Toyota Corolla 2010
For nine generations, the Toyota Corolla personified accessibility , unpretentiousness and reliability, for which it was adequately appreciated by fans, but the tenth generation Toyota Corolla has already become a little more expensive than its classmates.
What did she acquire, and how did this affect her other positive qualities? 1. Engines. Two petrol
engines are quite reliable and do not cause problems, the gas distribution mechanism uses a durable chain designed for - 250,000 km, an impressive service life. There are practically no weak components, with the exception of the WT-i system valve that failed; there were cases after a run of 100,000 km.
a leak appeared in the radiator, replacing which would cost about 9,500 rubles. Engine and transmission. Turbodiesels remained the same, but the base gasoline engine decreased in volume to 1.33 liters, but its power increased to 100 hp. The 1.6-liter began to produce 132 hp, instead of the previous ones – 124 hp.
The basic gearbox is now a 6-speed, and the “robot” has been replaced by a 4-speed automatic.
2. Transmission. Mechanical gearboxes do not cause any complaints, but there were enough problems with the MultiMode “robot”. The Japanese modernized it several times, but after restyling in Russia they began to offer the good old and very reliable 4-speed automatic transmission. 3. Body of Toyota Corolla 2010
As a result of restyling, the front part of the car mainly changed: the radiator grille and headlights took a different shape, and the bumper became less aggressive. At the rear, the updated version is distinguished by lamps that have taken a more elaborate shape.
The body is well protected from corrosion, but owners have many complaints about the paintwork, which can be damaged even as a result of contact with the foliage of trees or shrubs. The windshield is also not very hard, and chips and cracks quickly appear on it. 4.
The electrical equipment of the 2010 Toyota Corolla is traditionally reliable: Network failures are possible, but they are not widespread! Unless the low beam lamps, side lights and rear license plate lights occasionally burn out. 5. The front suspension is equipped with MacPherson struts, which is quite reliable and durable.
The first expenses will be necessary after 100,000 km. mileage when ball joints wear out (4,700 rubles each with levers) and shock absorbers (3,200 rubles each). Stabilizer struts usually withstand 70,000 km.
6. The semi-independent beam rear suspension is simple in design and reliable. Interventions will be required only at 150,000 km, and often later, when the time comes to replace the shock absorbers (2,700 rubles each)
The car market sets its own laws and rules that must be taken into account. For decades, the production of Toyota Corolla has demonstrated impeccable workmanship and reliability; the car has rightfully earned the status of a reliable and durable car.
Such a high image of the model allowed Toyota to quite reasonably sell the 2010 Toyota Corolla. at inflated prices, even despite its very modest design. In this regard, the car is very popular among car thieves - everything is covered by high quality and reliability.
However, there is one more nuance: adherents of the Corolla brand are certainly flattered by the external resemblance to the larger and more respectable Toyota Camry business sedan. Moreover, a similar situation emerges in the secondary market - the price tag for used Toyota Corolla 2010 is much higher than that of its classmates. And you have to put up with this - the law of the market.
Knowing the love of Russians for sedans, official dealers have placed their bets on models of this particular body type. Therefore, in our market the Toyota Corolla sedan has no competition. And even the name of three- and five-door hatchbacks was changed - Auris; such models were sold much better in Western Europe.
Despite the increase in cost, the tenth Corolla is selling well and has enviable liquidity. Toyota Corolla dealers offer a set of two petrol engines: 1.4 (97 hp) and 1.6 liter (124 hp).
On models intended for the European market, the options are more serious; they are equipped with turbodiesel engines of 1.4 (90 hp), 2.0 (126 hp) and 2.2 liters (177 hp) .). Diesel versions were not officially supplied to us.
At first, a 5-speed manual was installed with all units, which was replaced by a 6-speed after restyling. It was compatible with all gasoline and diesel engines.
The options included a MultiMode robotic gearbox based on a 5-speed manual transmission for the 1.6-liter engine.
It seems that, as compensation for the modest range of power units of the Russian versions of the Toyota Corolla, the car has a rather generous package. For example, even the initial “Comfort” version already offers side and front airbags, an ABS system designed to distribute braking forces along the EBD axles, front electric windows, electric and heated mirrors, air conditioning, a CD radio and heated front seats. The “Elegance” package additionally included side airbags (protecting the driver’s knees), fog lights, climate control and a rear electric window package. The top-end configuration of the Toyota Corolla “Prestige” includes a push-button engine start system, cruise control, rain and light sensors and alloy wheels. The MultiMode robotic gearbox is only available as an option exclusively with the 1.6 liter (124 hp) engine.
