A little about Toyota Corolla trunks: features and possible improvements

4 types of tuning for Toyota Corolla

08.07.2018

The Toyota Corolla car is popular among domestic drivers. The machine is reliable and easy to use, has a stylish design and ergonomic interior. To make their car unique, many drivers tune the Toyota Corolla 150 body, as well as models 100, 110 and 120.

Improved ride quality

Tuning Toyota Corolla E120 and E150 involves changing the design of the car and improving the driving characteristics of the car. One of the expensive modification options is replacing the engine with a more powerful one, however, there is another way to increase the power of a Toyota Corolla - this is chip tuning.

The procedure is a software adjustment of the operation of the engine control unit. Thanks to this tuning, the power of the standard engine installed on the Corolla can increase by 10 percent or more.

The advantages of chip tuning carried out on Toyota Corolla include:

  1. Increasing the maximum speed of the machine.
  2. Reduced fuel consumption.
  3. Improving the acceleration dynamics of Toyota Corolla.
  4. Increased throttle response.

Replacing the suspension on a Corolla stabilizes the car on the road, eliminates roll and makes the Toyota more manageable. Depending on the chosen driving style, the suspension is made hard or soft.

The first type of suspension is designed for aggressive driving; however, any defects in the road surface negatively affect the comfort of the driver and passengers.

A soft suspension dampens vibrations resulting from hitting a bump or hole, but the car becomes worse to drive.

One of the popular types of Corolla tuning is lowering the suspension. A budget-friendly way to perform such car tuning is to cut off a few centimeters of the standard springs. However, in order to avoid problems with the traffic police, it is recommended to install a more expensive option: hydraulic or electro-hydraulic suspension. With its help, the driver can independently adjust the vehicle's ground clearance.

Changing brake discs

When making modifications to the design of the Toyota Corolla, the brakes are tuned. This is due to the fact that the standard braking system may not withstand the increased load on it after increasing engine power and replacing the suspension. To change brake discs on a Toyota Corolla, use the following set of tools:

  1. Spanners.
  2. Compression bottle.
  3. Jack.
  4. “Shoes” necessary to secure the wheels in a stable position.
  5. Solid oil and machine oils.

To replace brake discs on a Toyota Corolla, the following measures are taken:

  1. Brake fluid is pumped out of the cylinder. A syringe is used for these purposes. When tuning a Toyota Corolla, you can save a little on buying new brake fluid. However, the old one can only be used if it has not lost its transparency. The technical liquid is poured into a clean and dry container and covered with a lid.
  2. Stops are placed under the rear wheels of the Toyota Corolla. The “boots” secure the raised car body. Next, proceed to dismantling the front wheel. To increase the stability of the car, the front part of the Toyota Corolla e120 or e150 is fixed with bars. This is necessary to comply with safety regulations: if you do not use additional stops, there is a risk that a car falling off the jack will crush the driver during work on replacing brake discs.
  3. After completing the preparation, they proceed directly to tuning the car brakes. The caliper bolt is unscrewed from below, it is lifted and turned on the upper bolt, and then fixed with wire. In some cases, it is difficult to turn the caliper: to do this, slightly unscrew the bolt located on top.
  4. The linings are removed and the lower bolt is finally dismantled, the caliper is disconnected from the fastening element. As a result, the part remains hanging on the cord.
  5. The steering wheel is turned towards the removed wheel, then the fasteners (bracket) are unscrewed.
  6. The freed mounting holes are cleaned of dirt and dust, degreased, and bolts of the M8 modification are screwed into them.
  7. A new brake disc is put on the wheel hub, then the mounting bracket is screwed on.
  8. The bolts are lubricated.
  9. The brake piston is lowered into the cylinder.
  10. Return the steering wheel to its original position.
  11. Screw the wheel and lower the jack. Remove the front bars.

When tuning a car's brake system, the factory calipers are replaced with parts made of ceramics. They are not cheap, however, their use increases the braking ability of the car in critical situations on the road, and the wear of the brake disc is reduced by 80%.

