Gas or gasoline: pros and cons

Gas or gasoline? Pros and cons — DRIVE2

Gas or gasoline: pros and cons

1

Today we will talk about gas and gasoline and what is better for the engine.

Considering that gasoline prices are constantly rising, many motorists are already starting to think about converting their car to gas.

And indeed, some enjoy this privilege, and it has been available for more than ten years.

But there are still myths and disputes that contradict each other.

Let's figure out what pros and cons will await the driver if he starts refueling with gas?

Gas - advantages

The undoubted advantages of such a translation.

Price.

Quite low compared to gasoline. Gas is more than 30% cheaper than gasoline.

Even if the car consumes gas 30% more than gasoline and if you add the cost of installing equipment, you will still be able to recoup all costs in a few years.

2

This option is especially good for those who drive very often. The consumption of this fuel can be reduced.

Only professionals do this.
They regulate gas equipment. Exhaust.

With gas, the exhaust is the least toxic. It is, of course, cleaner than gasoline, three times cleaner. And therefore less damage to the environment.

Engine safety.

It wears out less in this case because the engine runs quieter and softer.

When gas fuel burns, much less ash, as well as particulate matter and soot, will be produced.

3

Thanks to all this, the cylinders and pistons will last much longer. And also, you will no longer need to pay a lot of money for expensive cleaning or decarbonization of the engine.

Oil saving.

Engine oil will not deteriorate as quickly, so you will need to change it much less often.
No need for frequent refueling. Your car's mileage will increase several times without refueling, because you will be using two fuel systems.

4

There will be no detonation.

There is no detonation of gas cylinders, because the safety valve located on the cylinder will operate.

If an accident occurs, the propane will evaporate and thus escape, rather than spreading out in a dangerous puddle like gasoline.

5

Prevents theft.

Such an installation can also prevent theft. If the switch is removed, it will block both fuel systems.

Gas - cons

Now about the cons.

Space in the trunk.

Such a cylinder takes up a large amount of space in the trunk.

6

Unpleasant smell right in the cabin.

To eliminate this smell, the condensate from the gearbox must be drained. After this, throw away the used rags.

Consumption.

Gas has more than gasoline, which means you will obviously save not 30%, but less.

True, the higher the generation of gas equipment, the smaller this gap, since gas consumption approaches gasoline consumption, and this is good news.

In winter, when there is frost, difficulties arise.

After being idle, it is very difficult to start such an engine. To avoid trouble, park your car in a paid parking lot, which is certainly warm.

Or if this is not possible, then start the engine on gasoline first, and then switch to gas.

Installation cost.

Installing gas equipment is not a cheap undertaking; in addition to the work, you will have to pay quite a bit of money for the kit itself, especially if it is a fifth or sixth generation gas equipment.

7

Efficiency.

The most effective gas equipment are the latest generations, the fifth and sixth. Less effective, but the most common and relatively inexpensive, are 4th generation HBO.

Gas cylinder equipment of the 3rd generation is transitional between the 2nd and 4th generation and is now rarely used; of all the above mentioned gas equipment, it is the least effective.

It was mounted on the first injection machines, and, as a rule, it was installed independently. To summarize

Which is better gas or gasoline is an eternal sore point among motorists. On one side of the scale there are: cheaper gas, less toxic emissions, greater engine safety and less oil consumption.

On the other hand, you need to understand that gas consumption is higher than gasoline, and therefore the payback on the purchase and installation of gas equipment will take even more time and will take more than one month or year, everything will depend on how much time you spend behind the wheel.

Gas or gasoline

Today I want to talk about two popular types of fuel - gas and gasoline. Which one to choose? Which is better, cheaper and causes fewer problems? Let's think...

Let's start with gasoline

Gasoline is a fuel obtained by distilling oil. There are high-octane and low-octane formulations, it depends on the production. Partial information can be found here. This is the most common fuel for ICE (Internal Combustion Engine). It has a number of pros and cons.

Pros:

1) Widespread - there will be no problems with purchasing and refueling in any city in Russia.

2) Gasoline engines are 100% tuned to gasoline. That is, this is the first type of fuel, and then all the others.

3) This is liquid fuel - when creating a fuel mixture, less of it is required than the opponent. Therefore the consumption is much less.

4) Also, the engine power when refueling is much higher.

5) Has a partial ability to lubricate the cylinders internally, during injection, before ignition.