We identify the weak points of the Corolla. It is usually quite difficult to write about the operation of reliable cars (and many Toyota models are like this), because in reality, rarely anything breaks in these cars. The 2010 Toyota Corolla is no exception in this regard. Let's start with the engines.
For the Russian versions, as already reported, one of two gasoline engines of -1.4 and -1.6 liters with an installed variable valve timing system was offered. There were no problems at all with the base engine.
It is possible that the total number of Toyota Corollas of this modification is significantly less in comparison with the 1.6-liter trim levels. Costs are mainly required to replace consumables: iridium spark plugs (usually 2,000 rubles per set), replacement of high-voltage wires (from 2,200 rubles).
The secret of the high demand for used Corolla is its unprecedented reliability. Even ignition coils (1800-4300 rubles apiece) for these engines are not considered consumables. It is worth noting that on some used copies with a 1.6 liter engine.
, a flaw was noticed - the valve of the VVT-i variable valve timing system goes out of operating mode. It regulated the oil supply to the hydraulic coupling of the mechanism. The valve itself costs about 5,000 rubles, another 1,500 rubles. installation will cost. These engines have timing chain drives.
The fact that the chains have not yet been replaced due to their natural wear, and the manufacturer announces their service life is approximately 250,000 km. There is another weak point of the engines - the water pump, which often had to be updated at the turn of 80,000 km. Usually the dealership asks for 5,000 rubles for this operation.
It is important to purchase an original part - a non-original part will soon leak. Verified. And further. At some service stations, knowing about this problem, on cars with low mileage they remove a serviceable part and install a “used” one, and the owner is told that the pump is already on its way and it is advisable to replace it. It turns out that those who agree to a replacement pay money for nothing. The others soon discover their pumps are leaking.
The 5-speed manual installed in the Toyota Corolla 2010 is an example of reliability. Oil changes occur when necessary; such cases are extremely rare. What cannot be said about the robotic “mechanics” of MultiMode - numerous complaints and problems were noted.
The control program was repeatedly lost, and there were rare cases of drive motor failures and premature clutch wear. Typically, the estimated mileage of the clutch is 80,000 km, and replacement will cost 6,500 rubles.
For several years, Japanese manufacturers tried to improve the functionality of the “robot,” but the result was achieved only in 2009, when the mechanism began to work relatively efficiently.
In any case, when buying a used Corolla with such a gearbox, you need to take a test drive - the algorithm of its operation suits few people - and also carry out a full diagnosis.
Another, and considerable, advantage of the car is the practically indestructible suspension. As operation has shown, in winter the MacPherson struts can make a knock, but this does not affect the performance and reliability in any way, and the stabilizer struts last for 80,000 km. It is worth noting that a failed ABS sensor will result in the need to replace not only the sensor itself, but also the entire wheel hub assembly (6,500 rubles).
In the rear suspension of the Corolla with a semi-independent H-shaped beam, there is practically nothing in the design to break. Its design is simple, and the chassis elements are durable. Maybe for a mileage of 120,000 - 140,000 km. It may be necessary to replace shock absorbers (2,400 rubles each).
Toyota Corolla its pros and cons + Quality and high reliability + Slowly losing value + Suspension - energy-intensive + Economical and high-torque engines - Popular with car thieves - Poor sound insulation - Very modest design
– Problems with the “robot”
Toyota Corolla - history of the model
The ninth generation Corolla has been produced since 2001 with an intermediate restyling in 2004. In addition to 3- and 5-door hatchbacks, the range of body modifications included a sedan and a station wagon. | The eleventh generation of the model appeared in 2013. According to the recently established tradition, the sedan is called Toyota Corolla, and the hatchbacks released a year earlier are called Auris. There is also a station wagon based on it - Auris Touring Sports. |
– Interior of the 2010 Toyota Corolla sedan.
quite spacious, and the back seat can comfortably accommodate three people.
Modifications - The three-door hatchback was called by its own name - Toyota Auris, but this did not affect the growth of popularity in our market, because our car enthusiasts traditionally prefer sedans, albeit compact ones.
