bolts with a wing nut.

We install the middle shelf and fasten it with two self-tapping screws. We install a support stand to which an additional quick-release panel will be attached, hiding and protecting the items stored in the shelf.

General view of the luggage compartment with installed modified shelves:

What has changed after installing the trunk?

  • The noise from plastic panels and rolling objects in the trunk has disappeared. Everything is always in place.
  • The volume of the central luggage compartment has remained virtually unchanged and is not occupied by anything during everyday trips.
  • If the trunk needs to be washed or the carpet in it needs to be changed, it will take approximately (4-5) minutes to disassemble both side shelves, and this can be done without the use of any tools.
  • To completely dismantle the shelves you will need a Phillips screwdriver, a wrench and 7-10 minutes.

Do you need a net in the trunk of a car?

In every car there are a number of little things that are not important, however, in the overall picture they complement each other well and the overall picture.

This is just such a useful little thing that is a net in the trunk of a car. It easily neutralizes all the troubles and inconveniences that may interfere with the driver’s trip.

A simple question - how to transport things in the trunk so that they maintain their original position, without rolling, deforming or falling? The answer is even simpler - install a net in the trunk and get rid of problems with fragile and breakable cargo forever.

Materials for making a mesh in the trunk

Typically, the mesh in the trunk is made of durable and elastic materials in order to avoid rupture or deformation of the entire protective structure.

Hence the division of types of luggage nets:

  • floor mesh with increased elasticity. Such structures are made from strong threads, up to 8 mm thick, into which, moreover, a rubber thread is woven. Thanks to this, the network has a good stretch coefficient, maintaining its original position. The size of the network cells is 50*50 mm;
  • economy class floor nets. This option has its advantages due to its small cells, ideal for transporting small items and items. The thickness of the threads from which the luggage net is made is 3 mm;
  • pocket type nets. This type operates on the principle of shopping bags, and is well suited for transporting things in a standing position. The stretching depth of such a mesh is about a meter or so;
  • car covers for spare tire. This variety is intended exclusively for high-quality storage for any type of car tires.

In addition to the design itself, the kit includes special hook fastenings, with the help of which the luggage net is secured in the car. The mesh installation procedure takes literally a few minutes.

In general, trunk nets are usually included in the basic equipment of the car, but what to do if it is not there, or if it has broken down? You will have to buy a new one, and if the damage is not critical, then try to repair the old one.

And it’s best to immediately purchase a high-quality mesh, so that after a few years you don’t have to rush around looking for a new one.

Purpose of the luggage net

When motorists are going on a long trip, to nature, to the sea, or simply on a trip of many kilometers, the question arises about the maximum allowable placement of things in the luggage compartment.

It is the mesh that will help fill the trunk so that all the free space will be used pragmatically, also in such a way that, being carefully stowed, things will remain in this position all the way.

The mesh is also indispensable for fragile goods, such as dishes, glass containers, and equipment.

For those who doubt the advisability of using a net in the trunk...

Even if the above arguments did not have the desired impact on the skeptics, and the questions are - what is the grid for? – still arise, it is worth saying that no one is immune from sudden and emergency situations.

Therefore, it is better to be prepared for any unexpected situation and equip your car to the fullest extent. Who knows when the need will arise? In addition, the grid can be either vertical or horizontal.

It all depends on the needs and body of the car.

How to install the net in the trunk

All measures for installing the luggage net must be strictly ordered, otherwise there may be a loss of time and nerves.

At the first stage, you need to disassemble the entire trunk, simultaneously putting out all the spare parts and other accessories.

Next, you need to calculate and drill several uniform holes in the car body on which the mesh will be attached.

Fasteners are inserted into the resulting holes, and if everything is smooth, then the net can be tensioned.

Results

It would seem that this net for the trunk of a car is such a small thing, but no matter how you figure it out, it is very problematic for a motorist (and even one who has been on the road for a long time) to do without it.

Although, a real driver always has all the equipment in perfect order and in working order. Thus, by doing a few preliminary works, you can prepare for any situation on the road.

Net in the trunk

A modern car is not only a means of transportation, it is also a whole life. Probably many people move around the city after work to shops, pharmacies, markets, etc. And on weekends the car is used 100% by super and hypermarkets.

And probably everyone has encountered such a problem as small objects rolling around in the trunk. You know, you’re driving along the road, the turns are bumpy and something is rolling around in the trunk, it’s a little annoying. A net in the trunk will save you from this.

If you don’t know what it is and why, then read on our article...

Net in the trunk

Such grids come in both floor and vertical types.

