How to wash a car correctly

How to wash your car correctly? “We wash the car ourselves”

How to wash a car correctly

During a crisis, everyone is trying to save at least a little money, in this article I will tell you how to properly wash a car yourself without car wash services, so as not to damage the car’s paint and save some money on this type of service.

How to wash a car correctly

Washing a car is quite simple, but you need to do it following simple recommendations.

All motorists know how much it will cost to repaint car body parts, which is why it is necessary to carefully care for the paintwork.

It is advisable to wash off dirt from the body immediately after the trip; there is no need to postpone this procedure until later. There may be particles in the dirt that penetrate under the paintwork and destroy it.

For work we will need:

  1. Water container and water
  2. Sponge, chamois and rags
  3. Vacuum cleaner and brush

Washing and cleaning chemicals for cars:

how to wash a car correctly

Many people mistakenly believe that it is better to wash a car in sunny, cloudless weather so that the car dries faster, but this opinion is erroneous; drops on a car’s paintwork are like a magnifying glass through which the sun scorches the paint. The car should be washed in cool and cloudy weather or in the shade.

If the car has not been washed for a long time and the dirt on it has hardened, you need to soak it with a stream of water or squeeze the water out of a sponge and only then start washing the car. Do not under any circumstances remove dry dirt . Start washing your car from the top, roof, hood, trunk and gradually work your way down to the wheels.

Car pollution can be divided into three parts:

  • The first outer layer consists of silicate particles and organic impurities, which can be easily removed with water without the use of detergents.
  • The second layer consists of exhaust gas residues, asphalt particles, insect residues and fatty substances that have fallen on the body and is washed off only with the help of car shampoo, which dissolves the resulting film.
  • The third layer consists of oxides of the paint itself and polishing residues that remain from previous processing and are removed using chemicals, abrasives and polishes.

Many car enthusiasts think that using auto chemicals when washing a car will accelerate the appearance of corrosion centers, but this is a mistake; in fact, special chemicals and additives not only clean the surface well, but also help remove acidic products that contribute to corrosion, thereby increasing the durability of the car body .

To prepare a cleaning solution, you need to pour water into a container and add a small amount of detergent to it (use the manufacturer’s recommendations); 6-8 liters of water are enough for a car body. After washing with shampoo, you need to rinse the car several times with plenty of water, then wipe the body with a dry, clean cloth and the windows with suede.

If there are traces of bitumen on the body, then they must be removed with a bitumen stain cleaner, which is sold in aerosol cans (these preparations do not harm the body and will remove bitumen, oil and grease stains well), the product is applied to the contaminated surface for 5-10 minutes after it is necessary to remove the contamination dry cloth. You can also use an insect repellent cleaner, which does a good job of removing bitumen stains, but is slightly different in use; after application, you need to wipe with a damp cloth and rinse thoroughly with water.

In order to protect the paintwork it is necessary to use car cosmetics. You need to apply cosmetics on a well-washed car and, depending on the type chosen, on a dry or wet car.

After finishing washing the outside of the car, you can begin cleaning the inside of the car using a vacuum cleaner, plastic polish and seat upholstery cleaners.

Wash your car correctly with a Karcher - technology and useful tips

Let us immediately note that our task is not just to wash off the dirt from the body, but to get the same result as at a professional car wash. For this we need:

  • Karcher itself - this is what car enthusiasts call any car wash, regardless of the brand and country of manufacture;
  • active foam, for example, you can use Karcher RM 806;
  • soft napkin;
  • wax protectant;
  • window squeegee.

For car enthusiasts, the Karcher car wash brand has long become a household name and applies to all devices.

  • They will protect the chassis and save you money, increasing ground clearance by 3 cm.

You can purchase a wheel cleaner and a plastic cleaner separately. But if you don’t have these detergents, it doesn’t matter, active foam will also do a good job of removing dirt.

Before you start washing, you need to prepare a high-pressure car wash, i.e. connect it to communications - electricity and water supply.

To do this, the water supply must have a special fitting to which you will connect the hose. True, some models of mini-washes can take water from barrels, cans or even ponds.

In this case, you just need to lower the supply hose into the water source.

Then you need to connect the high pressure hose to the foam nozzle. You need to pour foam into the “plug'n'clean” tank, which is connected to the nozzle. Keep in mind that the foam is sold in concentrated form, so it must be diluted with water in the ratio indicated on the package. When all the hoses are connected to the device, you can plug in the washer and start washing.

If you have separate products for rims and plastic surfaces, apply them to the contaminated areas. To do this, you can use a regular sprayer. While the chemistry reacts with the dirt, we move on to the main part of the work - contactless car washing.