Minuses:

1) Contains additives that can negatively affect the vehicle’s fuel system. Moreover, in our country no one controls the quality of fuel.

2) Well, perhaps the biggest disadvantage is its price. Inappropriately overpriced in our country.

Now in our article - gas is coming

GAS - usually propane - butane, less often methane. A gaseous substance obtained from associated petroleum gas or during oil refining. That is, for oil producers it is practically a by-product. They sell us something that is practically unnecessary in the production of oil. Moreover, they want a hell of a lot of money.

pros

1) Perhaps the biggest plus is the price. Sometimes it costs up to 2.5 times cheaper than your opponent.

This is where the advantages, perhaps, end. Further in our article, I will list the disadvantages, oh, there are quite a few of them.

Minuses

1) This is the need to install expensive equipment. A gas cylinder is also installed, which hides useful space inside the cabin or trunk.

2) When installing gas equipment, you cannot completely abandon gasoline. In the morning you need to start it anyway; you simply won’t start it on gas, especially in winter.

3) It’s not so easy to find; there are much fewer gas stations in the city. All this is because it is volatile and flammable; such gas stations cannot be built near a residential area. They are usually built outside the city limits. Therefore, getting to them is not so convenient.

4) Much more dangerous, any leak can be a big problem (ignition, explosion). Therefore, the equipment needs an eye, yes an eye.

5) There is no such agility as on gasoline, gas is not as dense as liquid fuel.

6) There is also no lubrication inside the cylinders during fuel injection, so an engine running on gas will last less than one running on gasoline.

7) The consumption is much higher, sometimes by 30 - 40%.

8) Inside the hood space, what can I say, it’s not crowded, a bunch of tubes and instruments are added. Makes engine maintenance difficult. It's not that easy to just change spark plugs.

These are the disadvantages. Personally, I have never bothered about gas equipment. And motorists say that engines running on gas run less. These are the thoughts in our article .

What is better for a car - gasoline or gas?

SA Sage (10095) 11 years ago In addition to significant savings, gas fuel has a number of other advantages. The octane number of gas is more than a hundred, which is unattainable for gasoline, that is, such a harmful phenomenon as detonation is impossible in an engine running on gas.

The gas does not wash away the oil from the cylinder walls, so the cylinder-piston group lasts longer. The oil loses its properties more slowly, so you can change it less often. Gas mixes better with air, so combustion of the mixture in the cylinders occurs more fully and the engine runs smoother.

When the engine runs on gas, less carbon deposits are formed in the combustion chambers, and the exhaust gases contain much less harmful substances than when running on gasoline, that is, the “gas” engine is guaranteed to pass the CO test. Of course, there are also disadvantages - a gas cylinder takes up much more space than a gas tank, and it weighs more.

This makes the car heavier, but not by much. As for the size, toroidal cylinders (donut-shaped) have been developed for passenger cars, which are installed in place of the spare wheel. You also need to regularly (every 1000 kilometers) drain the condensate from the gearbox and change the air filter more often.

Changing the air intake more often will benefit any engine, and draining the condensate means the oil level should also be checked regularly. Ruslan Ivanovich Master (1628) 11 years ago