– The practical five-door hatchback Toyota Auris is also officially exported to the Russian Federation and was sold more actively than the three-door. All three models have petrol engines with a volume of 1.4 and 1.6 liters.

10th generation Toyota Corolla sedan
The popular tenth generation Toyota Corolla golf sedan in the “international” E150 body made its official debut at the end of 2006 at the international auto show in Beijing, after which it immediately reached the European market.
In 2009, the Japanese carried out a “reform” of transmissions, and in 2010 they updated the car in more detail - they “refreshed” its appearance, made minor improvements to the interior and diluted the power range with a new base unit. In this form, the four-door model was produced until 2013, giving way to the next, eleventh generation car.
The “tenth” Toyota Corolla looks nice and expressive, but it clearly lacks external brutality and harmony. The classic three-volume car body demonstrates smooth and rounded lines, massive bumpers and modern lighting technology, making the car seem more solid than it actually is.
The tenth generation Corolla is a representative of the C-class according to the European classification: 4545 mm in length, 1470 mm in height and 1760 mm in width. The wheelbase of the four-door is 2600 mm, and its ground clearance is 150 mm. In “combat” condition, the vehicle weighs from 1300 to 1380 kg, depending on the modification.
The interior of the Toyota Corolla E150 does not cause a storm of emotions - everything is simple, without any design frills, but neat and of high quality.
The embossed steering wheel is slightly flattened at the bottom, under the wavy visor there is a nice and informative “instrumentation”, and the center console, narrowed downwards, is a “haven” for a modest radio and air conditioner “knobs” - the car’s decoration is unmemorable in terms of design, but it is thought out and intuitively understandable .
The front seats of the Corolla E150 are equipped with comfortable, but somewhat amorphous seats with a poorly developed side profile and sufficient adjustment ranges. The second row of seats is spacious for three people, there is no transmission tunnel in the legs, and the only amenities include a folding armrest with two cup holders.
The luggage compartment of the “tenth” Toyota Corolla is spacious – 450 liters in “stowed” condition. The back of the “gallery” folds in two parts, which opens up possibilities for transporting long items.
In the trunk niche (under the raised floor), depending on the delivery option, there is a stowage box or a spare tire.
Specifications. On the Russian market, the three-volume model from the Land of the Rising Sun was offered with two four-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engines with a 16-valve DOHC timing belt and a sequential distributed fuel injection system.
- The “junior” version is a 1.3-liter unit that produces 101 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 132 Nm of torque at 3800 rpm and works in conjunction with a 6-speed manual transmission. You definitely can’t set acceleration and speed records with such a car: acceleration from zero to 100 km/h takes 13.1 seconds, and the “maximum speed” is 180 km/h. “According to the passport,” the four-door requires 5.8 liters of gasoline in combined driving conditions.
- “Older” versions “show off” a 1.6-liter engine, whose bins include 124 “horses” at 6000 rpm and 157 Nm of torque at 5200 rpm. It is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Depending on the decision, in 10.4-11.9 seconds the sedan reaches the first “hundred”, reaches a peak speed of 183-192 km/h and on average consumes 6.9-7.2 liters of fuel per 100 km in the combined cycle.
The tenth “release” of the Toyota Corolla is built on the front-wheel drive “New MC” platform with independent front and semi-independent rear suspension (MacPherson struts and torsion beam, respectively).
The brakes on all wheels of the Japanese sedan are disc (with ventilation on the front axle), combined with an anti-lock braking system (ABS).
The car has in its arsenal rack and pinion steering, into which an electric amplifier is integrated.
The advantages of the car are its solid appearance, ergonomic interior, sufficient internal space, reliable design, energy-intensive suspension and good sound insulation.
It also has some disadvantages - low-power engines, poor dynamics, not the best head lighting and “crickets” in the cabin.
Prices. At the beginning of 2016, on the Russian secondary market, the Corolla in the E150 body is offered at a price from 350,000 to 700,000 rubles (this range is due to the large number of offers) depending on the year of manufacture, technical condition and equipment.

Review of Toyota Corolla 1.4 (97 hp) MT 2008
Greetings, dear readers of this review! I would like to start with the fact that I am an experienced car enthusiast. In the sense that I like to get acquainted with different brands of cars. My car rarely stays for more than a year.
