Fan windshield washer nozzles: advantages and disadvantages

How to select and install windshield washer nozzles

Fan windshield washer nozzles: advantages and disadvantages

A good overview of the road situation through the windshield of the car allows the driver to safely drive the car in heavy traffic conditions. Therefore, the condition of the windshield needs to be given proper attention.

Meteorological precipitation and temperature differences outside and inside the cabin worsen the transparency of the glass, negatively affecting the safety of control.

Dirt from under the wheels, stuck insects, snow and rain streams from the outside of the glass should be removed as quickly as possible by a cleaning system consisting of automatic mechanical wipers, front and rear window washers, and a reservoir with antifreeze liquid.

Operation of windshield washer nozzles

Fan windshield washer nozzles are a more recent and fashionable development of the system for supplying water to the glass, compared to the classic jet water sprayers. They have their own application features, knowledge of which will allow car enthusiasts to more consciously approach the choice of one type of injector or another.

Fan windshield washer nozzles - positive and negative aspects

The main distinctive feature of sector spray nozzles is the formation of a wide front of small splashes of washing liquid, like rain, which completely covers the entire surface of the windshield, in contrast to jet nozzles, which supply a stream of water only to certain areas in front of the driver and front passenger. This water consumption system is more economical and efficient in terms of quality and speed of glass cleaning.

The advantages of fan windshield washer nozzles include:

  • Dust, dirt, and insects are removed more completely and efficiently due to uniform wetting of a larger area of glass.
  • At the very first stroke, the wiper blades move along the wetted surface of the glass, washing away rather than pulling away dirt, achieving faster cleaning of the glass.
  • Savings from “anti-freeze”, designed for effective glass cleaning, which is expressed in a considerable amount during intensive use of the car in urban and unfavorable climatic conditions.
  • The number of micro-scratches on the windshield that appear as a result of the wiper blades moving dry is reduced.

The disadvantages of the fan method of wetting glass include:

Short-term decrease in visibility when injectors are operating

  • Once drops of liquid are splashed onto the windshield, visibility of the road is lost until the windshield wipers wipe them away. This can irritate some drivers, which is the reason they refuse to use fan injectors in favor of jet ones.
  • Fan nozzles are more susceptible to freezing than jet nozzles. In the conditions of the Russian North, they can operate reliably only with the use of a special heating system.

Selecting fan windshield washer nozzles

Jet and fan nozzles

The ideal case is to purchase branded injectors designed for use on this specific car model.

Today, many manufacturers of automobile accessories produce such original injectors for a specific make and model of car.

In addition, there are universal types of fan nozzles that can be adapted for use on different brands and models of machines. In some cases, minor modifications may be possible.

Universal fan injectors are considered to be products numbered 30655605 and 7845009010 in the catalog of car parts from Volvo and Ssang Yong. The first ones are used as standard injectors on the Volvo S80.

Both products are absolutely identical in design, but differ in price. A “Korean” costs almost twice as much as a “Swede”. But Volvo injectors are considered more prestigious.

Both of them can be used on other brands of cars, in particular on Daewoo, Subaru, Toyota, Mazda and others.

An alternative option could be injectors from the Toyota concern for business class cars. They can also be used on various car models.

But here you need to know that the kit includes only one nozzle, so when purchasing a product from a catalog, you should repeat the order twice to get two nozzles per car.

To replace your standard jet nozzles with fan nozzles, you need to purchase the nozzles themselves and a tee with hoses and a check valve.

Video: Lada Granta - installation and testing of fan washer nozzles

Selection of wiper check valve

The standard washer design may not have a check valve, which is designed to prevent liquid from flowing from the hoses back into the reservoir when the suction pump is turned off. The valve ensures continuity of liquid supply, especially when the pump is turned on, since air does not enter the pipelines through the nozzle holes.

The valve is a regular spring-loaded ball that closes the nozzle hole in the absence of liquid pressure. The system can also be used without a check valve. Then it is necessary to provide a mechanical or electrical circuit for delaying the start of movement of the wipers relative to the moment of water supply.