Gas....less emissions

Sergey Advanced Enlightened (21885) 11 years ago Gasoline or gas? The choice is yours Main advantages of gas: Today the average price is 1 liter. propane-butane is 1.80 UAH. , and 1 l. gasoline A95-3.80 UAH. Increasing the engine overhaul period by 1.5 times. Increasing the service life of motor lubricating oil by 1.5…2 times. Reducing the noise level of the engine to 10 dB (at least 2 times). Increasing the service life of spark plugs by 40%. Reducing the toxicity of exhaust gases: CO by 2...3 times, nitrogen oxide by 1.2 times, CH by 1.3...1.9 times. Another argument in favor of gas equipment is minimal depreciation. If the equipment is used correctly, the turnaround time for replacing rubber products of gas equipment is at least 5 years. Many motorists consider only the superficial advantages of using gas fuel (saving money), forgetting about the other advantages of the gas cylinder system. The gas mixture burns completely, so no carbon deposits form on the pistons , valves and spark plugs. The gas enters the engine in the vapor phase, so it does not wash away the oil film from the cylinder walls and does not dilute the oil in the crankcase. The octane number of the gas is 103-105, which virtually eliminates detonation of engine parts. The gas does not contain harmful mixtures (lead, sulfur), which at the chemical level destroy combustion chamber parts, catalytic converter and lambda probe. Gas burns more slowly than gasoline, which reduces the load on the piston group and crankshaft, and the engine runs “softer.” however, this causes a deterioration in acceleration dynamics (by 2-5% depending on the compression ratio). The gas mixes easily with air and fills the cylinders more evenly with a homogeneous mixture, so the engine runs smoother and quieter. In total, all these factors give TRIPLE (or more) savings funds for fuel, extend the service life of the engine by 30-40%, oil and spark plugs by 2 times, and as a result significantly reduce not only operation, but also repair costs. As for the gas system, it allows you to operate the car as if on gas , and on gasoline, switching from one type of fuel to another directly from the cabin on the fly. It should be noted that the LPG is actually duplicated by the gasoline fuel supply system, increasing the reliability of the vehicle and reducing, practically to zero, the risk of refusal to move in the event of a breakdown in the system fuel supply. In addition, the total mileage at one gas station doubles (as usual, a cylinder with a capacity no less than the capacity of a gasoline tank is installed on the car). These advantages are especially useful for those who travel long distances and are not confident in the quality of provincial gasoline. Also Owners of expensive foreign cars equipped with fuel injection and a catalytic converter will positively evaluate the gas-fuel system. In addition to significant savings on high-octane gasoline, the use of gas saves the fuel injection system, which is expensive to repair, and significantly extends the “life” of the catalytic converter. It is advisable to equip a car with gas equipment in any of the cases: with significant mileage (more than 20 thousand km per year); with high fuel consumption (more than 10 liters per 100 km); when using high-octane gasoline (95-98) Our company’s specialists will help you provide assistance in choosing the right gas equipment, professionally installing and adjusting it.

Russian gasoline and American GAS are the same thing...
And if we are talking about Russian gas, then of course, for cars, gasoline is better. During the war, there were trucks that ran on hydrogen... And they had a huge canister of hydrogen. And the maximum speed is 40 km/h

Galina Guru (2560) 11 years ago

Gasoline is 100% better. Gas is dangerous. There have already been cases when cars exploded. One incident happened not long ago. The man just bought himself a cottage and installed windows there. I went down to the garage in the morning and the car exploded, the man had 90% burns, cracks formed in the house, glass flew out on all floors. WOW.

Alexander Master (1089) 11 years ago

If the car is equipped with a good gas installation, then the car is nothing to drive, that's all. that we lose a little power, and there are fewer emissions for the environment.

S_S Sage (12028) 11 years ago

I can say that an engine designed to run on gasoline must run on gasoline, when running on gas there are many parts that are not lubricated, but should be, that is, with gasoline, which contains paraffins, oils, etc., when running on gas they quickly fail valve, plus running the car on gas in winter is not sugar, propane-butane becomes liquid at a temperature of -30 and below.
so think before switching to gas; engine repairs running on gas are done more often than on gasoline. In general, there are two sides of the coin, good and bad.

Gasoline or gas - which is better to use?

Cars, as you know, run on fuel. Despite the fact that the majority of all cars in the world “eat” gasoline, recently car owners are increasingly switching to gas. We will try to find out which is better - gas or gasoline.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQbZZNw1Iv4

Filling the car with gas

The gasoline engine was created at the end of the 19th century by the German designer Gottlieb Daimler. However, the gas engine appeared even earlier. It’s just that it became widespread only in our days, since it was completely supplanted by the gasoline engine that appeared later.

The popularity of gasoline has decreased slightly in recent years. And there are good reasons for this: the quality of the fuel and its cost. If in Soviet times it was quite difficult to get essential fuel, then no one tried to judge the quality: the cars ran like they were wound up, and the drivers could not get enough of the agility of their “iron comrade”.

Today, everything is happening according to an absolutely opposite scenario: gas stations are located a hundred meters from each other, refueling a car is not difficult, but the quality of the fuel leaves much to be desired. Gasoline itself is a liquid fuel that is obtained by distilling oil.

But as the results of the examination show, at almost all gas stations various impurities are added to gasoline, thus reducing its quality.

Fueling the car with gasoline

Another flip side of the coin is the price of fuel. Every year it only increases, regardless of the exchange rate of the American currency or internal political events in the state. These price increases largely determine the choice of fuel type for car owners today.

The disadvantages also include the high concentration of carbon monoxide in the exhaust of a gasoline engine, which has a bad effect on the environment and human health.