Many car enthusiasts make the mistake of starting washing by soaking and removing the main dirt. If you want to achieve a perfectly clean surface without streaks, you must follow the technology from start to finish. In particular, the foam should be applied to dry dirt, as a result of which it reacts better.

It is necessary to apply the composition with horizontal movements, from bottom to top, but not vice versa. This is important because the lower strip, reacting with dirt, prevents the upper strip of foam from flowing down.

This not only saves money, but also improves the quality of washing.

Keep in mind that when applied, the foam strips should slightly overlap each other, due to this, there will be no untreated areas on the surface.

An important point is the exposure time of the foam to the dirt: if you wash off the detergent too early, it will not have time to react, and accordingly, the dirt will not be removed properly. If the foam is overexposed, the “raised” dirt will begin to fall onto the body in the form of sediment, which will subsequently lead to the formation of streaks. Therefore, it should remain on the surface of the body for 4-5 minutes.

We wash off the foam with a stream of clean water under high pressure. We start working with the wheels, and also pay maximum attention to the wheel arches.

Then we rinse the car in the same sequence in which the foam was applied - first we clean the sills, then the doors, fenders and windows, and lastly the roof. Don't forget to wash your rear view mirrors too.

We move the jet, like the foam, in horizontal movements, slightly overlapping each lower clean strip.

Pay attention to areas under license plates, moldings and other hard-to-reach places where dirt usually gets stuck.

If you wash them poorly, dirty streaks may appear underneath them later. To achieve the best results, the car needs to be rinsed again.

Now we direct the jet from top to bottom, i.e. I wash the body with vertical stripes, also overlapping each other.

A high-pressure stream of clean water perfectly cleanses dirt, knocking it out of all crevices

Now you need to apply a protective composition, for example, RM 824 - this is a wax that has an intense water-repellent effect. Keep in mind that the composition is applied manually using a spray bottle to all body surfaces, except glass and mirrors. Before use, be sure to dilute the product with water according to the instructions on the package, for example, RM 824 is diluted in a ratio of 1:9.

A few minutes later, after treating the surface with wax, turn on the device and wash off the protective coating with a stream of clean water under high pressure. The body is rinsed from wax in the same way as from foam, the only thing is that the jet must be directed at a close distance from the surface of the car - about 10 cm.

This completes the work with Karcher. Now you need to take a squeegee and use it to remove water from the surface of the car. After this, take a dry cloth and wipe the car with your own hands. As a result, there will be no streaks or traces of water drops on the surface.

To ensure that washing your car with a Karcher at home always gives the same results as professional car washes, follow the following recommendations:

  • do not wash your car in the sun, as shampoo and other chemicals will dry quickly without having time to react with dirt;
  • For the same reason, do not start washing the car immediately after the trip - let it cool. If this is not possible, start working with the doors, then move on to the wings and roof, and only lastly apply foam to the hood so that it has time to cool a little;
  • if the car body is wet after rain, let it dry;
  • You shouldn’t skimp on car chemicals, since cheap shampoos are unlikely to allow you to achieve good results;
  • Do not use regular shampoos to wash your car - high-pressure washers require special car chemicals.

That, in fact, is all you need to know to properly wash your car with a mini car wash or Karcher. The only thing, do not forget about safety - active foam, when it gets on concrete, forms a slippery surface, so try to immediately wash it off from the area around the car. Also, make sure that the washer hoses are not lying around under your feet.

How to wash your car at home

In clean transport, you and your loved ones will be in a comfortable and healthy environment. A freshly washed car will please your eyes, and the washing process can be quite relaxing. This is also a reason to spend time alone with your iron friend.

If you decide to wash the car yourself, you should prepare clothes, cleaning supplies and familiarize yourself with some rules for washing a car.

“Cleanliness is an indicator of civilization.” – Dina Dean (c).

Everything you need

Your clothes for water procedures

The car is full of various types of dirt and it’s not at all difficult to ruin clothes during washing. On your way, you may encounter such contaminants that it will be completely impossible to wash them off.

Choose clothes that you are not afraid of getting dirty or ruined.

When washing a car, you sometimes have to use excessive flexibility. Wearing loose clothing that does not restrict movement will make washing your car much more convenient.

Don't forget to take care of your hands - use gloves.

Selecting a location

Where is the best place to wash your car? In summer, it is better to wash your car in a shady area, as direct sunlight can cause temperature changes and damage the paintwork enamel of your car. In winter, washing must be done in heated rooms, such as a warm garage or underground parking. The reason is still the same - possible temperature changes that can cause harm.