The liquid must have time to pass through the hoses from the reservoir to the nozzles before the wipers start working.

Universal check valve for Toyota injectors

Here you can use a check valve for Zhiguli models 8 and 9 under number 21080-5208550-00 in the VAZ parts catalog or a check valve from the fuel system under number 2108-1156010-01.

You can also use imported valves, for example, for Volvo brands - part number 30896546 or for Toyota brands - 85321-26020.

As an alternative, it is worth considering the use of a ready-made tee with a built-in check valve for Mitsubishi - part number M850641.

A non-standard, but acceptable solution is to use a check valve used in an aquarium air compressor. It is usually located in the outlet pipe of the compressor and is highly reliable and efficient.

In addition to this, you can also purchase a flexible silicone tube at the pet store for making pipes for the check valve and nozzles, which are used to supply air to the aquarium.

In terms of adaptability to temperature changes and service life, this tube is much superior to the standard hoses used in Zhiguli cars.

Installation of fan-type windshield washer nozzles

Kit for installing fan washer nozzles (nozzles themselves, tubes, check valves)

The procedure for installing fan nozzles involves performing the following work:

  • removing the hood trim, if installed, by carefully removing the plastic pistons without breaking, using special tools or two flat-head screwdrivers;
  • dismantling the buffer foam pads secured with double-sided tape (reinstalling them will require new tape) and detaching the lining on the plastic parts;
  • disconnecting the tubes supplying liquid from the standard nozzles;
  • dismantling old injectors, which can be attached to the hood or frame using plastic clips or fastening nuts;
  • connecting the pipe to the fan nozzles and pre-installing them in their standard places without final fixation;
  • connecting check valves to the washer fluid pipelines and injector nozzles, securing them securely;
  • checking the functionality of the system and adjusting the direction of the liquid fan onto the windshield;
  • final fixation of the nozzles.

When installing and adjusting nozzles, it may be necessary to adjust the holes, adjust the nozzles in size, direction, height and position inclination.

To do this, you need to trim, file, or, conversely, build up the base of the nozzles using tools and rubber or plastic gaskets.

As a result, it is necessary to ensure that the area of liquid splashing on the surface of the glass is maximum, but does not go beyond its limits.

How to adjust windshield washer nozzles

Many car owners have thought about installing fan-type windshield washer nozzles instead of the standard ones.

Fan nozzles have a number of advantages: they spray water over a large area of glass, improve visibility, and this affects safety, and reduce the consumption of windshield washer fluid.

Why are fan injectors needed, what advantages and disadvantages do they have, how much do fan injectors cost and how to choose them for your car - read about this in our article.

Fan washer nozzles

What are fan washer nozzles

Recently, many car manufacturers have begun to install fan-shaped windshield washer nozzles on their models, which differ in that the windshield washer fluid is supplied to the glass not in two or three separate jets, but in a front of small drops that immediately fall on a large area of the windshield. The differences in the operation of classic two-jet washer jets and fan jets can be seen very well in this video.

On one car, both conventional injectors (left) and fan injectors (right) are installed simultaneously.

Advantages and disadvantages of fan windshield washer nozzles

If you have not yet decided whether you need to install fan-shaped windshield washer nozzles, let’s look at the main advantages and disadvantages of this design.

Advantages of fan nozzles:

  • More uniform supply of washer fluid over almost the entire area of the windshield. This allows the windshield wiper blades to clean the glass more effectively, making the first swipe across already wet glass rather than spreading dirt.
  • The removal of all types of solid contaminants, plaque, and insects is improved due to the uniform distribution of liquid over a large area.
  • The risk of scratching the glass when the wiper blade is running dry is reduced.
  • Some car owners note a decrease in windshield washer fluid consumption.

Disadvantages of fan nozzles:

  • Due to their design features, fan nozzles are more susceptible to freezing in cold weather. This is why heated fan nozzles are often used.
  • A large area of glass to which washer fluid is applied can lead to loss of normal visibility for some time, even if the glass is clean.