However, gasoline also has its positive sides. As already mentioned, gas stations are located everywhere in Russia, which means that you can purchase gasoline without any obstacles. In addition, gasoline consumption is much less than gas consumption. This is explained by the liquid state, due to which the cost of producing the fuel mixture is noticeably lower.

Another advantage of gasoline is the presence in cars of gasoline engines that are completely tuned for this type of fuel. And the engine power when using gasoline is much higher than when using gas.

Well, add here the insignificant possibility of lubricating the cylinders with gasoline from the inside when it is injected immediately before ignition.

The video shows how to refuel a car using gas:

Gas (gaseous substance) is a by-product obtained from oil refining. More often the car is fueled with methane or propane-butane.

Gas is used mainly because of savings, because its cost is at least two times less than the price of gasoline.

This is a more environmentally friendly type of fuel, since the concentration of carbon monoxide in it is much lower than in gasoline. Accordingly, it is less dangerous for the environment.

As test results show, cars running on gas last one and a half to two times longer without repairs than their gasoline counterparts, which reduces engine wear by fifteen percent. In addition, the performance of car spark plugs almost doubles due to the almost complete absence of metal corrosion.

In addition, in the summer, a gas power unit overheats much less than its gasoline counterpart, which significantly saves the car owner from troubles and additional worries.

However, this product also has negative sides. The most important thing is the expensive installation of the appropriate equipment on the car, part of which (namely the gas cylinder) will also take up free space in the cabin or trunk of the car.

When installing gas equipment, it is impossible to completely abandon gasoline: only gasoline can warm up and start a car in the morning, and in the cold frosty winter you cannot do without it at all.

The video describes the effect of gas on a car engine:

Filling a car with gas is not so easy, because gas stations are located outside the city for safety reasons.

Another disadvantage of using gas is a certain reduction in the acceleration dynamics of the car and a decrease in its maximum speed by approximately seven to eight percent.

But this is not such a serious issue, because the dynamics of acceleration can be easily adjusted by changing the level of gas compression.

Just remember: this adjustment takes place only in modern gas supply systems, and not in carburetor engines.

In addition, in an engine that operates on gas, the occurrence of “reverse pop” is quite possible. In essence, this is an explosion. In a gasoline engine, such a process is also possible, but the consequences will be much less serious, for example, a torn air filter.

In general, “reverse pop” is a rather rare phenomenon, but in order to avoid it altogether, careful monitoring of the serviceability of the ignition system is necessary when using gas-cylinder equipment.

Remember: the good working condition of the ignition system can protect the engine from “reverse pop”.

Where to choose?

There is still no definite position regarding the choice of fuel for a car. Some prefer diesel, others prefer the familiar and familiar gasoline, and still others switch to gas. There is a single rule here: everyone chooses what they like and can afford.

Despite the familiar gasoline for many, many car owners decide to switch to gas. This is primarily due to economic benefits, because the cost of gas is several times less than the price of gasoline.

And this even takes into account the higher gas consumption compared to gasoline.

By comparing all the facts and analyzing all aspects of this issue, you will independently choose gasoline or gas for your “iron horse”.

We have been installing gas equipment for several years. I would like to challenge some of the data presented in the article. I want to refute all the disadvantages of installing gas on a car.

1) The equipment is not cheap, yes. But it pays for itself within 4-5 months of its operation!

2) You cannot give up gasoline, but it is only needed to warm up the gas reducer, fill it with 5 liters and forget about it for a couple of months!

3) Almost every gas station already has a pump dispensing propane-butane. And you forgot about the city limits. There are now enough gas stations and there are more of them every day!

4) Modern standards regarding gas equipment do not allow the production of equipment without the necessary safety systems. The multivalve has a high-speed valve that shuts off the gas in case of leakage! A gas cylinder is much stronger and more reliable than any gasoline tank.

5) “Agility” is the same as on gasoline. The 4th generation LPG takes the data from the petrol control unit and converts it to gas. A little more gas is supplied than gasoline. The engine receives the required amount of fuel, there is absolutely no loss of power!

6) As for lubrication, gasoline only washes oil from the cylinder walls and at the same time leaves carbon deposits, which cannot be said about gas. Engines run much longer on gas, that’s a fact.

7) Gas consumption, with the correct setting of the LPG system, is only 10-15% more than gasoline, given the difference in cost, this is an insignificant indicator!

