The windshield of a modern car is increasingly overgrown with gadgets of varying degrees of usefulness: a holder with a smartphone, a video recorder, a radar detector, and some even manage to attach a rather large tablet here. Visibility suffers, and the number of sockets in the cabin is limited. It would not hurt to combine at least a couple of devices in one case. Manufacturers met halfway and hid the recorder and radar detector in a single unit.

The subclass is just being formed, and therefore there is no smell of abundance here yet. But we found seven such devices on sale and gave them an exam, identifying the leader based on a set of parameters.

The cameras were tested traditionally, recording videos during the day and in the dark (they are available to readers of the electronic version of the magazine and in augmented reality for the paper version). The radar detectors were driven along the same route, laid across Moscow and the Moscow region.

Over 65 test kilometers, we encountered almost three dozen video recording systems.

I also praise all the test participants for their high-quality suction cups, which securely fix the device even on cold glass. I remember that in previous tests one or two Velcro always caused trouble.

They rely solely on radar. Speed meters operating in the old-fashioned way, with radiation (on the route we met the Strelka, Chris, Avtouragan and VOCORD Traffic complexes), they detected without failure.

But outside the field of view of these devices remain installations that record entry into public transport lanes, and newfangled Avtodoriya complexes that measure the average speed on a section of road. To put it simply, they are ordinary photo and video cameras. And if there is no radiation, there is no signal to the detector.

But there are “letters of happiness”. Therefore, if you do not want to receive them, I recommend that when selecting a radar detector, you do not consider devices without a GPS module.

Communication with satellites does not make the product good by default. For example, the products Prology, Subini and Conqueror have a camera database, but Avtodoriya is not included in it.

Mystery and Vizant, in addition to the lack of a GPS module, have other features in common that are not the most commendable. This couple turned out to be the most talkative. Noise immunity is poor both on the highway and in reduced sensitivity mode for the city.

False positives in the K-band are normal, but the devices also “see” non-existent Arrows (for all test participants they are output to a separate signal, although they operate in the same K-band). In addition, both gadgets turned out to be defective.

Mystery's display didn't work initially, which prevented me from exploring the DVR's menus and settings. It’s good that the recording was turned on automatically: I still received files for comparison with competitors. And Vizant turned out to be extremely heat-loving.

Leave it in a cold car for several hours and the camera goes into hibernation. The only consolation is that the radar detectors of these devices are equipped with a separate control unit and the whims of the recorders do not apply to them.
