How to adjust the throttle

Throttle valve - how and when should it be adjusted? + video

How to adjust the throttle

Electronic engine throttle is necessary to allow oxygen to flow into the engine. The principle of its operation is not complicated, we will analyze it, and also learn how to adjust the position of the element.

How does the throttle valve work?

You control the air supply to the engine using the accelerator or, more simply, the gas pedal. And it, in turn, is connected directly to the throttle or throttle assembly.

It is with the help of the gas pedal that you regulate the frequency with which the throttle valve operates; it opens, letting in the next portion of oxygen. Its control comes in two types: electronic and mechanical.

Of course, with the electronic version it is less likely to become unusable than with the mechanical one, because the program rarely fails, and the clarity of commands from the electronics allows for less load on the mechanism, it is used more rationally, which is why it lasts longer.

Of course, the principle of operation of the throttle valve is more complex than “open-let-in-air-close,” but from our side it is seen this way; only mechanics know a more detailed diagram. It is possible to notice a malfunction of the damper while driving, especially at high speed.

If you feel that the car picks up speed very hard when the gas is supplied, then most likely there is a malfunction in it.

Sometimes it happens that the throttle valve unit may be in a faulty condition, but still, first of all, you should pay attention to the throttle valve itself.

Throttle valve malfunctions - how to recognize them?

It is the damper that accounts for the bulk of the work. Think about how many times you pressed the gas pedal while driving a car! Due to the fact that it is so often involved in the moving operation of the engine, it must be periodically adjusted.

And this should be done extremely carefully. If any malfunctions occur during adjustment, replacing the throttle valve is most likely inevitable.

So that you don’t have any incidents when replacing, now we’ll take a closer look at how to properly adjust the throttle valve.

The adjustment is quite simple, the main thing is to follow the sequence of certain actions.

 I would also like to warn you: if you notice that the new car is picking up speed, in your opinion, not very quickly, you should not immediately try to adjust the throttle.

Most likely, the throttle valve is adapting (learning), in this case everything will simply be corrected by time. But if you feel that adaptation has been delayed, then you should take action.

Throttle valve adjustment - what to pay attention to?

First of all, turn off the ignition, thereby moving the throttle valve to the closed position. Disconnect the sensor connector and immediately check whether there is continuity between the terminals. If you are sure that there is no voltage, then you should configure and adjust the sensor.

Now you need to use a 0.4mm feeler gauge, it is located between the lever and the screw, this is also where the throttle body gasket is located.

Using special instruments, most often an ohmmeter, make sure that there is no voltage there either. If there is voltage, then the sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced with a new one. If everything is in order, then you need to continue adjusting the sensor.

You need to turn the throttle actuator until you reach the value between the terminals that is indicated in the technical documentation for the car. Once you have adjusted everything, check that the screws on the sensor are tight.

During the adjustment itself they could become loose.

Adjusting the throttle valves

Cleaning the injector is usually done in conjunction with cleaning the throttle valve. Next you need to adjust it. The throttle valve is adjusted after it has been repaired or replaced. If the throttle valve does not operate correctly, engine performance decreases and excessive fuel consumption increases.

The vibration of the engine when idling indicates that the throttle valve needs to be adjusted.

The cause of the malfunction is usually low-quality fuel and oil, worn engine mounts and failed spark plugs, as well as crankcase gas contamination due to a clogged air filter.

Due to the fact that all engine components closely interact with each other, it is important not only to repair, replace, clean, check the throttle valve, but also to carry out complete maintenance of the engine.

Checking the throttle valves

The throttle valve (VV) is one of the most important elements among other injection engine systems. It regulates the passage of air into the engine cylinders. The throttle valve is located between the intake manifold and the air filter. It has a mechanical drive, in some cases electric with electronic control.

Checking a mechanically operated damper

A mechanically actuated throttle valve is used on most mass-produced cars. This is one of the components that does not need special attention.

However, checking the throttle valve is sometimes necessary. It usually begins with checking the full opening. To do this, you must manually set its lever to the “Open” position.