8) Gas equipment does not take up much space. Under the hood there is a gearbox, injectors, a control unit, and hoses, tubes and wires are neatly laid out and do not block access to absolutely anything. Spark plugs can be changed without any problems!

Against the backdrop of constantly rising gasoline prices, the low cost of gas is becoming more and more relevant, and its disadvantages are somehow less noticeable.

Just 2 years ago I was an ardent opponent of HBO, but now I’m seriously thinking about installing it.

Just for fun, I calculated the savings per year with an average mileage of 30 thousand.

Average consumption 92 benz - 10 liters for 29.8 rubles - 89,400 rubles.

Average gas consumption - 12l (+2l) at 17r - 61200r.

The difference per year - 28,200 rubles - for me personally, a strong argument in favor of installation, even with a decrease in the usable space of the car.

Reducing engine life is a controversial issue.

On the one hand, initially a gasoline engine is not designed for driving on gas, and this, of course, can damage it over time.

But on the other hand, I came to the conclusion that before installing HBO, you need to observe a couple of points:

1. study the experience of operating a specific engine on a specific machine. I am sure that today for any engine you can find people with such experience.

2. You just need to carry out the necessary maintenance in a timely manner (adjusting valves there, or other work that is required for a particular engine) and nothing will happen.

Several acquaintances drove about 200 thousand in a car with LPG - and nothing, the flight was normal.

The owner of "Caron" - after installing the gas, he was simply stunned by the effect:

I stopped counting money for gasoline (consumption is the same as “9”), although in general I am not a poor person. It's actually twice the price. The condition of the oil is as if it had just been filled. I've only been using it for 6 months. The dynamics of the car are surprising (smooth ride, acceleration, dynamism).

I forgot about the lines at gas stations. Installation cost 30 thousand rubles. Within six months it paid back 70%. I collected all the receipts and counted them after putting them in the garage for the winter. The mileage for six months was 12 thousand km. In general, I recommend it to everyone (especially SUVs).

Everything turns on, switches, etc.

Installed HBO 4th generation Lovato

a year ago, the car was initially a VAZ 2115, I installed gas and at first I was not happy, the speed on the gas dropped when the fan was turned on, after turning off the fan the speed skyrocketed, consumption was about 20 liters per 100 km, After a lot of time and trips to gas specialists and gasoline diagnosticians, I found one gasoline diagnostician who dealt with the LPG, in the end the reason for the drop in revolutions was the problem of minus sagging on the engine, they threw pigtails, also something was soldered near the engine brains themselves, I don’t know what exactly, but apparently the wiring was wrong By the way, this is understandable to the car, which is 10 years old; the petrol brains were flashed for gas, and the system was configured for high-octane fuel. The result of all this is that I no longer have problems with speed, the car runs no worse than on gasoline, if not better, I am not a slow driver, and often stand with the engine running, in my case my consumption is about 16 liters per 100. Even though I got into all this trouble, it was worth it to fill up a full tank of gas

600r (42l) it’s worth it, HBO paid for itself in a year.

As for the dangers of HBO, the author probably did not have personal acquaintance with the HBO system; you really need to try to break through the cylinder.

We carried out an experiment, lifted a propane butane gas cylinder, methane gas cylinder on a crane, above a burning surface and a gasoline tank, dropped it from a 4 or 5 storey height, gasoline immediately spilled around the perimeter and ignited, propane butane burst upward in a thin stream (it did not ignite, the multi-valve protection was triggered ), they threw off the methane cylinder, it lay there until the end of the fire without action (methane cylinders are very heavy and thick, as the gas is under very high pressure)

Everyone will have to decide for themselves, but in my opinion, LPG is a good alternative fuel that is in no way inferior to gasoline, and in some respects it is better! I recommend propane-butane to everyone!

It’s clear that the article is outdated. Nowadays there is liquid gas injection and it starts in cold weather.

What dries the cylinder on the intake side is the other side of the coin.

the internal part, where the cylinders are lubricated from the crankcase by splashing, otherwise why else are oil scraper rings needed? But imagine, when the oil in the engine is replaced, it is almost the same color as it was poured in! Even if they claim that the oil, although it darkens in gasoline-type engines, it retains lubricating properties. I believe that those who say this are disingenuous.

Gas, by the way, is safer than gasoline. If explosions happen, it’s only due to malfunction and lack of maintenance of the gas pump. Yes, the explosion is strong, but dry, as if a balloon with air had burst. There is a strong bang and gas comes out. Now imagine, an explosion of a gasoline tank? It’s still there will not burn out, will not go out.

