Toyota Corolla
Toyota Corolla cars produced between 2001-2006 are no longer available new, but you can buy them in fairly decent condition on the secondary market. At one time, Toyota Corolla IX was sold by Russian dealers with two 1.6 liter engines. and 1.4 l. (110 and 96 hp, respectively).
1.4 liter cars. could only be found with a manual transmission in hatchback and sedan versions. 1.6-liter cars were sold, in addition to sedan and hatchback versions with manual and four-speed automatic transmissions, in station wagon body style (automatic station wagons were not sold in Russia).
Almost all used Toyota Corolla 2002 - 2003 cars that could be found in Russia have 1.4 and 1.6 liter gasoline units. with VVT-i gas distribution system. It gives Corolla engines good traction and even distribution of torque at any engine speed.
Even fourth gear allows the car to confidently accelerate at 40 km/h with a manual transmission. The transmission allows car owners of cars with an automatic transmission to be practically equal in dynamics to similar cars with a manual transmission, because Toyota’s ability to select the right gear ratios for its gearboxes is known to everyone.
However, when you choose a used car, you give preference to a more powerful engine. The advantage of a car with a 1.6-liter engine is especially noticeable outside the city, as it provides the necessary acceleration when overtaking. The weaker 1.4-liter unit often has to be overloaded, thereby significantly reducing its service life.
There is no significant difference between used Corolla 2004 - 2006 with 1.6 and 1.4 liter engines. not included in the price, so it is wiser to purchase a more powerful car.
The car's mileage of up to 250 thousand km speaks in favor of buying a Toyota Corolla 9 on gasoline. without the use of major repairs. Of essential parts up to 180-200 thousand km. It is necessary to replace only the timing chain drive installed on 1.4 and 1.6 liter engines.
There are practically no other problems with motors if they are used well. You just need to fill in high-quality oil after every 10 thousand mileage, changing it at the same time as the filters, and buy original Toyota spark plugs after 20-30 thousand km.
It is necessary to constantly monitor the oil level, which may drop due to wear on the timing chain tensioner ring. Up to 200 thousand km. After a mileage, problems with gearboxes also do not arise, and the cause of the breakdown can be one thing - untimely oil change.
There are no issues with the clutch basket and disc of a manual transmission, usually up to 150 thousand km, after which it is advisable to change them.
The ninth generation Corolla copes with uneven Russian roads using a reliable McPherson front suspension and a semi-independent rear beam. Even a mileage of 150 thousand km.
stabilizer struts withstand without making any extraneous sounds, although on many other golf-class models these problematic parts are intolerant to Russian roads. Usually, after 120 -140 thousand km. It is recommended to replace only the shock absorbers and steering ends.
Perhaps the only thing that can have a detrimental effect on our roads is the steering rack, the plastic bushings of which are prone to wear.
Toyota Corolla is considered one of the most reliable cars and is ideal for Russian motorists in terms of price and quality.
The main disadvantage of this well-known model is the special love of car thieves and, as a result, for the driver - insurance premiums or independent equipment with an alarm system.
True, although this is not a reason for joy, new cars are increasingly being stolen.

Toyota Corolla X (2006-2013) – is it worth buying?
In 2006, Toyota made a real revolution: under the iconic name Corolla, only a compact sedan was offered. 3- and 5-door hatchbacks were designated Auris.
Why did the company take such a step? The castling of names is intended to draw attention to the beginning of a new chapter in the history of compact Toyotas.
It was assumed that Auris would receive recognition not only from regular customers of the brand, but also compete for a new circle of car enthusiasts - in particular, the Japanese hoped to reach a young audience.
The Corolla was intended for an already formed group of admirers of the brand.
Corolla X remained true to tradition in the full sense of the word. There is not even an ounce of extravagance in the body shapes. The discreet design can be criticized for a long time, but we must admit that the 4.54-meter sedan still looks elegant - especially after restyling in 2010.
Simplicity also reigns in the cabin.
The only bright thing is the instrument panel with amber backlight and liquid crystal displays of the on-board computer and indicators of engine temperature and fuel level, as if “rising” above the analog gauges.
This solution is not suitable for everyone, as it limits the visibility of the speedometer and tachometer. The quality of finishing materials and colors are inferior to the leaders of the “C” segment. However, the Toyota Corolla demonstrates solid build quality.
The interior space of the car is enough to comfortably accommodate four adults. The only pity is that poorly profiled seats with short cushions make themselves felt during long trips. In addition, the height adjustment range of the steering column is too small.
The center console is clear and easy to use. It's important to note that Toyota doesn't use the Auris solution, where the center console opens into a high tunnel. This design looks interesting, but takes up a lot of space and limits functionality.
The Corolla's trunk volume is 450 liters. This is not a record, but for most car owners its capacity is quite enough. Filling the space to the brim is hampered by the open hinges of the trunk lid. There aren't enough cargo securing points inside, and the lack of a handle to close the lid can get your hands dirty. Rearward visibility is limited, so parking sensors make it easier to maneuver in tight parking lots.
