Signs prohibiting movement: pictures with names
All drivers, pedestrians and passengers must know and follow the traffic rules. In such a situation, an important influence must be given to the study of road signs. In order to prevent violations that are dangerous to life and health, you need to clearly know all the signs prohibiting movement.
General concepts
If you find a round sign with a red ring around the perimeter on the right side of the road, you need to increase your vigilance, since prohibitory road signs look exactly like this. Inside the circle are information symbols, most of which are easily identified.
It must be taken into account that in most cases the action of the sign begins immediately behind it. In this case, it is necessary to notice them in a timely manner in order to prevent violations.
For many driving school students, prohibiting traffic signs, pictures with their images and deciphering the meaning cause some difficulties in memorizing. This attitude is due to several factors:
- The traffic rules contain a considerable number of prohibition signs, each of which is unique for decoding;
- symbols are used frequently and are interpreted quite deeply by traffic inspectors;
- signs have a number of exceptions and restrictions, which imposes certain disagreements on them in the understanding of the inspector and the driver.
Ease of classification
To remember, for example, the “No Entry” sign, the picture of which is posted on the page, or another sign of a similar type, will be helped by grouping symbols of similar types. Conventionally, for ease of perception, we can divide everything into the following classes:
- the first part of the signs does not allow entry into the area established behind the sign for all road users or for certain groups, for example, cyclists or trucks (from 3.1 to 3.10, 3.32, 3.33);
- the second part of the indicators sets the maximum permissible limit by weight category or by dimensional data (from 3.11 to 3.15);
- the third group includes signs that block subsequent movement without obligatory stopping in front of them (from 3.17.1 to 3.17.3);
- the fourth part is characterized by the presence of crossed out arrows in the center, since they do not allow movement in the indicated directions (3.18.1, 3.18.2, 3.19);
- The fifth includes signs that introduce restrictions on movement in any mode, for example, a ban on driving using a sound signal or a ban on parking on even days of the month (3.16, from 3.20 to 3.31).

Road signs for children
As soon as your baby starts walking further than the playground near the house, he will certainly notice road signs. The most common signs for children are: “Pedestrian crossing”, “Children”, “Tram stop”, “Bus stop”, “No entry”. An inquisitive child will also see other signs, because sometimes he has to travel with his dad or mom.
Children who do not yet know how to read will not pay attention to the inscriptions on pillars or shop windows, but simple and bright traffic signs will definitely attract their attention.
I believe that a child should be taught road signs from an early age. From which one? Yes, from the moment your baby starts crossing the road with you or driving a car.
Why not tell your child what a “Zebra” is and why there is a beautiful sign of a man walking along the stripes next to it.
By the time your child starts kindergarten and first grade, he will already know the most basic road signs.
Today I want to show you pictures of “Traffic Signs”. Each picture with a sign will have a detailed and simple explanation.
Pictures for children – Road signs
“Pedestrian crossing” is an information and directional sign.
It indicates the location of the ground crossing of the roadway. This sign is installed near special markings for pedestrians - zebra crossings.
Please pay attention to the child that there is another similar sign, but triangular. It is a warning (triangular) sign, also called a "Pedestrian Crossing". It does not indicate the crossing point for pedestrians, but warns the driver when approaching the crossing.
“Underground pedestrian crossing” is an information and directional sign. This sign indicates the location of the underground passage of the roadway. Installed near the entrance to the passage.
If you have an underground passage on the way to kindergarten or school, be sure to show it to your child.
“Tram stop location” is also an information and directional sign. He informs and points out to us that public transport stops at this location.
This sign is installed close to the landing area - the waiting area for passengers.
Parents should explain to the child that this road sign, like the previous one, is important for both pedestrians and drivers.
The pedestrian will find his way around where the stop is, and the driver will be careful, because there may be people (and especially children) at the stops.
When telling about this sign, be sure to repeat to your child how kids should behave at a stop (you can’t run or jump out onto the roadway).
“Bus stop location” is also an information and directional sign. He informs and points out to us that a bus stops at this place.
This sign is installed close to the landing area - the waiting area for passengers.
“Bike lane” is a prescriptive sign. Allows movement only on bicycles and mopeds. Other types of transport are not allowed to enter it. Pedestrians can also use the bike path if there is no sidewalk or pedestrian path.