If it does not open completely, you need to adjust the length of the drive cable.

At first glance, there is little discomfort when driving a car without any particular reason. The signs are:

  • starting the engine becomes uncertain,
  • unprogrammed fluctuations in idle speed,
  • The car jerks when driving at a speed of less than 15 km/h.

These are signs that the throttle valve is dirty. To check the throttle valve, it must be removed. After checking, it is recommended to flush the throttle valve.

Checking the serviceability of the position sensor

The throttle position sensor (TPS) transmits operational information about the position of the throttle valve to the control unit, which promptly changes the amount of fuel supplied. It is necessary to check the throttle valve for serviceability of the position sensor in the following cases:

  • when the idle speed increases unreasonably,
  • When the transmission is engaged in neutral, the engine stops,
  • There are a series of jerks during acceleration.

To monitor the condition of the sensor, the voltage between the slider contact and the vehicle ground is measured. In the “Closed” position, the voltmeter reading will record 0.7 volts, in the “Fully Open” position – 4 V. The indicated voltages may be different for sensors of different models; their values must be determined from the reference book.

The second stage of control is to measure the resistance between the slider contact and the other terminal of the TPS. In this case, the main sign of its serviceability is that when the sector is slowly rotated, a smooth change in resistance occurs.

If jumps appear, the throttle sensors will definitely need to be replaced.

Testing an electronically controlled throttle body is more difficult. In this case, it is important to check as thoroughly as possible the serviceability of the sensor and the smooth movement of the transfer lever, the functionality of the remote control drive regulator, etc. This work should be entrusted to qualified specialists who know a lot about repairing electronic systems. It is better to combine this with the repair of engine control units.

How to properly adjust the throttle

Throttle adjustment is required when engine speed decreases. Carrying out this work requires special tools. It is recommended to do the setup not independently, but in a professional car service. A technician should adjust the throttle valve as follows:

  • The throttle speed must not be adjusted by tightening the screw;
  • When starting to work with the throttle valve, you need to check and, if necessary, replace the air filter;
  • then the condition of the spark plugs and wires is assessed;
  • inspect and clean the air duct;
  • the damper is completely treated with a special cleaning aerosol;
  • using a tachometer, engine speed is measured;
  • The electronic damper regulator is being debugged; if this does not help, the bimetallic regulator is adjusted;
  • The revolutions are measured again; if their frequency does not correspond to the required indicators, then a complete adaptation of the throttle valve is carried out exactly as instructed in the instructions.

Throttle training - the essence and subtleties of the operation

The importance of the throttle valve adaptation procedure can hardly be underestimated, and not every car enthusiast knows how to perform this operation on their own.

  • Sheinin: “I speak for myself, anyone can cure prostatitis, take the proven Prost...”

When the throttle assembly of any modern vehicle operates, a lot of contaminants in the form of dust, soot, and oil gradually accumulate on the surface of the throttle.

They form a layer of dirt, which makes the air gap between the damper and the car's air duct smaller than the established norm.

This gap is important for the normal functioning of the “heart” of the car, since thanks to it the idle speed is maintained at the required level.

  • They will protect the chassis and save you money, increasing ground clearance by 3 cm.

When it decreases, the vehicle's electronic control unit (car computer) slightly opens the damper by introducing coefficients that take into account changes in its cross-section.

Up to a certain point, the ECU manages to maintain the air gap at a constant level, but sooner or later the throttle valve will still have to be cleaned of dirt.

After flushing this unit, the engine speed will certainly increase due to the fact that the cross-section of the throttle, freed from the contaminant layer, will become larger.

The need for such an operation, which involves bringing high idle speeds to a standard value, arises not only after flushing the throttle assembly, but also in other cases, in particular in the following:

  • after the vehicle battery is completely discharged;
  • after replacing or removing the accelerator pedal;
  • after replacing or reconnecting the vehicle's electronic control unit.

Undoubted signs indicating that the damper needs to be trained immediately are the following phenomena:

  • whistling when revving;
  • inadequate behavior of the engine at idle;
  • lack of power at idle or failures.