Toyota Corolla X left the factory with reasonable equipment. The basic version was equipped with four airbags, ABS, air conditioning, an audio system, an on-board computer, heated seats, electric windows and electric mirrors.
Under the hood of the Corolla are the same engines as in the Auris. The conservative nature of the sedan prompted Toyota to exclude the most powerful engines - 1.8 liter petrol and 2.2 liter diesel, as well as a hybrid power plant.
A choice of petrol engines with a displacement of 1.33 liters (101 hp) and 1.6 liters (124 and 132 hp) and diesel engines of 1.4 liters (90 hp) and 2.0 liters ( 126 km).
All engines provide adequate performance, but the base petrol engine is unimpressive in its elasticity, only kicking in at high revs.
The 6-speed manual transmission is precise with well-matched ratios.
As an alternative, a MultiMode automatic transmission was offered with steering wheel-mounted gear selector paddles. The multi-mode transmission is quite sluggish.
Untimely shifts are especially inconvenient during busy traffic. The box is more suitable for calm drivers.
The Corolla's suspension is based on MacPherson struts and a torsion beam. Its rugged design easily covers more than 100,000 km. If necessary, suspension repairs are simple and cheap. The same cannot be said about competitors with multi-link rear suspension.
Compact sedans are most popular in developing countries. In many of them, the condition of the roads is far from perfect. The Corolla's soft suspension is adapted to such driving conditions and, in combination with large 205/55 R16 wheels, absorbs bumps very effectively.
But you have to pay for comfort with large rolls in corners and limited steering precision. However, the Corolla behaves confidently, stable and predictably in any driving situation.
However, it is not as exciting as its competitors - for example, the Ford Focus sedan.
The first generation Corolla appeared in 1966. A distinctive feature of the car was reliability. What about this in the tenth generation? Corolla is missing from failure reports. The technical “twin” Auris occupies a leading position in reliability ratings.
The best proof of this is second place in the ranking of the German technical control organization TUV. The model is also at the forefront of the ADAC statistics and stays clear of the Golf, Mazda 3, Ford Focus and Honda Civic.
The list of the most problematic components included the quickly discharging battery, immobilizer, steering system, particulate filter, turbocharger and rear brakes. Most faults are found on cars in the first years of production.
It is worth emphasizing the fact that German experts note a noticeable decrease in the failure rate compared to the ninth generation Corolla.
The German vehicle condition monitoring association DEKRA draws attention to the presence of signs of engine oil leakage, leakage of shock absorbers and excessive brake wear. The presence of a large assortment of high-quality analogues of many spare parts allows you to reduce the cost of maintenance and repairs. However, quite a few spare parts for German cars are more accessible and cheaper.
Toyota Corolla owners often complain about low clutch reliability. Sometimes engine sensors and generator fail. The driver's seat upholstery soon shows signs of wear.
The paintwork on the body and the plastic in the interior are susceptible to scratches.
Sometimes the first pockets of corrosion are detected, knocking noises in the steering, traces of a coolant leak are detected, and problems arise with the bearings in the gearbox.
But still, the Toyota Corolla X is a reliable and noteworthy car. The Japanese brand already has a new generation sedan in its showrooms. This is good news for those interested in buying a tenth Corolla. The emergence of new products always leads to price correction in the secondary market.
The selection of used copies is not that great. Car enthusiasts buy a car for many years and are reluctant to part with it. Quite a few Corollas were part of the corporate fleet. In addition to cars officially sold in Russia, vehicles from the USA and Eastern Europe also come onto the market.
The Corolla was not sold in Western Europe.
Recommended engines
Petrol 1.6 l
A good compromise between performance and economy. The absence of direct injection and turbocharging means reasonable maintenance costs even at high mileage.
If funds allow, it is better to pay attention to cars that appeared after the end of 2009 with a 1.6 Valvematic with a continuously variable valve control system, consuming an average of 7.0 l/100 km. Earlier 1.
6 Dual VVT-i with variable valve timing is a little more voracious - 7.5 l/100 km.
Turbodiesel 1.4 D-4D
The small turbodiesel will appeal to thrifty drivers. Thanks to the average fuel consumption of 5.4 l/100 km, you rarely need to visit gas stations.
The absence of a double flywheel and the presence of a timing chain drive significantly reduces maintenance costs. Larger diesel engines have problems with the head and block. The only drawback is 1.
4 D-4D – the need for constant monitoring of the oil level due to its consumption due to waste.
Advantages of Toyota Corolla
+ high reliability
+ slight loss in resale price
+ well-tuned suspension
Flaws
– high cost of used copies
– bland interior
– high prices for spare parts

Toyota Corolla E150 (2010+). DESIGN FEATURES OF THE PASSIVE SAFETY SYSTEM
NOTE
The airbags actually installed in the vehicle may look different from those shown in the figure ().
The passive safety system (SRS) of the Toyota Corolla/Auris combines front 1 and 2 () and side airbags 3 for the driver and front passenger, inflatable side curtains 4 (depending on configuration), height-adjustable seat belts for driver and front passenger with pretensioners, inertial seat belts for rear passengers, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, front seat with WIL rear impact protection system to prevent spinal injuries.