Regardless of the time of year, do not forget about the laws on the protection of the environment and urban areas. For example, according to Article 8.42 of the Administrative Code, a fine is provided for washing a car on the protective coastal strip of a reservoir. And according to Article 8.13 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, a fine is implied for polluting a reservoir. The fine can range from 1,500 thousand to 4,500 thousand rubles. Do not wash your car in prohibited areas.

It also doesn't have to be a public place. It is necessary to choose a washing location from the point of view of your convenience and practicality. The space should be free enough so that nothing hinders your actions and washing is convenient. In a place where you could easily place several buckets of water and everything you need. We were also able to dry the rugs.

Care products

Even when washing yourself, we recommend using only specialized detergents. Conventional chemicals may contain abrasive substances that will harm the enamel of your iron friend and ruin the appearance of the plastic elements.

When purchasing detergent, please note that good automotive chemicals should be viscous and with bubbles. You can purchase automotive chemicals, both foreign and domestic.

The best way to wash your car at home is of course a matter of practicality, but we recommend using only specialized rags, napkins and sponges. An ordinary sponge or rag leaves streaks and scratches the car body.

The main set looks like this:

  • Two special sponges for external and internal cleaning,
  • Several microfiber cloths
  • Rubber brush,
  • Brush with medium soft bristles,
  • Car detergent,
  • Glass cleaner,
  • Regular interior detergent
  • From two buckets of water of the same temperature,
  • Gloves.

Additionally, special products can be used for polishing the body and cleaning the interior. Also protective means, for example, to protect the body from insects or difficult to remove substances that fall on the body on the road.

Wash correctly

How to properly wash a car at home? Washing can take up to three hours plus drying, depending on how many areas of your car you want to freshen.

It should be noted in advance that some stains cannot be cleaned manually. Don't be upset if you can't get rid of a stubborn stain. Typically, such stains can be removed in a professional car wash, using special products or polishing methods.

  1. Take out everything that may interfere with your cleaning from the interior. Pull out the rugs. Use a vacuum cleaner or brush to remove all kinds of dirt and dust from inside the car. If you want to tidy up the trunk, you should also empty it in advance.
  2. Spray the body of your car. This will keep the dirt moist so you can easily remove it without leaving mud marks. Wet the entire body generously, including small external elements, wheels and fender liners.
  3. Apply the detergent and carefully spread it over the surface of the car with a special sponge. Distribute until the machine foams sufficiently. Leave in the foam for 10 minutes.
  4. Start washing your car with light, top-to-bottom movements. Do not press on the sponge, as there may be hard particles on it that can scratch the enamel. Wash from roof to bottom. Don't be afraid of water getting under the radiator. Wash the radiator grille and hood. Don't forget about doorways and rims too.
  5. Perform the pour again. Don't skimp on water. Go over all the areas with the sponge again, moistening it with clean water. For better results, this step must be repeated.
  6. Take a microfiber cloth and wipe the surface of the car dry. Collect the water and wring out the cloth until the surface is dry enough. Wait 10 minutes and then repeat this step again.
  7. Wipe glass and mirrors with a clean microfiber cloth and apply a small amount of glass cleaner. Also, do not forget to wipe the top of the glass. Wipe the mirrors and glass with a dry cloth. If the body gets wet at this stage, wipe it dry.
  8. Having finished the body, you should move on to cleaning the interior. To clean the seats, use a damp sponge and brush, and almost any detergent. If there is a lot of hair present, a rubber brush works well. It picks up hair well and is easy to rinse. Plastic elements can be cleaned using a brush with medium soft bristles. A regular toothbrush can also do the job.

How to properly wash a car by hand?

To wash or not to wash – that is the question, and it is far from rhetorical. A car, like a person, needs periodic washing, and there are many ways to clean it. Therefore, you need to know how to properly wash your car.

Manual car wash

Paid car washes are used by lazy or very busy car enthusiasts, but the owner who madly loves and appreciates his steel friend and wants to truly take care of him will always find time to clean the car himself.

is the easiest way to clean your car from dirt. To bring the process to life, you need to stock up on the appropriate equipment:

  • bucket;
  • suede napkin;
  • microfiber cloth;
  • telescopic brush with a foam roller, as well as with water removal;
  • sponge is porous;
  • brush for cleaning wheel rims;
  • car shampoo.

You will need a decent amount of water if you want your car to really sparkle. It is advisable to use running water or a large reservoir, but with the condition to ensure its cleanliness and eliminate the possibility of the outflow of contaminated water into it.

Shampoo for car washing is selected based on the hardness of the water used, as well as the degree of contamination of the vehicle.

