After these operations are completed, you can proceed directly to checking the spark plugs. It must be remembered that there must be a gap between the electrodes strictly equal to 0.7 mm. You can measure it using a probe. If necessary, you need to adjust the gap with a special tool, which is used to bend the electrode up or down, depending on the degree of its displacement.

Before checking the functionality of the spark plugs and determining their functionality, you need to unscrew them from the engine cylinder block. A special spark plug wrench will help in this matter.

To check the functionality, you can use a diagnostic tester or a piezoelectric probe.

Not every car enthusiast has such equipment, and often it is only available in auto repair shops, but there is a way out - use a homemade tool.

A simple probe for registering the supply of a spark is made from a conventional piezo lighter. Disassemble it and remove the piezoelectric unit. Extend the wire coming from the block to 15 cm. The probe is ready. Now you can start checking.

2b. The gap can be adjusted using a special device, usually included in the meter; bend the side electrode of the spark plug accordingly (see accompanying illustration). If the side electrode is not positioned exactly above the center electrode, adjust its position accordingly. Make sure there are no cracks or other damage to the porcelain spark plug insulator. The presence of any kind of defects in the insulator is unacceptable.
3. On Integra models, remove the spark plug cap (see accompanying illustration). With a cold engine, disconnect the explosive wire from the spark plug of the first cylinder (see Checking the condition and replacing the explosive spark plug wires, distributor cap and runner (every 48,000 km or once every 24 months)) . Pull only by the tip, and under no circumstances by the wire! It would be wise to use a special tool.

4. If you have a source of compressed air on hand, use it to remove debris from the engine spark plug niches (a regular bicycle pump will work just as well for this purpose).

5. The spark plugs on the models in question are deeply recessed into the spark plug niches, so to turn them out you will need a key drive extension. Having put it on the spark plug head, connect the drive and, carefully turning the gate counterclockwise, unscrew the spark plug (see accompanying illustration).
6. Check the turned-out spark plug with the condition map shown in the photographic insert, which will allow you to qualitatively assess the general condition of the engine. Before screwing in new spark plugs, lightly lubricate their threaded part with anti-seize sealant (see accompanying illustration).
7. Hand thread one of the new spark plugs into the appropriate hole in the engine. After making sure that the spark plug is not skewed in the thread, tighten it with the required force (if you have a torque wrench at hand). To facilitate the procedure for fitting the spark plug, pull a piece of flexible fuel hose onto its shank (see accompanying illustration). This eliminates the possibility of thread breakage, since the slightest biting of the hose will simply begin to turn.

8. Before connecting the explosive wires to the spark plugs, perform the procedures Checking the condition and replacing the explosive spark plug wires, cap and distributor runner (every 48,000 km or once every 24 months) . 9. The connection of the explosive wire is carried out by rotating and translational movements of its tip; the latter should fit tightly onto the shank of the spark plug. 10. Repeat the procedure for the remaining spark plugs, performing all steps one by one to avoid disturbing the order of connecting the explosive wires.