No, no, but I’ll find something unknown, insignificant but useful in the car, for example: - the trunk can be closed in such a way by turning the key in the trunk lock cylinder counterclockwise that it cannot be opened even with the interior handle

– on the hood lid there are 2 holes for the holder, which allows you to open the lid less / more

– after removing the terminal, the driver's window may stop working in AUTO mode. You need to press the button down all the way and hold it for 5 seconds, then up all the way and also hold itDyushaHonorary Corolla Leader Messages: 11430 Registered: March 30, 2013, 13:53 Car: Corolla, 2011, 4 automatic transmission, 1.6 l petrol diesel, Comfort+, drank more 9700 l/Ai92, Toebta 0W20 Location: 133, Kovrov Thanked: 7 times Thanked: 24 times

On the RAV 4 there is an anti-skid function that is not needed in winter, especially when it starts to dig in, it does not allow it to come out on the move. So, by manipulating the handbrake and brake pedal, this function is disabled.

Everything is clear, I understand. It's like 3 in one ABS, directional stability and anti-skid. I have this thing, you can even turn it off. In the winter it worked a couple of times, at a traffic light I gave a little more gas, a squeak was heard and the designation letters flashed on the screen.

The same letters were there when I specifically checked the directional stability, depending on who you want, but I like it.

I don’t drive much and that’s why it’s just right for me, I think there’s no point in turning off the anti-skid in mud or snow, and where it’s required, I won’t get into it on a RAV (I measured all the puddles in my childhood, but I’m still in the mud Working).

So I love cleanliness and comfort on rare weekendsManGustModerator Messages: 6445 Registered: March 29, 2013, 09:00 Car: Toyota Corolla 2012/1G3/Elegance/Automatic Location: Samara Thanked: 132 times Thanked: 147 times

To prevent the front mudguards from rubbing off the paintwork, which could otherwise lead to “caries,” I glued a transparent film to the part of the wing under the mudguard exactly along the contour of the mudguard.
The same goes for the strip on the trunk lid and the door sills.

Forum: Toyota Corolla (2018-2019)

  • I purchased a new Toyota Corolla in September and was very dissatisfied. The front panel is very high, so the front of the car is difficult to see. This is extremely inconvenient when parking; it is better to install parking sensors. I couldn't use the trunk all winter. In the cold it simply did not close. I contacted the center several times.

The car warmed up there and the lock began to close. They explained to me that this is a disease of this car, I’m waiting for the next winter and again I will prove that this is a flaw. After 3000 km, a noise appeared under the front panel. Well, in general, it’s a so-so machine, it’s not worth that kind of money. My driving experience is 20 years. The cars were different, always German.

    I really regret the purchase.

  • I bought a new Toyota Corolla in December and am very pleased with it. The only criticism was that the headlights fogged up, but this problem was quickly fixed under warranty. I look here at a lot of reviews on this model, well, as they say, “there are no comrades according to taste and color.”

Of course, maintenance is a bit expensive, but I found a way out: I order all the spare parts externally, and, of course, have them replaced by the officials. Purchasing spare parts elsewhere does not void the car's warranty.

I try to order from places where they give a guarantee for all spare parts, where if something goes wrong they immediately change it or return the money and all spare parts are original, but at prices several times lower than others.
By the way, the following question has arisen, maybe someone has encountered this.

When driving a car in a strong wind, the car seems to be sailing from rut to rut. Am I the only one with paranoia or is this really true?

Read also:  Air conditioning on Toyota Corolla: maintenance and repair
  • I would like to leave a review about the 11th generation Toyota Corolla. The car is good and interesting. I really liked the interior: a lot of space, good comfortable chairs, a nice dashboard, panel, no tunnel in the middle. I didn’t like the exterior: “gray mouse”.

If we had added a rear overhang, increased the luggage compartment by 10 cm, and moved the rear roof pillars by 10 cm, then it would have looked like a harmonious business car. I also don’t like the trunk lid – those trunk hinges are straight out of the 90s.

There is an alternative to the sedan body - a liftback body. From the outside it looks like a business sedan, but in fact there is a large opening for large items. And then it will be a real family car for all occasions.

I hope my review will be read by design engineers and the new generation will be even better. And so, I like the Toyota Corolla car.

  • I bought a Corolla. The car is good, but: 1. Noise (I did anti-shumka, the doors were empty and rang like a “tambourine”) 2. Installation of wing protection. The metal of the body is, to put it mildly, a bit thin. They probably also save on paint. Bad review. Fortunately, I bought a “Prestige” - parking sensors and a camera save me. I covered it with anti-corrosion because if the bottom is still in some shape, then there is bare paint under the wings.