If you don’t know how to properly wash a car manually, then we’ll get ahead of ourselves and say it’s extremely simple. The whole procedure consists of several stages.

Bringing shine and cleanliness

Spray your car from top to bottom with plenty of water. Most of it should end up on the body and wheels, which are the most contaminated areas of the car. The glass will need less moisture. This step will allow you to knock off the “collected” first layer of pollution, which consists of silicates and organic particles, from the surface of the body.

Lather the car well with car shampoo. With its help, the second layer of pollution will be removed, which usually consists of dust, tar, and soot from exhaust gases. It is important to remember that we only use warm water. This condition is necessary for normal dissolution of the detergent and the formation of a composition suitable for washing.

We leave the car soapy for a while, giving the shampoo time to have a cleansing effect on the dirt. The time cannot be predetermined, since it will completely depend on the degree of contamination of the car. While the dirt is soaking, you can use a brush to remove dirt deposits from the rims.

Wash off the previously applied shampoo with plenty of water. To do this, you can douse the car with several buckets of water or use a hose and water supply. We clean the soapy areas using a foam roller and a water squeegee. It is worth remembering that the squeegee is used to remove excess moisture from the glass.

We remove residual detergent and water from the car body, rims, glass, thresholds, doorways using special microfiber or suede cloths.

It is necessary to ensure that no streaks appear on the windows and the car body itself. If they appear, the rinsing procedure will have to be repeated again.

Over time, they can react with the paintwork and cause damage. Especially if there are chips and/or scratches on the car body.

The final stage is marked by thoroughly drying the car. If necessary, the car body can be polished to a shine using special wipes.

Washing a car using technical means

Although hand washing is an easy option for cleaning your car from various types of contaminants, there is an even faster way to remove dirt from it.

Portable mini-wash

In this case, the car is cleaned using a special technical means that supplies water and cleaning components under high pressure.

With its help, it is possible to remove not only the first layers of dirt described above, but even synthetic resins and oxides, which are quite firmly attached to the body and rims of the car, thereby damaging its paintwork.

To do this, as already mentioned, you need to know how to properly wash your car.

To clean the car in this way, you will also need additional napkins and a water bottle. Cleaning also occurs in several stages:

  1. A strong jet of water from the sprayer removes the primary adhering dirt. If in the case of manual washing we poured water from top to bottom, then in this case “moistening” occurs in a wide variety of directions.
  2. Using low pressure, apply a layer of weak foam concentrate to the car. It is necessary for more effective removal of the first two previously described levels of pollution.
  3. Rinse the surface of the car with plenty of water.
  4. We apply the main detergent to the car under high pressure, and this is done from the bottom up. After applying this composition, you need to leave it in this state for about five minutes. At this time, you need to start cleaning the wheel rims, bottom, and suspension elements from contamination.
  5. After the specified time has passed, rinse the surface of the car with a large volume of water, and remove its remains using a squeegee or special napkins.
  6. The final step is to wipe the car dry without neglecting interior surfaces such as doorways and sills.

Automatic washing

This type of car cleaning consists of mechanical brushes scurrying around the body of your vehicle. This type of car dirt removal is intended for commercial vehicles, such as taxis or minibuses. Owners of such cars should not think about the appearance of their steel horse, since after a certain time it will be replaced by another.

Therefore, if the question arises: to be dirty or to use a mechanical car wash, then preference should always be given to dirt. Why? Because today we are considering the topic of how to properly wash a car, and our plans do not contain a point on how to quickly and easily, and even for your own money, remove the varnish coating from the body.

Secrets of car cleanliness

Continuing the topic of how to properly wash a car, we want to give you a few secrets that can keep your steel friend shiny and clean for a long time.

Never wash your car until the body has cooled down sufficiently. If a hot body comes into contact with water, a chemical reaction is possible that can provoke corrosive processes.

It is recommended to wash your car with special detergents no more than twice a month due to the presence of components in shampoos that affect the paintwork of the vehicle.

How to wash your car yourself and prevent stains? + video

Not only does a dirty car look completely unpresentable, it can also become a reason for a fine, so it is better to think in advance about how to properly wash the car yourself without streaks and drips.

How to wash your car yourself and what is the best way to do it?

It would seem that what’s so difficult about rinsing your car from road dust that has settled on it? Nobody argues, it's really quite simple.

But if dirt has stuck to the polished surface of the body, it will be much more difficult to get rid of it.

Simply wiping it off will not work, due to the fact that twigs, grains of sand and pebbles, which are usually contained in mud slurry, can easily scratch the smooth surface of the case. Therefore, you need to know how to quickly wash your car with your own hands in a garage or near a river.