Selection of fan nozzles

The first and easiest option is to select original injectors specifically for your car. Sometimes such injectors are supplied as an option or as an element of richer configurations.

If the original fan injectors are not provided for your model or you want to save money, you should think about selecting alternative injectors that will immediately fit your car or with minor modifications.

I’ll tell you the truth right away - universal fan-shaped windshield washer nozzles do not exist! That is, what fits perfectly on one model may not fit on another at all (most often due to the angle of inclination, they spray either low or on the roof).

The most common option that the Internet is full of is injectors from Volvo S80, Volvo model number 30655605. Suitable for a wide variety of cars. There are examples of installation on Toyota, Subaru, Daewoo (and some other Koreans), Mazda (3 and 6) cars and a number of others.

Cost - 350 rubles per piece.

By the way, there is much less information about this, but there is a very interesting and, most importantly, absolutely identical and inexpensive option - this is Ssang Yong 7845009010. In fact, this is an exact clone of VOLVO 30655605 fan washer nozzles - accordingly, it will be suitable for the same cars. Cost - 160 rubles per piece! as they say, feel the difference.

fan injectors Ssang Yong 7845009010

Another good and very popular option is the fan injector from Camry (number 85381-AA042). They fit many cars, there are a lot of positive reviews on the drive and the price is quite affordable (about 300 rubles per piece).

Injectors from VW-Skoda, catalog number 3b0955985, fit well on Daewoo Lanos and Chevrolet Aveo. The cost is about 300 rubles per piece.

Almost all Mitsubishi models, except Grandis, Pajero Sport, Pajero 4, Outlander XL, are suitable for injectors from the American Galant 2008. Catalog numbers MR300201 and MR300202. The price is approximately 400 rubles.

Installation of fan washer nozzles

Installing fan washer nozzles instead of standard jet ones usually does not cause any particular difficulties. Depending on the car model, injectors can be installed either without additional modifications or with some nuances associated, for example, with adjusting the height of the injectors.

On some vehicles the spray area may be very high. You can solve this problem by placing a sealant or two or three layers of electrical tape under the back of the nozzle. Sometimes the lower part of the body of fan nozzles turns out to be slightly wider than the previously installed jet counterparts.

in this case, you will have to sharpen the body a little so that the nozzle fits into place.

What is needed to install fan nozzles

To replace standard injectors with fan injectors, you need to buy:

  • set of fan windshield washer nozzles;
  • check valve;
  • new hoses;
  • tee.

Check valve selection

A check valve is necessary for installing windshield washer fan nozzles, so if it is not in the washer fluid supply system on your car, it must be purchased and installed.

The purpose of the check valve is to ensure stable pressure in the system and prevent liquid from draining into the tank immediately after the pump is turned off. It is thanks to the check valve that when the washer is turned on, the liquid is supplied to the washer fan nozzles without delay and the wipers do not scratch the dry glass.

The design of such a valve is quite simple. Inside there is a spring-loaded ball that blocks the passage of windshield washer fluid when there is no pressure in the system.

Only one valve is needed and it is installed in front of the tee. If we place it in front of each nozzle, this will reduce the force of the jet.

The washer system valve from Toyota 85321-26020 is quite suitable. Cost - 50 rubles.

Check valve Toyota 85321-26020

Installation procedure for fan nozzles:

  • Raise the hood and remove the trim, if present.
  • Remove the fluid supply tubes from the injectors.
  • Remove the standard jet nozzles. To do this, release the clamps and push them up from their place.
  • Connect a check valve if it is not provided.
  • Install the fan washer nozzles in their original locations. Modify if necessary.
  • Connect the fluid supply hoses to the injectors.

Adjusting the fan washer nozzles

Fan windshield washer nozzles do not require adjustment. As a rule, only the fan nozzle itself is inserted into the housing, in which there are simply no moving elements. Accordingly, there is nothing to regulate.

If the spray area of the fan nozzles is very high or, conversely, too low, the only way to solve this problem is to place a sealant or two or three layers of electrical tape under the back or front of the nozzle.