Before starting training, a number of prerequisites must be met:

  • travel by car for 10 minutes;
  • ensure that the battery voltage at idle is at least 12.9 V;
  • warm up the gearbox;
  • The wheels of the vehicle must be straight, the steering wheel must be in the middle position;
  • engine temperature – 70–95 °C;
  • all devices that put a load on the car’s electrical network (heated windows, headlights, etc.) should be turned off;
  • The automatic transmission selector is set to N or P.

It is advisable to adapt these devices before you teach idle speed. If the cable of the sensor that sends the signal about the accelerator pedal position is disconnected, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Release the pedal completely.
  2. Turn the ignition key to “ON” and wait at least two seconds;
  3. Turn off the ignition, wait 10 seconds;
  4. Repeat the procedure according to point 2, and then according to point 3.

The described procedure (you must admit, it’s not at all complicated) will teach the damper to open correctly. But to adapt the valve to the “Closed” position, the following operations should be performed:

  1. Release (fully) the accelerator pedal.
  2. Place the key in the “ON” position.
  3. Switch the ignition to “OFF” and wait 10 seconds.
  4. We make sure that the valve lever moves within 10 seconds (a characteristic sound indicates that there is movement).

Now you can proceed directly to learning the idle speed, “armed” with a stopwatch and a little bit of patience. The procedure is performed like this:

  • The engine starts and warms up to standard operating temperature.
  • The ignition is turned off and no action is performed for 10 seconds.
  • The ignition turns on (the accelerator pedal is in the released position), wait 3 seconds.
  • The following actions are performed five times in a row: the accelerator pedal is fully depressed and fully released.
  • After 7 seconds, the pedal is pressed again (fully) and maintained in this state for 20 seconds.
  • The pedal is released completely (and without delay) at the moment when the malfunction indicator on the panel stops flashing (it should be lit steadily).
  • Then immediately, without touching the accelerator pedal, you need to start the engine so that it can idle.
  • We wait about 20 seconds.

After all the announced actions, we accelerate the engine (2-3 times) and make sure that the ignition timing and idle speed standards comply with the standards. At this point, the damper adaptation procedure can be considered complete.

Throttle adjustment

Position adjustment

1 Turn the adjusting screw so that the damper is completely closed.

2 Insert a 0.1 mm thick feeler gauge between and the inner surface of the housing

3 Turn the adjusting screw so that the feeler gauge fits into the gap with some friction.

4 Remove the dipstick. The damper should remain slightly open to prevent it from sticking when closed.

Idle speed adjustment and CO content

1 Check the OZ.

2 Check the adjustment of the throttle position sensors.

3 Make sure that the KSXX is working properly

4 Executions “Preliminary preparation”

5 Check the idle speed. No adjustment possible. However, it is possible to adjust its basic setting.

6 Check the CO content in the exhaust gases.

ADJUSTMENT OF CO AND RPM XX (systems with 25- and 38-pin connectors)

Note: On systems with 45- and 68-pin connectors, XX RPM and CO adjustments are not possible.

7 Connect a gas analyzer to the exhaust pipe.

8 Disconnect the ventilation hose from the valve drive cover and plug the hose hole.

9 Start the engine and let it run at idle for about a minute.

10 Disconnect the connector from the DTOZH. Transferring the ECU to maintenance mode.

11 Accelerate three times so that the speed is above 3000 rpm.

12 Reduce speed about XX.

13 Use the appropriate screws to adjust the idle speed and CO content.

14 After setting both parameters, connect the DTOZH connector.

15 Accelerate three times so that the speed is above 3000 rpm.

16 Reduce speed about XX.

17 Check the value of the adjusted parameters, if necessary, repeat the adjustment.

18 Connect the ventilation hose and make sure that the control system adjustment has not changed

Now a little about misconceptions:

In general, this talks about checking the operation of the ignition timing system.

(I saw this device live)

For specialists from services:

Position 1, see figure - this is a non-contact crankshaft position sensor, inserted into the window of the gearbox housing.