You should first spray the car with several buckets of water, or water it under pressure from a hose, which is not always available. Let's stick to buckets. Additionally, you will need a sponge, a soft brush and a microfiber cloth.

 The primary task is to soak the dried dirt stuck to the polished surface; for greater effect, add a little special shampoo to a bucket of water.

There are special car cosmetics that easily penetrate any dirt.

There may also be bird droppings on the surface of the body, as well as the juice of various fruits from trees growing along the side of the road. All this must be watered with an intensive cleaning agent before washing. When we are sure that everything is sufficiently wet, take a soft sponge and carefully remove all the dirt.

Cleaning should begin from the roof, then moving to the windows and then to the body, that is, in the direction of the water drainage. When there is no trace left of the stains, thoroughly spray the car with clean water to wash off the shampoo. Then the surface needs to be dried, then there will be no streaks left.

Finally, you can use wax for polishing.

From time to time, especially in winter, the underbody and wheel arches should be washed. It is almost impossible to do this with a bucket, so it is advisable to purchase a compact sprayer with a compressor.

With the help of such a device, from a fairly large tank of which water is supplied under pressure to the nozzle, you can wash off almost any dirt in a non-contact way, including from the bottom. In winter, ice freezes there, and there is always enough dirt in the wheel arches, especially in rainy weather.

Good pressure will remove all this perfectly; all that remains is to check whether the anti-corrosion coating has been damaged and, if necessary, renew it. Before washing the underbody of the car, make sure the water is cold, otherwise the temperature difference will damage the mastic.

How to wash a car without water and is it possible?

If you use traditional shampoos and standard cleaning methods, it is not advisable to save on water. A striking example of this are car washers who offer their services at traffic lights and in traffic jams.

It seems like it’s great to quickly get your car in order, but with a small amount of water, young people, before wiping off the dirt, smear it over the body, scratching it. The results of several such washes will be visible to the naked eye.

Therefore, if you find yourself in a situation where there are no other options but to wash your car without water, don’t worry - there are special shampoos that do not require an ounce of additional moisture.

The substance applied to the surface quickly dilutes the dirt, after which this specialized shampoo is washed off with a microfiber cloth. Movements should be made in one direction, for example, on the hood - from the glass to the bumper, on the roof - from the middle to the edges.

 It is extremely undesirable to make circular movements with a rag, since this will smear the dirt rather than remove it. One wash usually takes 5th of the bottle; in addition, you need several napkins, since after one gets dirty, it’s better to take another, clean one.

Microfiber should be washed in an automatic machine with a gentle spin.

How to wash a car at a car wash - a few tips

Even if you know how to properly wash a car yourself at home, you may not have this opportunity. Some houses do not have yards, and the entrances open directly onto the sidewalk of the street. Not all garages have access to water, nor do they have sewerage.

Therefore, many people have to resort to car washes. They always offer two options for processing a vehicle: contact and non-contact.

The first involves pumping with a jet of water under high pressure, the second - exclusively working with a washcloth and other available means.

Before you wash your car at a car wash, be sure to look around the facility where you will be provided with a service to put your car in order. If there are unkempt workers in dirty overalls, it means that your transport at the end of the procedure will not be in its best shape.

Carefully read the types of services, otherwise you risk getting a completely different result than you expect if you say that you want to make a mess.

Show employees hard-to-reach areas in advance, take valuables from the car and you can step aside, giving the specialists freedom of action.

How to properly wash your car at a self-service car wash - Kolesa.ru

Lately, self-service car washes have sprung up at every step, where you can deposit money into a payment terminal and wave a high-pressure water gun to your heart's content. But is this kind of washing really beneficial? And if so, how to use it correctly?

The self-service car washes that appeared en masse did not leave car enthusiasts indifferent: 50 rubles for a couple of minutes of working with a “gun” seems to be profitable and interesting. But it quickly became clear that “self-washing” is less effective than classic washing, in which the gun is in the hands of a professional cleaner... Why? There are two reasons for this.

The professional high pressure washer is very powerful. It is much more powerful than any household, garage or country house one. And it’s one thing when an instructed and at least trained washing employee works with it, and another thing when anyone wants to, sometimes taking a pistol for the first time.

If you handle the water “knife” carelessly, you can cause serious injury, tear off the paint from the body, break the windshield wipers, and cut through the hood insulation. What if children take him to play? The “self-service” car wash is open to everyone... All this may end in legal claims against the owners of the self-service car wash.

Therefore, in high-pressure apparatuses at “self-washing stations” this very pressure is seriously limited.