Drove 30,000. No complaints so far. By the way, the gentleman above wrote that the pads are cheap, so, I want to upset everyone, you won’t find front pads on this Toyota cheaper than 3500 (from 100 to 400 dollars) and there are no analogues on them yet, only the original (in these models on the front on one different pads on each side!). I use 5W20 oil for the winter. Average consumption 6.5-7.0. Urban cycle.

There were several cars, mostly Germans, but the first was Japanese. I think in a year it will be possible to compare, but for now, new is new.

  • At the end of January 2015, I bought myself a “disappointment” in the “Comfort+” configuration... I went to Croatia and back. Pros: the car is new, the headlights shine well. Cons: • The headrests are adjustable only in height, and are tilted forward as standard (my neck almost broke). • There is very little adjustment on the seat. • The bottom of the panel at the driver’s feet is angled for some reason – the knees always touch.

    • The armrest between the front seats ends where you need to rest your elbow. • The operation of the blowing system is incomprehensible - it blows anywhere, completely closed reflectors allow air flows to pass through, but does not reach the rear passengers; on the panel, the upper side reflectors do not overlap at all and ricochet off the glass into the ear.

    • The seals of all doors whistle after 100 km/h with the sound of an open window. • The glove compartment is not illuminated. • Sun visors are like children's hands - lots of clearance on the sides. • If the steering column is lowered slightly below the highest position, the steering wheel blocks all the instruments.

    • You can't put anything in the trunk on both sides; the lid's unique hinges rest against things. • Engine thrust is only for the city; on a long climb the car slows down, the gas pedal to the floor barely maintains the set speed limit, it’s good that the car didn’t roll back. • On the way back, the electric motor of the interior fan whistled.

    • When you wipe the dust off the dashboard, the plastic squishes and bends in the area of the instrument visor. • There is no sound insulation of the arches at all.

Very upset, disappointed and sorry for the money. Before it there was a 2005 Corolla - it doesn’t even compare! Why did they ruin Toyota?

  • And I really like the Corolla. I've been driving it for almost two years. During this time I did not notice any serious shortcomings.

Appearance is, of course, a matter of taste. But I think many will agree that the car looks impressive.

There is a lot of free space in the cabin. It's comfortable to be behind the wheel. I never froze in winter - and this despite the fact that sometimes I had to go “long distance” at -30 degrees.

It behaves confidently on the road, even at high speeds (up to 180 km/h). The suspension is soft - I don’t even notice small holes and bumps. With larger ones things are worse, but still not critical.

I don't think I wasted my money. The car gives only positive emotions. For 59,000 km, I only changed consumables.

  • Toyota Corolla 11th in use since November 2013. I took it with a 122-horsepower 1.6 engine and manual transmission. Now the odometer shows 45,000 km. Not a bad “workhorse”, but with its own nuances.

The chassis is durable and energy-intensive. This is a very good option for our roads. There are no extraneous sounds.

The engine pulls almost from the very bottom. It starts the first time, regardless of the temperature (even at -35°C). At the same time, it is also economical. On the highway, consumption is 5.5 liters, and in the city - about 9 liters. Works without problems on the 92nd.

The salon is very spacious. There is enough space not only in the front seats, but also in the second row. In winter it warms up quickly, which is also good.

    Now about the sad stuff.

    • During the cold season, “crickets” make themselves felt. What’s interesting is that they disappear as unexpectedly as they appear.

    • If there is any sound insulation of the arches, it is very poor. Otherwise, the Shumka suits me, especially considering the class of the car.

    • The paintwork is not as strong as we would like. It is impossible to avoid chipping. Fortunately, the galvanization here is very good (even those chips that are already two years old have not rusted).

    • Yes, and the handling, to be honest, is a little “wobbly”. The car was created for those who like to drive calmly and carefully.

  • In my opinion, the Toyota Corolla is not worth the money they are asking for it.
It’s better to spend it on a used car of a higher class. As a last resort, you can take a new “Korean”. Most defects are difficult to detect during a quick inspection at the dealer or during a short test drive.