There are still questions. Would you like to add something? Leave comments!

Choosing fan-type universal windshield washer nozzles

Publication date: July 05, 2016.

Maximum visibility is very important for any driver, so car manufacturers pay great attention to the windshield cleaning process, which includes the operation of several systems.

Thanks to wipers, proper flow of oncoming air flow and nozzles, car owners always clearly and clearly see what is happening on the road surface.

However, if one of these systems fails, the other will not be able to perform at the required level, which is why it is necessary to correctly select such important elements as nozzles or, as they are also called, jets.

To purchase the right devices, you first need to understand the existing types of these parts.

Nozzle types

The following types of jets exist:

  • Jet - washer nozzles in the form of a hollow cylinder. At the bottom of the structure there is a fitting, thanks to which the nozzle itself is connected to the hose. There is a spray nozzle at the top. In this case, the fluid supply force can be adjusted using a special screw.
  • Fan nozzles. A special feature of this design is the presence of many nozzles (at least 3). It is also worth noting that in this case the liquid passes through a narrower channel, due to which the liquid is sprayed with greater pressure.

The first type is more often found on “middle-aged” cars, as well as on domestically produced cars, for example, the windshield washer nozzles of the VAZ 2110 have a jet configuration. Foreign cars and cars produced in recent years already have fan jets installed.

Washer nozzles, developed using modern technologies, are not only easy to use, but also easy to install. However, these elements also have their drawbacks.

Advantages and disadvantages of fan washer nozzles

Thanks to the successful design of the fan jets, not a narrow stream hits the glass, as is the case with inkjet models, but a wide, finely dispersed stream that covers almost the entire “lobovuha”. Among other advantages, it is worth highlighting the following:

  • Thanks to good atomization, dirt is dissolved more efficiently, resulting in fluid savings.
  • If in the case of jet nozzles, the wipers start working a little earlier than the liquid hits the glass, then the fan models are connected simultaneously with the wiper. This helps protect the glass from scratches.

If we talk about the shortcomings, car enthusiasts highlighted the following nuances:

  • Fan-type jets quickly become covered with ice at subzero temperatures. To avoid such troubles, you have to purchase an additional heating system for the washers.
  • Since a large amount of liquid immediately falls on the glass, visibility is reduced for several seconds until the wipers start working.

As you can see, such a system also has disadvantages, but all of them can be solved. The main thing is to choose the right jets for your car.

How to choose washer nozzles

It is best to choose jets specifically for your car. If you compare the fan nozzles of the windshield washer of the VAZ 2114 and similar parts for a foreign car, they will be different. Of course, these differences are not critical and you can always customize the part for your car brand, but in this case the installation will be much more difficult.

Or you can purchase universal products that are suitable for different machines. These elements are considered to be injectors with numbers 30655605 and 7845009010. They are presented in the Volvo and Sang Yong catalogs.

Both jets are absolutely identical with one difference - the Korean part will cost almost half as much as the Swedish counterpart.

Otherwise, both products can be used as windshield washer nozzles for Ford, Mazda, Subaru, Daewoo and other models.

Another alternative option is offered by the Toyota concern, but when purchasing jets under catalog number 85381-AA042 from this manufacturer, it is worth considering that they are sold in 1 piece. Therefore, when placing an order online, you must add two items to your cart. After purchasing the products, you can install them yourself.

How to replace washer nozzles

The process of replacing injectors is the same for all cars. Before starting work, it is necessary to prepare new hoses through which the “wash” will pass. A tube that is used for aquariums is well suited for these purposes.

After this, you need to complete the following steps:

  1. Remove the upholstery and carefully pull out the plastic clips.
  2. Remove the buffer foam pads. They are usually held in place by tape, so to reinstall them you will need to prepare some fresh duct tape.
  3. Detach the covers on the plastic parts.
  4. Remove the hoses through which the fluid is supplied.
  5. Remove the old injectors.
  6. Connect the pipe to the new jets.
  7. Connect the check valve to the jet connections and pipes.
  8. Check the system operation.