Floor mesh in the trunk

Floor mesh. Often found in the maximum trim levels of the car. For example, the maximum version of the LADA Granta “LUX” that I recently tested had such a net in the trunk. Attaches to standard hooks and presses the load tightly, stretches so it can hold a fairly large load.

It seems to me that floor types are the most practical. Because you can put a load of any weight, it will still press. The main thing is that you can hook it with hooks.

They are used in cars with sedan and station wagon body types, because the trunk of such cars is much larger than, say, hatchback cars.

Vertical mesh in the trunk

In hatchback cars, it is customary to use a vertical grid. This was done due to the limited trunk space, which is why many manufacturers put vertical options in hatchbacks as standard.

It turns out to be almost a large weighing bag into which you can put a load. However, vertical options are less practical; you cannot put a large and heavy load in it, because it can simply break the fastenings.

For such nets, the fastenings are located vertically.

However, I would like to say that both the sedan and the hatchback can have both a vertical and horizontal grid. That is, it is not a rule to place a horizontal mesh in sedans, and a vertical one in hatchbacks.

There are also auxiliary small meshes, which, as a rule, are located in niches on the sides for attaching small items or technical tools.

Side mesh

If you don’t have such a device, but still want to fix small things, don’t worry, you can buy a universal mesh, both floor and vertical. By the way, you can buy it both with fasteners, which you will need to screw into the trunk yourself, and without them; the mesh can be attached to standard holes that are found in any car.

A net in the trunk is a necessary thing, I’m thinking of buying one from AVEO, which I think will structure the trunk. Here’s an easy article today, read our AUTOBLOG.

Net in the trunk of a car: how to choose the right one

Why do you need a net in the trunk of a car?

A car is not only a means of transportation. In recent years, the car has become an assistant, capable of transporting people and large amounts of cargo.

The trunks of new car models have a unique capacity and are ready to accept any luggage, be it suitcases with clothes, building materials, sports equipment and other things. The main problem is correct placement.

Having easily loaded the compartment and driven several kilometers on bad roads, it is unlikely that you will be able to find anything in the trunk. In such a situation, the savior is a net in the trunk of a car.

Why do you need a net in the trunk of a car?

The purpose of the net is to secure things, products and tools stored in the trunk. Using a mesh, it is easier to secure a compact compressor for inflating wheels, a jack, a pump, a suitcase and other things. At the same time, clutter in the luggage compartment is eliminated. Another plus is the absence of additional noise made by objects scattered all over the floor.

Just a few years ago, the only fastening option was to use tension straps. They had a big disadvantage - the inability to fix small-sized items. During long trips on bumpy roads, they constantly jumped out of their seats. From this position, a car trunk net is a better choice.

The main thing is to know what types of meshes there are, what they are made of and what features they have.

Car trunk net: main types

There are several types of mesh design:

1. Floor horizontal grids

Horizontal mesh in the trunk

Such products are often installed in the basic configuration of the car. Fixation is carried out using hooks, which are supplied in the set and tightly press even small objects. A big plus of the floor mesh is its ability to stretch, which allows you to transport even large loads.

The advantage of horizontal mesh is practicality and ease of use. With its help, securing the load takes a few seconds. At the same time, the driver is confident that the mesh will withstand the load and will not break.

This type of mesh is most useful in large vehicles with a large trunk (for example, station wagons);

2. Vertical mesh in the trunk

Vertical mesh for car trunk

It helps secure various types of loads to the sides of the machine. If you use it, securing a fire extinguisher, first aid kit or other “small things” is a matter of a few seconds. The use of a vertical mesh is an opportunity to save interior space and forget about extraneous noise. Rumble and noise from objects scattered throughout the luggage compartment are a thing of the past;

3. Separating mesh

The product serves as a space delimiter (nothing is placed in it). Installation location: between the trunk of the car and the passenger compartment. The goal is to prevent items from the luggage compartment from getting into the vehicle.

New models of such meshes have two parts that are interconnected - lower and upper. If the seat backs are raised, then only the first part is used, which is fixed to the ceiling in several places using special plugs.

The second one is twisted at this moment and put into special loops.

The second option is folded seat backs. In this case, the nets unfold 100% and are attached to the ceiling using special clamps, which are also closed with special plugs.

4. Auxiliary (additional) grids

Products that perform an auxiliary function and secure the necessary cargo in the niches of the luggage compartment.
Such products are fixed using special Velcro. The advantage is versatility (the mesh can be attached anywhere in the cabin). The pocket-shaped mesh stretches to a size of 1.1 meters.