I owned the Toyota Corolla 10 for a little over a year and drove about 40,000 km. It was about this car that I wanted to share my impressions. During the review process I will compare it a little.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50f5DTNo87I
I bought the car from my good friend in the city of Tomsk, who was its first owner. So her story was well known to me. Purchased at 179,000 km. I went this far because we agreed on a good price. At that time, a friend had already bought a new car, and this one was for sale.
Impression
I was amazed that at 179,000 km the car had not had all its parts (except consumables) replaced! The chassis is completely original! And, as diagnostics showed, the condition is close to ideal! I sold the car for 220,000 km, a little more.
During this time, it was necessary to replace the clutch (at 190,000 km), the rear wheel bearing and one grenade (at 215,000 km), consumables. While driving there was always complete confidence that the car would not let you down!
The only thing that bothered me was the low oil consumption. If you drive fast on the highway, consumption increases up to a liter per 3-4 thousand km.
The interior is comfortable and not creaky. Sound insulation for this class is at a good level; the basic configuration has everything you need. Air conditioning, heated front seats, power windows, on-board computer, electric mirrors.
The chassis is very reliable! There is nothing at all to break at the back. The front part of the car reminded itself for the first time on a run of over 200,000 km. The chassis is not designed for racing, but at a speed of 140 km/h you feel quite comfortable! I accelerated to 180 km/h, but it is not for such speeds.
Engine 97 horsepower. When driving quietly in the city, it is quite enough, but on the highway you can forget about fast acceleration. Overtaking needs to be planned with a good margin; I did not have enough power on the highway.
One day we were driving to the sea with a friend; he had a Toyota Yaris. On a long climb, all other things being equal, he passed me. The Corolla has a lot more weight, probably because of this. My consumption in the city was about 10l/100km, on the highway with the calmest driving 6l/100km.
On the Tomsk-Krasnodar highway, the average consumption was 6.8 l/100 km with a relatively quiet ride. It would be nice to give it the engine from the Honda Civic 1.8 (140 horsepower) and add a sixth gear. It would be just the perfect car!
My car had a mechanic. I'm surprised that such a terrible gearbox was installed on the most reliable and unpretentious car. I asked myself the question, which car do I like better? Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla of the same years. I never came to a clear answer.
The advantages of the Civic over the Corolla are stability on the highway, power. With almost the same consumption, in the city 10l/100km. The reliability of Honda engines inspires more confidence, 6-speed gearbox. The advantages of the Corolla over the Civic: higher ground clearance, and the absence of faults, such as the steering rack!
Bottom line
To summarize, I can say that the Toyota Corolla 10 is generally very good and reliable! If the question is: to take it or not to take it, then I advise you to take it. Especially if you come across a version with a 1.8 engine and a classic automatic transmission. Good luck on the roads!

Toyota Corolla: movable capital – Za Rulem magazine
Exactly, as always
Success has accompanied the Corolla since its release: as soon as it went on sale in 2007, almost a year-long queue immediately lined up for it. And you can’t say that a representative of the tenth generation has any superpowers.
Neutral appearance, sufficient dynamics, reliable handling and an acceptable level of comfort - the portrait of a completely average car, but nothing more.
However, belonging to one of the most revered families in our country and some similarities with the more expensive and respectable Camry turned out to be a tremendous success.
However, for those who are not looking for emotions and refined driving manners, but are simply looking for a comfortable vehicle for everyday life, Toyota has everything they need: already in the basic version it is equipped with ABS, a quartet of airbags, air conditioning, MP3 radio, heated seats, electric windows and mirrors. For the city crowd, the Japanese have provided a robotic gearbox. All this can be safely extrapolated to the Auris hatchback - this is the same Corolla, only with a hatchback body and a slightly edited appearance.
And yet, the main popular argument in favor of the “Japanese” is its reliability, which has been praised for years, and the carefully cultivated image of a car in which nothing breaks. But do such ideas correspond to reality? This is exactly what we are trying to find out.<\p>
In a healthy body (body and its electrical equipment)
With careful owners, the car retains its presentation for a long time. A well-painted body does not allow itself to rust even after several Moscow salty winters - naturally, provided that it has avoided accidents and handicraft repairs.
Even the decorative strip above the license plate on the trunk lid, which rubbed ulcers on the body of the previous generation Camry, does not harm the health of the Corolla. It happened that, due to dirt, the headlight WASH NOZZLES were stuck in the open position.
But it was not difficult to restore their mobility: in most cases, basic cleaning helped. And by January 2008, having modified the design of the injectors, the Japanese completely eliminated their jamming.