Position 2, see drawing, terminal on the motor housing.

Slowly rev up the engine (with the gas pedal while sitting in the driver's seat) about 2800 rpm, while the ignition timing (THE DEVICE WILL SHOW!!!!) should be 35-45 degrees.

The most important thing is not to try to turn the distributor housing while the engine is running; this is not a “basin” for you.

Throttle valve: purpose, cleaning, design

What is a throttle valve (TZ)? This unit is a structural element of the fuel supply system (gasoline power unit). It regulates air flows, with the subsequent formation of a fuel-air mixture. The throttle is located between the intake air filter and the intake manifold. DZ plays a key role in providing the engine with fuel.

The throttle is a kind of valve that regulates the supply of fuel to the combustion chamber by changing the pressure of the incoming masses (air, fuel).

The principle of operation is that when the throttle valve is opened, the pressure rises to atmospheric level, while when it is closed, a vacuum is formed.

Thus, a small opening angle of the throttle valve corresponds to low engine speeds. The remote control is connected to the vacuum booster of the brake system and regulates its operation.

Design

The throttle valve is a round plate. It is capable of rotating within 90 degrees around its axis, alternating with cycles of opening/closing flows. Located in a housing that includes:

  • drive mechanism (automatic (electrical)/analogue (mechanical) operating principle);
  • DZ potentiometer (its position sensor);
  • Рхх (idle speed regulator).

The throttle valve assembly/block consists of these elements.

The DZ housing itself has a complex structure due to its inclusion in the engine cooling system. The principle of operation of the throttle assembly: it opens the channels that are intended for coolant. The housing has special pipes that interact with the ventilation and fuel vapor identification system.

Рхх (idle speed regulator)

By means of the IAC, the rotating frequency of the crankshaft is maintained at a constant level when the throttle valve is completely closed. This is necessary to stabilize the speed when connecting additional equipment (fan, on-board electronics) - when the load on the power unit increases or it overheats.

Idle air control device:

  • frame;
  • cone needle. When the power plant is idling, the needle adjusts the cross-sectional area of the channel through which air flows.

Drive mechanism

Varieties:

  • analog (mechanical). It has a primitive design and interacts with the accelerator pedal via a steel cable;
  • automatic (electrics). The electronic throttle valve eliminates direct interaction with the accelerator. Feedback occurs through the operation of the throttle potentiometer: it sends signals to the ECU, and the controller sends signals to the remote control.

Potentiometer

The potentiometer regulates the angle of movement of the throttle valve relative to its axis (opens/closes it). The closed state of the valve corresponds to a voltage not exceeding 0.7 V. Open - up to 4 V. The potentiometer is a key link in the process of supplying fuel to the combustion chamber and regulates its quantity.

Malfunctions

Violation of the interaction between the throttle valve and its position sensor is fraught with:

  • floating speed of the power unit during engine operation;
  • increased idle speed;
  • the engine stops (stalls) when the gear is engaged in neutral;
  • high fuel consumption (depending on the angle at which the valve is jammed);
  • inadequate disclosure of the engine's power potential.

Trouble-shooting

For diagnostics, it is necessary to check the entire assembly, as well as its attachment points. The procedure is as follows:

  • Contamination of the remote control can be one of the reasons for the incorrect operation of the internal combustion engine; remove the “-“ terminal from the battery;
  • the coolant pipe is removed and secured so as to lose as little antifreeze as possible;
  • move away the hoses adjacent to the throttle assembly;
  • remove the remote control drive cable;
  • clean the potentiometer by removing the pads and idle speed control;
  • dismantle the remote control unit;
  • determine the condition of the remote control gasket and other elements of the block;
  • if damage/wear is present, it is necessary to replace the remote control unit;
  • After eliminating the cause of the malfunction, everything is assembled in the reverse sequence.

After installing the unit back, the cooling system is checked for leaks when pouring the appropriate liquid - there should be no leaks or drops.