Moreover, it is equipped with various hooks that cling to the side parts of the car trim. The design feature is functionality, the ability to hold small objects, bottles of liquid (in a vertical position).

Also, the resulting “pockets” are used for folding rags, various cleaning brushes and other small things;

5. Wheel covers

Wheel covers

One of the subtypes of nets required for the spare wheel of a car. The product is made of dense awning material that tightly fits the wheel along the entire radius. In the middle part there is a special handle that simplifies the process of using the product. This cover is universal and is suitable for wheels of various radii - from R13 to R19.

Material of the mesh in the trunk and features of its design

: Car mesh

In the manufacture of such nets, materials are used that can securely secure the load and not break at a critical moment. Rubber threads with protection - rope weaving - are used as a base.

The advantage of the design is elasticity and resilience. On one and the other side of the product (for strength) a rubberized fabric insert is made, which increases the life of the product.

As for the design features of the net in the trunk of a car, there are several options:

  1. Elastic floor mesh. For their manufacture, relatively thick threads with a diameter of 8 millimeters are used. Each cell of the product has a size of 5*5 cm. Due to the weaving of a rubber thread, the mesh stretches, completely envelops the load and presses it to the bottom of the vehicle. Such nets are often used to secure cargo in vehicle boxes. The product is easy to install and does not require the involvement of specialists.
  2. Classic floor grids. In their design, they completely repeat the elastic version. The only difference is in the thickness of the threads (here it is 5 millimeters) and the size of the cluster (5*5 cm).
  3. Economy class floor networks. For their manufacture, intertwined threads are used, forming a diameter of 3 mm. The advantage of this type of mesh is the reliability of the design and the presence of thinner threads in the composition. If you need to transport smaller items (for example, toys), then the economy option is most suitable.

Mounting features

: Net in the trunk, fastening

When purchasing a mesh, it is important to understand the features of its fastening. There are several options here:

  1. Fixation on mounts installed in the car. Usually they are provided by the design of the luggage compartment and directly by the car manufacturer.
  2. In the places where the back of the chair is fixed (attached) in a vertical position.
  3. For special openings located in the luggage compartment. Most of the nets are equipped with fastening hooks. With their help, it is easy to catch on an existing hole or ledge in the car. Such clamps are used in nets for niches. There are often holes made near them, and in the inner part there are special brackets.
  4. Fasteners that come with the mesh. In such a situation, the product is fastened with ordinary self-tapping screws, which are screwed into the bottom with a drill (screwdriver).

Features of the animal net

Transporting dogs in a car is a particular dilemma. There are several options here - buy a simple mesh or spend money on a special product. If the car has a hatchback or station wagon body, then a simple net for transporting animals will be enough. Such a product will limit the dog’s access to the interior, prevent the seats from getting dirty and distract the driver from the road.

Net in the trunk for transporting dogs

The second type of luggage net involves restricting the animal within the trunk. This type of design is ideal for any type of car body. Special products are mesh playpens that do not create much discomfort for the dog, but keep it in one place. The only downside is the lack of a top, so large dogs can easily jump out of the “den.”

The advantage is that it traps fur, which remains inside and does not scatter throughout the cabin.
There are types of mesh that allow animals to be transported lying down. In such a situation, the net is pulled over the dog and fixed to the floor. At the same time, the four-legged friend is able to move thanks to the elasticity of the threads. The mesh size should be selected taking into account the size of the animal.

Conclusion

A net in the trunk of a car is a useful thing that can be used to solve many problems, namely the transportation of large and small cargo, dogs, technical equipment and other items. But in order to make the right purchase, you should decide for what purpose you need the mesh, and based on this, make your choice.

    Choosing a net for the trunk of a car

    After purchasing a vehicle, many people begin to actively use the car trunk, constantly transporting and storing various things in it.

    Naturally, when the car is moving, there is a possibility of damage to some of the things being transported, since special fasteners for this purpose are rarely provided in the luggage compartment.

    To avoid this unpleasant situation, many car enthusiasts began to purchase a net for the trunk of their car.

    Purpose of a car trunk net

    The purpose of such a mesh is to provide additional protection for all things transported in the trunk, as well as to maintain proper order in this compartment of the car.

    Many car enthusiasts traditionally use special belts in such situations, which have one significant disadvantage compared to a mesh - they are not able to reliably fix various small-sized items or products of inconvenient configuration.

    The mesh makes it easy to cope with this problem, since, unlike belts, it has a large working surface that has the necessary flexibility to be able to fasten products of any shape.

    What type of mount is provided for the trunk net?