Thus, they kill three birds with one stone - with a weak stream, the client cannot accidentally damage something in his body or in the car, the Karcher pump works in a lighter mode with an increased resource, and the lousy cleaning capabilities of such a gun force clients to buy additional, extra minutes of work...

The second reason for the poor quality of washing in self-service areas is the excessively economical concentration of detergent in the automatic system. The first “self-washers” that appeared were generally washed with water under pressure, into which shampoo was continuously mixed.

This useless mode was practically no different in “efficiency” from a stream of clean water from the same gun... However, very soon the full application of alkaline foam appeared in the mode selection programs, in which you can already fill the body with it, wait a minute for the shampoo to take effect, and only then rinse it off with clean water.

This option turned out to be more effective, but still weak due to the too low concentration of detergent.

Is “self-washing” profitable?

At the time of preparation of this material in the Moscow region, at car washes without particularly bright brand signs, the cost of washing a B-class passenger sedan was 200, less often 250 rubles.

This is the price for a contactless wash with concentrated shampoo and a powerful, full-fledged high-pressure apparatus, followed by wiping the body dry.

Moreover, this cost does not depend on the initial degree of contamination of the body, and ultimately, after fifteen minutes of leafing through tattered magazines near the coffee machine, you have a clean and dry car.

If you take a relatively dirty car to a “self-wash” and for the same 200 rubles choose two cycles of 2 minutes with chemicals and two cycles of 2 minutes of rinsing with clean water, then in the end after ten minutes of running around you will get a not very clean and completely wet car , as well as damp shoes and trousers splashed with mud.

Yes, you can wash it yourself at the very least. And the result will be clearly better than before washing.

However, if the goal is a really clean body, then for a car with average dirt, and even more so for a fairly dirty one, “self-washing” is most often unprofitable! We don’t even talk about additional payments for “applying wax” or other nonsense, dousing with “demineralized” water, which is designed to replace wiping without leaving traces of drying drops, and the like - this is pure money down the drain.

When is washing beneficial?

And in what cases is “self-washing” beneficial? And it is most profitable only when you pay for one two-minute fifty-ruble cycle. Not more! Yes, this option is not for washing a dirty car clean.

But this allows, without having your own high-pressure apparatus, to cheaply clean dust from a long-standing car, knock off fresh damp dirt after driving on dirt roads, or remove snow from the body in winter.

In these cases, “self-washing” is completely justified and makes sense.

Better yet, keep a spray bottle in the trunk in advance (universal garage and garden sprayers with a volume of two liters with a built-in pump are excellent) with washing chemicals diluted in the correct concentration, and not liquid-pre-liquid, as the “self-wash” suggests. By applying the composition in advance to the dry body of a lightly contaminated car, for a ridiculous 50 rubles you can wash yourself quite nicely...

Conventionally, the “hundred-ruble option” can also be considered rational, when you pay for two washing cycles separately, in fifty dollars, and not with one 100-ruble bill. First, you knock off a tangible layer of dirt with water, then apply washing chemicals from your spray bottle, wait a couple of minutes and pay for another cycle - wash off the foam and dirt.

Visual check

We whipped up a simple device for measuring the force of a water jet from high-pressure washing guns. Structurally, it consists of a plywood “flag” on a rotating axis, which deviates at a certain angle from the pressure of the water jet. The movement of the “flag” is resisted by the spring of a household steelyard, whose scale indicates the force of water pressure.

The steelyard scale was initially marked at 10 kilograms, but in our case the units of measurement are conventional and do not correspond to kilograms - the standard steelyard spring was too strong, and we replaced it.

This is not a problem, because we do not need measurements in kilograms, but rather “conventional units” to simply visually evaluate the difference in the pressure of the Karcher jet at a traditional car wash and at a self-service car wash.

With this “device” we went to explore nearby car washes.

We hope that readers will forgive us for the lack of photos of the actual process - we felt sorry for the camera, because the splashes flew in all directions quite abundantly... One way or another, the simple device turned out to be quite functional and clearly showed the difference between a “self-wash” and a traditional wash.

The power of the gun at a self-service car wash turned out to be more than two times lower than at a regular car wash! The first one scored 4 “points” on the scale, the second – exactly 10. You probably couldn’t imagine a more clear demonstration of the weakness and ineffectiveness of the “self-wash”...

With the help of this device, we simply wanted to visually, and not verbally, show the difference in the strength of the jet from the guns at a regular car wash and at a “self-wash”. However, a visit to several “self-washers” showed an even more curious thing: at different self-service car washes, the pressure can differ noticeably from each other.

At three different points, pressures of 3.5, 4 and 5 conventional “points” were noted.