Adjustment of remote sensing

For correct/proper operation of the throttle valve, periodic adjustment of its sensor is required. The procedure is as follows:

  1. Turn off the ignition (the remote control valve closes).
  2. Remove the wiring from the sensor connector.
  3. The sensor is adjusted using a feeler gauge (0.4 mm), which is inserted into the gap between the lever and the screw.

The serviceability of the sensor is diagnosed by the voltage level (use an ohmmeter). It must correspond to those specified in the repair instructions. If there is too much voltage, the sensor needs to be changed, if not (impossibility to bring it to the required level), then further adjustment/replacement.

To do this, you need to rotate the valve until the required norms appear. After adjustment, check the tightness of the bots and nuts (they may come loose) - they must be well secured.

Cleaning

Cleaning the internal combustion chamber from dirt, dust and other deposits contributes to the correct operation of the power unit and improves the quality of the fuel-air mixture supplied to the combustion chamber. A clean unit guarantees moderate fuel consumption, good car dynamics and its environmental friendliness.

Methods

Carburetor or brake cleaners are best suited for this task.

The most accessible and effective is cleaning using appropriate means (aerosol cans).

Actions

  1. Unhook the pipe from the air filter and from the DZ housing.
  2. Start the engine. It is recommended to do this “cold” (unheated power unit) - see footnote below.
  3. Direct the jet from the can onto the DZ body. It is unacceptable to pollinate the block abundantly, as this can cause the engine to stop. It is necessary to apply the cleaning agent smoothly and gradually until the dirt is completely removed.

An unheated power unit activates the system of increased idle speeds (warm-up).

When the engine is hot (operating temperature), this system (valves, channels are closed) is inactive, which does not allow additional air masses to enter.

Therefore, cleaning on a cold engine washes out these channels/valves. When the engine is warm, all the dirt being cleaned settles into these channels, which will subsequently lead to their contamination and incorrect operation of the power unit.

What causes the DZ to become clogged?

  1. Crankcase ventilation system. Normal operation of the system is characterized by the fact that gases flow through the valve to the intake system, bypassing the throttle body. Contamination of the ventilation system valve (PCV) puts the engine into emergency operation. Crankcase gases, coupled with oil dust, accumulate in front of the diesel protection, clogging the channels adjacent to it.
  2. Reverse combustion system for remaining gases (exhaust). Good combustion of the mixture contributes to its cyclic purification and subsequent entry into the intake system. It is necessary to periodically diagnose the intake/fuel system, spark plugs and lambda probe. The correct functioning of these elements guarantees minimal contamination of the remote control.

Throttle valve - purpose, principle of operation on a carburetor and injector

For any internal combustion engine to operate efficiently, it is necessary to ensure the correct ratio of fuel and air. But, the requirements for the air-fuel mixture ratio of a gasoline engine are many times higher than for a diesel engine.

Therefore, in gasoline engines it is necessary to simultaneously regulate the supply of air and fuel, while in diesel engines it is enough to change the amount of fuel.

The throttle valve regulates the amount of air that enters the cylinders.

What is a throttle valve?

The throttle valve is part of the intake system of internal combustion engines, which is designed to regulate the air supply, further creating the air-fuel mixture. This damper is mounted in the space between the intake manifold and the air filter.

The throttle valve acts as an air valve. As soon as it opens, the pressure created in the intake system becomes equal to atmospheric pressure, and when it closes, the pressure decreases to the degree of vacuum.

There are two types of damper drive: mechanical and electric.

Design and diagram of a mechanically driven throttle valve

  1. coolant supply pipe;
  2. crankcase ventilation system pipe;
  3. coolant outlet pipe;
  4. throttle position sensor;
  5. idle air control;
  6. gasoline vapor recovery system pipe;
  7. throttle valve.

This method of regulating air supply is used on carburetor cars. The throttle valve and gas pedal are closely connected, made in the form of a metal cable.

All elements of the damper are a single unit, which includes: an idle speed controller, a throttle position sensor, a damper mounted on a special shaft and a housing.