1
Airbag layout:
1 – driver airbag;
2 – passenger airbag;
3 – side airbags;
4 curtains
WARNINGS
Airbags are not a replacement for seat belts.
Moreover, when the car is moving, the driver and front passenger must be wearing seat belts, since in the event of a traffic accident, a deployed airbag itself can cause serious injury to a person who is not wearing a seat belt.
In addition, rear seat passengers must wear seat belts. In an accident, an unbelted passenger in the back seat can cause injury or serious injury to all passengers in the vehicle.
Do not install or place any accessories on the passenger front panel above the glove box in your vehicle. Such objects may move suddenly and cause injury when the passenger airbag inflates.
When installing an air freshener inside the cabin, avoid placing it near instruments or on the surface of the dashboard. Such objects may move suddenly and cause injury when the passenger airbag inflates.
The deployment of airbags may be accompanied by a loud noise and the spread of fine dust throughout the cabin. This is normal since the airbags, when inoperative, are packed in this powder.
Dust released during the expansion of pillows can cause irritation to the skin or eyes, and increase the asthmatic reaction of some people.
After an accident in which the airbags deploy, thoroughly wash all exposed skin with warm water and soap.
The SRS airbag system is designed to deploy only when the force of the frontal impact is sufficiently large and its direction makes an angle of no more than 30° with the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. In addition, it is a single use system. Front airbags are not designed to inflate in the event of a side collision, rear impact, or rollover.
Children under the age of 12 must be transported using a special child restraint device. The use of a child restraint system is determined by the Road Traffic Regulations, and its fastening in the vehicle interior is determined by the manufacturer’s recommendations.
It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that the passenger's front airbag switch is positioned correctly. The passenger's front airbag should only be turned off when the ignition is off, otherwise the airbag system control unit may fail.
The SRS system includes the following elements:
2
– the driver’s airbag module, located in the steering wheel hub and consisting of a folded airbag shell and a gas generator;
– the driver’s foot airbag module (in a variant), located in the lower part of the instrument panel;
3
– the front passenger airbag module, located under the instrument panel on the passenger side and consisting of a folded airbag shell and a gas generator. Differs from the driver's airbag in shape and larger volume;
– driver and front passenger side airbag modules, located in the outer side parts of the front seat backrests and consisting of a folded airbag shell and a gas generator;
– curtain airbag modules for the driver and passengers (in a variant), located under the facings of the front and rear pillars of the body and consisting of a folded airbag shell and a gas generator.
The airbag locations are indicated by the “SRS AIRBAG” symbol;
4
– modules of front seat belt pretensioners, combined with inertial reels, located in the central pillars of the body, behind the lower trim of the pillar;
5
– an electronic control unit installed in the instrument panel, under the control unit for the heating, air conditioning and interior ventilation system.
The ECU contains micromechanical sensors that measure the longitudinal and lateral acceleration of the vehicle during a collision.
The ECU estimates the severity of the impact by comparing the values it receives from the front impact sensors, side impact sensors and internal electronic sensors with a set value.
If the deceleration signal due to a frontal or side impact exceeds a predetermined value, the computer triggers the activation of the seat belt pretensioners and deployment of the associated airbags.
If a vehicle's battery is destroyed during an accident, the voltage hold circuit in the ECU will still be able to activate the airbags for some time after the impact;
– frontal and side impact sensors that transmit acceleration information to the system control unit.
6
Frontal impact sensors are located on the side members of the car body in the front part of the engine compartment.
7
The side impact sensors are located on the B-pillar, behind the lower pillar trim.
The strength and direction of impact during a traffic accident is determined by the electronic control unit (ECU) of the passive safety system using impact sensors. Based on sensor signals, the control unit activates airbags and front seat belt pretensioners;
8
- seat belts. When an impact of a certain force occurs, the ECU, having received signals from the impact sensors, increases the tension of the belts before activating the airbags, issuing a command to the pyrotechnic elements of the pretensioners.
The latter provide a timely response to emergency deceleration of the car, pulling the driver and front passenger to the backs of the seats, preventing them from further moving forward by inertia and getting injured from a deployed airbag;
NOTE
The seat belt pretensioner mechanism is always activated before the airbag.
9
– head restraints installed in the backs of all seats prevent damage to the cervical vertebrae of people sitting in the car in the event of a strong rear impact and when the airbags are deployed. The front seat head restraints feature WIL technology, which further reduces the risk of neck and spine injuries in rear impacts.
The head restraints of the front and rear seats can be adjusted in height by pressing the lock and moving them up or down to the required height (see “Seats”);
NOTE
The optimal position of the headrest is one in which its upper edge is located at the same level as the top of the head.
For very tall people, raise the head restraint to its highest position; for very short people, lower the head restraint to its lowest position.
– passive safety system indicators.
The passive safety system malfunction indicator (with a red light filter) is located on the right side of the instrument cluster (see “Instrument cluster”). Lights up when the ignition is turned on, stays on for about 6 seconds and goes out if the system is working properly. If the warning light does not go off (or comes on while driving), it means that there is a malfunction in the passive safety system.
