  • From 2500 kilometers. In a situation where the engine has not undergone a major overhaul, but many key parts have been replaced, it will need to be run in for about 2,500 kilometers. This is due to the fact that new parts need to get used to the old ones. This process is much more complex than grinding in new elements. For example, if the oil scraper and compression rings have been replaced, it will take about 2,500 kilometers for them to start working optimally with the old liners and pistons.

The process of running in an engine after repair is no different from running in a new engine, with the exception of its first start.

How to perform the first engine start after repair

The so-called post-repair engine start-up is a difficult process, especially if the repair was not a major one, but key parts were changed. To ensure that the first engine start goes as smoothly as possible, you need to perform the following steps step by step:

  1. Check the battery charge level. If the charge is poor, the engine may not start, but will be in a stressful state;
  2. Make sure that the oil in the machine was replaced after repair with a new one, which is recommended for this machine by the manufacturer;
  3. Turn the key in the ignition and start the engine, observing the oil pressure light on the instrument panel. If it does not go out 7-9 seconds after the engine starts, then this indicates low oil pressure. In such a situation, you need to turn off the engine and look for the problem;

Important: When starting the engine after repair, you should not try to increase the oil pressure with the gas pedal. Such a first start may be the last for the engine, and it will again require serious repairs.