When replacing standard nozzles, it is also necessary to purchase a check valve, which will not allow the fluid to “roll back”, due to which the wipers often start working long before the cleaning composition appears on the glass.

Sometimes new washer nozzles do not work as expected (the fluid flows too high or low, offset to the side, etc.) and in this case additional adjustment of parts may be required.

How to adjust washer jets

No specialized equipment or special skills are required to adjust the nozzles. All you need is a regular needle or pin. In order to figure out how to adjust the windshield washer nozzles, it is enough to understand that they have a spherical shape and rotate freely inside the plastic housing. So it's simple:

  • Feel free to insert the pin into the nozzle and begin to turn it in the direction you need.
  • If the liquid hits the glass too low, then twist the pin upward.
  • If the jet hits very hard, this can also be corrected with a needle.
  • On foreign cars, the injectors have 3 jets, which are best adjusted differently. The extreme ones should be at the lowest points, as they hit the sides of the car. It is better to direct the middle ones to the central part of the windshield, and the remaining central jets are better to direct to the upper part of the glass.

You can also clean the washer jets yourself.

How to clean washer nozzles

If the jets begin to work incorrectly, then most often the problem can be solved by cleaning these elements from contaminants. Before cleaning the windshield washer nozzles, prepare:

  • pin or sewing needle;
  • compressor;
  • large volume syringe;
  • soap and water.

Before work, it is recommended to check the level of cleaning fluid in the tank, since the jets may not work due to a missing washer. After this, you need to disconnect the washer nozzles from the hoses and slightly press on them until they rise.

Next, follow these simple steps:

  1. Wash each nozzle in soapy water.
  2. Connect the compressor, turn on the blower and process the nozzle under high pressure.
  3. If you don’t have a compressor at hand, you can use a syringe into which you need to draw water.
  4. Clean the holes using a regular needle or pin.
  5. Insert the syringe into the nozzle and start flushing.

Of course, the compressor will be much more effective, but if the nozzles are severely clogged and do not allow liquid to flow, then with the help of improvised means you can at least temporarily solve the problem.

Another way is to leave the jets overnight in a soapy solution, and in the morning try to reuse the syringe or compressor. This will be useful in case of particularly severe old contamination.

In custody

When installing universal headlight washer nozzles or windshield jets, try to adjust them so that they spray liquid onto the surface of the glass without going beyond it. When choosing fan jets, try to give preference to those models that were designed specifically for your car, this will save you time on installing the elements.

Once again about the fan nozzles of the windscreen washer. — DRIVE2

Many Chevrolet Lacetti owners know that the most common replacement for a stock windshield washer nozzle with a fan nozzle is Volvo nozzles with design number 30655605 and costing 250-300 rubles. a piece. I mentioned them in my on-board article, where I also shared why I chose fan injectors from Ford with number 4097642 and a price of 200-250 rubles. for a unit. But in that post I didn’t mention another injector option.

There were two reasons for this. First: the spare part requires finishing with a file; second: high cost, they ask for 400-450 rubles per piece.

Agree, for such a price you don’t really want to shred a spare part without knowing whether the result will justify itself... I considered that the only advantage of fan injectors from Honda in the form of the ability to adjust the spray angle in two planes is not sufficient for their mention in the BZ.

Perhaps I was wrong!
After discussing Tolpa’s post about fan injectors in the BZ, it was decided to make a short review of these injectors on my personal blog.

In case someone will be interested in this information and decide to install this device in their Lachik, and then share the information with Drive2 participants. So, I present to your attention fan nozzles with an adjustable spray angle from Honda with article number 76810-SEA-A01.

On the left is an injector from Honda 76810-SEA-A01; on the right - injector GM 96550793 for Lacetti

On the left is an injector from Honda 76810-SEA-A01; on the right - injector GM 96550793 for Lacetti

The distance between the legs along the outer edges of the Honda injector is 15mm, and the stock Lacetti injector is 16mm. Also pay attention to the distance between the mounting tabs and the head of the two nozzles.