If your child already knows how to ride a bicycle, then you should explain to him that he can only ride his bicycle horse in the courtyard of the house. And the one where there is such a sign.
Bike paths are designed specifically for cyclists. Perhaps your city has such areas for cycling.
“Pedestrian path” is a prescriptive sign. Sometimes there is a special path on the streets intended only for pedestrians.
On this path you must follow the general rules of behavior for pedestrians: stay on the right side; do not disturb other pedestrians.
Children should be explained that they are not allowed to play on the footpath or go sledding. Riding a bicycle on the pedestrian path is also prohibited.
“Entry prohibited” is a prohibitory sign. All prohibition signs are red.
This sign prohibits the entry of any vehicles, including bicycles, onto the section of road in front of which it is installed.
Its effect does not apply only to public transport, the routes of which pass through this section. A cyclist, upon seeing this sign, must get off the bicycle and drive it along the sidewalk, observing the rules for pedestrian traffic.
Remind your child that if he is carrying his bike rather than riding it, he is considered a pedestrian.
“No bicycles allowed” is another prohibitory sign.
This sign prohibits the use of bicycles and mopeds. It is installed in places where riding a bicycle can be dangerous.
Typically this sign is placed on streets with heavy traffic.
It should be remembered that cycling is prohibited on highways, even if there is no prohibiting sign.
I believe that every child should know this sign and the rules associated with cycling, because children love to ride and, if possible, will want to ride on the road.
"Children" is a warning sign.
This sign warns the driver about the possible appearance of children on the road. It is installed near a child care facility, for example, a school, a health camp, or a playground.
But parents should warn the child that this sign does not indicate a place for children to cross the road! Therefore, a child pedestrian must cross the street in a place where pedestrian crossing is permitted and there is an appropriate sign.
“Pedestrian traffic is prohibited” – prohibitory sign.
This sign prohibits the movement of pedestrians. It is installed in places where walking can be dangerous.
This sign is often used to temporarily restrict pedestrian traffic, for example, during road works or renovation of house facades.
It should be remembered that pedestrian traffic is always prohibited on highways and roadways, even if a prohibitory sign is not installed.
Of course, this article does not cover all road signs. But those that you will see in our pictures are the signs most often encountered by pedestrians.
If you want to teach your child all the signs, you can download a picture and print out each road sign. With the help of these homemade road signs you can play with your child and teach him at the same time.
Simply cut out the signs, glue them to matches or toothpicks, place them in prepared plasticine holders and place them on the toy track.
Let the kid roll his car himself and tell you what kind of signs he meets on the way.

Mandatory traffic signs with comments
Mandatory signs according to traffic rules are road signs that are used to introduce traffic modes, as well as to cancel previously introduced modes.
Prescriptive signs, unlike prohibitive ones, introduce a positive regulatory regime. If prohibitive ones are associated with a ban on performing certain actions (speed, distance, overtaking, stopping, parking, etc.), then prescriptive ones introduce requirements for mandatory (positively prescriptive) action.
4.1.1 “Move straight”, 4.1.2 “Move right”, 4.1.3 “Move left”, 4.1.4 “Move straight or right”, 4.1.5 “Move straight or left”, 4.1.6 “Move right or left"
The family of signs 4.1.1 – 4.1.6 are signs that are similar in their principle of regulation. Therefore, we will look at them in a compartment. Understanding the effect of these signs is not at all difficult.
All six signs can be installed before intersections of roadways or entrances to and exits from adjacent territories. At such intersections they indicate the direction of movement of vehicles. But beyond the intersection the signs are no longer valid.
Here, for example, is road sign 4.1.1 “Move straight ahead” (let’s call it “Move straight ahead only”).
In this case, movement is only allowed straight ahead. But if the driver passes the intersection, then immediately after it he can turn and turn around. The sign on this section of the road no longer works.
Video lesson about mandatory traffic signs:
Often the “Go straight” sign is used to prohibit left turns or U-turns at an intersection (intersection). For this purpose, it can even be installed on the left side (for example, on a dividing strip).
Road sign 4.1.2 “Move to the right” will indicate that only one maneuver is allowed at this intersection - turning right - and the driver must comply with this requirement.
But road sign 4.1.3 “Move to the left” will indicate not one permitted maneuver, but two - a left turn and a U-turn .
The logic is simple: what is a reversal? It's two left turns.
Sign 4.1.4 “Move straight or to the right” will only allow the indicated maneuvers.