WARNING
If the warning light comes on, immediately contact a car service center. In addition to the possible failure of the airbag in an emergency, it may unexpectedly deploy while driving, which will lead to serious consequences.
10
The passive safety warning light unit is located on the center console.
The airbag deactivation warning lamp A comes on and stays on if the passenger's front airbag is deactivated.
The airbag activation warning lamp B comes on and stays on if the passenger's front airbag is activated.
The front passenger seat belt warning light B lights up and flashes when the ignition is switched on if the front passenger seat belt is not fastened. The presence of a front passenger is detected by a special sensor in the front seat.
11
The driver's seat belt warning light is located on the right side of the instrument cluster (see "Instrument Cluster"), lights up and flashes when the ignition is on if the driver's seat belt is not fastened;
12
– the front passenger airbag switch is located on the side surface of the instrument panel, on the right side. The switch turns off the front passenger airbag when transporting a child in the front passenger seat (see “Using child seats”).
WARNING
Do not unnecessarily deactivate the front passenger airbag unless a child restraint is installed in the front seat.
This subsection describes the removal and installation of driver and front passenger airbags, and the removal and installation of seat belts. Side and curtain airbags should only be removed by a workshop by specially trained personnel.

My 2006 Toyota Corolla – Operating experience – Your Toyota
The autumn of 2006 was marked by a series of pleasant troubles associated with choosing the next passenger car for everyday use.
Taking into account the degree of accessibility and affordability of a car loan, the choice was made among cars in the price category from 500 to 700 thousand rubles. The mass of cars in all car dealerships in the city has been revised. There was no independent solution.
I had to ask a friend for help. The most authoritative opinion for me at that time was the opinion of a friend who already had extensive experience in operating foreign cars. The choice between Ford and Toyota was made in favor of the Toyota Corolla hatchback.
The only doubt for me was the problem of choosing the type of transmission - automatic or manual gearbox. Conservatism and long experience in operating domestic passenger cars did their job - the choice fell on mechanics.
After receiving a loan and prepaying part of the amount, an agreement was concluded with the dealer for the supply of cars. We didn't have to wait long. A week later, a car of the agreed configuration and assembled in the UK, but with an automatic transmission, was delivered to the dealership.
I was offered this option. The dealer’s arguments and positive reviews on Internet sites dispelled for me the standard stereotypes generally accepted in society regarding automatic transmissions. It was decided to take the proposed car with a four-speed hydraulic automatic transmission. The difference in the cost of equipment at that time was quite significant and amounted to more than 30 thousand rubles.
Today, looking ahead a little, after 11 years of operation, I can say that I have never regretted the choice I made, both in relation to the automatic transmission and the entire car as a whole.
The car is equipped with: 1.6 l engine. (110 hp
), hatchback version, air conditioning, heated front seats, front windows, heated exterior mirrors with electric adjustment, automatic transmission, front and rear disc brakes, fabric upholstery, 15-inch steel wheels, Michelin tires 195x60 R15, electric power steering steering, airbag for driver and front passenger, curtain airbags for rear passengers.
The first impressions after driving domestic cars were simply enthusiastic. The smoothness and quietness of the ride deserved particular praise. The suspension handles all the unevenness of our roads smoothly and confidently without any breakdowns. Both the driver and passengers are simply delighted.
The only drawback, which immediately makes itself felt to an experienced driver, was the presence of a slightly increased level of lateral body motion. Apparently, this is the price to pay for increased longitudinal stability.
With a certain amount of experience, this disadvantage is completely compensated by a slight decrease in the aggressiveness of the driving style and becomes completely imperceptible for the driver and passengers.
However, today, after 11 years of close friendship with the Corolla, I want to talk not about its original advantages, but about the extent to which they were preserved after 180 thousand km. merciless exploitation.
The car has never seen a service station, it was serviced exclusively on its own from time to time, without taking into account the requirements of the regulations established by the manufacturer in the worst sense of these words.
This article is not about how to care for a car, it is rather about how not to do it. All my subsequent narrative can in no way be regarded as a guide to action.
It should be perceived as an impartial statement of the events and consequences associated with the disgraceful exploitation of wonderful technology. So, everything in order, by components and assemblies.
Engine
There is simply nothing to talk about engine problems, since they have not yet been identified.
In combination with an automatic transmission, a 1.6-liter engine with a capacity of 110 horsepower is quite enough for me personally, no matter what anyone says. Fuel consumption in a purely urban cycle is about 9.0 liters. /100 km. On country roads, if you don’t jerk the car and don’t drive more than 120 km/h – 7.5 l/100 km.
On average, city-highway – 8.0-8.3 l/100 km. They say that with mechanics, all indicators are one liter less. I don't believe! Of course, theoretically there should be some small savings, but again it all depends on the driving style.
And this saving will ultimately turn out to be an illusion, especially after the engine requests repairs.
Engines with hydraulic automatic transmissions are not subject to sudden shock loads and jerks and operate under much more gentle conditions.
