Subcategory B1

These licenses are intended for persons wishing to “race” tricycles and quadricycles. "Quadricycle" should not be confused with "quad bike". Therefore, different driving documents are needed.

A quadricycle is a motorcycle with 4 wheels and has the following design features:

developing a minimum speed of up to 25 km/h;
the highest engine power is 15 kW;
weight with luggage – up to 400 kg (for models intended for carrying luggage – up to 500 kg).

A tricycle is a vehicle on three wheels (trikes, cars, bicycles).

Category B1 licenses are issued to drivers from 18 years of age, but you will have to “sweat” in studying for 4 months.

Subcategory BE

If the car has a heavy trailer, then a driving document of subcategory BE will be required. It refers to a machine with the following parameters:

a car with a heavy “cart”, the mass of which is lighter than 750 kg and exceeds the mass of the car itself without load;
a car with a trailer whose weight is less than 750 kg, and the permitted final weight of the entire structure is more than 3.5 tons.

Category C: trucks of all types

These are trucks of varying weights (excluding category D vehicles). These include:

Subcategory CE

Subcategory C1

Subcategory C1E

Category D: buses

Subcategory DE

Subcategory D1

These are minibuses with seats ranging from 9 to 16 (including the driver's seat), as well as D1 vehicles with a trailer lighter than 750 kg.

Subcategory D1E

If D1 vehicles have a heavy “cart” (more than 750 kg), which is in no way suitable for transporting fellow travelers, then category D1E will be needed. At the same time, the total permissible weight of such a bus with a “trailer” is up to 12 tons.

Category M

This includes various mopeds and quadricycles (light). This category was introduced only in 2013. Its trick is that these funds can be managed by persons who do not have category M, but who have other rights.

Category Tm and Tb

Previously, trolleybuses and trams did not represent a separate caste. They were indicated by special marks in the document. Now they have been assigned separate categories.

B (BE, B1)

This is a category of rights to a passenger car, the total weight of which, when fully equipped, does not exceed three and a half thousand kilograms. The number of seats in such vehicles should not be more than eight, that is, all passenger cars can be immediately assigned to this classification. There are several nuances that would not hurt to know.

Category B makes it possible to drive a car with a trailer that weighs 750 kilograms or more, but only if the total weight is no more than 3,500 kilograms.
This classification includes all passenger cars and light trucks.
This also includes jeeps and small minibuses with no more than eight seats.

In order to attach a heavier trailer to a vehicle, you will have to receive a new category - BE. This requires special, separate training, therefore, having a driving license with classification B, driving a car with a trailer weighing more than 750 kilograms is prohibited.

IN 1

Another subcategory B1 denotes quadricycles and tricycles. This is an absolute innovation, because many have not yet even figured out that we are not talking about ATVs, which are a motorcycle on four wheels.

A quadricycle has a body like a car, but its motor power is no more than 15 kilowatts (20 horsepower). Moreover, such a vehicle can reach a speed of no more than 25-50 kilometers per hour.

So, contrary to expectations, the motorcycle license (A, A1) will be completely useless here.

C (CE, C1, C1E)

This category includes all cars with a total weight exceeding 3.5 tons, with the exception of those that belong to subcategory D, which will be discussed later. In fact, all trucks weighing from 3.5 to 7 can be included here.

Subcategory C1 includes medium-sized trucks, the weight of which ranges from 3.5 to 7.5 tons, even with a light trailer (up to 750 kilograms). It is permissible to drive a car of this type, even if you just have a category C license.

C1E

If you need to drive light and medium-sized trucks with a heavy trailer, you will need a C1E license. However, here you will have to strictly ensure that the total weight of the structure (car with trailer) does not exceed twelve tons. There is nothing to do here with a regular truck license, but the senior CE category is suitable for driving such vehicles.

D (DE, D1, D1E)

A driver's license of this category is suitable for driving a variety of buses, the number of passenger seats in which exceeds the standard eight, as for B (excluding the driver).

It will be valid both for tiny minibuses with twelve seats, and for huge tourist “monsters” with two floors.

However, driving buses with an accordion or articulated with each other is prohibited with such qualifications.

D1E

This is a special qualification for small buses equipped with heavy trailers, the weight of which is not minimal (from 750 kilograms), but does not exceed the weight of the vehicle itself. The total weight of such a structure should not exceed 12 tons.

Please note that the trailer in this case cannot be intended for transporting passengers, but only for cargo, for example, luggage. It won’t hurt to know that if you have a D license, you can drive vehicles belonging to D1, and having a DE will allow you to drive D1E buses.

E

M

At what age can you drive?

The more complex the transport, the more stringent the driver age requirements imposed by the state:

from the age of 16 you are allowed to drive a vehicle of category M and A1;
reaching 18 years of age is a prerequisite for admission to taking tests to obtain licenses in categories A, B1, C1 and when issuing licenses marked B and C;
at the same time, the threshold at which age one can study for license B and C has been reduced to 17 years;

What driving categories are there?

BE is an additional type for driving vehicles from category B, equipped with an additional trailer weighing more than 750 kg.

CE - almost similar to the previous category. Only in this case is it permitted to drive a vehicle from category C and a trailer weighing from 750 to 3500 kg.

Subcategories of driving license

What does it take to open a new category?

Categories of new driver's licenses 2014

The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Russian Federation has begun issuing a new type of certificate. Amendments to the Law of the Russian Federation “On Road Safety” were considered and adopted in the fall of 2013, and now, from 04/01/2014, instead of the usual five categories, motorists can take exams for ten, with six subcategories.

Driver's license categories

First of all, it is necessary to remember the categories that have not been changed:

A – motorcycles;

C – vehicles weighing more than 3500 kg;

Instead of category E, the new driver's license now has several subcategories that differ according to the type of vehicle being driven:

CE – category C vehicles with a towbar weighing at least 750 kg;
DE – vehicle category D, with a towed trailer weighing less than 750 kg;
C1E – road train of category C or C1 with a total weight of less than 12,000 kg;

New driving license categories for two and three wheelers

New driver's license 2014: what holders of old licenses need to know

Drivers who have an old type of driver's license can drive vehicles of the category specified in the current license, as well as subcategories corresponding to the new licenses. To operate vehicles within open categories and subcategories, there is no need to pass an exam or undergo additional training.

Drivers with open category A on their license can also drive ATVs and motorcycles of subcategory A1 and B1, and with open category B they can drive car-type ATVs of subcategory B1.

If the driver has an authorized category C on his old driver's license, then in addition to standard cars weighing more than 3500 kg, he can drive a pickup truck or other vehicle that corresponds to subcategory C1.

The driver of buses of category D automatically receives the right to drive small buses, which are marked with subcategory D1.

For the first time in the entire history of the existence of domestic driving schools, starting from April 1, the new license will indicate in which car the driving school student was trained with which transmission.

If it was an automatic transmission, the new license will contain a mark that grants the right to drive a vehicle only with the specified gearbox.

Persons who have undergone training in a car with a manual transmission get the opportunity to drive cars with both a manual transmission and an automatic transmission.

It should be noted that passing exams for the right to receive any of the subcategories will be easier than passing for a full category.

Amendments to the Law of the Russian Federation indicate that there is no need to exchange old-style driver’s licenses for new 2014 driver’s licenses. Old rights are valid until the period specified in them. If you want to exchange your old certificate for a new one for any reason, passing exams or passing commissions is not required.