But sign 4.1.5 “Move straight or left”, in addition to the directions indicated by arrows, will also allow you to make a U-turn.
Accordingly, the last sign in the family – 4.1.6 “Movement to the right or left” – prohibits only straight movement, but will also allow (in addition to right and left turns) a U-turn.
Therefore, the effect of these six signs will not apply to the entire intersection, but only to the intersection in front of which these signs will be installed.
At other intersections, the signs will not work.
Or even just in the middle of the road.
And then the rules of his action become fundamentally different.
The effect of sign 4.1.1 “Move straight ahead” will extend from the installation site to the nearest intersection in the direction of travel . And at the next intersection the “work” sign will no longer be there.
The sign will require drivers to only drive straight ahead and - as a bonus - will be allowed to turn into adjacent territory on the RIGHT!
Why on the right? It’s just that if you allow a left turn, then the occurrence of a traffic jam (traffic jam) on this section of the road is more than likely (because a driver who intends to turn right into the yard will have to let oncoming vehicles pass).
Thus, let us summarize the action of the first group of prescriptive signs. When all these signs are placed in front of intersections, their coverage area extends only to the nearest intersection .
But sign 4.1.1 “Move straight ahead” can be displayed in two ways: before the intersection and after it (or simply in the middle of the road).
We will assign the status “insidious” to the second installation method. It must be remembered that in this case the sign will be valid until the nearest intersection , allowing you to move only straight and turn into the adjacent territory on the right.
Video lesson that will help consolidate theoretical knowledge on this topic of traffic rules:
And one last thing. The first group of signs does not apply to drivers of route vehicles . This benefit is understandable for them: a bus, trolleybus or tram route may run within the sign’s coverage area, and an exception to the general rules will be necessary to transport passengers to public transport stops.
4.2.1 “Avoiding an obstacle on the right”, 4.2.2 “Avoiding an obstacle on the left”, 4.2.3 “Avoiding an obstacle on the right or left”
Another family of signs. Their purpose is to indicate to the driver the permitted direction (or permitted directions) to avoid an obstacle or a difficult section of the road.
Driving on sections of roads marked with such signs is permitted only in the direction of the arrows. And nothing else.
4.3 "Circular movement"
A roundabout (or, as drivers call it, a “ring”) is a special section of the road.
Its danger is determined at least by the fact that many drivers do not fully understand the rules and principles of its passage. We will definitely devote a special article to this area; here our goal is to analyze the effect of sign 4.3.
Movement through the intersection is permitted only in the direction of the arrows - counterclockwise. If you want to turn around at such an intersection, the driver must drive around the entire ring.
When entering this area, special rules apply: this can be done without occupying the far right position on the roadway. But more details about this can be found in the relevant section of the Rules.
For cyclists and pedestrians
4.4.1 “Cycle path”, 4.4.2 “End of cycle path”
These signs indicate an area designated for bicycle traffic.
4.5.1 "Pedestrian path"
It designates an area intended for pedestrian traffic only.
4.5.2 “Pedestrian and bicycle path with combined traffic (cycle and pedestrian path with combined traffic)”, 4.5.3 “End of the pedestrian and bicycle path with combined traffic (end of bicycle and pedestrian path with combined traffic)
Signs mark the beginning and end of the section, which is intended for combined pedestrian and cyclist traffic.
4.5.4, 4.5.5 “Pedestrian and bicycle path with traffic separation”, 4.5.6, 4.5.7 “End of pedestrian and bicycle path with traffic division (end of bicycle and pedestrian path with traffic division)”
These signs indicate the beginning and end of the section, which is intended for the movement of pedestrians and cyclists in a separate mode (along specially designated horizontal road markings).
The above signs are a whole family, so let’s look at the principles of their functioning in a compartment.
The qualifications of the signs are clear: those participants who are depicted on the sign – pedestrians and/or cyclists – are allowed to move through such areas. The coverage area of all these signs extends to the nearest intersection of all path options with the classic road, as well as to the installation of the corresponding barrier sign (if any), which cancels the effect of the previously installed sign.
In order for the driver not to get confused with such an abundance of signs, it is enough to know one thing: driving motor vehicles on such sections of the road is strictly prohibited . Even drivers of mopeds (scooters, mokiks and others like them) are required to refrain from entering such an area.