Actually, any of these values is not entirely suitable for normal washing, but, nevertheless, the difference between the minimum and maximum is quite significant... So if you are going to use the services of such a service, then at least find one with a more powerful jet.

How to properly wash your car with high pressure yourself

Most novice car enthusiasts are interested in only two questions related to car washing: when is it necessary to wash it and where to find the time for this. Whereas experienced drivers know that the most pressing issue is the safety of the vehicle’s paintwork. It is this that is exposed to high pressure of water and synthetic reagents of auto chemicals during washing.

A jet of water directed under high pressure can not only wash away dust from the body, clean dirt from disks and arches, but can also damage the paintwork. Car shampoo also contributes to this. The chemicals included in its composition effectively wash away various contaminants, but can also cause damage.

Frequency of car washing in the warm season

It is difficult to find the correct answer to this question, but there are some facts and plausible hypotheses on the basis of which conclusions can be drawn.

We can safely say that you need to wash your car as needed. The logic is very simple: there are very few people who drive the same car all their lives. More than half of car owners change vehicles once every ten years, and only one third change every five years.

On a car that has been in use for more than five years, dents, scratches, corrosion, tar and many other little things will appear due to natural causes. What's the point of thinking about the excess pressure of a car wash and the harm of auto chemicals when the vehicle is far from new and is also covered in dirt.

There are several reasons why you should wash your car:

  • Daily care, regardless of condition.
  • The appearance of dust on the surface.
  • Smudges that appear after precipitation.
  • Multi-layered contamination after long-term use.

Everyone is free to choose for themselves what is a reason for them to wash their iron horse.

The need to wash your car in winter

The issue of car cleanliness in winter is very difficult. How useful or harmful it is for the car, each car enthusiast makes his own decision and is responsible for it.

Most of those who drive in winter wash their vehicles based on weather conditions. If it snows or thaws, there is no point in washing off the dirt. On the same day it will recover and will have to be washed again.

If the temperature drops below ten degrees below zero, washing the car is even dangerous. Water getting into locks and cracks will definitely freeze. In this case, the locks stop working and you have to warm them up. The rubber seals on the doors will begin to freeze and quickly become unusable, and may even burst.

It is recommended to wash or rinse the car body only in the interval between thaw and frost. So, you can protect it a little from salt and other reagents that are sprinkled on roads in winter.

Where to wash

Basically, washing a car can be divided into two options:

  • Car wash.
  • Self-wash.

Car wash comes in the form of a service, when specialist washers service your vehicle. The second option is when the driver uses car wash equipment and washes himself.

Self-washing also has two options, the first is when you wash the car using a rag, sponge or brush. The second is using specialized home washing equipment.

Rags and sponges are a thing of the past; they damage the coating, scratch and leave streaks. There is no point in convincing anyone that special equipment is best for washing.

A simple question remains: where to wash? - at a car wash from a professional or there yourself , or you can buy washing equipment and wash it yourself in the garage, decide for yourself. It’s just worth paying attention to small nuances that you may not even remember.

There is a constant turnover of staff at the car washes, the professionalism of the washer is in doubt, in general, they have never been particularly diligent. They wash cars because they get paid for it.

When you have little time and need to wash, self-washing services using specialized equipment are perfect. It's fast and convenient, but you have to pay for it.

But the best option to keep your car clean is to purchase a Karcher mini-wash. There are only a couple of requirements for this: water for washing and a place where to wash the car.

Now, consider the requirements of any of the options listed above.

Washer services

The most important factor in this option is conscientious workers and personal experience gained at various car washes. If you have no or insufficient experience, we advise you to ask familiar car owners who regularly use such services. Ask the best car wash to see what they recommend, and take the time to go and have a look yourself.

At a car wash that enjoys a good reputation, you must sign up for a queue in advance. At the same time, you should decide what specific services interest you. There are different names for services: “express” or “light”, it doesn’t matter, what matters is what is included in these services. This may be a contactless or contact wash, or may include both of these services together.

Approximate list of services at all stations:

  • Removing dirt with clean water.
  • Removing dirt by wiping the body manually.
  • Cleaning the body using car shampoo (foam).
  • Foam washing followed by hand drying.
  • Washing with waxing.

Contact washing services include:

  • Washing the body and then wiping it off.
  • Washing, shampooing and hand drying.
  • Washing and waxing.

As a rule, it is customary to offer additional services at stations:

  • Cleaning the salon.
  • Tires painted black.
  • Washing the engine and compartment.
  • Body polishing.

The owner of the transport himself determines which services to use: depending on the cost, weather conditions or necessity, it can be a whole complex.

When you haven’t gone to a car wash for a long time, you order dirt removal using foam, waxing, and lining the tires with black. The car drives like new, shines and sparkles.

