At first it seems that she is standing in the wrong place, but then you begin to understand that it is all just a matter of habit. At least I can’t say that the start button on the left is completely inconvenient. The steering column itself, to the delight of the owners, now has not only an adjustable tilt, but also an adjustable length.
The seats are pleasant and soft to the touch, while at the same time the seat backs are quite elastic and have adequate holding properties - thanks to a skillfully designed frame.

Rear seats (3 points)
The width of the new Corolla Fielder is 1695 mm, which in itself is not too much.
However, thanks to the rather long length, which is 4410 mm, the rear seats are perceived as quite spacious, primarily due to the free space under the feet of the seated passengers. You can even put one leg on top of the other.
The front seats are some distance from the floor, so the rear passenger can freely slide their feet under them if desired.
Compared to the driver's seat, the rear seat is too firm, so if you asked me where to sit, I would, without hesitation, choose the seat in front. However, the fact that the rear seatbacks can be tilted back at your discretion somewhat dulls the feeling that you are sitting almost like on a stool.
Luggage compartment (4 points)
Frankly speaking, I liked the trunk because of its considerable width and the fact that it extends far into the interior of the cabin. In a word, a normal cargo compartment, as if it were not a passenger car, but a cargo one.
There is an additional niche under the floor, which, however, is not surprising, given the clear desire of the developers to make the car as convenient as possible in practical terms. I also found it convenient that the rear seats can be folded forward with one lever.
At the same time, the seat and backrest are removed, but the option of tilting only the backrest forward and leaving the seat in place is not provided.
Instead, you first need to raise the seat and only then fold the backrest - in a word, a type of transformation called “double folding”. I must say that the operation is simple and does not cause much trouble.
How is the car running?
Engine and transmission (3 points)
As I already noted, the Corolla Fielder 1.5X can be produced with either a continuously variable transmission or a 5-speed manual transmission. They gave me a car with a continuously variable transmission to try. Developed engine power is 110 hp.
, the highest torque is 14.3 kg/m - as you can see, the usual, in general, characteristics of a 4-cylinder in-line 1.5-liter engine. But paired with a continuously variable transmission, it provides the car with good traction characteristics, so I won’t complain.
Driving on ordinary roads is done with the accelerator slightly pressed to the floor at low speeds - about 1000 per minute. It is clear that such operating speeds are a sure sign that fuel consumption should not be too high. But then I decide to turn up the gas.
I didn’t feel any significant changes in terms of noise or jerking, only the engine sound became a little louder. However, when it was necessary to switch to sharp acceleration, then it became too noisy. At highway speeds, however, the engine also pulls quite energetically and also at relatively low revs.
And the engine noise cannot be called too strong. It is enough just to note that when driving at a constant speed of about 100 km per hour, I didn’t really hear the engine, there was only noise from the friction of the wheels on the road. But then the need arises to overtake someone, and the speed is already under 100.
I sharply press the gas pedal, and the tachometer needle jumps to 4000 rpm. And only from this mark does the actual acceleration begin; the higher the speed, the more intense it is. Moreover, I repeat, if you accelerate starting from 100 km/h, even then the acceleration is quite active.
Comfort and steering (3 points)
The car I got had aluminum wheel rims (optional) fitted with 195/65R15 tires. The tires gently grip the road surface, smoothing out its unevenness. It is clear that the driver, when there is no shaking or side shocks, feels quite comfortable behind the wheel. This feeling did not disappear even when the road surface became uneven.
Moving along highways and overcoming road junctions on them, the car, however, did not react too sensitively to the inevitable shocks, which should also be considered a plus. At the same time, it cannot be said that at high speed the body remains completely motionless; slight rolls still occur.
Although in terms of the ability to move smoothly, without going to the side, the car did not cause any complaints. The steering is not very easy and fast, but for cars of this class and this purpose this speed is already quite enough. The steering wheel is equipped with electric power, but nevertheless it seems natural and leaves the best impression.

Japanese auto journalist Ogawa Fumio, one of the former editors-in-chief of the famous Japanese automobile publication NAVI, conducted a 3-day test drive of the Toyota Fielder Hybrid.
After a month from the start of sales, August 6, 2013, this car confidently took 9th place in the number of orders, reaching the figure of 22,000 cars per month.
Indeed, the spacious interior and versatility are aimed at a wide range of users who prefer traditional design. The model has 9 body color options.
The test car is painted in the original light blue color (Light Blue Metallic), which is unique to the hybrid version of the Corolla Fielder.
Compared to its sister model Corolla Axio, which was released at the same time, which is a 4-door sedan, the Corolla Fielder is equipped with a station wagon body. With the exception of sports cars, this body style has so far been outside of Toyota's hybrid lineup, which covers sedan, hatchback, minivan, and even trucks.