According to paragraphs. 9.9, 24.7 Traffic Rules, moped drivers cannot drive on bicycle paths. For this purpose, there is the right edge of the roadway, a shoulder or a lane for cyclists (an area marked with a sign and special markings).
Another important question is: “Can a bicycle driver ride on a pedestrian path?”
The answer is: NO, except in two cases:
1) when transporting or accompanying a child under 7 years of age;
2) in the absence of a bicycle or bicycle-pedestrian path, lane for cyclists or the impossibility of moving along them, as well as on the right edge of the roadway or shoulder.
In these cases, the cyclist has the right to move along the pedestrian path, taking precautions and giving priority to pedestrians.
4.6 “Minimum speed limit”, 4.7 “End of minimum speed limit zone”
Sign 4.6 “Minimum speed limit” introduces a restrictive speed limit: in its coverage area it is prohibited to move at a lower speed than indicated in the sign field. The stop sign - 4.7 "End of minimum speed limit zone" - cancels this speed limit.
The effect of sign 4.6 extends from the place of its installation to the nearest intersection in the direction of travel .
In a “real” populated area, if there is no intersection, the sign’s coverage area ends at the location where the “End of populated area” sign is installed.
It is very rare to see sign 4.6 “Minimum speed limit” in its “pure” form. Its installation along the entire road is permitted if in parallel there is another - alternative - road along which low-speed and other low-speed vehicles can travel.
Therefore, most often the sign is combined with a “Traffic Lane” sign. This combination indicates that the effect of the speed limiting sign applies only to the lane above which they are installed.
4.8.1, 4..8.2, 4.8.3 “Direction of movement of vehicles with dangerous goods”
Very simple synthetic characters. They are formed by the symbols “Dangerous Goods” and signs from the first family of prescriptive signs.
The movement of vehicles transporting dangerous goods is permitted only in the directions indicated by the arrows.
Let's conclude
Prescriptive road signs are used to introduce a positive regulatory regime. Most often, a prescriptive sign introduces one restriction. In this they differ from signs of special instructions, which present several requirements to road users at once.
The actions prescribed to the driver must be carried out. Otherwise, the driver violates the current Traffic Rules and may be subject to administrative punishment.

Types of road signs
All traffic signs are divided into eight groups, each of which serves to convey certain information to the driver. This article discusses in detail the features of each type of sign, as well as their main functions.
All signs used on the territory of the Russian Federation are divided into the following groups:
- warning signs;
- priority signs;
- prohibition signs;
- prescriptive signs;
- signs of special regulations;
- information signs;
- service marks;
- additional information signs.
Each group of road signs has its own shape and color tone. In addition, all plates have a digital identifier. The first number indicates the group, the second the number within the group, and the third the type.
Each group serves to convey to the driver any information or a prohibition on movement.
Classification of road signs - warning signs
Distinctive features of such signs are triangular plates, a white background with symbols written in black paint, and a red border.
According to the rules, a warning sign is placed 50 or 100 meters before the danger zone in urban or rural areas, and 150-300 meters on roads outside populated areas.
If it is not possible to install a sign at the required distance, the distance to the dangerous area in meters is indicated at the bottom of the sign.
Such road signs, as a rule, have a triangular shape, so it is almost impossible to confuse them.
Warning signs are installed in rectangular and cross-shaped shapes. Their installation is determined by separate rules and regulations. Thus, signs 1.1, 1.2, 1.9, 1.10 and some others are placed exclusively outside cities and villages. The minimum reporting distance regarding the danger zone is 50 meters. Plates 1.23 and 1.25 are installed directly at the emergency site.
Warning signs 1.7, 1.17, 1.22 indicate that there is no roundabout or pedestrian crossing further along the route. They are additionally accompanied by signs from other groups.
What road signs are from the group of priority signs?
Priority signs indicate a specific road, which is considered the main road relative to other traffic routes. You usually see such signs at intersections and other similar areas with heavy traffic. Regulatory signs may also be placed on narrow roads.
The sign “Traffic without stopping is prohibited” is most often found near railways and barriers to prevent accidents with trains.
In some cases, on the road you can see a regulatory sign and a traffic light, or a sign and a traffic controller. In this case, priority is given to traffic lights or traffic controllers/traffic police officers. Be careful under such circumstances. Only if the traffic light is turned off, you need to follow the sign.
Types of traffic signs - prohibition signs
As one could understand from the name of the group, prohibition signs notify the driver that movement is prohibited.