The GM one has a smaller one, and therefore, to install the Honda one, it would not be superfluous to use a rubber gasket for a tighter fit of the nozzle on the hood. And the length of the injector base from Honda is 21mm. versus 23mm. at my native Lachik.

On the left is an injector from Honda 76810-SEA-A01; on the right - injector GM 96550793 for Lacetti

The diameter of the cylindrical part of the nozzle from Honda is 9.5mm, and the width of the foot is 6mm, for the spare part for Lacetti it is 9mm. and 4mm. respectively. Adjusting the spray angle of a Honda injector is easily done using a small slotted screwdriver.

Windshield washer nozzles: adjustment and cleaning

Good day to everyone who reads me! The car has many different elements that simplify the driver’s life and make operation safe.

One of the points that experienced motorists pay attention to is keeping the windshield clean and tidy.

To do this, it is necessary that the windshield washer nozzles be in good working order, which we will discuss later.

   The importance of injectors during car operation

So, the safety of everyone inside the car, as well as other road users, depends on the quality and visibility of the windshield. Adjusting the nozzles and cleaning them is especially important before leaving in bad weather, when the windows are filled with rain, snow, and dirty with dirt.

In recent years, manufacturers of modern cars have begun to install new fan nozzles that are designed for windshield washer. They have a number of design features and advantages.

The most important thing is that they spray diluted concentrate or water immediately over a large area and perfectly increase visibility. At the same time, windshield washer consumption is reduced.

The main difference between such devices is that they spray immediately with a fountain of many small drops, instead of a traditional jet.

Universal windshield wipers of the fan operating principle evenly supply windshield washing liquid to almost the entire area of the windshield. Thanks to this, the wiper blades do not smear dirt, but immediately work on wet glass. Thus, it is possible to effectively and quickly remove all adhering insects, as well as any types of other contaminants.

   What designs are found - with and without heating?

Another interesting solution is heated nozzles, which have proven themselves well in the cold season. Due to the fact that the glass is well moistened and warmed up, the risk of scratches on it, which traditional cleaners are famous for, is reduced. However, there are certain weaknesses in such structures.

If heating is not provided, then such nozzles can freeze significantly during frosts. Another point is that the windshield washer is supplied to a large area at once. Because of this, there may be a short-term impairment of the driver's visibility until the brushes clear the space.

One of the fundamental points is to choose exactly the design that is optimal for your car model. They are, however, more expensive, but they are distinguished by their reliability and excellent performance.

You can take the path of reducing the cost, but universal nozzles, as such, do not exist. This is due to the fact that the same models may be suitable for one vehicle, but be completely ineffective on another.

As an option: spray the liquid far beyond the roof, or, conversely, too low. This depends on the set angle of inclination.

Some manufacturers even indicate in the instruction manual the diagram according to which adjustments must be made. Here's an example:

   Do-it-yourself cleaning - several ways

Another important question that remains to be considered is how to clean dirty windshield washer nozzles? Such situations can arise due to particles of dirt or sand, the same insects getting into the liquid supply tube or the nozzles themselves. It is not at all necessary to immediately replace them with new ones; you can easily get by with cleaning them yourself.

Typically, a signal that they are clogged is a decrease in the pressure of the flow of liquid or water supplied. In these cases, several simple improvised devices will come to the rescue:

  • an ordinary pin;
  • syringe;
  • compressor supplying air or hand pump;
  • water;
  • detergent of any type.

First, you need to disconnect the water supply hoses from the previous jets. Then you need to climb under the hood and put a little pressure on the injectors, making sure that they move upward. If you can’t do this yourself, you can use a screwdriver with a thin blade. Having disconnected the injectors, they are first washed with warm soapy water.

Under strong air pressure from the compressor, any remaining contaminants are removed from them. You can also use a regular pharmaceutical syringe, from which, using a stream of water, it is possible to eliminate particles of dirt that have gotten inside.

The easiest way is to use a pin, with the sharp end of which you need to clean the nozzles, and then rinse with plenty of water.