For these reasons, the operating time before overhaul of engines with automatic transmissions is almost 1.5 times greater than the output of similar engines operated with manual transmissions.
The service life of an automatic transmission is comparable to the service life of a manual transmission; the service life of the unit is designed for the entire period of operation of the vehicle.
The VVT-i system provided the engine with decent torque. Torque is distributed very evenly across the entire rev range. The dynamics of cars with an automatic transmission are almost identical to the dynamics of their relatives with a manual transmission.
During the entire period of operation, absolutely nothing was done to the engine. The check engine light never came on. Only change the oil, oil and air filter. I haven't changed the spark plugs, they are factory ones and still work properly.
I changed the oil from time to time, despite the presence of huge mileages. With the replacement standard after 10 thousand km, the change was often made after 20 and even 30 thousand km of the car's mileage.
It was never necessary to add oil to the engine during operation. The level is consistently normal, and I don’t look under the hood from replacement to oil change.
Only branded oil was used, Toyota SAE 5W40.
The appearance of the generator and air conditioner belt is very sad, however, it has been working in this condition for the last 3-5 years. I’ve never done a pull-up, I understand that I need to change it, but I still can’t get around to it, either there’s no money, or there’s no time.
I also don’t know where the timing chain is and how it needs to be tightened. I read that there is an automatic oil hydraulic tensioner, and that’s where I calmed down.
All injector sensors and injectors are original, including lambda probes. Fuel is exclusively AI-92 gasoline, although the instructions require at least AI-95 (used only during the break-in period).
The catalyst works properly, the exhaust system parts are sealed and have never been welded.
I added coolant twice, 500-1000 ml each, due to the natural evaporation of the water base.
Automatic transmission
Four-speed hydraulic automatic. I have never topped up or changed the fluid. The flight is normal, the liquid on the dipstick is transparent, pink in color. The instructions do not explicitly indicate the fluid replacement threshold. Apparently, it is filled in for the entire service life of the unit.
The box works correctly, without jerks or excessive thoughtfulness. The switching moments are practically imperceptible and are only noticeable to an experienced driver in extreme modes. Under normal conditions, the operation of the machine is visible only by jumps in the tachometer needle. The impressions from the operation of the machine are excellent.
Suspension
There are almost no suspension parts available in stores. They are practically not purchased due to their uselessness.
The front suspension was rebuilt on its own at around 125 thousand km. The right front pillar rattled, unable to cope with the reverse operation. Moreover, we killed the rack ourselves, it’s not the car’s fault. There were no comments on the left pillar.
At the same time, I replaced: the left strut, anti-roll bar bushings, bones, ball joints, steering ends. All this was in perfect condition - I left it for spare parts.
I couldn’t change what really needed replacing (not counting the right pillar) because I didn’t wait for delivery; I needed the car very urgently. The support bearings of the struts were practically broken. But we had to leave them and cover an additional 55 thousand km. They are still standing, but they are already making a noticeable noise; they urgently need to be replaced.
The only wheel alignment adjustment of all time began and ended immediately after the test at the stand. After my suspension overhaul, no adjustments were required.
Nothing has ever been done to the rear suspension. There are no complaints.
In my opinion, both the front and rear suspensions are very simple and reliable in design. In order to break something there, you need to try very hard!
Brakes
4 sets of brake pads were replaced and all brake discs were covered at 170 thousand km. The brake calipers and their parts have not been changed. I have never used original brake pads because they are incredibly expensive.
Tires and wheels
I replaced the left front wheel bearing, it started humming at 160 thousand km, and ran another 15 thousand km before the replacement. I installed the original one.
I replaced summer tires after ten and a half years of use and sold well on the secondary market. The mileage was approximately 100 thousand km. Michelin Energy tires are wonderful soft and silent rubber. To replace it, I bought the same ones, only in a more modern design.
Bridgestone winter studded tires with a mileage of 78 thousand km were left for one last season. Then the fate of the summer awaits them.
All tires wear very evenly. This indicates the correct settings of the suspension and ABS brakes.
Factory-fitted steel wheels are used on both winter and summer wheels. We saw everything. I have never made any adjustments on the machine; when replacing the rubber, the balancing went without any problems.
Electrical equipment
The battery replacement was required only after 10 years of operation. To this day, the high beam lamps are factory installed. I began to change the front light bulbs only after the famous amendments to the traffic rules were introduced, requiring the front running lights to be turned on during the day. They burn out quite often.
I installed all sorts of them - both expensive and cheap. At the same time, I observed a pattern - the more expensive the lamp, the longer it burns. But still, on average, replacing burnt-out low-beam lamps is required approximately once every five to six months.
You need to install LED running lights and forget about this problem.
At 150 thousand km the starter reverse clutch (Bendix) began to slip. The replacement, including labor, cost 2,600 rubles.
All external lighting devices work normally and do not suffer from loss of contacts.
Body
There are no signs of corrosion anywhere. The machine is used daily all year round. I have no comments on the body, except for minor damage to the paintwork and cracks in the windshield that arose for reasons beyond the control of the car.