There is agility and some more. The gas has a higher octane number, and this means the absence of detonation.

There are such gas stations after which the engine starts knocking and loses traction completely. I don’t know what kind of urine they pour there, but with this kind of gasoline, the engine refuses to move almost completely, what kind of loss of traction on gas are we talking about then?

Firstly, you will spend money on installing LPG (propane-butane), and not small from 20-40 tr, secondly, the real savings will be only 36.6% per 100 km. The only plus is that you save engine resource.

The only profitable option is a methane car from the factory, but there are very few such gas stations in the Russian Federation, and buying a home compressor station is also an expensive pleasure. It is better to buy a diesel car with a consumption of 4-6 liters per 100 km, while spending money on propane , will be the same, but in this case you save on installing gas equipment.

Difficulties may arise with the operation of a diesel engine, but special showrooms for diesel cars have appeared where they have learned to cope with them.

Gas or gasoline: which is more profitable?

Which is more profitable? Gas or gasoline?

What tricks will a car enthusiast go to in order to make the engine of his car work with less fuel consumption, and this is where gasoline has more and more “competitors” these days. One of these types of fuel, which has already firmly established itself on our Russian roads, is liquefied gas.

So what is better to use – propane-butane or gasoline? To better understand the pros and cons, it is worth considering this confrontation between gasoline and a gas engine and calculate all the advantages of both.

First of all, if you install a gas fuel supply structure on your car, what will change? In general, nothing, but a special valve will appear to turn off the gasoline supply.

Everything else will not change when installing LPG equipment, since it is designed as an ADDITION, and it can always be unscrewed and removed if you decide to get rid of it.

But the positive point is obvious - after installing such parts, the car will be able to use both types of fuel.

What are the benefits of such a design?

Understanding comes when comparing, for example, prices. Basically, the cheapness of gas is the reason why this particular equipment is installed. In addition, there is no detonation, and many engine parts, such as cylinders and pistons, will last much longer because the gas burns more evenly; Oil changes are required much less frequently, and exhaust gases are much less harmful.

What are the disadvantages of this type of car power supply?

  • Firstly, sometimes you need to drain condensate from the gearbox;
  • Secondly, the cylinders are in the trunk, and no matter how hard you try, you can’t get them anywhere;

There is another, toroidal, type of tank; they are installed in a special niche, but their cost is much higher. Gas equipment will make your car heavier by twenty to forty kilograms.

In winter, the gas engine will refuse to work. The air filter needs to be replaced three times as often and the lines to fill up the gas are HUGE! Yes, we have few suitable places in Russia where you can get this fuel...Nevertheless, you can cover a distance of 1500 km quite calmly, using ONLY GAS.

Just be sure to bring a list of refueling locations with you for convenience.

Gas cylinder equipment

The HBO device itself is much simpler than powered by gasoline. The gas is located in special containers that are installed in the trunk. You don’t even need a pump, since the substance under pressure itself enters the reducer, where evaporation occurs, and in vapor form it goes into a device to form a mixture with air. Next is the dispenser that regulates the flow.

There is also a special valve in front of the reducer to stop the flow of gas. There is a special gas/gasoline switch in the passenger compartment that can shut off all types of power. If the ignition is turned off, then both valves are closed.

Such equipment, of course, has its price, which changes over time, but the payback period is also known and lies somewhere in the range of fifteen to thirty thousand kilometers.

In addition, it is necessary to mention that there is almost nothing to break here, except valves and some other parts that last three to four years.

If people are afraid that the equipment may explode, then yes, this is possible. But in this case, the smell of gas appears, which serves as the most reliable indicator of problems, because it is very strong! If a “stench” appears, you need to stop immediately, turn off the gas fuel supply valves, and then you can drive on another fuel, as usual.

Regarding proper operation, the conclusion is the following: you need to start it with gasoline. If you start on gas, the engine will also start, but the gear diaphragms will last less. It is best to switch from gasoline to an alternative during the trip. Before any long parking, use gasoline.

Drain the condensate every thousand kilometers. This is a fairly simple operation - unscrew the screw, and after completing the operation, screw it back. The location of such a nut should be asked from those who will install all the equipment.

In general, as can be seen, operation does not cause significant problems. Two disadvantages - the waiting time at the gas station and the need to carry fuel containers in the trunk - are more than compensated by the advantages of this method of nutrition. Feel free to choose this add-on, and you will have additional opportunities!