This is how, dear readers, we were able to get acquainted with the situation in which the injectors do not work, and how to deal with it. Now you know how important it is to regularly maintain cleanliness and good visibility. Let's say goodbye for today. Read us in the next issues. See you!

Sincerely, blog author Andrey Kulpanov

Article about fan nozzles

June 25, 2014

A good overview is not a luxury, but a necessity, because your safety and the safety of other road users depends on it.

In this article we will talk about the advantages of fan windshield washer nozzles over conventional jet nozzles.

Fan nozzles vs jet nozzles

Cleansing

Everyone has probably noticed that wet dirt is washed off better than dirt that has dried to the surface.

This fact is clearly in favor of the fan nozzle, since it is capable of spraying washer fluid onto the entire surface of the glass and, accordingly, wet the dirt before the windshield wiper blades pass through this area.

With jet nozzles the situation is the other way around; their operating principle involves spraying washer fluid onto the wiper and then applying it onto the windshield. The consequence of the second option is smearing dirt on the glass, and then cleaning it. A huge plus in favor of fan nozzles.

Windshield protection

We have just talked about the operating principle of both options, now let’s look at them from the point of view of preserving glass. Fan nozzles spray the entire area of the glass, respectively, wet it and the brushes rub over the wet surface without scratching it, while jet nozzles wet a small spot and the first stroke of the brushes goes over the dry glass, scratching it.

2:0 in favor of fan injectors.

Economical

In the case of jet nozzles, their nozzles are quite large and the water throughput capacity is significantly greater than fan nozzles, plus they require a continuous flow of liquid to irrigate the entire surface of the glass, since some of it flows past the brushes during their movement before it is smeared on the glass.

Accordingly, you will have to water the glass with at least 2-3 strokes of the brushes, which makes the consumption of washer fluid large, especially during winter and slush, when dirt and salt getting on the glass instantly dries out, and you need to pour a lot.

Read also:  The cheapest cars in the world

If you consider that “anti-freeze” is quite expensive, then the costs can be comparable to the cost of gasoline.

Fan nozzles significantly reduce washer fluid consumption. Their nozzles are smaller than those of jet nozzles and they are shaped in such a way that when liquid passes through them, greater pressure is created and then sprayed all over the glass.

Using this technology, in addition to the fact that initially fan nozzles are more economical, the period of time for watering the glass is greatly reduced, since the brushes need to clean the dirt already moistened on the surface of the glass, sometimes even a couple of seconds are enough before the brushes start working. 3:0 in favor of fan injectors.

Conclusion

Our comparison test showed that fan injectors are better than jet injectors in all respects, and this is confirmed by the fact that all modern cars are equipped with this type of injector.

If your car is equipped with jet injectors, then we would advise you to replace them, especially since it is not expensive to buy fan injectors, and you can change them in almost any car service center or, if you wish, yourself.

Fan windshield washer nozzles: description, advantages, disadvantages and installation

One of the main parameters of road safety is the visibility of the windshield, which depends on the degree of its transparency. Many vehicle drivers, in order to achieve extremely clean glass, especially in rainy and inclement weather, usually install fan windshield washer nozzles instead of good ones.

Advantages and disadvantages.

The most important advantage of fan-type nozzles is the uniform spraying of liquid on the glass surface and good soaking of dirt, thanks to which the brushes leave fewer scratches on the windshield.

Apart from the advantages, like every product, fan nozzles also have their drawbacks.

It is insignificant, but still there: when such nozzles operate, the liquid covers a solid part of the glass, thereby briefly deteriorating visibility and visibility, which is very important at night and/or at high speed. But this does not stop consumers; therefore, fan nozzles are gaining more and more popularity every day.

The market is now able to offer many injectors of different manufacturers, but the fan injectors created by the Volvo company have become famous and most widespread.

Be aware that the kit includes, in most cases, only one nozzle; therefore, when replacing both sides, you need to buy two sets of such nozzles.

The nuances of installing fan nozzles with your own hands.

Before you begin installing the nozzles, you need to prepare a check valve, which is undoubtedly an important part of the washing system.