There has never been any paint maintenance. Over the entire period I used wax polish three or four times and liquid wax the same number of times when washing. This is all for real!
Salon
Almost all the micro bulbs illuminating the buttons and levers of the interior, including those on the automatic transmission lever, overheated. I don't pay attention and I'm not going to pick at the plastic. Everything is fine on the instrument panel.
The air conditioner is used constantly during the hot season. In 11 years it has never required any maintenance. Periodically, as necessary, I replace the cabin filter. It gets clogged with dust and small debris quite quickly.
conclusions
Apparently it’s not for nothing that experts call the Toyota Corolla the ideal passenger car for Russia. The reliability of these machines is legendary.
I completely agree with these statements. Many years of operating experience give me enough reason for this. It is a pity that it is not possible now to purchase the same one, but only a new car. Today I would gladly agree exclusively to such a replacement. I just don’t see any other options for myself right now.
Nowadays, good, famous cars are expensive for me, and all the others do not inspire any confidence at all, although they look quite solemn and pompous. And my old jacket is already well-worn, but it still sits quite nicely on my shoulders, because it is well cut and sewn tightly!

Disadvantages and advantages of Toyota Corolla
Toyota Corolla cars are becoming increasingly popular today. These machines are incredibly multifunctional, high-tech and, most importantly, comfortable! It is preferred by hundreds of thousands of people from all over the country.
Well, of course, such a car has its advantages and disadvantages, as well as problems that every owner of a “Japanese” may encounter. In addition, you can find numerous reviews about this machine on the Internet. Many people wanted to share their opinions. There are no exact negative or positive instructions for it.
First, it’s worth highlighting the advantages of this machine. Firstly, it is its reliability. The car will never let you down, even in the most difficult situations. Secondly, Toyota Corolla has increased strength. Thirdly, it consumes quite little fuel and this determines its efficiency.
Fourthly, many people like the interior design of the cabin. Some people praise the comfortable leather seats, which you can sit on for quite a long time without getting tired. The car is also equipped with a comfortable medium-sized steering wheel.
In addition, the car is quite roomy.
But over time, the advantages of the vehicle begin to develop into disadvantages. This is due to the fact that Toyota is experiencing the so-called “growing pains”. There is an international organization involved in rating the reliability of cars.
Toyota Corolla ranks in the top ten in this system, and its age ranges from 8 to 11 years.
But why are “young” cars worse? Equipment of this brand, aged from 2 to 7 years, ranks only in the second or even third ten.
Of course, many shortcomings and flaws were found in the car. These include the fact that components for this brand are produced all over the world. That is why the quality characteristics suffered greatly. We can also safely say that the Toyota Corolla is produced and designed not only in Japan. As a result, the quality of technology sharply declined.
In addition, the car still has significant flaws. For example, this is the presence of creaks in the ceiling lamp. They can not always be heard, but still some flaws are provided. The car's paintwork can also be easily washed off. Because of this, after some time it will be necessary to apply a special coating to the car. And this requires certain costs.
Some owners of this equipment have noticed that the windows often fog up. Toyota Corolla sometimes provides sufficient contamination of some types of seat upholstery. But this oversight can be easily eliminated with the help of improvised means.
Also, the car trunk does not close as easily as we would like. To do this you need to put in some effort. Another problem with this technique is the inability to adjust the clutch. The car can only be started with the clutch depressed.
Currently, the automotive industry has found and recognized multiple, most common car problems. These include the “nervous” and not very pleasant rattling of the rear license plate frame.
Some other technical problems are that it is extremely difficult to start the power unit, crickets “squeak” in the cabin for quite a long time, and there is a relatively large gap between the radio and the dashboard.
What needs to be done to eliminate these problems? There may be two options for eliminating these flaws. Firstly, you can repair the car yourself using improvised means and special tools. Secondly, you can ask for help from Toyota service or contact a special repair service.
In addition, there are still some problems and “little things” that can be eliminated. You may be distracted by multiple sources of noise. These include the dashboard and visor of the instrument panel. Also, when lowering the glass, a slight vibration may occur, which is also not very pleasant. Problems with the license plate mount and frame can be removed using double-sided tape.
Malfunctions of the steering rack may also occur. She can't stand too much stress when driving on Russian "good roads". This issue can be resolved with the help of a repair service or Toyota service center.
Due to poor operation of the power unit and its environmentally friendly settings, vibration at idle very often occurs. This oversight can be eliminated by turning on the headlights or headlights. Another hindrance of the manufacturer in the design of the car is the ability to start the equipment only the second time.

Review from the owner of Toyota Corolla 2007
I've been driving since 2005, I drive constantly, every day, and my cars rarely have a day off. And I had four of them. The first one, and the one that taught me how to survive on the road, was an old Nissan Primera P10 with which I went through thick and thin.
Then I switched to a Korean American Hyundai SantaFe Classic with a large V6, I lived with it for almost three years until it was stolen. It's a shame, it was a good car. Then there was a two-year ownership of a Korean-assembled Hyundai Elantra III.