In turn, such signs are divided into prohibitory and restrictive. In the first case, travel is strictly prohibited, and in the second, it is allowed to continue driving, but with the utmost caution.
Prohibition signs are always round, with a white background on which a specific design is applied in black paint. The exception is four plates with a blue background. In addition, there are four black and white signs that allow previously prohibited traffic.
The signs of this group are the most difficult to learn: for prohibitory and restrictive signs, some exceptions have been introduced that apply to specific types of transport. In addition, it is difficult to navigate the territory of operation of a particular sign.
- The first exception applies to drivers who have turned on special signals and red-blue lights and are performing some kind of official mission. In this case, any prohibiting sign can be ignored.
- Signs 16, 3.17.1, 3.17.2, 3.17.3, 3.20, 3.24 are mandatory for all motorists.
- The presence of signs 1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.18.1, 3.18.2, 3.19, 3.27 does not apply to minibuses.
- Signs 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8, 3.28, 3.29, 3.30 can be ignored by postal vehicles.
- Plates numbered 3.2, 3.3, 3.28, 3.29, 3.30 can be ignored by drivers transporting disabled people of the first and second groups.
- Employees of factories and enterprises located in the area of the sign, as well as drivers transporting passengers who live in this area, have the right to ignore signs 3.2, 3.3, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8.
- Taxi drivers with an activated meter can ignore signs 3.28, 3.29 and 3.30.
- Table 3.26 allows you to honk your horn to prevent an accident.
- And the last exception - sign 3.20 allows you to pass a car that cannot reach a speed of more than 30 kilometers per hour, as well as a motorcycle, bicycle or cart.
It is often difficult to figure out where the effect of a particular sign ends. To do this, learn four rules.
- Specific signs cease to operate before the first intersection.
- If a certain sign is installed in a city or rural area, then its effect ceases outside the territory of the populated area. Outside a city or village there is always a crossed out sign with the name of the locality.
- The coverage area may be indicated on the sign itself.
- Sign 3.31 cancels all previous ones.
Types of road signs - mandatory signs
Such signs apply to absolutely everyone. They can indicate the direction in which traffic is allowed to continue, the maximum speed or route for special vehicles. In addition, mandatory signs may allow pedestrians or cyclists to proceed.
Almost all such signs are round, with a blue background and white pictograms.
Features of road signs
- Plates 4.1.1 - 4.1.6 indicate the traffic trajectory at a specific intersection.
- Signs 4.1.3, 4.1.5 and 4.1.6 have an arrow that allows movement exclusively to the left. In addition, in this place you can turn around.
- Signs 4.1.1 - 4.1.6 can be ignored by minibus and bus drivers.
8 groups of road signs
Four groups of road signs were discussed above. It remains to sort out the same number of types, namely: signs of special regulations, information signs, service signs and signs of additional information.
Categories of road signs - signs of special requirements
On some roads it is impossible to establish a generally accepted traffic norm. It is in such situations that special warning signs are used to inform drivers about special driving modes.
Signs in this category are square or rectangular in shape. The background of the plate can be green, blue or white.
- Signs 5.23.1, 5.23.2, 5.24.1, 5.24.2 are placed in areas for which traffic rules for populated areas are relevant.
- Tables 5.25 and 5.26 inform about the invalidity of the rules for urban or rural areas.
- Signs 5.27, 5.29, 5.31, 5.33 apply to a specific area without exception, be it an intersection or any other road with non-standard traffic.
Group of information signs
Such signs are created to inform drivers about different settlements, as well as the location of certain cities and villages.
These signs are always rectangular, and the main color may vary depending on the subgroup. For example, highway objects use a green background. A white background is used to indicate objects within a certain point, yellow - if roads are being repaired. Blue is used to indicate routes outside the city.
Categories of traffic signs - additional information signs
Additional signs serve to provide more detailed information to the driver. They are additional to the main signs. Therefore, they cannot be used independently. According to the rules, no more than three plates can be attached to one sign.
If the additional sign contradicts the main one, the driver must follow the instructions of the temporary sign. Additional signs are mainly installed during renovation work.
Categories of road signs - service signs
As you might guess, such signs indicate various points, for example, car repairs or gas stations.
They are hung in the city limits near the object itself, and in rural areas, or outside the city, in advance - from 400 meters to 80 kilometers.