For those who don’t like to be bothered by the beauty of their “car”, we offer a simple contactless car wash, quick and cheap.

When it comes to general cleaning or pre-sale preparation, several options are always used. Touchless washing and active foam - of course. Next comes: cleaning and dry cleaning of the interior, engine compartment, wax and tires.

After choosing a service, drive the car into the wash bay. You should turn off the engine, put the handbrake on, and when leaving, close all doors tightly. Only after this can the washer begin work.

All you have to do is wait for the work to be completed, check the quality of work, pay for everything and leave satisfied.

Car wash services for personal use of equipment

There are a few things to consider before using this service. You need to find out the rental price and what is included.

The fact is that the cost may depend on the time the equipment is used or on the amount of water spent. The price may include car cosmetics, and the time is very often limited. You will have to prepare in advance before turning to such services.

How to wash your car well yourself

The most interesting thing is to wash the car yourself and not at a rental car wash. Car owners prefer to do this using a household mini-wash.

Various devices of various modifications are sold in the trade, but the most popular of them are mini-washes from Karcher. The equipment was created in order to wash your car yourself, quickly and easily, at home.

It is always beneficial to use branded equipment. In addition to the device itself, additional components and related products of appropriate quality are offered.

Rinse

If desired, the motorist can quickly rinse the vehicle. Using water pressure, not only dirt and dust are removed from the body, the wheels are easily washed and the wheel arches are cleared of deposits.

Depending on the weather conditions, you can decide for yourself whether to wipe off any remaining water from the body or not. If you don’t have enough time, then this doesn’t matter.

Thorough washing

An operation like this takes a good chunk of time. Of course, you should start with regular rinsing. At the same time, pay attention not only to external dust and dirt, but also apply pressure to the wheels and arches.

To really wash your car properly, you need to use several types of cleaning products. We recommend purchasing a product for cleaning rims, rubber, plastic and plastic, as well as for the paintwork of your car.

The product is applied to the surface according to the instructions and left. It needs some time to be absorbed and produce the desired effect. Then comes the main body treatment.

To do this, use a special nozzle-container into which a high-pressure cleaner is poured. This device, thanks to physics, turns detergent into foam. The foam is applied from bottom to top, over the entire surface. They are not limited to one layer, but apply two layers.

After standing for a few minutes, foam begins to flow from the walls, this is a signal. Gradually, holding the water stream at an angle of 45°, wash off the foam. Having finished removing the foam, you need to run water over the entire surface again for residual rinsing.

Special microfiber rags are sold for wiping the surface dry. Using such towels will be very useful. Before applying wax or polish , make sure there are no smudges or streaks.

To give the tires a fresher look, a special ink is sold. A small thing, but nice.

How to wash in winter

The need and features of winter washing have already been said, but as for specific recommendations, they have not touched upon.

In winter, it is recommended to wash the car using exclusively cold water. A sharp change in temperature has a negative effect on paint and varnish. Microcracks appear on the coating, and condensation provokes the formation of metal corrosion. There are cases of cracks appearing on the windshield.

Before applying shampoo, you should wash off all the snow and ice, otherwise there is no point in treating with shampoo. When you finish washing, you should try to thoroughly wipe away all the moisture to avoid the formation of a crust.

How to wash properly

Contactless washing

When using a household mini-wash, you must use products recommended by the manufacturer. In this case, they will cope well with the responsibilities assigned to them, namely:

  • cope with various contaminants;
  • protect the paintwork.

When coating with wax, you should choose wax with the effect of intense water repellence; it will also add excellent shine.

Contact washing

To wash your car well yourself, you need to purchase a car shampoo that can be washed by hand. Apply it using a special sponge. The time for applying the foam is enough so that you don’t have to waste it waiting for the composition to take effect; you can immediately start rinsing off.

After this, you can safely treat the hood and the rest of the body with wax, if necessary.

Don’t forget that in order to make car care easier and improve its appearance, you can resort to specialized products , such as:

  • disk cleaner;
  • insect removers;
  • plastic cleaner;
  • tire ink.

How to wash a car by hand

Before you start washing your car, you need to wet it with water using a bucket or hose. This makes it possible to wash away light dust and wet old dirt to make it easier to wash.

Car shampoo is diluted in a bucket and applied to the body. If you let it sit for a while, the shampoo will work better. In a situation where the car has not been washed for a long time, or there is a lot of dirt, you will have to soap the car again.

After washing off the detergent, wipe the surface dry using a special rag. Now is the time to polish the body and rub the tires, if there is such a desire or need.

Now you know exactly how to wash your car without streaks.