In November, cars arrived with securely fixed decorative overlays on the radios - until then, the panels sometimes came off spontaneously.
As for the reliability of the climate control unit, power window buttons and heated seats, the Corolla is in complete order with this. In on-board electrics, only the BATTERY requires special attention. Its deep discharge, say, after a long period of listening to music with the engine not running, leads to shedding of the plates, after which the battery becomes completely unusable.
Questionable convenience (transmission)
It happened that in manual Corolla transmissions, mechanics changed the rear BEARING of the secondary shaft. The faulty part was indicated by a hum that occurred when accelerating.
Otherwise, the 5-speed manual transmission is quite reliable, and the clutch lasts at least 150,000 km for adequate drivers.
But you can’t say a good word about the so-called multimodal (multi-mode) MMT box, which is designed to make life in the city easier - but it was with it that the vast majority of cars with a 1.6-liter engine were sold!
In the ill-fated “robot,” the clutch discs quickly wore out, the control unit and actuator died. All this led to the car’s reluctance to move, the clutch slipping during the start, and getting stuck in some gear.
Neither the advice of mechanics to customers to move the lever to neutral when stopping for more than 10 seconds and slightly releasing the gas pedal during switching, nor the efforts of Japanese engineers solved the problems.
As a result, in 2010, instead of the capricious gearbox, they began installing an ordinary hydromechanical “automatic” on the Corolla and Auris.
On pre-restyling cars, in cases of inadequate operation of the MMT (diagnostics shows error P0810), the “robot” is now changed entirely. On units younger than five years old with a mileage of up to 150,000 km, subject to routine maintenance, an official dealer can install a new gearbox free of charge.
Good couple (engines)
In total, the Corolla has more than a dozen engines in its arsenal, but it was delivered to Russia with only two. These are gasoline inline fours: the 1.6-liter 1ZR-FE (124 hp) and its less powerful version 4ZZ-FE with a displacement of 1.4 liters and 97 hp.
In both units, the timing drive is carried out by a chain designed for the entire service life of the motor. If there are no characteristic noises (an extremely rare occurrence), then mechanics do not recommend touching the “chain”.
In general, the engines are unpretentious and durable - mileages of 250,000 km are not the limit for them. Candles, if you don’t pour outright crap into the tank, as a rule, take care of the 100 thousand measured by regulations.
And thanks to the short intervals between maintenance, during which the engine oil must be changed, the VVT-i variable valve timing mechanisms, which are very demanding on its quality, live happily ever after.
Sometimes it happened that the WATER PUMP of the cooling system began to leak - this mostly applies to the 1.6 liter engine, regardless of mileage.
However, replacing the pump is inexpensive, and on machines manufactured since June 2008 there is no such problem at all. Sometimes at low temperatures the starter RETRACT RELAY failed.
Alas, “defrosting” did not always help, and the entire starter had to be replaced. But by May 2009, the Japanese had sorted out this problem too.
Treatment for future use (chassis and steering)
There are only a few weak points in the suspension: sometimes “sweating” REAR SHOCK ABSORBERS, dying rear ABS SENSORS (hub replacement required) and squeaking front stabilizer bar BUSHINGS. In addition, on rare cars it is necessary to change the STEERING COLUMN that knocks when driving over uneven surfaces.
However, by 2009, Japanese engineers had successfully eliminated all of the above problems. After which there is no longer any need to change anything in a car that has not covered 150 thousand kilometers. The brake system parts also have a decent service life. The life of the front and rear pads is approximately the same - on average 30-40 thousand km.
Brake discs last 50–60 thousand.
WE DECIDED:
Official dealers for cars with an expired warranty provide a 15% discount on spare parts, 25% on plumbing work and 30% on body work. In addition, for a Corolla no older than 3 years old and with a mileage of up to 100,000 km, you can buy another year of factory warranty for 10,000 rubles.
But even taking into account the discount on servicing and the opportunity to extend the warranty, we don’t see much economic sense in choosing a three-year-old Corolla. When purchasing, you will save 100–150 thousand at most. About 25 thousand more can be gained during operation due to maintenance. In total, 125–170 thousand accumulate.
In our opinion, this is not such a big surcharge for a completely new car, which also gets rid of all childhood ailments. Another question if your budget is strictly limited. In this case, you can safely buy a Corolla. She really is much more reliable than most of her classmates.