The exterior is dynamic, highlighted by sideline graphics with raised rear side windows that give the entire rear a raised appearance.
By the way, compared to the regular gasoline version, the difference is not too significant: the difference is only in the design of the radiator grille and the manufacturer’s emblem.
When you open the door of the Corolla Fielder, it does not move further due to its massiveness; it must be closed by hand until the very end until the lock clicks. Somehow unreliable and uncertain.
However, I caught myself thinking that in this situation one can perceive a certain plus, namely, the door can easily be opened or, on the contrary, closed as much as necessary in this particular situation, without being distracted by its regulation and support.
You won't feel particularly welcome inside the cabin either. The interior is defined by black color and functional design.
An integral element of the hybrid version of the car is the travel mode switch mounted on the center console. An EV Mode button has been added to it.
The front panel, however, is quite easy to use, although it is very simple. Exactly the opposite performance compared to the high-class line from the same Toyota.
The nickel-hydrogen battery is located under the rear seats of the car. At the same time, the interior size and luggage compartment capacity are practically no different from the regular gasoline version.
The trunk itself also has a second bottom, which can accommodate small, compact luggage. The amount of luggage space with the seats up is 407 liters, with the seats down – 872 liters.
These parameters are practically no different from the gasoline version.
The highest-class Hybrid G package is distinguished by the presence of a blue tint in the front panel, as well as the original design of the instrument panel, door trim and special seat upholstery.
On the instrument panel, which is a multi-information display, in addition to the fuel consumption parameter and the remaining mileage, you can see various other indications.
The upper parietal part of the gear shift knob is inlaid with blue translucent plastic, and the knob itself is dressed in genuine leather.
You immediately know that you are driving a hybrid car, because you can see the direction of energy flow and fuel consumption figures on the instrument panel screen. However, the strong spirit of the “car of the future” that was clearly felt in the early Prius is absent in this car. This feeling makes it clear that the hybrid is already becoming something taken for granted.
The Corolla Fielder's powertrain is a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine paired with a THS II hybrid system with a reduction function. Total power is 100 hp. This specification completely duplicates the parameters of the Toyota Aqua.
Engine torque reaches its maximum value of 11.3 kgm in the speed range from 3600 to 4400 rpm. On the other hand, the electric motor produces a maximum torque of 17.2 kgm.
Therefore, in its range of cars, the starting force from a standstill should not be bad or insufficient. But still the car starts rather lazily.
In particular, as I noted to myself, even on a slight ascent of the road, if you do not specifically press hard on the gas pedal, no acceleration is observed.
If you do not take this fact into account, then both the handling and the suspension settings turned out well overall. The first impression of driving the car is that it is a little heavy. During acceleration and braking, the car behaves stably, there is no feeling of inconvenience or discomfort at all. Overall modest, but extremely comfortable.
Compared to the Aqua model, which has a total body length of 4 m and a total weight of 1080 kg, the Corolla Fielder has a length of 4360 mm and weighs 100 kg more. Apparently, this also played a role in the behavior of the car: you feel not the lightness of the Aqua, but the heaviness of the Corolla Fielder.
Of course, the suspension of the hybrid Corolla Fielder has been modified compared to the gasoline version, due to the increase in overall weight and lower center of gravity. In addition, soundproofing materials were added to the car's design. True, when you move at high speed, you can hear quite a lot of noise in the cabin, both from the road and from the engine.
Therefore, I would like to have a higher noise level, at least similar to the level of European cars of this class.
As for fuel consumption, the figures indicated on the instrument panel and the actual fuel consumption are almost the same. For example, on the long, winding highway at Hakone, the instrument panel showed a fuel consumption level of 12.
5 l/100 km; another time, on a high-speed highway, figures appeared close to 3.3 l/100 km. As one might expect, in urban conditions something average was determined.
In the end, when after the test drive we stopped at a gas station and refilled a full tank of gasoline, the arithmetic average of fuel consumption came out to 5 l/100 km.
To be honest, on the highway and in the city, out of a desire to save fuel as much as possible, I drove in EV Mode, which had the opposite effect, and the driving mode was often just “gasoline.” After all, a rapid loss of energy requires restoration, but how else can you charge the battery if you don’t start the engine? But, however, this fact is not a minus at all.
In any case, this fuel consumption indicator is worthy of gratitude. Depending on the battery charge level, you can drive in electric mode at a speed of 60 km/h.
Of course, some suggestions for improvement could not help but arise, for example, I would like to have thicker cushions in the seats. But in general, as a device for everyday use, it will not cause negative emotions in the average car enthusiast. An ordinary hybrid, and nothing more.