    What exactly I didn’t like:
    1. Poor handling.
At high speed (from 120 km/h) the car is thrown in different directions. In addition, he is very sensitive to ruts. 2. Rigid suspension.

I don’t know what those who consider it soft have driven before, but I feel all the joints and bumps I drive over.
And this feeling, to put it mildly, is not the most pleasant. 3. Disgusting sound insulation.

There’s nothing to explain here - it’s very noisy in the cabin, as if I’m driving not a Japanese sedan, but a Zhiguli.
    4. Loud CVT.
It starts to “yell” especially loudly when I pick up speed or overtake. 5. Delicate paintwork.

The mileage is only 30,000 km, but the body is already covered in small chips.
I do everything in my power to avoid rust. 6. Miscalculations in ergonomics.

For example, some keys are not backlit (including those responsible for folding the mirrors), and the power window control buttons are located inconveniently.
    7. Trunk lid. To close it, you need to bang hard. At first I decided that the castle was to blame, but in the end it turned out that this was a “design feature”.

To be fair, I note that the car also has its advantages. Yes, there are very few of them, but if I don’t say anything about them, they will start accusing me of being biased towards Toyota.

    So, the pros:
    1. Many options - front and rear parking sensors, auto parking function, rear view camera, bluetooth, etc.
    2. The seats are covered with wear-resistant and non-staining fabric.
    3. The dashboard is easy to read.
    4. A large amount of free space - both in the cabin and in the trunk.

Toyota Auris+Corolla: Two from the casket

Having produced more than 30 million copies of the Toyota Corolla, which achieved the title of the most popular car in the world, the Japanese calmed down and decided to divide the tenth generation of their bestseller. The sedan produced in Turkey is still called Corolla, and the golf-class hatchback, built on a similar chassis, but assembled in England, received its own name - Auris.

To understand the difference between these two models that are similar in price and class, we took both Toyotas for a parallel test drive. I don’t want to call it comparative, but there was a spirit of competition here.

While picking up the cars, my colleague and I began to think about who would drive what. I had several important meetings ahead of me, where I was greeted by my clothes, and therefore I needed a respectable car if possible.

It seems that, at its core, a sedan is better suited for these purposes, but the resemblance of the Corolla to its older sister Camry was off-putting - when getting behind the wheel, the driver seemed to sign in advance that he did not have enough money for a full-fledged business class and had to be content with its smaller copy . In the end, I chose Auris - and did not regret it. The car looks fresh and original, and it doesn’t even bother you that from a distance it might be mistaken for a baby Yaris. Up close, you can see the solid dimensions of the car and the playful triangular window in front of the front door. Besides, this is the new face of Toyota, and in a couple of years most European models will probably look like this.

We got both cars in the maximum configuration and with similar power units - a highly boosted 1.6-liter engine with a power of 122 hp. plus a Multi-Mode robotic box.

Corolla costs 602,680 rubles, and Auris – 642,200 rubles. Some of the Corolla's price advantage is explained by its more modest configuration.

The hatchback, for example, has separate climate control, while the sedan has single-zone airbags. The Auris has 7 airbags, including a knee airbag for the driver and window airbags for the entire cabin, while the Corolla has only four.

But the fact that the cars lack not only a stabilization system, but also the simplest traction control seemed too intrusive saving. In summer, such electronics are not really needed, but in winter they can be very useful for novice drivers, especially when driving on country roads.

The differences in the interior are not as great as in the exterior design, although they are present here too. The Corolla is a classic golf car that strives to appear a little bigger than it is. The main controls are in place, and nothing evokes much emotion - just a car.

Auris is much more interesting - just look at the pipe itself, an extension of the center console. The “robot” selector is conveniently raised, which creates some analogies with sports cars, but the massive design almost entirely “ate” the place where pockets, drawers and cup holders should have been located.

Read also:  Restoring a leather car interior

As a result, finding a place for your phone and wallet is a problem, but cup holders placed opposite the side air ducts allow you to heat or cool drinks at your own discretion - conveniently.

The two glove boxes that are present in every car are partly to solve the storage situation, but I would like to have more open containers in close proximity to the driver.

And the quality of plastic in both cars was somewhat disappointing: you expect better quality from a car with a small engine for $25,000 - it seems that Toyota engineers have been given the task of saving on everything they can, and marketers set the price based on the value of the brand.