But just don’t take a car with a “robot”.
We thank Toyota Center Rublevsky for their assistance in preparing the material.

Toyota Corolla 2008, petrol, 1600 cc, 124 – owner review
The Japanese surrendered. Strongly.
This is my fourth Japanese car and the first with left-hand drive, bought new at a car dealership. During my 5-year (at the time of purchasing the Corolla) driving experience, I drove the following units:
-VAZ 2093 (5 months, learned to drive) 1998 – “Zubilka”
-Honda Civic EK3 (hatch) 1996 – “Sivka”
-Subaru Legacy B4 (twin-turbo with automatic transmission) 1999 “Obzhorka”
-Honda FIT 1.5 (crazy stool) 2001. - "Hamster"
The Corolla received the nickname “Mouse” for its gray color and average characteristics and design.
Autumn 2008. The height of the crisis. I have cash in my hands that needs to be placed somewhere (it was planned to get into a mortgage with this down payment, but the bank increased the rates from 11.5% to 18% - the idea of buying a house had to be buried. It was decided to take a car (there was a fear that there will be another default and with the stash on hand I can only buy a box of matches).
What to choose?
Requirements: sedan or Hatch C or D class. Single-wheel drive, automatic transmission, price up to 1M, reliable, spacious (I have a family), inexpensive to maintain and marketable. Mandatory characteristics include acceptable noise insulation (I like it when it’s quiet), good taxiing and adaptability to our Ural roads (and climate!).
Budget – 1M. I go to salons and look.
Options:
-Honda Civic 5D. I take it for a test drive: it’s terrible.
In this car from the Honda that I knew, only the engine remained! Where is the soundproofing? (by the way, the old Civic didn’t have it either...) What kind of shit are the interior parts made of? What kind of member was stuck into the rear suspension beam? (On the old Civic there were as many as 5 levers on each wheel).
The only advantages of this car are the engine + automatic transmission (quite fast) and the exterior design. The interior is not for everyone - it’s like sitting in a plastic fake rocket, I prefer the classics. The new Civic is the brainchild of marketers, and in technological terms it is a step back. Into the furnace!
-Honda Accord. Stsuko, handsome. Test drive a car with a 2.4 engine: where are the 201 horses? Why is Shumka so lousy? (but, unlike the Civic, at least it exists).
There is a sense of economy in the cabin: for example, the plastic of the upper part of the panel is soft and solid, and the plastic of the glove compartment lid is like in the Chinese, the door handles are also made of some kind of shit, they wobble and creak. The steering wheel seems to be clear, but the car reacts to taxiing like a barge. Accord has grown fat.
The combination of engine and automatic transmission is good (but I’m afraid that the fucking marketers will soon get their hands on these attributes of Honda and will force the Accord to have a 600 cc engine with three turbines) I rode for some time in a 1999 Accord, in the back of a CF4 - that was a Honda (although the engine is only 150 hp, the drive is through the roof)! And the new Accord is a flabby hippopotamus. And a vegetable. Premium (as the managers of the Honda dealership assured)? Fuck it... It doesn't even smell like premium here. From the Accord premium, only the cost of additional equipment (mud flaps, for example, are not in the database), CASCO and maintenance. Accord with woods... Honda is no longer the same.
-Toyoto Avensis (right in the salon there are already 3 configurations, including the maximum speed on the skin, with a normal five-speed gearbox and a 2.4 engine). Test drive: the Shumka is good, the dynamics are acceptable, good stuffing (available on the car).
I didn’t like it: the interior and exterior design is outdated (although the Avensis is still nice in that body), the car steers sluggishly (although, it feels like the suspension handles taxiing well, because there is a multi-link at the back, but the steering wheel is slurred), the transmission is an old 4-speed automatic - quite thoughtful.
Overall, I liked the car. A little boring, but very comfortable.
-Toyoto Camry – I didn’t like it either externally or inside (one radio with plexiglass and wobbly handles painted silver, what’s that worth). The quality of materials and interior are inferior to the Avensis (although the car is a higher class!).
Also considered:
-ZhOpel Astra and Vectra (they didn’t impress with the design, although the price is delicious for a car with such good stuffing). But Astra is cramped! And the Vectra was frightening due to its breakage (a colleague suffered with an automatic transmission on a Vectra 2.2 - he practically went through the box due to antifreeze from the engine radiator getting into the automatic transmission radiator - they are one whole there).