The housing has separate pipes for circulating the cooling system, which is connected to the car's engine cooling system. Also, a built-in crankcase ventilation and gasoline vapor recovery system.

The idle speed regulator ensures uniform rotation of the crankshaft while the engine is starting and warming up, while the throttle valve is closed. The regulator includes a stepper motor and a special valve. They regulate the amount of incoming air regardless of the throttle position.

Throttle valve in carburetor

Fuel dosing in the carburetor is based on the Venturi effect - a flow with low density but high speed carries along denser particles.

While the engine is idling, the filling of the cylinders with the air-fuel mixture is minimal.

The movement of air through the gap between the damper and the carburetor body carries fuel from the float chamber.

The fuel jet limits the amount of gasoline that reaches the throttle body and mixes with air.

When the driver presses the gas pedal, the resistance to air movement decreases, the speed increases, this leads to an increase in the influence of the Venturi effect.

Thanks to this design, the carburetor provides an equal air-fuel mixture ratio at any throttle position.

In single injection

The design of a mono injection is similar to a carburetor - the air-fuel mixture is formed in the mixing chamber. Unlike a carburetor, the mixture composition is controlled electronically. The throttle valve regulates the amount of air that enters the cylinders.

Mass air flow (MAF), throttle position (TPP) and crankshaft position (CPPV) sensors provide the controller with all the necessary information to calculate the amount of fuel.

At the command of the controller, an electrically controlled nozzle injects the required amount of fuel, which, when mixed with air, forms an air-fuel mixture.

In the injector

The injector uses the same fuel control method as single injection. The difference is that the air-fuel mixture is formed in the intake manifold (injection systems) or directly in the cylinder (direct injection systems). The throttle valve in injection engines regulates the amount of air in the same way as in carburetor or single-injection engines.

Electric damper

Currently, cars are equipped with a throttle valve with a built-in electric motor. This allows you to achieve the lowest fuel consumption and make driving safe and environmentally friendly.

Among the features of the electric damper, one can note the complete absence of a mechanical connection between the throttle and the gas pedal, since instead of a cable there is now an electronic control unit. In addition, idle speed adjustment is performed only by the throttle valve.

The electronic unit itself selects the crankshaft speed without driver intervention in any engine operating mode.

How to adjust the throttle? – Automotoguru

Heading

An analogue of a modern car is a device made up of many components and assemblies. Deviations in the operation of the smallest component can lead to quite serious problems. The throttle position sensor (TPS) is one example of this type of component. And adjusting the throttle valve is an integral element of routine diagnostics of any car.

The throttle valve is presented in the form of an air valve, the functional task of which is to regulate the amount of air entering the engine. The fundamental features of the unit include a change in the cross-section of the air channel. When it is open, air flows smoothly through the intake manifold.

The throttle position sensor, located here, determines the opening angle. This function is carried out through its communication with the engine control unit. The signals coming from the sensor contribute to the issuance of a command from the control unit to increase the amount of injected combustible mixture.

Thus, the working mixture is enriched, and the engine operates closer to maximum speed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuyQNec6FXc

Its sensor includes two types of resistors:

  • Single-turn constant.
  • Variable.

The sum of their resistance is approximately 8 kOhm. The reference voltage here is supplied to one of the outer terminals from the controller, and the second terminal is connected to ground. Thanks to this, a signal is sent to the controller, informing about the current position of the throttle valve. The value of the pulse voltage depends on the position level of the element, the standard interval of which is 0.7 to 4 W.

Important: the open state of the unit indicates the pressure level in the intake system of the vehicle is similar to atmospheric pressure; when closed, this value decreases to the vacuum state.

Type diversity

Everyone knows two types of TPS:

  1. Sample with a mechanical drive type.
  2. Unit with electric drive type.

Throttle position sensor

The first type is being introduced in economy class vehicles. The complete set of elements is combined in a separate block, which includes the following parts:

  • frame;
  • throttle valve;
  • sensor;
  • idle speed controller.