    There are several factors for successfully choosing such a product. One of them is the method of fastening the mesh itself in the vehicle. Today you can purchase products presented in four types of fastening systems:

    1. Fixation on standard factory car mounts. Many automakers place special elements in the luggage compartment intended for further use by the car owner for his own purposes. Some companies also produce car nets specifically for these elements. Their peculiarity is the fact that this option is suitable only for a certain car brand, since on different cars the factory mounts can be located in completely different places.
    2. Fixation on special elements of the rear seat of the vehicle. Naturally, this option is only suitable for those cars where the design provides easy access from the luggage compartment to the car interior.
    3. Using universal fasteners. The most popular version of such products, since it practically does not depend on the characteristics of the car itself. The mesh is fixed in the selected location to the metal of the car body using self-tapping screws. Most often used for horizontal meshes.
    4. Velcro products. Another universal option that does not require taking into account the features of the luggage compartment of vehicles.

    The next factor of choice is the operational features of the automotive mesh.

    What to choose

    You can choose a similar product from the four most popular options, although there are other analogues, which, however, are extremely rare. Almost always, a car enthusiast prefers to select similar products from the following types:

    1. Horizontal or, as they are often called, floor nets in the trunk. Their purpose is to secure things to the floor of the luggage compartment to prevent them from moving and bouncing when the vehicle moves. This option is quite popular among people who are used to transporting pets in this place. On the one hand, such a net protects the pet from possible damage, on the other hand, it gives enough freedom.
    2. Vertical nets for the trunk. As the name implies, it is mounted on one of the vertical surfaces of the luggage compartment or on the back of the rear seat of the vehicle, if such a possibility exists. This option allows you to more rationally place the things being transported and guarantee reliable fixation of those that cannot be transported in a horizontal position or the impact of the car body when moving should be reduced.
    3. Vertical meshes of small sizes. In terms of their operating principle, they are no different from the previous version, but they take up less space and are designed for fixing small things, for example, a set of tools, a flashlight, and so on.
    4. Universal type. Special clamps allow you to secure such a mesh in any position. Its advantage also lies in the possibility of the fastest possible dismantling if the car owner urgently needs to secure the things transported in the trunk in a different way.

    Naturally, when choosing a car net, a person should also pay attention to some other important characteristics:

      • Product area;
      • Cell size;
      • Thread thickness.

    For example, you can purchase similar products with a thread thickness of only three millimeters, but it can only withstand a minimum load - for heavier items it is recommended to buy meshes with a material thickness of at least five to eight millimeters.

    Why do you need a trunk net?

    It's always difficult to organize space in the trunk. There is a constant mess there, and cleaning is carried out in exceptional cases when it cannot be done without it.

    It happens that only brushes and a pair of gloves are carried in the trunk, but even such little things can create a mess in the trunk. Therefore, you can purchase a net for the trunk to store small items in it. There are floor and vertical grids.

    Floor nets securely press the cargo to the floor of the trunk, which eliminates the movement of cargo, and there is also no noise that usually occurs when the car is moving. Vertical nets are a must in the trunk.

    You can install a fire extinguisher, brushes, gloves, auto fluids, etc. there. There are a lot of similar items collected in any car, and as a rule, they are located somewhere, but where is a difficult question.

    Therefore, it is much more convenient to place them all in the trunk in a special net.

    The mesh in the trunk protects the bottom and side walls of the trunk from dirt and damage . In addition, it can additionally protect the bumper from damage. As a rule, the mesh in the trunk is created from waterproof universal black fabric.

    When choosing a mesh, you need to think about the purpose for which the mesh is being purchased. If you are going to transport large objects in it, such as a watermelon, then you need to be aware that the mesh may not be able to withstand such weight, especially if you drive at high speeds. However, if the main function of a trunk net is to support the lightweight items you need, then the net will do the job just fine.

    The net in the trunk is made of elastic material in the generally accepted cell size, subject to all tensile standards, and a rubber thread is woven into each cell. Thanks to this structure, high load securing characteristics are achieved.

    They come in various modifications and types, which allows you to choose exactly the model that suits you. There are nets with a lot of Velcro that are attached to the pile upholstery. You can use several grids at once. Hooks are often included in the kit.

    According to reviews from car owners, the net in the trunk is a very convenient thing. For example, in a minivan you can remove the rear seats to place a stroller or bicycle.

    Accordingly, it is not convenient to stack products from the supermarket and cans, because they move completely chaotically around the trunk. In this case, a net at the bottom of the trunk helps.

    A durable, elastic mesh will reliably protect things from unnecessary falls and movements.