-Volks Passat is cool. But! I wanted two liters, however, two-liter TSI engines back then had problems (they wouldn’t start in cold weather), the 1.6 was a vegetable. CASCO is expensive. Ehh, the Passat is gone. It's a pity…
-Golf is gorgeous inside and out, but the 1.6 engine (105 hp) is a vegetable, and I was afraid to take it with the 1.4TSI. And the Golf is a little expensive (the price is close to the Avensis).
-Volvo S40 – Focus by focus. Only the design and minced meat are tastier. The cost of maintenance is more expensive than hans.
-Volvo S60 – cool, but they were already discontinued. There was one car available in the showroom, but I didn’t dare take it.
As a result, I returned to the Toyota showroom and took the new Corolla for a test (the test cars only had a robot). Go! Your mother! What the hell? Robot fuckbot! What's this? Who is this for? No, go to hell with your robot! Jerks, stalls at intersections, the switching algorithm is incomprehensible. I, spoiled by driving two cars with CVTs (Civic and Fit), was not impressed by the miracle of Ippon robotics.
But I liked the car itself! Slightly worse than Avensis in some respects, but the difference in comfort is not adequate to the difference in money of almost 300 thousand.
What about the prices for cars with manual transmission? Baaah, the promotion includes the Comfort+ package with a discount and a set of winter tires as a gift – 517 thousand. What is the order time? 0 days! The Toyota Center parking lot is filled with cars of various configurations (many shaved off loans in 2008).
So, in the end I chose from Corolla and Avensis. Corolla wins! And it was decided to spend the remaining money on something useful (drink and whores).
So, Corolla 1.6 manual transmission 2008, Comfort+ equipment:
Exterior: distinctive. Looks like a small Camry (or does the Camry look like a Corolla inflated - like a frog - into the exhaust pipe?). I don't like the food. Muzzle - you can get used to it. A typical cross-eyed Asian Ipalo. In general, she’s not a beauty, but she doesn’t cause rejection either.
Engine: Super! With variable valve timing. 125 hp It pulls well at the bottom (my wife pulled away calmly from 2nd gear), and cheerfully picks up at the top. For such a car this is an excellent engine. You feel comfortable in the city.
On the highway (if without air conditioning) there is enough power for overtaking. Consumption is 6.3 on the highway and 8-10 in the city. Acceleration 10.4 to hundreds. The engine heats up quickly in cold weather - five minutes of leisurely driving - and the interior is already warm. Starts with a click in any frost (tested down to -37).
For the Toyota engine - 5 points!
Manual transmission: after 5 years of using right-hand drive with an automatic transmission, I got used to the manual transmission in about a week. Gloh. He swore. Twitched. He swore loudly. In the end, I got used to it - and now I like manual transmissions much more than automatic CVTs. I noticed that sometimes (but rarely) reverse gear does not engage clearly. Otherwise everything is OK! The gearbox strokes are short, the shifts are clear (except for the rear).
Salon: the width is the same as in the Avensis, the length is a little shorter, but in the back seat I can easily sit behind myself, I don’t rest my knees on the back of the front seat - it’s not cramped. There are armrests at the front and back. The plastic of the panel and doors (upper parts) is soft.
The plastic of the remaining interior parts is harder, but not creaky or rattling (much better than the plastic in the Civic). Two glove compartments (very convenient - in the small upper one you can carry a knife, in the large lower one - loot for the GAI men and a sawn-off shotgun). Cup holders on the tunnel and in the doors.
An eyeglass case in the ceiling, a good “navigator’s light”, illuminated mirrors in the visors (my wife appreciated it).
Sound insulation is good! Slightly worse than in Avensis and classmate Golf. But, compared to Civic or Mazda, it’s just super!
A chic optitron instrument panel - readable in any conditions, no need to look at the numbers. There is a heated asshole for the driver and front passenger (although the temperature is not adjustable - but the asshole and eggs never froze or smoked, because there is a discrete thermostat). Heated mirrors are a must-have for our climate zone.
Mirrors defrost (or fog up) in less than a minute. There is no climate – only an air conditioner (it’s as cold as it should be!). The interior heater is excellent, it has never frozen even in severe frosts (and in traffic jams at idle everything is OK). There is airflow for the rear passengers' feet. The radio is normal, the sound is 3 points, it reads MP3.