And finally, in May 2012, I acquired the hero of my today's review. Here I’ll make a reservation that I’ve been fascinated by cars from a conscious age to this day. Various kinds of automobile publications, books, magazines and other relevant literature accompanies me always and everywhere.
I read a lot and consider it my hobby. We often share our impressions of owning our cars with friends.
I got distracted, perhaps it’s time to move on to the car. I purchased my Corolla, born in 2007, in May 2012 with a mileage of 78,000 km.
The car was in perfect external and technical condition, both at first glance and after undergoing diagnostics. In a conversation with the owner, he said that he did not skimp on maintenance.
In addition, this was the third car in his family, including the official one.
When buying a car, I always pay attention to the person who is selling it and I advise everyone to do so. After all, you can understand a lot from it about the condition of the car as a whole. Even excuse me, resellers are different. Moving on to the car, I’ll probably start with its engine. The unit is really not new and is found on earlier models of the company.
But it remains relevant even now. I consider the timing chain drive to be an advantage. The variable valve timing system is also a useful solution. If you want to save fuel, he will help you with this. Therefore, as they wrote in one of the reviews, it was sluggish when overtaking.
You need to “wake him up” a little after moving evenly, by briefly pressing (two, three times) the gas pedal to the floor. This will signal the end of the “economy” mode when the valves do not open completely. And some change in the acceleration dynamics will be noticeable. I won’t say that it will be an airplane acceleration, but the difference will be noticeable.
As for the dynamics, in my opinion, in the overwhelming majority of them it is quite enough. I have not encountered situations where it was sorely lacking. If you twist, then from 3500 to 5000 there is very decent thrust for 1.6 and 124 hp. With. This is a revving naturally aspirated engine and you can’t expect a solid pickup from it from below.
As for consumption, my average onboard almost always spins in the range from 7.0 to 7.5 liters (this is in the combined cycle), the highway comes out to 6.5 liters, in pure city I have never shown more than 8.5.
It should also be noted that the engine is exceptionally reliable; they are called millionaires. But all this is true only with timely maintenance, namely changing oil, filters, and spark plugs.
The mileage from replacement to replacement should not exceed 15,000 km (although the manufacturer advises doing maintenance once every 10,000 km, I allowed myself to deviate from this rule and carry out general maintenance once every 15,000 km). Fill only with high-quality synthetics from trusted manufacturers.
I first used the original Toyota, then switched to a more affordable, but, it seems to me, no less high-quality Castrol 5W40. From replacement to replacement, it eats an additional 1 liter (i.e. 1 liter per 15,000 km). Iridium spark plugs actually last a long time, 80,000 km, or even more, provided they are refueled at proven gas stations.
I changed it to 80,000 almost immediately after purchase. To summarize about the engine, I will say that it is an extremely reliable unit, which is why it has stood the test of time and at the same time has undergone minimal changes. One can argue here, one may not argue, but this is a fact.
Now many will say that I am a fan of Toyota and the like, but this is not true. I have preferences in the German, French and even American automobile industry. Every car has strengths and weaknesses.
And I definitely discovered the reliability of this Japanese brand.
This is truly the car that will take you from point A to point B always and under any circumstances (this statement is based not only on personal experience of ownership, but also friends unanimously agree with this).
I'll go back to the car. I know from documents from the previous owner that the pump was replaced under warranty. I heard that this is a common problem with this model. I personally changed all the fluids at 100,000. I like the electric power steering, because on the Elantra I suffered from leaks in the hydraulic steering.
And there are no extra hoses. I also have a knock in the steering wheel, which many have written about. For the last six months, I’ve completely stopped hearing it, maybe it’s just showing up just a little bit, maybe I’ve gotten used to it, or maybe it’s somehow faded away. In any case, I did not find a clear explanation for this phenomenon.
As for the body, everything is in order. My car, as I already said, is 2007 and there is not a single bug on the body. I honestly admit that I am jealous of the appearance of my cars and therefore I am aware of what has been said.
On all my previous cars, no matter how I kept an eye on them, small pockets of corrosion appeared every now and then, here and there. But here, there are chips, but there is no rust even without treatment. Arches, sills, hood edge, trunk, all without the slightest sign.
Honestly, this seems strange to me. Six years is not a short time.
The chassis holds up well to match everything else. Three times during the period of ownership I went for diagnostics and found nothing. So they said: “nothing needs to be changed,” they didn’t even try to separate it, which is strange. The steering is adequate, feedback, steering effort are all present in the amount required for this type of car.
Personally, I feel any non-standard behavior of this car, for example, such as the front or rear axle literally being pulled down by the fifth point. Again, if you compare with cars created for driving pleasure, most Germans, for example, then of course not everything is so delicate. But those who say that there is no controllability are definitely wrong.
This is more relevant for the Chinese automobile industry, where feedback and zero are absent as a concept in principle. On my part, I should mention the breakdown of the rear left ABS sensor on my car. What’s noteworthy is that ABS sensors have failed on all my cars. Just some kind of evil rock. And if on other cars it could be purchased separately, here it is only assembled with a hub.