The damper housing is part of the cooling system. The functional task of the idle speed controller is to maintain the crankshaft speed in the closed position of the damper when starting or warming up the engine. The IAC is a stepper motor and valve. The functional tasks of these parts are to regulate the air supply entering the intake system bypass.

In modern conditions, most manufacturing plants equip machines with electric-type dampers. These elements are characterized by their own electronic control system.

Thus, the optimal amount of torque is ensured at all speed ranges and loads of the machine.

In addition to increased power and dynamics, owners receive a reduction in fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.

This element includes the following mechanisms:

  • Frame.
  • Throttle valve.
  • Electric motor.
  • Gearbox.
  • Throttle position sensor.
  • Return spring mechanism.

TPDZ

Differences between the electric damper type

Main functional differences:

  • Lack of mechanical connection between the gas pedal and the throttle;
  • Adjustment of XX by direct movement of the damper.
  • The electronic system is able to independently influence the amount of torque of the internal combustion engine. This is possible due to the absence of a rigid connection between the gas pedal and the throttle valve. This condition persists even when the driver presses the accelerator.

Such functional changes are possible thanks to the operation of input-type sensors of the control unit and the actuator.

This electronic control system device is additionally characterized by an accelerator pedal position sensor and a brake and clutch position switch.

Thanks to all this, the engine control unit successfully responds to sensor signals, converting them to the damper module into control actions.

Alternative replacement

Sometimes there are cars with parallel installation of 2 TPS. In a functional sense, such installation will not add any power, but if one unit fails, the second one will operate uninterruptedly.

Therefore, the introduction of two TPS is carried out in order to increase the reliability of the module. These elements can be either non-contact type or sliding contact type.

As an addition, this module design includes an emergency damper position, which operates thanks to a return spring mechanism.

Nature of faults

Malfunctions or incorrect adjustment of the damper can be manifested in the following features:

  • uncertain or difficult engine starting;
  • increased fuel consumption;
  • increased idle speed;
  • failures when accelerating;
  • Jerking when switching.

Adjustment work

It is the damper that accounts for the bulk of the work. Due to the fact that the damper is constantly involved in the moving operation of the motor, its position angle requires periodic adjustment.

Please note that this process is quite painstaking. You cannot avoid replacing the throttle valve if its adjustment leads to any deviations.

In order to avoid such incidents during replacement, we will consider in detail the details of correct throttle valve adjustment.

First, turn off the ignition to bring the throttle valve to the closed position. Secondly, disconnect the connector in the sensor, simultaneously checking for continuity between the terminals. Make sure there is no voltage.

Then you can begin to configure and adjust the sensor. After this, you need to resort to using a 0.4 mm thick probe.

It is used by placing it between the lever and the screw in parallel with the location of the throttle body gasket.

Using an ohmmeter (you can use another similar device), you need to make sure that there is no voltage here either. The presence of voltage indicates a malfunction of the sensor and its need for further replacement.

If the condition of no voltage is met, we proceed to direct adjustment of the sensor. The manipulations are as follows: turn the throttle valve actuator until the angle between the terminals reaches a value equal to the technical standards of the existing vehicle.

Upon completion of work, make sure that the screws on the sensor are securely tightened. During the adjustment process they could become loose.

How to clean and adjust the injector throttle valve

How to clean the injector throttle valve

The injector throttle valve (IZ) is an essential component of the starting system for gasoline power units, which is designed to regulate the volume of air flowing into the engine. The need to clean it does not arise often, but it is worth knowing how to clean the injector throttle valve, because this can happen at any time on a used car.

Symptoms of remote sensing contamination

ATTENTION! A completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption has been found! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also didn’t believe it until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline! Read more"

Typically, symptoms of damper contamination include the following:

  • the power plant speed drops and freezes, a complete engine stop is possible;
  • while driving, the engine functions unstably and unevenly;
  • in XX mode the speed fluctuates;
  • starting the engine becomes more difficult for no reason.

One of the main signs of a dirty valve is poor traction at low speeds. In addition, the car jerks while moving, especially when accelerating. Why is this happening?