Oddly enough, the rear seats were noticeably more comfortable in the Auris. The sofas in the cars are the same, but there is significantly more headroom in the Auris - in the Corolla, people taller than 180 cm rest with the top of their heads against the roof. It’s immediately obvious that this is still not business class.

A study of trunks gives an even greater advantage in favor of the hatchback: a better shape and the ability to transform the interior. The Corolla's trunk turned out to be quite shallow, and when the seats are folded down, the opening from above is limited by a powerful beam.

In addition, there is no handle on the trunk lid to close it - in winter you will have to get your hands dirty every time. Again, unacceptable savings for a car at this price.

On the road, the behavior of the cars turned out to be very similar. When launching parallel from a standstill, the Corolla and Auris are neck-and-neck, and the difference can only be due to the weight of the drivers and who has a heavier trunk load. At first, Multi-Mode is quite annoying.

Pecks and delays during switching create the impression that the driver is not just a driving school graduate, but a bad driver. The situation is partly saved by the manual switching mode using the buttons on the steering wheel or the sports mode.

In the first, if you synchronize the operation of the gas pedal with the actions of your hands, dives can be avoided, although the switching time still remains quite long.

The sports algorithm makes shifts less frequent, since it practically does not use fifth gear and tries to shift down in advance, which guarantees a reserve of traction when exiting corners.

Although such a transmission is clearly far from a real sport, even the fact that Toyota cars participate in Formula 1 does not help.

By the way, from the point of view of acceleration, the sport mode does not provide any preferences: with the gas pedal pushed to the floor, the engine steadily spins up to almost 7,000 rpm, slightly entering the red zone.

But the engine itself left a very positive impression. Of course, the thrust at the bottom is not great, but it spins up great, and at the top you can’t tell that the engine capacity is only 1.6 liters. Outside the city, both cars easily push the speedometer needle past 190 km/h, which gives a significant advantage over their classmates with engines of similar displacement.

We found only one positive quality in the “robot” - a higher efficiency compared to “automatic machines”. This results primarily from low fuel consumption - in the city the car easily reaches 9 liters per “hundred”, even with very active driving, as well as a higher maximum speed.

In terms of handling, the differences between the cars are also in the nuances. On a smooth road, both fly very confidently, but as soon as they get caught in a rut, the Toyotas rush to scour from side to side. Fortunately, the steering wheel is filled with reactive force, which helps control the car.

As you'd expect, the hatchback corners better: being aimed at Europe, it has a slightly firmer suspension. This has virtually no effect on comfort, but cornering behavior is more stable.

A sedan with increased ground clearance sometimes allows diagonal swinging on an arc, and it is more difficult to control it. Where the Auris takes a turn without a hint of sliding, the Corolla shows its temper and is already balancing on the edge: throw the gas a little sharper - and the stern breaks away.

The drift develops smoothly and predictably, but a stabilization system here, perhaps, would not be superfluous: of course, with the ability to turn it off.

The Auris emerges as the winner in our test. It has a brighter and more distinctive design, a more spacious and interesting interior and a more convenient trunk. In addition, the Auris has a better audio system and is more convenient to park in the city due to better visibility, although for greater comfort it is better to equip the hatchback with parking sensors.

But I would choose a manual gearbox or look for another car with a traditional “automatic”: the work of “robots” is, alas, still far from perfect.

But the choice of configurations is such that only basic cars are supplied with manual transmission, so you will either have to be content with meager equipment or endure Multi-Mode.

Engine: diesel, Volume in liters: 2.0, Power in hp: 86

    Gearbox: manual

    Drive: full

    Body type: sedan

    Operation: year-round

Salon. General ergonomics, seats, steering wheel, pedals, levers/buttons. Quality of materials and interior finishing.

Comfort for the driver and passengers: When I approached it, I thought how I would fit in it, but it turned out that despite its small external dimensions, the interior of the Toyota Corolla is very cozy and quite spacious compared to the Honda Civic and all Russian small cars. Passenger seats are comfortable.

The driver's seat moves in three directions and, given my considerable height, I feel comfortable. The roof is relatively high and, unlike the Mark, Vista and Sprinter, and I drove them a little, here you can drive in winter wearing a hat.