The original price on Exist was 6,300 rubles. You could pick up a non-original one by paying 4,200 rubles. I chose, as it seemed to me then, the path of economy and ordered a non-original Febest. But it lasted for three months and the ABS error came on again. Having arrived then for diagnostics, I was sure that the opposite (right side) had given up on me.
But it turned out to be the same left sensor with a non-original hub. So I checked the saying, the miser pays twice. I installed the original and forgot about the problem.
As for the cost of spare parts, in the original version the prices are higher than the average of competitors. Among the Japanese, only Subaru and Honda are more expensive. I noted for myself that the original Toyota spare part is a very durable product and lasts quite a long time, and in most cases it justifies its price and works out.
A few words about the car's interior. I beg to differ with those who talk about the weak sound insulation of the engine compartment; it is not that weak, I would say, acceptable. The engine is not annoying in most operating ranges. But as for the wheel arches, here the situation is worse.
The hum is already present at 50 km/h, but this is on studs; in the summer, things are a little better. Arches undoubtedly require additional insulation. Someone read a comparison of the Corolla's interior with the Logan's interior, this, to put it mildly, is puzzling. Yes, the Toyota interior makes squeaks from time to time, but the materials are of high quality and fit quite well.
And if Logan is also relatively okay with the fit, then there are problems with the quality of the plastic, it looks and feels like a budget. And in general, these are cars of different price categories and consumer qualities and do not directly compete with each other.
And if we talk about the class in which the Corolla competes, then in its poverty it is a favorite, not clear of course, but worthy of respect. A model to definitely be reckoned with. This has long been a fait accompli.
Comparing my Corolla with its peers from other brands, namely Hyundai, I can say that, despite its age, not a single inscription on the switches in the interior has been erased and nothing has become loose – this is also an indicator. But there are also a few comments. Weak mirror heating, on the Elantra it was many times stronger.
In my opinion, the size of the air duct blowing through the windshield could not be increased in length, since the area at the driver’s eye level is slowly freed from fogging, and in winter from frost. The cleaning area of the right passenger wiper is small; for a tall person in the front seat, this eats up half of the view into the windshield.
I got used to the wide A-pillars; when turning left, it slightly interferes with my visibility. Although, on the other hand, a powerful stance is a guarantee of safety in the event of, God forbid, a collision. The seats are comfortable, although it would be nice to make the cushion a little longer, but this is, so to speak, to taste. I didn't have any back problems on long trips.
The seating position is high (at the wheel), something similar in the Focus 2. The eyeglass case is very small and it is of little use, a meaningless decision. The absence of a central tunnel is a plus.
I would like to note that the stove works well, the interior warms up quickly, even in cold weather of about -10, -15 degrees I don’t use a fan higher than the second stage. Of course, if you have a working (unclogged) cabin filter.
I have never had any problems starting in cold weather with this car. I live in St. Petersburg and the minimum temperature at which I had to start was about -25, no sneezes, gasps, sighs or anything else.
It started on the 5th, 6th rotation of the engine.
The trunk is large, but lacks additional niches for small items, so you have to carry a container with you to store a first aid kit, fire extinguisher and other things necessary on the road. The spare wheel is full size. The standard jack is quite passable, I had a chance to try it out once. The seats, like those of most competitors, fold in a 60-40 ratio, allowing you to load a snowboard and skis.
Speaking about the checkpoint, I cannot help but note its clarity and composure. Over 125,000 km (this is the mileage of my Corolla at the time of writing this review), there is no trace of any hums or vibrations. At 100,000 km I just refreshed the oil and filled it with Castrol 75W90 transmission.
Someone will probably say that this is not a mileage for mechanics. I agree. The safety of the gearbox, as well as the engine, directly depends on the skill and driving style. You can excuse me and finish it off in 30,000 km. With skillful handling, even the Chinese sell the boxes well.
The low beam leaves much to be desired; even in the highest position of the corrector it does not shine very far. Maybe, of course, xenon would improve the situation, but I probably can’t say for sure. There are no questions about the distant one. It hits far.
Maintenance prices are reasonable and within the range of servicing any similar mid-range foreign car. A somewhat vague explanation, but personally the price tag never made me blush. Maybe because I didn’t have a chance to repair anything serious. When purchasing spare parts, there is always a choice from a large number of substitutes, if suddenly the price of the original seems unjustified.
To summarize, I would like to say a well-worn phrase: “There are no ideal cars.” Each of us has our own priorities and preferences. It is for this reason that debates in automobile forums do not subside. There is a certain pattern that a person writes a review about his car either because of admiration and satisfaction with it, or he has problems with it and begins to throw mud at it.
There are of course exceptions. Of course, the Toyota Corolla is not an ideal car. But it’s hard to talk about it without mentioning the words quality and reliability. A reliable and unpretentious car for long-term use. This is why Toyota cars are valued on the secondary market. The high demand for them not only in Russia, but also in the world only confirms my statement.
Thank you all for your patience and attention. I tried to be objective. The choice is yours.