How does the remote control become contaminated?

Cleaning the injector throttle valve

A lot of all kinds of deposits accumulate on the walls of the damper, which block the passage of air at small opening angles of the remote control. Obviously, this was not initially provided by the manufacturer.

Engineers calculated the dynamics of the car based on normal indicators, for pure remote sensing, as they say. For this reason, as soon as the damper becomes dirty, traction begins to fail.

After proper cleaning, all processes are improved, including fuel consumption.

It will be useful to know that the main source of contamination of the remote control is the filtration (operation) of the crankcase. On older engines, oil deposits come out of the crankcase. The steam settles and cools, turning into deposits.

Do I need to check the remote control often? Yes, if the car is used, definitely. This must be done every time you service the power unit. If traces of carbon deposits are visible on the valve, as in the photo, it is necessary to urgently begin the procedure for cleaning the throttle valve.

If the car has a remote control and IAC, then the sensor also needs to be thoroughly washed.

What is throttle adaptation or learning

DZ can be washed at home, although this largely depends on the car model. For example, if the car has a cable-operated, mechanical gas pedal (standard), you can safely start cleaning. Not at all, if an electronic throttle is installed, the situation changes. Adaptation may be needed.

The adaptation is reset either from the scanner or forcibly when the accelerator pedal is simply pressed all the way and the accelerator pedal is lowered when the internal combustion engine is standing. Adaptation is nothing more than a decrease in throttle angle (throttle opening angle). Often, after flushing the electronic throttle, the throttle valve opens more than necessary.

How to adjust the throttle

There are people who claim that after several tens of kilometers the remote sensing system automatically adapts, but this is not so. There have been cases when, even after 200 km, the car remained at floating speed. They instantly disappeared after forced adaptation.

Here's how training (adaptation) is carried out:

  • the battery current is checked, which should be within 12.9 volts (with the engine standing);
  • the temperature of the antifreeze is checked (should be 70-99°);
  • the gearbox must be thoroughly warmed up and the steering wheel must be in neutral;
  • The car should be placed on a level surface, all consumers should be turned off.

After that:

  • start the engine and count to five;
  • then quickly press the gas pedal all the way and release (repeat 5 times);
  • After that, count to seven, and then press the accelerator pedal all the way and hold it until the Check indicator starts flashing;
  • release the pedal after this, counting to three;
  • start the engine again if it stalls and count to twenty;
  • give gas and check that the speed automatically returns to standard in idle mode.

DIY cleaning

How do you clean the throttle valve on the injector? The easiest way is to use carburetor cleaner. The throttle body opens forcibly, and the liquid from the carburetor washes away all the dirt from the inside. You can also clean it with a piece of soft cloth.

If the DZ is removed, then you can clean it with anything: solvent, brush. The main thing is not to use harsh abrasive compounds or sharp, rough objects.

How to clean the injector valve

When using carburetor cleaner in an aerosol can, it is recommended to wear glasses. The liquid is under pressure; when washed, it scatters in all directions and can get into the eyes.

It is not at all necessary to remove the remote control. Cleaning can be done by car, although washing and removal gives a much more effective result. In addition, cleaning without removal is impossible if an XX sensor is installed on the machine and it is connected to the damper.

In practice, washing the protective gear without removing it is quite sufficient. There are also advantages to this procedure: there is no risk of breaking the sealing seal, which is located between the VC (manifold) and the damper, you can clean it on a hot engine, there is no risk of being scalded with hot antifreeze, etc.

If you decide to clean the remote control by removing it, you must remember to bleed the air. To do this, unscrew the cap of the antifreeze tank.

A few important final recommendations.

  1. Do not use excessive force when cleaning the ESD, even if you have a soft cloth or rags in your hands. The damper material is very sensitive, because it is coated with molybdenum for smoother passage of air, in addition, the TPS (sensor) can be easily damaged.
  2. Clean the damper only when really necessary.
  3. It is better to use soft cloths for cleaning, but not brushes. Even with soft bristles, they can easily remove molybdenum along with plaque.