This can be done in several ways: the first is contained in replacing the valve with a MITSUBISHI M 850641 tee (it has all the necessary details), and the second is by going to a pet store and purchasing an air supply system in the aquarium there, since it also has a valve that prevents reverse movement of air flows.

In general, when washing a car, such a valve prevents air from entering the drain and the liquid tube back. But when installing washer nozzles with a check valve, it is necessary to take into account one nuance, which is contained in the solidification of the liquid in the tubes during long periods of stagnation. Since unfreezing this set is not so easy.

If you refuse to install a check valve, it is fundamentally important to correctly organize the delay operation in relation to the supply of fluid to the wipers: the fluid must have time to reach the glass before the wipers begin to move.

Below we will look at universal instructions for installing fan-shaped windshield washer nozzles.

Sequencing. If the hood has upholstery, remove it completely, very carefully removing the plastic pistons from the holes using a screwdriver. Remove all pipes that carry fluid to the washer. Dismantle old injectors - as a rule, they are held on by plastic clips.

Attach the supply pipes to each nozzle, and only then can you begin installing them (just such a sequence will speed up and make the work easier). If there are check valves, arrange them in a separate sequence for each of the injectors. Then proceed to connect the tube valve to the start and the tee to the supply pump.

Fundamentally important!

From time to time it happens that the purchased injector model does not fit your car.

Under such conditions, it can be carefully sharpened with a file or small sandpaper. After installing the windshield washer fan nozzles with your own hands is completed, be sure to make sure that they are in good working order and the glass washing area.

Windshield washer nozzle: types, advantages and disadvantages

Cars December 29, 2013

It's no secret that the visibility of the windshield directly affects the safety of driving a car. Sometimes the driver encounters difficulties - dirt, snow and midges get on the surface of the windshield.

Then visibility is reduced several times, and even one object that the driver did not see can lead to the most unpleasant consequences. For example, at night a pedestrian may appear from behind the side of the road, whom the motorist will notice at the very last moment. Only then do you understand how important it is to keep the glass clean.

And to ensure that such incidents are as few as possible, all cars are equipped with special means for cleaning the windshield. There are three of them: washer fluid, wipers and nozzles. The inoperability or absence of at least one of these parts makes it impossible to clean the windshield.

In today's article we would like to pay attention specifically to injectors. Although they seem petty at first glance, without their presence the glass will always be dirty.

At the moment, there are two types of these devices:

  • Windshield washer jet nozzle (equipped for all cars produced in the 80s and 90s).
  • Fan (considered more modern and effective).

Indeed, fan-type windshield washer nozzles have become very popular recently. Ford Focus and many other passenger cars are now equipped with just such devices.

In general, the principle of operation of this part is the same, and it has not changed over the years.

Today's windshield washer nozzle, like its “ancestors,” sprays washer fluid over a specific part of the body with high pressure.

The difference between jet and fan devices is only in the spraying technology. If the first one supplies liquid to the glass in a stream (hence the name), then the second one does it in small drops over the entire area of the windshield. Replacing windshield washer nozzles is almost the same, as is their external design.

Pros and cons of these devices

The fan part, unlike the jet part, sprays the liquid more evenly over the surface of the glass. The latter option directs the product only to a small area of the windshield, and only then the wipers spread it over the surface.

In this case, the windshield wiper makes an unpleasant squeaking sound, while its fan counterparts evenly process the glass, and the wipers quietly clean it to a shine in a matter of seconds.

At the same time, the surface is practically not scratched, since everything happens without unnecessary resistance and with the best glide.

However, there are still some things where a jet windshield washer nozzle is superior to a fan nozzle. The fact is that the last element, when splashing liquid, completely deprives the driver of visibility, as it is instantly dispersed by the entire layer around the perimeter of the windshield.

The car is driven blindly for a few seconds. The driver has no choice but to trust his intuition and strong hands. And a lot can happen in this short period of time. Therefore, here the windshield washer jet nozzle is clearly in the lead.