What is better gas or gasoline

Home » Repair and service » Which is better gas or gasoline

When choosing a car, owners try to take into account various factors: comfort, carrying capacity, power. But an important feature is what type of fuel the vehicle consumes. The types and cost of further maintenance, as well as the nature of the car’s behavior and methods of its operation depend on this characteristic.

Most cars come off the assembly lines of automakers with gasoline or diesel power units. Not many modern manufacturers install gas units as their “native” fuel system. In the article we will look at the advantages and disadvantages of gas equipment (LPG), and also find out what to choose: gas or gasoline and what is better for the engine.

Why choose gasoline

Almost any experienced driver can name the advantages of using gasoline.

After all, many of them know the design of their own motor well and are often able to fix many problems on their own.

As a positive point, it is worth highlighting a large number of gas stations that offer any driver to buy and fill gasoline of different brands either into a canister or directly into the gas tank.

Even if something in the engine breaks, it is easy to find the nearest service center for gasoline power plants. Most specialists at large stations have a narrow specialization and extensive experience working with different models of machines. Therefore, repairs will often be quick and high-quality.

It is generally accepted that cars with gasoline engines are safer than those that use liquefied gas as fuel. Although these problems usually appear when installing HBO by non-professionals.

Drivers also prefer gasoline units because of their widespread use. You can conduct a test yourself and walk through showrooms looking for a car with LPG, or look through the pages of websites selling cars.

However, European concerns are producing cars with gas equipment under the hood. And this is not only urban public transport, but also passenger cars. For them, the question is not relevant: gasoline or gas, the pros and cons.

Design and operation of HBO

Today's systems are fundamentally different from devices five or ten years ago. Recently, several generations of HBO have changed.

A common feature is the absence of a fuel pump, because in the cylinder the gas is already under a pressure of 8 atmospheres. This is quite enough for self-supplying fuel.

Structural changes in the car

When installing the new fourth generation of gas equipment, the gearbox is connected to the gap in the cooling systems, and gas injectors are inserted into the intake manifold.

In old gas equipment, an additional solenoid valve was installed to block the fuel supply.

There are no further structural changes to the car. Therefore, a car can equally successfully use both gasoline and gas fuel. If desired, you can painlessly dismantle the superstructure and return to monopropellant mode.

Which is better: gas or diesel? Which option is more economical?

Fuel is perhaps the most expensive consumable, accounting for about 80% of vehicle-related costs. The constant rise in oil prices has caused an increase in the cost of almost all types of fuel with the exception of gas, which has not risen in price that much.

In this regard, the topic of switching to an alternative type of fuel is increasingly popular among those who “count a penny” and have a hard time with the rise in price.

Some people immediately switch to gas, considering this option the most profitable among all, others prefer diesel, fearing myths about gas fuel, which are increasing every day.

Considering the relevance of the topic: gas or diesel, the gas engineer decided to look into it and weigh the pros and cons of each of the candidates in order to understand what is more profitable, diesel or gas.

Diesel

Most of those who nevertheless gave preference to diesel fuel were guided by the stereotype about the reliability of diesel engines, which have served their owners faithfully for decades. Therefore, it is not surprising that when it comes to saving money on fuel, diesel will be in first place for many.

What can I say, of course, there is still some truth in this statement, and diesel fuel is indeed cheaper than gasoline, but at the same time, owners of diesel engines received a rather loud and not very dynamic engine.

This was the case until diesel engines became more advanced in the 90s; they “learned” to operate quietly, while boasting excellent dynamics and, most importantly, remaining economical.

A serious breakthrough in the evolution of diesel engines, unfortunately, cannot be called flawless, since for such savings and dynamics you most often have to pay very dearly when purchasing such a car, and also spend a lot of money on repairs in the event of its failure.

Modern diesel engines, despite their high technology, hide quite a lot of flaws that appear during operation or repair.

One of the most common problems with diesel units is the Common Rail injectors, which are very demanding on fuel quality. The main problem is that the price of these injectors often ranges from 200 to 1000 USD. Yes, depending on the car model and engine type.

Unfortunately, repairs are not always possible; besides, they will not be cheap, and there is no guarantee that the problem will go away.

An integral part of almost every modern diesel engine is a turbocharger, due to which, as you know, it is possible to significantly improve the mediocre dynamic characteristics of a conventional naturally aspirated diesel engine.