The windows do not sweat; the side windows are blown from separate deflectors on the panel.
The steering wheel is adjustable for reach and tilt, and the driver's seat is also adjustable for height. You can settle down comfortably.
The review is excellent! The side mirrors allow you to see objects in the blind spot (the mirrors are spherical).
The trunk is large and easy to access. The rear seats fold down, you can put something long in the trunk, but due to the horizontal beam in the trunk, the height of the cargo is very limited.
The light is gorgeous, both near and far! Xenon is not needed here. There are rear foglights.
Windshield and headlight washers are quite effective (if there is no dried dirt on the headlights).
The suspension is a good compromise between handling and comfort (but the emphasis is rather on comfort). I was pleased with the energy intensity - it swallows potholes without making you wince. The steering wheel is clearer than in the Avensis.
But at high speed, maneuver with glasses (behind the beam). In general, the car is not a driver's car, but it behaves quite predictably in critical modes. Of the active safety systems - only ABS (and 4 airbags).
By the way, I liked the work of ABS.
Did not like:
-disgusting control of the on-board computer - two little tweaks on the dashboard, under the steering wheel. It’s not convenient to stretch, nor is it convenient to adjust the algorithm for changing parameters, like in a Soviet “electronics” watch with two buttons. I will gladly spit in the narrow-eyed face of the engineer who came up with this;
-it’s not convenient to reach for the butt heating activation buttons;
-window drive for the “meat grinder” type doors in the rear seats (damn, that’s a cheap option! They could have included this as a standard option. Cheap!);
-in the cold, the headlight washers get stuck and do not return to their original position. If you use headlight washers, the fluid consumption is simply hellish!
-the trunk lid is attached to two “pokers”, which, when the lid is closed, rest against the cargo. In addition, the wiring to the lights is fixed outside the poker and the cargo placed in the trunk on the left side constantly clings to this wiring.
-stained seat upholstery (however, easy to clean);
- metal body. It's not metal, it's foil. Presses through with a finger. After three years of operation, all the doors had dents from the doors of neighboring cars in the parking lot. On Japanese cars of the 90s, the metal was normal.
-dye. Scratched by fingernails and branches. The whole face is chipped from driving on the highway! On the old Civic and Subaru (both manufactured before 2000), the paint was stronger and the coating was thicker! And here it’s complete crap. Eco-friendly? I don't give a damn! Especially after Fukushima.
-glass. There are scratches from grains of sand on the sides, and chips on the front. True, unlike the Subaru that I had, cracks from chips did not appear in the Toyota's windshield.
In terms of reliability, there are no comments. For 3 years, I only replaced the low beam lamps (360 x 2 rubles) I changed it myself (a rather hemorrhagic procedure - clearly designed for implementation in an auto center). Operating costs are minimal:
-TO2 – something around 6500 rubles
-TO3 – about 7500 rubles
The car is reliable, practical, but at the same time boring and soulless, does not evoke any emotions at all. Gray mouse.
After 3 years of operation and 38,600 km of mileage, the “Mouse” was sold for 530,000 rubles within 3 days after the sale announcement was published! Enviable liquidity! (one of the few advantages of the Corolla).
The general feeling from the car: the Japanese began to save hysterically! If old cars, before 2000, gave the impression of something monolithic, reliable, strong, durable and high-tech, then new cars are disposable rattles.
You can feel it in everything! Look at the new Toyota creations - like the Highlander or the updated RAV4 - horror! Rattle plastic panels and doors, a body made of foil, wobbly radio control knobs painted in silver, outdated automatic transmissions - this is the level of Chinese cars.
And what about the price tag? The Japanese got mad.
Surprisingly, but true - Korean cars, having equaled the prices of Japanese ones, at the same time benefit in the quality of materials and design. Look at the design of the new KIA! And the Japanese have sunk to the level of the Chinese (it’s good that reliability hasn’t suffered yet - but soon they will save on this too).
Would I buy a Toyota car again? No! Would I buy a car from another Japanese brand again? No!
A Skoda Octavia Ambient has been ordered to replace the Corolla, with an additional package. 2 options, 1.8TSI engine with manual transmission. Asians cannot offer anything similar to Octavia (in terms of quality, manufacturability, minced meat and cost). It's a pity! I fondly remember old Japanese cars from the 90s! But it seems that these times and feelings cannot be returned...