The steering wheel only lowers or rises, but so high that, unlike the Honda, the driver gets in or out freely. The clutch, brake and gas pedals move smoothly, no effort required. In the cabin, the location of all the buttons and levers is convenient; you can’t even think of another location for them. The interior is velor, the color is gray-blue speckled, absolutely not easily soiled.

Forward/Rear Visibility: Visibility back and forth is excellent, but the A-pillars are a bit in the way to the sides. The windshield wipers operate in three positions, which is basically sufficient.

When I bought it, there were Japanese winter brushes, they washed away snow and rain perfectly. Then I bought Korean ones, they wish for the best.

The headlights are still not adjusted, I don’t know about oncoming drivers, but for me they shine perfectly.

Engine, gearbox: Engine, diesel 2.0 l. Previously, Toyota Corollas had a 1.8 liter engine, I don’t know how it worked. But 2.0 liters is plenty, quite powerful, and a silent diesel engine. Moreover, the weight of the car is small. I usually drive at a speed of 90, sometimes 100 km/h. It dials easily, and it doesn’t matter whether I’m traveling alone or with four passengers.

After 120 km/h it starts to get dull. Although it accelerated to 155 km/h on Japanese diesel fuel, this is not necessary for a diesel engine. The car has a 5-speed gearbox, it works perfectly, in 1st you can get through almost anywhere, just so as not to sit on the bottom. In 4th and 5th gears, you can’t even hear in the cabin that you’re driving a diesel engine.

True, the release bearing began to make noise when it was cold.

Average fuel consumption: On the highway 6-7 liters, urban cycle 8-9, off-road 10 liters.

Controllability, smooth ride, energy-intensive suspension. Brakes: Controllability is very easy, it still has power steering. The suspension is strong, considering that we have no roads, and the struts still work, do not knock or sit out.

ABS for icy conditions is a fairy tale, although in summer it seems to me that the braking distance with ABS is longer than without it, so I try to keep my distance.

The Toyota Corolla handles the road well, especially with 4 WD, and perfectly overcomes small snow drifts and walks along the sand on the seashore.

    Summer tires:

Winter tires: All-season tires, Bridgestone, 185/70/R14. I only buy it.

Trunk, possibilities for transforming the interior: The trunk is not large, there is no possibility of transforming it, but it’s enough for me.

Advantages: Excellent car, for a family of 3-4 people. Economical, passable, comfortable, not expensive.

    Disadvantages: I don't know yet.

Improvements/tuning: I didn’t do anything, the body is aquamarine-metallic, it looks great anyway.

Repair, maintenance: During 2.5 years of operation, I only changed the gas timing belt and boots. I change the oil and filter every 5000 km.

If possible, the next car will be: Toyota of a higher class, preferably gasoline, but definitely all-wheel drive

pros and cons of the 2007 Toyota Corolla, repair and operation

    Operation of Toyota Corolla

Success has accompanied the Toyota Corolla since its release: as soon as it went on sale in 2007, almost a year-long queue immediately lined up for it. And you can’t say that the representative of the tenth generation has any super abilities.

Neutral appearance, sufficient dynamics, reliable handling and an acceptable level of comfort - the portrait of a completely average car, but nothing more.

However, belonging to one of the most revered families in our country and some similarities with the more expensive and respectable Camry turned out to be a tremendous success.

However, for those who are not looking for emotions and refined driving manners, but are simply looking for a comfortable vehicle for everyday life, Corolla has everything you need: already in the basic version it is equipped with ABS, a quartet of airbags, air conditioning, MP3 radio, heated seats , electric windows and mirrors. For the city crowd, the Japanese have provided a robotic gearbox. All this can be safely extrapolated to Auris - this is the same Corolla, only with a hatchback body and a slightly edited appearance.

Read also:  What is more reliable: automatic or variator?

And yet, the main popular argument in favor of the “Japanese” is its reliability, which has been praised for years, and the carefully cultivated image of a car in which nothing breaks.

With careful owners, the car retains its presentation for a long time. A well-painted body does not allow itself to rust even after several Moscow salty winters - naturally, provided that it has avoided accidents and handicraft repairs.