However, few people know that it is often the turbine that becomes the “Achilles heel” of a diesel turbo engine. Failure to follow operating instructions, poor oil or engine overheating lead to the turbocharger “dying” before its service life expires.

Repairing a turbine or replacing it is not a cheap pleasure, especially if the turbine of your car has variable geometry.

Next on the list of weak points of a modern turbo engine is the exhaust gas recirculation valve, or EGR for short. Like everything in a diesel engine, the cost of this valve is very impressive and can range from several hundred to several thousand. That is, depending on the car brand and engine type.

The dual-mass flywheel is also on the list of diesel vulnerabilities. For those who do not know, the main task of this flywheel is to prevent vibrations that occur in the transmission during gear shifts and protect the clutch from wear. Repairing a dual-mass flywheel can cost you about $1,000. e.

The undisputed leader, capable of causing a lot of inconvenience and unpleasant problems, is the particulate filter, which does not tolerate driving at low speeds, for example, while driving in a traffic jam.

The fuel is mostly of low quality, it is not burned completely, resulting in the formation of soot, which clogs the filter.

Basically, the problem is typical for engines with high mileage; repair work to restore this filter often reaches several thousand. e.

As you can see, such a seemingly flawless and economical unit actually has a number of unpleasant vulnerabilities, which, if broken, can cost its owner a lot and, as you understand, repair work will ultimately negate any savings.

Gas

Gas is installed by those who hate diesel or do not want to part with their already “unprofitable” gasoline car.

It also happens that we “inherit” LPG from the previous car owner, who pursued the same goal - to save on fuel.

But why do many people sell their economical car after installing LPG? Perhaps not everything is so smooth with this gas? Let's find out...

Let me start, perhaps, with the fact that not all engines, unfortunately, can be easily adapted to run on gas. Some engines completely refuse to work with this type of fuel, while others work, but at the same time cause a lot of trouble for their owners. However, let's consider the option when you want to install HBO on your car, but don’t know what awaits you.

Let's start with installation costs, which can vary from 500 to 2000 USD. That is, depending on the number of cylinders, brand of gas equipment and other nuances. As a rule, the newer the car, the more expensive it is to install LPG.

In addition, the task is complicated by the fact that modern units often require an LPG installation with a sequential gas injection system, the price of which is about 700-1000 USD. e.

As you understand, the main disadvantage is that such investments will not pay off soon, and if you rarely use your car, then even after a few years.

If your car has an engine with direct fuel injection, be prepared for the price tag to increase by another 200-500 USD. e.

Again, the benefit is dubious, and one should also take into account the fact that the engine will still consume “precious” gasoline, albeit little by little.

To completely switch the engine to gas, you need a unit with liquid gas injection, the price of which is approximately 1500 USD. e.

Unfortunately, installation costs are not all the upcoming expenses that await you; a gas-powered engine requires more frequent and expensive maintenance.

For example, in addition to regular oil changes, a car with LPG will have to change gas filters, flush gas injectors, drain condensate from the gearbox, and from time to time install gearbox repair kits, etc.

In addition, such an engine periodically requires adjustment of the valve clearances.

A cold engine runs on gasoline until it warms up properly and only then switches to gas, that is, you should not assume that you will stop visiting gasoline gas stations altogether. As a result, we have not only advantages, but also disadvantages of a gas-powered car, which should also be taken into account in the question of which is better - diesel or gas .

To sum it up..

For those who have decided that they can save money on installing LPG by buying a car with an LPG already installed, I would like to give several arguments against such savings.

Firstly, you have no guarantee as to who, how and where this gas equipment was installed, secondly, you do not know how and when this car was serviced, and thirdly, you cannot know the reason for the sale, perhaps HBO is the very reason why the current owner decided to sell his car.

No matter how paradoxical it may sound, saving is expensive! Yes, yes, before you start saving, you will one way or another have to invest a lot of money in your car before it starts to pay off.

Regardless of which option you choose, you will first have to fork out some cash, either for a new diesel car or for a gas installation. Unambiguously answer the question: “ Which is better: LPG or diesel ?” It’s difficult to answer, it all depends on the specific situation, the specific person.

My task is to point out the pros and cons of each of the candidates, yours is to weigh all the pros and cons and choose the ideal option for yourself.

That's all, I'm waiting for your comments on this topic. Share your views on whether gas or diesel is more profitable. Thank you for your attention and see you again at HBOshnik.