Even the decorative strip above the license plate on the trunk lid, which rubbed ulcers on the body of the previous generation Camry, does not harm the health of the Corolla. It happened that, due to dirt, the headlight WASH NOZZLES were stuck in the open position.

But it was not difficult to restore their mobility: in most cases, basic cleaning helped. And by January 2008, having modified the design of the injectors, the Japanese completely eliminated their jamming.

In November, cars arrived with securely fixed decorative overlays on the radios - until then, the panels sometimes came off spontaneously.
As for the reliability of the climate control unit, window lift buttons and heated seats, the Corolla is in perfect order with this.

In on-board electrics, only the BATTERY requires special attention. Its deep discharge, say, after a long period of listening to music with the engine not running, leads to shedding of the plates, after which the battery becomes completely unusable.

It happened that in manual transmissions of Toyota Corolla mechanics changed the rear BEARING of the secondary shaft. The faulty part was indicated by a hum that occurred when accelerating. Otherwise, the 5-speed manual transmission is quite reliable, and the clutch lasts at least 150,000 km for adequate drivers.

But you can’t say a good word about the so-called multimodal (multi-mode) MMT box, which is designed to make life in the city easier - but it was with it that the vast majority of cars with a 1.6-liter engine were sold!
In the ill-fated “robot,” the clutch discs quickly wore out, the control unit and actuator died.

All this led to the car’s reluctance to move, the clutch slipping during the start, and getting stuck in some gear. Neither the advice of mechanics to customers to move the lever to neutral when stopping for more than 10 seconds and slightly releasing the gas pedal during switching, nor the efforts of Japanese engineers solved the problems.

As a result, in 2010, instead of the capricious gearbox, the Corolla and Auris began to install an ordinary hydromechanical “automatic”. On pre-restyling cars, in cases of inadequate operation of the MMT (diagnostics shows error P0810), the “robot” is now changed entirely.

On units younger than five years old with a mileage of up to 150,000 km, subject to routine maintenance, an official dealer can install a new gearbox free of charge.

In total, the Corolla has more than a dozen engines, but it was delivered to Russia with only two. These are gasoline inline fours: the 1.6-liter 1ZR-FE (124 hp) and its less powerful version 4ZZ-FE with a displacement of 1.4 liters and 97 hp.

In both units, the timing drive is carried out by a chain designed for the entire service life of the motor. If there are no characteristic noises (an extremely rare occurrence), then mechanics do not recommend touching the “chain”.

In general, the engines are unpretentious and durable - mileages of 250,000 km are not the limit for them. Candles, if you don’t pour outright crap into the tank, as a rule, take care of the 100 thousand measured by regulations.

And thanks to the short intervals between maintenance, during which the engine oil must be changed, the VVT-i variable valve timing mechanisms, which are very demanding on its quality, live happily ever after.

Sometimes it happened that the WATER PUMP of the cooling system began to leak - this mostly applies to the 1.6 liter engine, regardless of mileage. However, replacing the pump is inexpensive, and on machines manufactured since June 2008 there is no such problem at all. Sometimes at low temperatures the starter RETRACT RELAY failed.

Alas, “defrosting” did not always help, and the entire starter had to be replaced. But by May 2009, the Japanese had sorted out this problem too.

In the Toyota Corolla suspension, only a few weak points can be noted: sometimes “sweating” REAR SHOCK ABSORBERS, dying rear ABS SENSORS (the hub needs to be replaced) and creaking BUSHINGS of the front stabilizer bar.

In addition, on rare cars it is necessary to change the STEERING COLUMN that knocks when driving over uneven surfaces. However, by 2009, Japanese engineers had successfully eliminated all of the above problems. After which there is no longer any need to change anything in a car that has not covered 150 thousand kilometers. The brake system parts also have a decent service life.

The life of the front and rear pads is approximately the same - on average 30-40 thousand km. Brake discs last 50-60 thousand.

Toyota Corolla E120: all the details about one of the most purchased cars in Japan

Toyota Corolla E120 is considered one of the most popular and best-selling Japanese cars. Many people claim that this is a high-quality machine that never breaks down. Well, if this model is so popular, then it’s worth talking about it and its main advantages.

    Equipment

The main advantage of the Toyota Corolla E120 model is its equipment. The equipment list includes everything you need. This includes air conditioning, electronic drive side mirrors, vertical steering wheel adjustment, power windows, anti-lock braking system and two airbags. Nothing unusual, but these functions provide comfort to Toyota lovers.

In 2002, some restyling work took place. After them, the car became the owner of a more “fresh” interior and exterior. And from that time on, the simplest modifications with a manual transmission and a 1.3-liter engine under the hood began to be sold on the domestic market.

    Limited editions

There were also more “rich” modifications of the Toyota Corolla E120. They were called “limited editions.” That is, close to the top ones.

What advantages did they have? Electronic drive and heated driver's seat, a good CD player, a modern navigation system, a color multifunction screen, etc. For each configuration, the manufacturer has provided two types of transmission.

The first is a 5-speed manual transmission (with the exception of models with a 1.8-liter unit under the hood) and a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Like all previous Toyota Corolla E120 models, the top version was offered with different engines. And these are new generation power units. Among them are three gasoline engines (4 DOHC).

These are 88-, 110- and 136-horsepower units, their volume was 1.3; 1.5 and 1.8 liters respectively. Potential buyers were also offered the Toyota Corolla IX E120 with a naturally aspirated 2.2-liter diesel engine.

It could generate power of 79 “horses”.

The Japanese are not fans of pretentiousness. And this trait is clearly visible in the interior decoration of the 2013 Corolla. Now is the time when world-famous manufacturers make not cars, but real works of art.

Just look at the interiors of cars from Mercedes, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Audi, BMW, Ferrari... They are magnificent! But inside the Corolla everything is as simple and restrained as possible. The interior is comfortable, no doubt about it, but ordinary. The materials are plastic, albeit of high quality.

Although if a person wants to become the owner of the maximum configuration, he will receive a car with a leather interior, dual-zone climate control and a good multimedia system.

Power units of the old and new generation - what is the difference?

The main difference between new gasoline engines and engines of the previous generation is a more reliable chain drive of the gas distribution mechanism.

The developers also paid great attention to such factors as the efficiency and environmental friendliness of engines.

Everyone knows that the Japanese actively advocate that engines consume little fuel and produce minimal emissions of waste substances into the atmosphere.

There was also a calculation for further modernization - specialists deliberately created units with prospects. The developers also minimized the weight of the engines. And thanks to this, the so-called specific power has increased.

But nevertheless, it was not without its shortcomings. Unfortunately, the brand new Toyota Corolla E120 engines received not entirely positive reviews from critics.

And all because they have too little maintainability and high requirements for the quality of fuel and oil.

Therefore, if a person wants his “iron horse” to serve him for a long time, it is necessary to carefully care for the engine. Otherwise, carelessness will result in expensive repairs.

    Suspension

Toyota Corolla E120, the photo of which shows us a rather attractive car, decorated in a design traditional for the Japanese concern, is distinguished by a high-quality suspension. It provides a decent level of comfort and controllability. And this despite the fact that it is surprisingly resilient. Even if you operate the car in the conditions of our Russian roads.

Another advantage is ease of maintenance and availability of spare parts. Of course, it would be better if there was no need for the latter, but, unfortunately, no one can rule out a breakdown.

    Ride, handling and safety

This is also an important topic that you should definitely pay attention to when talking about the Toyota Corolla IX (E120, E130). In combination with all-wheel drive (such models are versions with automatic transmission - either 1.5 or 1.8), the car gives the driver the opportunity to feel confident, comfortable and safe behind the wheel.

It is also impossible not to note the soft braking system (which, by the way, has always been a characteristic feature of Toyota). If we compare the car with its predecessors, the turning radius, unfortunately, has remained virtually unchanged. And the parameter, by the way, is important, especially when it comes to urban conditions.

Now about safety. Everything is standard here: airbags designed for the front passenger and, of course, for the driver. If a person decides to become the owner of the maximum configuration, then his car will also have curtain airbags, as well as seat belt pretensioners. These versions of Toyota also have load limiters, ISOFIX fastenings and inertia locks.

This generation of cars has been tested many times in various crash tests. The results of these tests were never below four stars. Although cars usually received “A” grades.

And this level of security is a key advantage of this model. However, one drawback was noted. And it lies in insufficient safety when hitting people.

Pedestrians will be out of luck in such cases.
